Rye, you look wonderful. You are an inspiration and I hope I can look that good one day.
Heather, I want those bowls. I love both the color and pattern.
Comfort food like when I’m sick is Lipton noodle soup with saltines with butter. For emotional eating I go for Cheetos with ranch dip (but only if DH isn’t around as he hates to see me eating that junk. I could eat a whole bag in a day.
DD decided to go to a hotel for a night. Her dad gave her money for Christmas and she just wanted to get away by herself for a night. Work has been super stressful for her and I think her boyfriend is breaking up with her again. He won’t talk to her and said he would talk with her next week. This is like the fourth time they have broken up but they just keep getting back together again. He is older than her and went through a bad divorce. He is still in love with his ex. No chance of them getting back together as she is now with a woman. So he won’t commit to my daughter. I told her he needs to get some help. I just wish she would just move on with her life and find someone who would appreciate her. But all I can do is let her figure it out and be there when it falls apart.
Well time for the nightly reading. It’s dropped to 6 tonight which is a big drop from 60 yesterday so we have had the wood stove going all day. It’s nice and toasty and I’m ready to snuggle in bed with my book.

I can't remember who asked, but yes, the outdoor spigot froze & ruptured - we do have one that is vulnerable, & always shut that one off for the winter, but not this one. So yes, I was in the crawl space at 3 a.m. shutting off the valve to the spigot. LOL! Oh the joys of home ownership!

Machka, well done on your run! Sounds like it was a lot of fun even though your foot went numb.
Rye, you are a hot chicky. Glad to finally have a picture in my mind now when I read your posts.
Beth, my laundry room and linen closet both need major reorganizing. Why don't you fly over here to NZ and help me out?
Well, it's been crazy here and still is as I have got my daughter and her husband and two kids staying with us as they have moved all their furniture out of their house and are cleaning it before moving three hours away, so there is noise and mess galore. Grandson is cranky with an ear ache. I went to take a little break and have a lie down this afternoon and pulled back the sheets to find a whitetail spider sharing our bed! My husband had shown me bite marks on his torso earlier today and asked me what I thought they were and I said they looked like spider bites to me! I also was woken up several times last night with the feeling that something was crawling on me.
I am quite phobic about spiders and at least twice a year I have nightmares about black spiders falling off the ceiling into my sheets. I wake up screaming and rip all the bedding off before my husband can calm me down. Hope I don't have my nightmares after finding a spider in my bed. He is dead now. Mostly I try to catch spiders and take them outside but one that is hiding in my sheets must die immediately.
Took queens out today and hubby made four new hives with my little girls...I've got 8 more making for next week. The hives are starting to get into the queen making mood. I will take the 8 out on Wednesday and put more cells in.
Took the dogs for a walk in a forest on the other side of town where I rarely go and went on a trail that I used to walk on a few years ago. Discovered it was blocked by fallen trees and no longer in use...but before I turned around I rescued a little bird that had gotten its wing tangled in a sticky vine. It was fluttering desperately and couldn't free itself. Had been there for awhile I could tell. I set it free and thought that God must have directed me to that trail today just for that reason...I had No Intention of driving there today, but somehow that's where I ended up! Wendy8 -
NYKaren, wish my home was large enough to have an exercise bike so that I could use it while watching tv. That would be perfect.
That was one of the things we were looking for when we were looking for a place to live about 3.5 years ago. We had a little list of features we wanted: 3 bedrooms so that one could be an office, an area for us to set up our trainers and weights, a large area for our bicycles and sports equipment. It took a little bit of looking because houses in Australia don't normally have basements ... but fortunately houses in Tasmania sometimes do have something sort of like a basement.
My husband spend a couple months fixing up the area so that I can go down and ride my trainer while watching TV ... which is just what I'm planning to do in a little bit. I need to spin a bit and stretch things out.

Machka - I am drooling just thinking of your apple cherry crumble.
Kate UK - Your friend is so lucky to have you. Yes, we all need to be proactive for our physical, emotional and intellectual health. Here's to being the best we can.
Allie- I wish I could wave a wand and rid you of your financial fears. Tom needs to pay you.
Michele - It wasn't an extra shift. I'm just not doing well with the 6a.m. start. There are 6 of us in the management team. They are all younger than me. One day I won't be doing this.
Rita - Families can be difficult. Glad you are taking care of YOU!
Rye - Looking Good!
Comfort food - If I'm sick it is always home made chicken noodle soup, saltines with butter and tea with milk and sugar.
Emotional? Diving straight into a vat of chocolate every time and maybe a glass of wine.
Slept in until 9 a.m. and started my day slowly. First stretches then coffee and duolingo Spanish.
Did a few household chores and then went out with Jheri. Waited in car while she did a consultation with her new commission client. She says it is going to be very difficult as the woman has a very neutral decor and really doesn't want much colour. Jheri is all about colour but says this will be good to get her out of her comfort zone and stretch her as an artist.
We went to a scrapbooking place then on to Michael's ( the reason I was along). We put the 55% coupons to use and got her 2 sets of alcohol ink. I'm sure she was creating after she dropped me off.
We were invited to my sister's for supper. We always know what we are getting. Les cooks roast, potatoes and peas. In my honour they added carrots tonight. Lol. We had a discussion about exercise, walking, etc. My sister seemed more interested than she has ever been.
Harmony has had a fever and they finally took her to a clinic. Just as Grandma suspected it was an ear infection. Hoping the antibiotic works magic and she is good for her birthday party. Waiting on updates.
Larry invited me to go look at this old car he might by for parts. He wants company and is bribing me with the possibility of a visit with my best friend from childhood who lives in Pincher Creek. I would love it as long as we are home in time for the party. Jo and I always pick up as if we just saw each other yesterday. She and her parents were very important to me. Once they discovered I had to have great French marks for University we never spoke English in their house again. Her Mom helped a 17 year old me plan my parent's 25th anniversary. Joe and Flo were such wonderful people. They also introduced me to wine with dinner. Aaaah......memories.
-Sharon in Lethbridge where it was a wonderful day.6 -
MICHELLE will probably take turmeric as a capsule need to do a bit of research
RYE you look great
I need to get back to sorting photos, I decided that if they are on phone tablet or computer they are not seen and also even though backed up to external hard drive, they can easily be lost. I tend to print out a selection from holidays, parties etc and put them in albums. I know this is adding to the clutter in my 'office' but I get such pleasure looking at my Mums old albums that I want my kids and grands to have the same.
Must do some exercise at home today as I don't do the gym at weekends, gym was busy on Friday, suppose lots of people make New Year resolutions to get fitter. Probably will gradually get back to the stalwarts.

Machka - You did so well. Especially as it was only the third time you've run that distance. Well done! :drinker: I looked up some info on times etc and yours would be considered a reasonable time. Considering all the rest of your life it is a real achievement. Sorry about the numb foot. Have you Googled it?
By the way, the 10k world record for a woman is 29.17.
Karen - Love your mentors. I'm like you in the way my brain works. Love a good example to follow.
I'm completely neurotic about "saving" stuff. I have a USB stick that I carry around with me all the time in my purse in case the house burns down. I also save everything to Dropbox. (Cloud) My files on there are a shambles, but at least it's all on there. My writing goes on my stick. Then I email it to myself. Then I put it on Dropbox, then I print it. My nightmare is losing my real photographs in a fire. I am the repository of all the family photos.
I found some photos of my son as a baby and young child in the same box as the photo of our family. I got them out to show his girlfriend, along with the babyhood album. She seemed delighted to see them and, while he pretended to be horrified, he snapped them all and put one on his Facebook profile. He was a beautiful toddler with shoulder length blond ringlets. I kept his first haircut and was able to show them his shiny blonde curls. Gorgeous. You have all seen the photos of him now.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -
Heather, I normally do plan dinner ahead of time and have something quick to heat and eat, but the wheels did fall off the bus a bit this past week. I'm not going to beat myself up about it, it happened, I'm moving on. And every once in awhile, I really do enjoy pizza!
We had pizza about once a month while I was losing weight. I was exercising enough it fit into my calorie limit.
Oddly enough, in the last year we've kind of gone off pizza for some reason. But I doubt it will ever be completely off the menu.

Thanks!!
It's actually the second time I've run 10 km ... I've done 8.6 km, 10.7 km and today's 10 km all in 3 weeks.
I have googled numb feet, but didn't really come up with anything. I might talk to my chiropractor about it. I wonder if it might have something to do with my lower back.
The fastest woman on this 10K has a record of about 31 minutes, but did this event in 33 minutes.
Those times are just incredible!
I will be backing off on the running now and focusing more on cycling for a bit. I've got several cycling events I need to get ready for. I may get back into running in May or June, although that said, I probably will keep running a little bit now and then.
I also discovered last night that I've got to redo most of the routes for the cycling events we host. A small wooden bridge is being replaced and won't be ready in time. That doesn't thrill me at all. It's good they're replacing that bridge, but the timing isn't very good.

Good morning all! Good afternoon/evening to all of you ladies who are timezones away!!
IN regards to the clutter or saving things: My DH and I have flip-flopped over the years. I grew up with clutter, and since being married to a neat freak, became some what of a neat/organized clutter free person. I have one bin of recyclables that I use for crafts. DH, however, has taken to leaving things lay around the house and saving EVERYTHING. (I think that comes from not wanting to spend money on similar or same things later) I have tried many times to send the two bins of sweaters from the 1980's (think Bill Cosby sweaters) to Goodwill, but he always catches me and stops me because he "may need them some day" I have arrived at a "can't take it with me" place. I think I am mentally preparing to live in an RV; or perhaps live out of a suitcase in my old age and just spend money on constant cruise ship living.
Rye-I think this is the first picture you have posted of yourself?! Don't laugh, but because of your avatar/profile, I figured you would be a red-head! YOU ARE GORGEOUS!! I bet your husband snaps a LOT of pics of you!
Oh shoot! 7am already! I gave myself 30 minutes of computer time this morning and it's gone! I have to make some banana bread to take to my inlaws. Here I go, off like a dirty shirt! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
Rye - thanks for bringing up the question of what are our comfort foods and emotional eating foods. I am also a roast beef/potatoes & gravy/carrots person for comfort foods. Chicken noodle soup with home-made noodles.
Emotional foods - seems like all of us are drawn to salty/sweet/crunchy stuff. For me, it's chips, nuts, Reese cups, peanut butter. Not TOTALLY empty calories, lol, but the candy comes close. I crave my evening salads because they have a lot of shredded cabbage and carrots in them - you would think I'd get my fill of crunchiness right there.
KJ - you mentioned going on a mindful fast. I know several of you are also doing 5:2 intermittent fasting. I am looking at new ways to break my "eating when not hungry" habit which has kicked into high gear for some reason with my DH's lack of appetite.
I am interested in hearing about your experiences with intermittent fasting-or any type of fasting for that matter.
Today might be a good day to start. So far I've had 2 cups of coffee with maybe 1/2 cup hemp milk. Woke up at 3 with neck ache and sinus headache - coffee is the cure, lol.
Have a splendid day, ladies!

We are all different ...
It's funny ... roast beef, and especially steak, are right at the bottom of the list of things I want to eat at the best of times. They are definitely off the list if I'm not feeling myself.
I had steak just about every Sunday from the time I could first eat meat until I was 18 years old. In all that time, I never liked steak. I liked most of Sunday's dinner ... just not the steak. After somewhere in the neighbourhood of 800 steak dinners, if I never even see steak again, it will be too soon.
But my parents love it! And I horrified my father, when he and my mother took me to a steakhouse for a nice dinner out several years ago, by ordering the chicken.
Machka in Oz5 -
My comfort food as a teenager was white rice. Sometimes with a hard boiled egg. I used to put loads of black pepper on top. Later I added hot Indian pickle. I rarely, if ever, allow myself white rice these days, but occasionally I get a pang when I pass by my large glass jar of rice on the windowsill, but I haven't succumbed yet!
If I'm feeling emotional it would be cheese, salami, or crunchy peanut butter (which I daren't keep in the house) But most likely it would be pastis.

Rye: You look fantastic. I would give anything to have a waist. Yours is so tiny.
Barbie: Happy anniversary.
Decluttering: Wow! Kay and all of you who are participating. Boy, I need to do it so much. Dresser drawers, cook books, utensil drawers…what a mess! We have coats and other clothes from both sets of parents that just need to go to Good Will. They are all quality stuff and my DH won’t let go.
Lenora: How many stuffed animals do you have in your home?
Comfort Food: A nice bowl of creamy soup or cooked beans with ham over rice! Or, chicken and dumplings.
Emotional Foods: Salty crunchy anything!
Wendy: Good for you freeing the little bird.

Last night watched an old old movie with William Holden called "Apartment for Peggy" I don't know if it was a popular or famous movie back in 1948, but it had such an uplifting story, I recommend streaming it, all about facing life's challenges with a positive attitude--loved it.
Having brunch with a friend who is facing incredible challenges in her life, I hope I can be a comforting sounding board.
Well best get moving! NYKAREN7 -
Karen Although we have outdoor faucets that we do not have to shut off in the winter (I am not sure what they are called) I still put this styrofoam caps on them. You can get them at any hardware store.
I am still trying out ideas about sleep. I am now reading a book called The Power of Rest by Mathew Edlund. He too suggests creating rituals around preparing yourself for sleep. I do now have some rituals in place. The big one is to turn off electronics an hour to two hours before sleep. He does say your ritual will be unique onto you.
One he suggests that I am going to start trying is to make a list of your problems not before sleep. He suggests right after a nourishing dinner. He then suggests trying to think of solutions to help me with my problems. He doesn't guarantee the solutions will work. His idea is to start training my mind to go into problem solving mode. The other idea behind this is to do this so if my problems follow me into sleep my mind will work more productively on the problems. I think it might help me not get stuck in victim mode. This is part of cognitive therapy. I like the idea because I like things that try to give a new perspective to problems where I tend to get stuck in old patterns that no longer serve me.
Some one mentioned stuffed animals. If you have ones you are ready to part with you can possibly donate them to a school or a police department if they are in good condition. My friend the Kindergarten teacher gives each of her students a small stuffed animal to read to during independent reading time. The police use them when they have to go to homes where children are witnessing traumatic events. It gives the child something comforting to hold to. Check with both of them first and see if they are need of them.

Good morning, gals
Rye... Gorgeous photo of you. Totally a hottie. You have an hourglass figure.
Carol.... I'm seconding what you say. I've never had a waist, even when I get to my target weight. I'm short and square. :-) Like my DH would say, square in more ways than one. Ha!
Comfort food for sickness is potatoes and pasta..... and emotional comfort is chips, nuts and chocolate.
Have a great day everyone,

You all made me feel very good, thanks for your kind words. I did post a photo of myself before. In sunglasses and a Mad Hatter hat I purchased last summer.
Reflections and the Mad Eye Moody effect
I don’t see what everyone else sees, literally, when I see my self on photos or reflections. I am TOLD by those I love that my lazy eye is usually not visible at all in real life. But if they stand next to me in front of the mirror they can see what I see - an eye that points straight up and out (thus making it look like it is bulging out of the socket). I look grotesquely disformed.
This isn’t a perception problem, my ‘lazy eye’ for some reason in reflections (and to a lesser extent in photos) is appallingly extreme and very ugly. And it is physically impossible for me to see myself unless it in a reflection. And, honestly, I’ve never quite believed those who tell me that I don’t actually look like what I see in the mirror. I see someone with a comical or grotesque disfigurement (think Mad Eye Moody in the Harry Potter movies).
I learned to use mirrors without actually looking directly at them. How to clean my face and brush my hair without letting my working eye stray to to the area of my eyes or my face as a whole. Since I’m legally blind in that eye anyway I had to learn to put on eye makeup by touch (eyes closed) so just learned to put it all on that way. I can shock people who watch me perfectly put on eyeliner, lipstick and color my cheeks with my eyes closed. (I can put my makeup on by touch only if I close my eyes).
Mentally I don’t think I will ever be able to see myself as anyway other than disfigured. If I try to, a random photo or a glance In the mirror proves otherwise. The reflection, I am told, is not the actuality: but it is what I see if I look.
So, as a mirror avoider I was able to pack on those pounds without being fully aware of the impact on what I looked like. It is a relief not to feel ashamed of the casual photo anymore.
So I really do thank you all for the nice compliments- I just am really sucky about knowing how to handle them.
I’ll be back later,
Rye5 -
Rye: I'll add my voice to that of others--YOU LOOK GREAT!!! As to comfort food, I like homemade soup. We haven't had soup out of a can in years. :noway:
Lanette: I made it to yoga three times last week and I feel better because of it! I am still feeling a bit under the weather, though. I'm hoping to muster enough energy to spend time with Arrow today. Not sure I'll make it. The poor old guy is stuck in his paddock if I don't go and get him out for some exercise. He has a nice paddock with room to move around but he does better with attention. Don't we all! :ohwell:
Barbie: Happy Anniversary!
Heather: We are often on a similar "page" with things, but I am cloud phobic. I want control of my own data. :ohwell:
Machka: I've been thinking about your numb foot, too. Is it possible that you've developed a bone spur? I wonder whether different shoes would help. Good luck.
We have fog hanging in the trees across the river, but it isn't getting all the way down to the water. It is actually very appealing to see, but I am feeling pleased to be warm and comfortable inside the house.
Have a great day!

On the topic of decluttering: We downsized significantly with our move from Ohio to Texas. Think 3000 sq ft to 1700 sq ft. We let go of so much stuff and then when we arrived here much more. It was about keeping only that which meant something to us and we would miss having in our immediate life. Not something stored away. We are currently looking for our forever home and are considering something even smaller. We had the kids own their boxes of childhood goodies. Ros has her stuff in her new home and Ben stuffed his in his Houston apt. It truly is a freeing feeling as the process progressed and continues to progress. It's not easy and the hubs and I have had words about stuff to jettison and stuff to keep. We are doing our kids a favor. Take it slowly. I put the donation stuff in a box by the front door and let it sit for a bit till I no longer even know what is in the box. Then one day we announce it is going to Goodwill. Phew.
Have you all in my heart!

Rita, one of my happiness commandments is "Don't take things personally". When my mother started telling me that I never called and wasn't there for her, I made a commitment to call her once a week (same day, same time) and wear my emotional kevlar vest so that whatever she said bounced off. I did that for many years My husband did the same thing with his mother (she lived to past 90).
Barbie
Good plan Barbie. I was considering doing that. You just convinced me!
Question, why do we do that, torture our emotional selves to make other happy and put on our ‘kevlar’ to call and keep in touch?
Must be love. Or duty?

Lenora will pass your comments, especially what Lou says about his dentures, to Joe and pray he gets off that kick. Many thanks! I too have trouble opening plastic drink bottles, so got a "husband"...

The man who had this house before installed a similar device under one of the kitchen cabinets nearest the fridge. Brilliant!
Wendy gutted indeed, just as I felt when my pc's hard drive crashed. Good reminder to back up the external HD to cloud and to the new laptop.
DJ Chicken bog?
MIchele + Barbie Joe also is quick to say "You shouldn't go" so I keep my little aches and pains to myself. He's such a homebody We sure can get a lot done when they're out of the house, but it sure seems too empty and quiet... ;{
Joyce "do not depend on mental list, write it down" reminded me to add a note that's been rattling in and out of my head to my pre-appt email to Dr. Thanks!
Sharon How long have your Drs and PTs been recommending retiring to disability? Missed postings about the accident, could you remind me? Love the look of trees after snow and ice storms, but do NOT miss that air-hurts-your-face feeling. She must be nutz to keep Harmony out in the park. Is She using Harmony to make you feel bad?
Machka electrolytes for swollen ankles? Would you share brand name or important elements/contents? Thanks for the recipes, I don't normally like spinach cooked, but will give the saag paneer a try this week ;} Do you think I could substitute arugula for the spinach?
Okie I, too, hate stairs, especially going down, also use arms to get up from sitting and really struggle to get up from the floor. YOU are RIGHT, regular movement helps. Getting down on the floor every day for the past 2 weeks has made it a little easier to get back up.
Lanette (and Okie) one of the gals at T'ai Chi has EXTREMELY naturally thick and curly salt and pepper hair. She gathers it up in a head band and lets it cloud around her head like an aura. Not a "natural", not dreads, some corkscrew curls as it springs out. It's wild and gorgeous and I'm envious.
Over time, still 7 pgs to go and off to breakfast and prep for church.
Mindful and WARM Hugs to all,

Foods that I eat 'emotionally' eating are things like chips, popcorn, cheese, crunching and spicy, I guess, more than anything.
Pip - I would have never guessed you had a cat along with the crew of doggies. What is his/her name? Our cat, Mr. Tux, will come to the door and look inside and act very 'put out' when Cracker gets to come in and he doesn't. He will 'occasionally' sneak inside if we leave the door open; but, always runs to hide under Will's bed. To get him outside, all I have to do is close the door. I can see him under the bed, even though he flattens his ears back when I look for him. Then he will come out and make a walk around the entire perimeter of each room and then goes outside on his own.
Burning the last of the wood that Louis had set aside for me. He'll be home tomorrow and then I won't have to worry about getting the wood to the house.
