Snowdog, congrats on the weight lose. Don't worry about keeping up. Just check in when you can.
Becca, ((HUGS)) Love the saying too.
Oh Heather forgot about the weight of the cast! Thanks.4 -
Happy National Electric Guitar Day!
A day close to my heart. It's also, not-so-coincidentally, Jimi Hendrix's birthday.
Carol - Thank you for working so hard to get us an update on Lenora!
Joyce - I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Hope you are more comfortable soon.
Pip - Sweet pawprint ornament! I've been sorry for so many years that I never got a pawprint from our Irish wolfhound. I still miss him so much... would have been lovely to have that.
All you retirees - I'm vicariously enjoying retirement through your stories! It's doubtful we'll ever be able to retire so I'll take what I can get!
I'm slowly catching up. I tried to post from the app while I was out of town for the holidays, but it looks like my message didn't post. It was kind of a stressful Thanksgiving due to a lot of running around, but we enjoyed a good visit with my family - and we left all the leftovers with my dad!
Since we got back we've given away two chairs from the parents-in-laws' storage unit, promised an antique power tool to my brother, and posted another set of chairs for sale on Craigslist. We're getting more serious about decluttering, especially with a possible long-term plan that would involve moving again.

So hopeful that Lenora is doing ok in the hospital. Ouch,Joyce you really did a number on your elbow @nd foot. Take care of you.
Terry- sure hope you can get a smaller cast or something more comfortable.
Part of my problem with feeding five extra people was one is diabetic and one is a vegetarian who has many food allergies. But we survived and nobody starved.
Time to fix dinner.

Heather: Keeping my fingers crossed that your friend doesn't move so far away that it is hard to get together with her. :flowerforyou:
Betty ROC: The fall leaves are beautiful. What a grand place!
(((Becca)))
Snowdog: We all have trouble keeping up. Respond when you have something to say that may be helpful and don't worry when you don't have anything to say.
Meg and Lenora: Thinking good thoughts for each of you.
We have purchased hand made puppets as gifts to each of our grandchildren this Christmas--made by the same woman who made puppets that we gave to our own children more than 30 years ago. I'm excited to be able to do this and it is putting a  on my face.

All you retirees - I'm vicariously enjoying retirement through your stories! It's doubtful we'll ever be able to retire so I'll take what I can get!
Yeah I'm with you. I've always figured I'd be working till I dropped, so I "retired" the first time for 3 months in 2004 and went cycling around Australia, and then I "retired" again in 2012, and spent 8 months cycling and travelling around the world. Figured I'd get it in while I still could.
And since high school, I've been taking one degree, diploma, certificate, course after another with the goal that I'll end up doing something I enjoy and something I can keep doing for a long, long time ... also with the hope that I'll eventually hit a salary bracket where I can afford to cut my hours back to 4 days a week.
Regarding those daily pill holder things ... I got a couple of them way back when. Probably a good 20 years ago now. I take a lot of vitamins and minerals and figured they'd be a handy way of organising things. However, I quickly discovered ...
a) They are too small. A lot of my vitamins etc. are quite large, and I couldn't fit everything in.
b) It was a pain sorting vitamins out for 2 weeks in advance.
So now I've just got my basket of bottles and I take 1 of each.
OTOH, my mother uses those daily pill holders and seems to like them.

Hello ladies: DH got his cardiology check-up and met with the surgeon this morning for his knee replacement on December 12. According to the records they got from Sioux Falls my DH has a pacemaker, NOT. They apparently merged some records and they were included with my DH's when they were sent. Electronic Medical Records can be really scary. We had a few sunbeams today and I got to the YM to exercise. Still have a few leftovers but nothing dangerous.
Joyce and Terry - Hope the bones continue to mend.
Katla - Glad you had a good day with Arrow. They do miss people they see regularly.
Wendy - Congrats on the 1/2 marathon.
Michele - Cute cake.
Machka - Lovely rose.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA1 -
I’m one of the ones with 2 pill holders. A weekly one for morning pills and a monthly one for evenings pills. Have to say for me it is easier than opening up all those bottles every day.
Off to bed and book
Terry in cold VT3 -
Terry and Joyce: Healing thoughts being beamed your way. Take care. Agree with Barbie --- ask others to assist!
Katla: I think Arrow must think of you as his human. So sweet that he came to you and was a good boy.
Heather: Hope your friend stays nearby.
Lanette: Will you be my accountant? LOL! I actually qualify for full pension this coming January. Part of me wants to bolt to a 'jay-oh-bee' that is more fun and less stress. Then, I remember that I work from home, have 35 paid days off, and have more good days than bad....so I'll stay another week I'll be 65 in 3 years and Medicare and Social Security availability will probably make the ultimate decision easier.
Karen in VA: Yes, I understand being on the continuum of feelings about whether or not to retire. I'm wondering if the last 3-5 years on a job are the most challenging, much like the last 10 pounds left to lose.
Oh, and good news is I was approved for long term care insurance at the preferred rate because of my clean bill of health. So, if I need a home health aide down the road, there will be some coverage. Wish we had this for my DH now!
Lenora---thinking of you and hoping you are getting good care.
Scale has been friendly this holiday season so far. I'd like to lose 5 more pounds by mid January in anticipation of the cruise.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Good evening Ladies!
I've been away for awhile, mentally, not physically. It's been a rough couple of months for me and I went off the rails. It's probably a combination of my job/financial situation and the coming cold, dark winter months. I was on a downward spiral which included more food and less exercise, not good for me at all. The night I spent eating frosting from the can and drinking wine made me realize I had to do something soon. I was wise enough to not isolate myself from my friends who have been very supportive. I'm beginning to find the right combination to bring myself back. A friend suggested meditation which I have been faithfully doing for 3 weeks, every morning before I begin my day. It has helped and I am slowly getting back.
A couple of very good things happened just before Thanksgiving; the person who was running the company I work for was ousted and the next day I was given a long overdue raise. Every day I worked for this man I lost more respect for him, I never worked for anyone who had such little regard for his employees. His leaving thrilled me and the raise was just icing on the cake (and not in my mouth!). I am still actively looking for a new job though.
I've had the past 3 days off and used them to get things done which will make me feel better. Saturday morning I finally had saved enough money to get the brakes done on my car and then was able to get the car inspected. It was a month overdue and weighing heavily on my mind. All this before 10:30 am. Today I went on a long walk with a friend and then came home and cooked a delicious dinner with enough leftovers for 2 more meals, just like I had done in the past but not recently. I also logged everything. I have enough calories for a slice of pumpkin pie if I choose.
I decided not to buy anyone any Christmas gifts this year. No one, nada. Financially there is not an extra dime and my friends and family understand that a roof and keeping warm are a higher priority. I miss shopping but not the added holiday stress.
So that's my story.
Love and hugs to everyone.

Did the 10 MInute Yoga DVD, held my plank for 2 min 53 sec, then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do Denise Austin's Quick Burn Cardio DVD.
Left the house early to buy sweet potatoes (hey, they're on sale for 37 cents!)
drkatiebug - I remembered you saying that the Sociables had shaped crackers. I saw a box of them (they were on sale BOGO). One of the crackers looks sort-of like a star. It isn't a 5-pointed star but I'm thinking that it just might work. Thanks for the suggestion!
Bowling, ceramics tonight, then mahjongg.
KJ - when my kids were little, every December I hung 24 candy canes on a clothes hanger and they had one each night. This was a visual for them to see how close Christmas was getting. I remember that at their daycare they made a chain of loops and every day they'd take a loop off the chain.
I must have misssed it. Carol - did you find out something about Lenora?
Sue in WA - hope everything goes well for your hubby
Chris - congratulations on all counts.

Good Evening Friends,
Frankiesgirl, so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Joyce, sending healing vibes your way. ((((Hugs))))
Wendy, congrats on the half-marathon. I’m very impressed. You look great!!
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I’ve enjoyed reading all the posts so far but didn’t take time to respond to much as my post would be 3 pages long. I have taken two days but have all my Christmas decorations up. I love my tree but it is so much trouble to set up and spread the branches that I had decided this would be the last year for it. As I decorated it, I will admit that I started having second thoughts. Lol I have been having problems with my wrist aching and the past three days it’s been almost constant. I’ve had to take a pain med the past two nights just to get to sleep. I have my regular doctor’s appointment tomorrow so will probably get an x-ray. If it does have a small fracture it is from the fall in the parking lot that I took a couple of months ago. Strange that it’s just kept getting worse. The bad part is that it is my right hand and I can’t do anything with my left.
I hope all of you will illness and injury will heal quickly. Congrats to all with victories and for the rest of us, just keep on keepin’ on.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Back from Israel. Busy at work today and very tired tonight. It doesn't look like I gained.
Unfortunately, my sister died on thanksgiving. We are thankful that she is no longer suffering, but that she died on thanksgiving has been hard for my niece.

Terry, Joyce and DJ, wishing you speedy healing!
Penny, I would definitely be up for visitors to go to Butchart Gardens with! lol
Feeling like I'm coming down with some bug scratchy dry throat, stuffy nose. It could be because I didn't sleep worth a darn last night, must have ben something in the air as hubby didn't sleep well either. Planning on an early night tonight.

I'm so glad I found you all! What a lovely group! Looking forward to getting to know you better and thanks for the warm welcome. Almost through week 1 and I'm definitely hungry. I just keep reminding myself I did it before. I'm guessing it might take longer now that I'm a little older. Just wondering how much you all exercise? I take a brisk walk with the dog for 30 minutes a day but not a lot more... A little bit of yoga. Just wondering if I need to push it a little more.3

Myra - Your 30 min walk will be doing your heart good and the yoga will be helping with strength and flexibility. That's great. For a significant calorie burn you need to be doing a bit more. What do you like doing? Dancing? Swimming? Cycling? Everyone has to find their own best way of burning up a few calories. We have three exercise machines in a spare bedroom and we use them every day. That's not a possible option for everyone I know.
I find I have to get a minimum of 600 calories a day burnt because I love my food. Even then I have to watch what I eat carefully.
Good luck in finding some more exercise you enjoy. (I used to hate exercise apart from dancing)

Chris! Glad to see you back... was getting worried about you. Glad for the raise, glad for the departure of the no-good-nik, and glad you're back, just in general.
Joyce... glad you got to urgent care and got seen.
Lenora... thinking of you, dear heart.
Work just got busier--which is a good thing.

Yeah, I only managed about 300 calories of exercise today ... and it's a bit of struggle to keep the food quantity down. I'm hungry.
BTW - just shy of 300 calories, for me, is about 50 minutes of brisk walking + 12 flights of 20 stairs, up and down and landings.

When I started on MFP, I made a decision to seek every opportunity to be active so I have gradually increased my activity. Now I walk my dogs for 40 minutes before breakfast, 90 minutes after, and several 10 minute walks during the day. I go to three 2 hour line dance classes each week and ride the recumbent exercise bike that's in the middle of the living room while I knit and watch TV. I do strength training 2-3 times a week for bone density health. I didn't start like this, I just added a bit more each day over time and now it's a regular part of my life.
