Thank you Katla.
Sleep interrupted last night by neighbor's snow removal company coming at 2:00. Another neighbor added to the mix by yelling at them. I did inform the neighbor. She lives out of state and is still trying to decide what to do with the property. I also told her her company failed to address their icy sidewalks. I said it would be like us deciding to clear our snow at 2:00 in the morning with a loud snow blower.
I hope I can get back to my sleep routine tonight. We are not expecting snow, so it should be better.

Tere: So good to hear from you! Belated Happy New Year!! Good luck with your hair. I believe you will be every bit as beautiful as ever, maybe even more so.
RV Rita: Love the photo. What is the thing on top of the white column? It resembles an aircraft, I think.
We have a critter sitter lined up to care for our dog in our home when we go on our trip to see the kids. She's a lovely woman and I think it is a very good thing for our dog to be able to stay at home rather than be confined in a cage at the vet's. I called the veterinary office today to let them know she'd be taking care of him. If there is any medical issue she has the authority to take him in to them. They'll contact us for any possible payments. I feel like there is a big load off of my shoulders because that is done.

Been a busy week that is now ending with me catching my husband's cold. He was pretty miserable with his ... hoping mine won't be so bad. (Of course it won't be as bad ... he was the typical male baby with his). We're expecting ice in the next hour or so and then nasty winter conditions. It will be a good night to stay home wrapped in a blanket.
Cathy ... amazing before and after photos! You look wonderful!!
Meals have not been planned and that's problematic. Will be working on that in the coming week.
Have a good weekend.

Hi all!
My day is over and our guests are in bed. I managed to get them out for an afternoon walk and, as a consequence, I have come in under maintenance calories. Phew!
My son's girlfriend is delightful and all the food items went well. She brought champagne.
She also brought the most glorious handmade patchwork cushions as a present for me. My son showed her the online pics of our house so she could pick the perfect colourway. She is the most amazing professional crafts person with her own small studio in the garden. I will take pics of the cushions tomorrow. ..
My son brought me couple of tea bowls, Japanese style, fired in ash. Made by a friend of theirs. Fabulous.
All good. I hope we sleep tonight! They will be leaving around 10.45 to drive to his brother's.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx9 -
Short women- AT 5'8, I can attest to the fact that losing weight at my size is not easy! The one benefit I think I have at 5'8 is that the weight is distributed evenly. But I think that has more to do with my body type, than my height. For that reason, it was easy to ignore the fact that I was gaining, until the rolls began showing up at about 180 pounds. By that time, I was 40 and knee deep in working full time, involvement in my own kids school activities, girl scouts, volunteering. I had no time for me. Now that I have time for me, my energy and physical abilities are compromised. Time to get tough and muscle through.
I guess what we mean by it's "easier" when you are taller, is that you get to eat more calories. Not that much more, but even 150 more a day for maintenance seems like a lot when your calculated maintenance at your goal weight is not even 1300. If you are "taller," you "get" to be a little heavier at goal, so you have a higher calorie allowance.
Losing weight and maintaining that weight loss is hard, no matter how tall or young you are. Or even how active, really. More active = hungrier.
As a short person, I can attest that short people just generally like to complain about being short, because it is a pita most of the time!

Katla - I am so glad you found a dog-sitter. I think it's important for our pupsters to be in familiar surroundings, especially if they aren't used to be boarded a lot.
Tere - this is haircut time it seems, lol. I bet your haircut will be wonderful! I checked out the "Universal Standard" clothing - very nice! If I was still working I'd consider taking them up on their wardrobe building deal. Nice to have tops that fit those of us who are long-waisted. And that's such good news that you lost the weight you gained in the hospital. Let us know how the Vicks salve works!
Becca - don't stay away long! We miss you already!
Beth - glad you didn't put your blankets away - hope your cold is a mild one.
Lenora - every day, you are getting better and better! I admire your cleanout project - good job! And I'll miss our KMart pharmacy as well...they had good prices and never had big lines like at Walmart and Walgreens and Riteaid. Sigh.
Heather - that's so neat about your DS's girlfriend, she sounds like a doll! You know we want to see pictures of the patchwork cushions and tea bowls ;-)
My haircut went well. By the time Kennedy got done trimming the frizzy broken ends, it ended up much like Janetr's! But that's great. A real wash n wear style. She is a doll and on Fridays gives haircuts to kids for $5. Our community is on the poor side and lots of folks can't afford the prices even at the chain salons for their kids. She went to beauty school while still in high school and now has her hair salon helping to pay her way through college. She's on her way to a Business Management degree. A real go-getter.
Get ready for the weekend, ladies!

Well, better late than never. I rarely get out on these message boards but this is one I like to follow. I have been averaging 10,000 steps a day for the first time since last summer. I started in mid-November and was only getting about 6,000 a day. I kept increasing until I got up to 10,000. Now I get at LEAST that every day. Just this week I tried HIIT for the first time. A year ago I didn't even know that that was! Have a great month!7

Well our snow came and it has kicked our butt. Right now we have about 5 inches and a wind chill. It's supposed to be clear around 9 but it started early this morning. I had my appointment this afternoon so Charlie went out and cleaned the car off. But before the snow we had freezing rain, so my, the passenger, door was frozen shut. So he had a real hard time getting that open for me. My B/P was a good decent level in her office but I had taken all of my medicines plus the extra medicine I take for over 150. So she saw me at my best. But I took my B/P machine since it had all my readings in memory. I didn't take th cuff though. My purse was full enough with the machine. So she made some changes in my medicine I am taking instead of adding something new. I am to call her in 1 week to see how the changes work.
Am really getting the dry mouth with my Neurontin. I just wish my fingers felt better from taking the medicine. It isn't bad, not a pain level 8 anymore but I'm just getting tired of it.
My sister got her chemo perm also. She was so proud of it. It was really pretty. But it didn't last. She just thought it was because her husband has curly hair and both her kids had extremely curly hair. I won't burst her bubble that it was just from the chemo. My Dad had curly hair but he is the only one who has it.
I agree about the forum. It is far more than a place of us to come and get advice and assistance on weight loss. I don't know what I would do without the friends I have here. You are all sisters to me.

My hair is wavy. I keep it short. It doesn't get frizzy when it's humid, just curly. I like my hair. I have never dyed it.

I'm enjoying the hair discussion. My Mom had curly hair and mine has always been straight. Now my hairdresser says the new hair that is growing in gray is growing in curly. :-)oops... didn't mean to post yet... Has anyone else had their hair go from straight to curly?
Betsy in NW Washington
No, but I started going grey when I was in my early 30s, and those ones seem thicker/coarser and also want to do whatever they want to do. If I'm going to have hair standing on end or something, it'll be my grey ones.
Speaking of which, I was looking at my hair the other day and I figure it's getting close to dying time again. I do it about once every 6 months and the only reason I can get away with that is that I put in very blond streaks and highlights so as it grows out and my grey starts to show it looks similar to the blond streaks. But there does come a time when that doesn't work ... and that time is at hand.

Lanette - I am doing so much better; now that all my medications (other than the Dilantin) is back to pre-hospital dosages. I have decided that I will move my Rxs to CVS - I use their mail order program, so I figured this would just be easier.
Today I started purging my computer area. OMGoodness ... what a mess! I have thrown away a kitchen trashbag full of just paper. Then I rehung all the pictures ... which sort of look like it is an 'art gallery' of sorts. My sister will probably have a stroke ... but, it is up there and staying. I think when I get finished, it will look a lot better.
Spent all afternoon trying to get my printer up and running. Had to reset it because I got a new router. My ITs had me working on my end by telling me what buttons to press. I am so tired and I am planning on having a cup of coffee and one of my protein bars, take my meds and go to bed soon.

Jake came home this afternoon. His procedure was early this morning and he felt OK after it so he drove home instead of staying another night. The pets and I are delighted.
Stats for today;
*16,000 steps
*153 minutes walking Sasha and Bessie
*101 minutes riding the exercise bike
*taught the line dance class this morning
Jake has to take it easy for two days so I'll be doing all the chores and dog walking but he can go do errands with me tomorrow.
Barbie from NW Washington6 -
Went to the deep water class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Total Body Workout with Resistance Band DVD
I used to have good sized (to me) saddle bags and have for years. After going thru menopause, they don't seem to be as big. Yet, no matter what I do, there's flab on my tummy. Maybe the flab is making the saddle bags look smaller?
okie - thanks so much for your well wishes. I feel much much better today. Went to exercise class. Of course, Vince just said to me "how do you feel". Really, if I didn't feel well, does he think I'd go to exercise class? I came back and said to him "why don't we put the blowmolds away" He told me about how physically exhaused he is and has been for days. Maybe he does do more physical work than I do. Maybe he needs to work more on his endurance. I admit, I'm not as fast as I used to be, but my endurance is still there. Congrats on that weight loss
About haircuts - when Jess gets her hair cut and the last time Vince got his cut, they donate their hair to Locks for Love (that makes wigs for cancer patients). The hair has to be at least 10" long. Vince has gray hair and they really can't use gray hair for wigs...but they do sell the hair.
I feel so so bad that I didn't help Vince take ornaments off one of the trees yesterday, but I just couldn't do it.
Rye - wonder if Susan Dey's hair is gray now???? I very seldom get a headache except for sinus headaches. Glad to hear you're having fewer and fewer migraines. My hair is poker straight
Betsy - a friend of mine who went thru chemo had straight hair and then after her chemo it was curly
katla - we always have someone come watch the cats while we're gone. They are much more comfortable in their familiar surroundings
Margaret - I, too, love that we discuss everything and anything on this site, not just weight loss. You're so right, our everyday lives really affect our eating.
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army. Bought a picture that I think Denise might like, the saying is one of the readings they had at their wedding. I just won't tell her where it came from. Then went to Aldi to get things to make this weekend. Having Rummikub here Tuesday so I need to make a dessert. Found some cut up mango. Love mango, don't love cutting it up. Even tho it expies in a few days, I know that I can freeze it.
tere - that policy of being able to return the clothes makes them being more expensive worth it.
My biggest problem eating seems to be during the day. I don't eat much during the day but then have a big dinner. I know, not the best thing to do. But on the positive, I usually have lots of veges.
Becca - take care. Hope all is well. Your wit and wisom will be missed. Come back real soon
Lanette - the one WalMart always had a long line for prescriptions. Then they opened the Neighborhood Store not far from us and they don't have nearly as long a line. Go figure....
Karen in VA - thank you for the Olivia fix. I'm feeling much better today, thanks for asking. Another good night's sleep and I should be fit as a fiddle
M - I don't think I could go that long between colorings. But I do color my roots every few months so I can usually go about a year before I need an actual color. By then I usually need a cut, too
Lenora - I use Aetna's mail order for my prescriptions and it IS much easier. I can put my prescriptions on
automatic refill.
Fried up some chicken breast patties to have another day and then fried up the last two crabcakes from this batch that I'd made for christmas Eve. Next time I'll fry up the other batch. I didn't use nearly the amount of oil that Jess used, but I won't tell her.

NYKaren, wish my home was large enough to have an exercise bike so that I could use it while watching tv. That would be perfect.
My hair has always been super straight. Not a bend in sight. The gray isn’t any thicker or curlier either. Only complaint I have is how thin it is. Please let me know if anyone finds anything that works. Dr says it’s like male pattern baldness. My mom had very thin hair as she got older too. Oh well I’m learning to live with it.
Was 60 here today and felt like spring. Tomorrow back down to 16. No wonder everyone is sick.
Heard from my cousin that they got the bracelet and loved it. So glad to hear that.
Time to grab my book and read.

Karen, thanks for asking about my day. It went well. One kid tried to tell me he was new and from Minnesota. I wanted to say, “I’m new, too, just off the turnip truck today” but I refrained. Another kid looked just like my son’s childhood friend. Turns out it was his son, so that was neat. I just made the January paycheck cutoff, so I’ll get a check for one day.8

Evening friends. Sorry so many have been sick. Lots of people dying from flu in Dallas County. One of our friends had it and it turned into pneumonia. He had heart issues so was transferred to Dallas and he died on his 56 wedding anniversary. So sad. Services are tomorrow.
I have always had thick, coarse and wavy hair. Right now I think it looks like a brown football helmet. Thinking of changing hair dressers. Unfortunately she is a fellow golfer so I see her a lot.
My DH is really enjoying working out at the Y. He even ask me if we could go to the grocery and buy endame. Who is this man?
Time for bed.

Today's meditation lesson was kindness to self. As I'm saying to myself "May you be happy" Happiness Incarnate (aka Tumble) comes in and touches noses. Instant gratification, positive reinforcement .
Lanette thanks for the Curamed/Curamin tips. Need something to substitute for aspirin while on Xarelto and really don't trust Tylenol. Fleas, yuck. Agree about the poisons, but when we were infested a few months ago we just had to. We applied the yard treatment VERY carefully on a non windy dry day as we dare not let it drift down the ravine to our water source. :noway:

Welcome llorenz06 and brava for starting walking again!
Allie Thanks! Not sure if DDS is a specialist, unfortunately we are in a small town in a remote area where there is not enough competition to keep prices down. DH will NOT go to Medford (3 hrs away) to get a better price ;} What did Alfie chew this time?
Katla I was on Fosamax a decade ago, but switched to Boniva when I started getting burning in my throat. Then stopped taking Boniva for no good reason. Dr wants me back on alondrate once a week but I'm afraid to start 'til I talk to him about my heartburn and esophageal spasm whatever it was..

Machka - Enjoy those cherries. So jealous of that. I really miss the fruit we used to have when we lived on the acreage in the Okanogan. 44 fruit trees was a lot for the prairie kids that both worked more than full time. Being prairie kids we thought you shouldn't waste any of it apparently other people don't utilize the windfalls.
Karen in Virginia - Thanks for the Olivia fix.
Back was still really on fire at work. I didn't lift anything or even move much but made it through.
I almost fell asleep on my way home. Scary!
I went to Costco with Jheri after I had a nap. You will all be glad to hear that she drove. I found a new swim suit and beach towel for Harmony's birthday present. I am so glad they have the scooters there or I never would have made it through.
I put my few purchases away, got supper going and collapsed in the recliner. Put heat on my back. I may have overdone it. Trying to push through a bit more every day. Hoping that the cortisone gets it to the point where exercise is a bit more bearable.
Keira had another sewing lesson today. Jheri says she had strict instructions to bring the sewing machine along when we picked Keira up from school that way we could just drop her at Auntie Bev's. She continues to be excited and I know it is good for my sister also. I will be interested to see the next project.
Jheri took Greysyn to the doctor. He has social anxiety that seems to have got considerably worse since he became an adolescent. He was given a form to fill out and the doctor told Jheri she was right to be concerned. Jheri filled them in on the mental illness on her Dad's side and my sister's depression. Also Ryan's ADHD. He will be referred to a psychiatrist. They are just trying to find the best fit. In the mean time he is reading some very complicated novels, practicing his guitar, going to movies and checking on this Grandma. I don't know if she mentioned how much better he does when the sun shines and he can be outside. I have been worried about him and I am glad Jheri is being proactive.
Supper was simple but I really enjoyed it. It's a little weird how much steamed spinach I can eat.
Off work for 2 days now. Yeah.
Phoned Harmony and sang Happy Birthday today. She giggled. We will see her on Sunday for the birthday party. Looking forward to seeing which cake Jheri creates.

I was a Canadian prairie kid too.
Like in the Okanogan, orcharding is big business here in Tasmania, and much of Australia. We spent a day visiting one of the biggest cherry orchards in BC when we were in Canada last June, and now they're coming to visit the orchard my husband manages in the next few days. It's a good way to exchange ideas.
And we only get one 5 kg box for ourselves, plus maybe an occasional very small bag early on in the picking and toward the end, out of it. That's enough for me! In fact, I actually struggle to know what to do with them all.
Anyway, I've got a lovely apple-cherry crumble cooling on the stove right now.

Some of you know about my friend who has DH in care home with dementia and son who is bipolar Had her over last night first time for 3 or 4 weeks ( due to my holiday) she has had chest infection and seemed very low. Told me she has stopped taking the dog out in the morning to get the daily paper, says she has lost all confidence. I suggested a few things but she can be very stubborn. She is nearly 86 but just a year ago she was great. I worry about her but can only be there if she needs me.
Anyway we had a nice drink, an Irish cream liqueur my grandaughter gave us for Christmas it's called Coole Swan. We had achat about TV theatre films, she has an amazing memory for films and actors and actresses and she went home a bit more cheerful I think.
Upshot is it makes me even more determined to keep up my weights, exercise and healthy eating as I get older (73 in May) as I hope to live as long as she has but in much better health.
Have a good weekend

I wanted to go for a bicycle ride outside today, but it was another day of threatening thunderstorms.
I went for a short walk to get something for dinner and the apples for my apple-cherry crumble ... and then I did 50 minutes on my trainer.
Now I'd better have a look at my homework project.
