Machka: Your location sounds divine. I can think of nothing better than sitting by the water to eat my lunch in the company of ducks. :flowerforyou:
Pip: I love the photo of you and your sister.
DJ: Hello back-at-cha!
SueBDew: Our town has a senior center that is partially funded by a thrift shop they operate. We take most things that are still useful to their thrift shop. Goodwill is in the neighboring town and we've taken things there from time to time, too. :flowerforyou: I just read Kim's post about donating books to her library. Our library also has an ongoing book sale to help their book budget. I've donated many books to the for their book sale.
Kim: I'm glad the housemate is working out well. Yay!!! I hope this turns out well for a long time to come.
Joyce: I think Machka has given you the best advice. See what your doctor has to say. Chamomile tea is soothing drink before bedtime. Coffee is the opposite. :flowerforyou:
NY Karen: I'd like to know your recipe for red lentil soup. It sounds like it would be nutritious and tasty. Do you share recipes?
Peach: I am astonished at the cold weather you've been having in Georgia. I visited there in winter when my son graduated from boot camp years ago and it was chilly, but nothing like what is going on this year. BRRRR!
I'm finally feeling enough better to consider spending some time at the stable. This has been a weird ailment--no head cold, just a minor headache & chronic exhaustion for the past couple of weeks. I'm happy to feel better.

did an hour of zumba last night and a 2mile walk in the snow/cold with my dog. First in awhile Ive doubled up my exercise since I started seeing a Chiropracter about 8 weeks ago after a back injury that I have no idea how I did LOL. Anyway Im feeling it today, time for Advil. My poor dog has a swollen ankle joint today and its bugging him, so I doubled his arthritus med this morning and hes doing better. I have a husky that loves the snow and cold but it doesnt love him!6

My oldest sister passed a couple of hours ago. She was the oldest and me the youngest with four sisters in between, she always called us the "bookends". She's enough older than me that she was more like a second Mom to me. I was only 5 when she married and 6 when my first niece was born.

Janetr - So sorry.
I know how much I cherish my brother. I recall she had not been in good health for some time. We have seen photos I think. Lots of hugs for you at this time.

Janet- Sending much love and hugs your way!
Cheri- Happy birthday, friend! Hope your day gives you many wonderful moments!
Rita - I have a mammogram today, too. They don't bother me (uncomfortable, but not unbearable); but the past two times I have gotten one, I have gotten called back because of "suspicious shadows" and it always ends up being fibrous tissue. My insurance won't pay for the second mammogram unless there is a problem. This year I am going to ask them to take a couple extra pics of the suspicious breast (Sounds like a mystery novel; The Suspicious Breast) so that I don't have to come back for a second mammogram. *sigh
Heather- Thanks for the arch band support info. I have ordered some on E-bay (new). Good for you on the walks before and after your nice meal! Stretch out those yoga muscles!
DJ- Hello! Nice to see you posting! How are you? Hanging in there with your daughter?
Barbara-It's funny how nicknames and untruths stick with us. When I was in grade school, the kids made fun of my laugh (I cackled), so I "learned" a new laugh. Then in middle school my sister's friend told me I had big ears (untrue), but I kept them covered by my hair after that. In high school I was made fun of because I was SO flat chested (didn't go through puberty until 17). Then a move to Mexico gave me an eating disorder when a friend told me I was fat (size 8 and 5'8?!?). I would never want to go back to any of those ages, but if I could only give the younger me a little more self-confidence and self worth....impossible dream. *sigh The only thing that is left for us to do, is move forward from where we are now! Give the past the finger and just move forward.!!
Rye- LOVE Clueless! Gets me giggling every time!
Carol- So, what kind of soup are you making down south in freezing cold Georgia?
Pip- Nice pic of you and your sis. I see a bit of resemblance; but not a lot. I come from a family of six kids. Some of us look alike, others not so much. My older sister and I are like the same face and body but with different coloring (I am dark hair, dark eyes and she is blond blue eyed). Our personalities are very different, though. I look like and am most like my older brother. When I was in middle school, my friends would come to my house for the first time and see a picture of my older brother on the wall and say "That's a weird picture. When did you get that taken?" it was the 70's and his hair was the same length as mine. lol
Day 3 into my high protein meal plan. I am SO sick of protein; but I will get used to it, again. I have been making a "layer" bowl for my past couple lunches. A layer of shredded and cumin spiced chicken, a layer of refried beans, a layer of guacamole (homemade-without mayo), a layer of cheese (1 oz shredded), some pico de gallo, and a bit of hot sauce. I did not buy chips, because I didn't want to be tempted by the crunch; but DAMNED if my DH didn't buy some and some other crunchy things that he knows that I love. In his defense, he doesn't know that I am back on my meal plan. Since he had his dental work done last week, he has been on soft foods and eating and sleeping when he wants, so he is just beginning to become aware of what is going on in the house. I will have to put a sign on his cupboard though. For my own sake. Just to remind me of what I want; not what I want NOW.
Oh, DD asked me to sign up for an app called Marco Polo. It is a video messaging app. She has been sending me little 30 second videos of Joaquin talking, standing and moving around things, eating, feeding the dog...I am loving it! Just have to get her to NOT send them to me at 11 at night. I hear my phone ping in my sleep, and there is NO WAY I can get back to sleep knowing that there is a little video of that baby.
Here you go Cathy and Suebdew- In honor of the two ladies that were with me when Joaquin had his first blueberry! We have created a MONSTER!!

Janet R - I am so sorry about your sister. My heart goes out to you.
Heather - The girls are just adorable, and Bea in that tutu is a treasure.
Kelly - LOVE the Joaquin pic!
And it tells of who we are that we can commune with the grieving and celebrate the joys as well, in just a few posts. It's all about love, in the end, isn't it.
Love y'all,

Janet My heart goes out to you, so sorry for the loss of your oldest sister.
Katla I'd be happy to share, it is from New York Times, one of their most requested soup recipes
Red Lentil Soup with Lemon
3 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp. ground cumin
1/4 tsp salt or to taste
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
pinch of cayene or chili powder to taste (or you can leave it out)
1 quart chicken OR vegetable broth
2 cups of water
1 cup red lentils (sorted/cleaned)
1 large carrot, diced
juice of 1/2 lemon, more to taste
3 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro (or leave it out if you hate cilantro)
Procedure:
==Heat the oil, add onion garlic and saute until golden, stir in tomato paste, and all dry seasonings and saute for 2 minutes longer
==Add broth, 2 cups water, lentils and carrot. Bring to a simmer, then partially cover pot and turn heat to medium-low. Simmer until lentils are soft, about 30 minutes. Taste and add salt if necessary.
==Using an immersion or regular blender, puree half the soup. You can leave it somewhat chunky.
==Stir in lemon juice and if you like, cilantro, serve with a drizzle of olive oil if you like.
I've varied this soup today by adding spinach leaves before they spoiled and it was really good. It is a basic recipe that can be adjusted and still seems to hold up! Hope you enjoy.
