    I think I'm mostly recovered from the rib injury, so I was able to complete the speed workout at group tonight, although at somewhat less than full effort/speed that I was up to before. The workout was 5 min hard, 2 min recovery, with 5 repeats of this. I walked the recoveries to let my breath catch up, which I think helped my ribs not to start really hurting. The intervals plus warm-up, sprints, and cool-down got me to 5.3 miles, which is an improvement for sure!

    I never set an official goal for October, which is just as well. My goal I guess is to just get back into the swing of running again.

    Sorry for not catching up with everyone but I read through and awesomed a lot of great stuff.

    Ran an easy four miles as part of the recovery plan, with the next run being five miles on Thursday. It was gloriously cool this morning, at a nice 54F...soooo nice! Other than that, nothing much to report.

    11 - 2.06
    14 - 6.89
    17 - 4.07

    Total: 53.43 / 100 miles

    I think I've changed my mind on running today. My first logic was that if I'm gonna miss a few days I might as well run and then I'll have a few days to recoup. But dang, this throat stuff. I am clearing my throat every 60 seconds. I want this gone ASAP and I don't think it's worth it to drag it out even one more day!

    I feel you! I stayed home from work today & skipped my run due to this cold/allergy/sinus crap I have going on. I woke up coughing every few hours last night.

    Do folks here do a fair share of virtual races, or is the AIM one kind of a one-time special deal?

    I used to do a virtual turkey trot. It was my first in-person 5k and it went to a good cause (rec sports at my college) but they haven't offered it the last couple of years.

    The only other virtual race I could see myself doing would be Pat Tilman run because he was a great person and it goes to a good cause. I did the actual race once and it happened to be the weekend after the Boston Marathon bombing. I was holding back tears at the start and finish.

    @Orphia - Looks like an amazing race! I love the photos and I love your recap. Way to embrace the suck and power through! On a side note, I am a big F1 fan too! We contemplated going to Austin this weekend, but with the Bourbon Chase last weekend, we decided against it. We have been to Austin twice and to Indianapolis (when they used to run there) several times. We are hoping to go to Montreal or maybe Monza in the near future.

    Awesome!!

    I would love to go to another race! I've been to races at Albert Park 3 times, which is why I enjoyed my HM so much.

    Monaco would be my pick, though I'd settle for any. :smile:

    @garygse My husband is a Brit, and used to barrack for Hamilton. Hamilton was a boy wonder. We're slightly disillusioned with him now. I forget why. :smiley: Probably because he's not Ricciardo. :smiley:

    AND I DID IT!! :D 5km no walking! Secondary goal complete. Now to be able to do it again....and consistently.
    Oct.17 - 5.6km
    MTD 56.9km/100km

    @weat0043 Woo Yay Hooplah Hooray!!! Such a milestone!! Bravo you. :heart:

    And kudos on the awesome goal-setting!!! Most impressed.

    Been realising how important that is this week, having had to go from wanting to set a PB for my HM on Sunday to just running all the way after I hurt my back.

    Good job all round to you.

    @PastorVincent Interesting dew point chart. I knew the dew point was high yesterday, but I just checked what the actual was and it was 65-67 the whole race. No wonder everybody was miserable.

    If you want the longer explanation: https://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/training-in-the-heat

    Stumbled on that years ago, and so far, in my experience, it has proven correct.

    @PastorVincent

    "It's generally recognized that for every 10-degree increase in air temperature above 55 degrees, there's a 1.5 percent to 3 percent increase in average finishing time for a marathon. (Translation: An extra 3 to 6 minutes for a 3:30 marathon with every 10-degree increase.) "

    Oh, really? What's that in 99% of the world's measurements? :smile:

    Dammit, you people make interesting posts!

    I'll bore you with my current running status.

    Haven't run since my HM on Sunday. Only really done one purposeful 4 km walk (on Monday) other than walks to/from work.

    My right hip and hamstring have been sore, even though they were fine during the race.

    Dying for a run! Still a little bit niggly this afternoon. It's supposed to be raining in the morning, but I'm not going to let that stop me going for a proper walk to see how I go.

    Found a quote that perfectly sums up my thoughts on my run on Saturday
    Run for 20 minutes and you will feel better, run another 20 and you might tire, add on 3 hours and you will hurt, but keep going and you'll see and smell and hear and taste world with a vividness that will make your former life pale- Scott jurek

    Why do short runs feel so HARD?

    @fitoverfortymom

    Perceptive question of the day! :smile:

    As you train your body to run longer and longer, your body takes longer and longer to warm up. This is why the first 1-3 miles of a marathon often feel harder than ones in the middle. It just takes a while to get the engine of your body ticking over efficiently.

    At least that is my opinion.

    There are countries that use metric... and then there are world leaders who put a man on the moon, have visited every major planet in the solar system, and land rockets on moving platforms at sea, not to mention populating mars with robots... :tongue: :tongue: :tongue:

    @Orphia Thank you! I have never been much of a runner. This group has been the motivation and accountability that I needed to start running.

    @7lenny7 - omg - hilarious

    Had a minor surgery yesterday to investigate why so many UTIs (sorry TMI). Didn't find anything wrong other than #7 UTI for this year. So was home all day after that and was told "no exercise after anesthesia!"
    Husband told urologist that I exercise way too much and so he asked what I do and when I listed it all he just replied with "wish I did all that".

    Really nice run this morning. My miles are just going to be lower while I keep up this long warm up I'm doing. I seriously can't get up earlier than the 4 am wake up.

    @JessicaMcB you're plenty fast, ad only taking 3 days off after running EXTREMELY well at your 80k, makes you a total beast.... I'll be happy if I'm running again a week after my up coming race.
