Fiona I love the name Fiona! Regarding exercise I took someone’s suggestion here (Lanette or Barbie) to start weight training and picked up the book Strong Women, Strong Bones by Miriam Nelson at her suggestion. Much of the good material in that book is also in this site in a free downloadable pdf which the author contributed to: http://growingstronger.nutrition.tufts.edu/
Thanks for the link Rye I have just downloaded it
Welcome JAYNE and FIONA

Happy Friday,
Jayne, Welcome! You are a member of the group with your first post. I think you will find this to be a very supportive group. Everyone has a different plan for losing weight. Mine is to track daily everything I put in my mouth and only focus on today. if I think ahead of all the days to come, I get overwhelmed and it seems impossible to do. Also focus on how you feel when you eat good food. It’s so easy to focus on the number. I also view this as a life plan rather than a diet. Something I will have to do in one form or the other for the rest of my life. You can do it!
Becca, love the Japanese way of decluttering. Lol
Sharon, you don’t need a reason to buy the ring. I sometimes buy myself something and call it “just because”. No guilt. If it brings you pleasure it is worth it. Also, you’ve had it rough recently, do something good for yourself. Good for you standing your ground about the prizes.
Heather, Snoopy happy dance on hitting your weekly target!
Machka, Sounds like you are really putting the rubber to the road!
Kelly, you will pass the home visit with flying colors I’m sure.
Michelle, what are Silver Sneakers?
Fionawilliamson, Welcome to the group! I’m sure you will find a lot of info about exercise here. I’m the last person to talk about exercise so I will leave it up to the experts.
Pip, such sad eyes.
Allie, just hang in there and know we are all right there with you. ((HUGS))
Becca, sending good thoughts for the surgery.
Bad day yesterday, better one today. Still in a holding pattern numbers wise. Better than gaining.

Becca - Loved the Japanese method of de-cluttering.
I did not do that when my sister and I de-cluttered our bathroom (at least not after the first 10 minutes). Our bathroom looks so much nice and Louis isn't stroking out about us doing the de-cluttering. I have done Will's room (although I have about 12 sets - or partial sets) on the floor and bed. Some of it is because I don't know which ones might be queen-sized. I only need to keep one set of queen-sized and one set of king-sized. I did the china cabinet and I still think I can get rid of a few glasses and some plates. Sister got my Mother's china so I will give her the platter that goes with it. I must not have had a 2nd platter (for Thanksgiving) is the only reason I must have gotten it. We'll be doing the kitchen (mostly). I need to get Trey to come over and decide if the sausage that is in the freezer is still good. I tried to get him to separate it and put just 2 links in a package rather than 4. That way we'd probably have eaten it. Will is coming home in a few weeks and I want it out of the freezer before he gets here, if it isn't any good. So tonight we will either have hot dogs or tamales.
M - I love the picture of the koi. A former neighbor of ours did one (in watercolor) and we were surprised that he had so many pictures he could enter in the art show that year; but, didn't do so because we were not allowed to enter anything under glass.
I would like to get my studio in shape so I would not be so frustrated trying to find my art supplies. Right at the moment, can't find my colored pencils and that has upset me a lot.
Will is coming home in a few weeks and I cannot wait to see him. He is going to a quail hunt that some of his friends put on and he hasn't seen some of his friends for several years. Tami isn't coming with him. Boo-Hiss! He will spend the night he gets here for the weekend with us and again on Sunday night when he leaves. It's basically a 'men only weekend' so that is why Tami isn't coming and also she has to be home for Mallory.
Had a MRI done yesterday as well as a Dilantin level. I hated spending 40+ minutes in a tube where I could not move. When I get into a position that I cannot move from my nose and face and back all start itching at once, I kept telling myself, 'you're asleep, you don't feel this' or 'it will be over soon'. Neither helped much and I was almost in tears when it did stop.

Welcome new people!
Just stick around and you will pick up some great ideas. By the way, I DON'T DO FRIENDS, so no good asking me!
I'm at the hotel. I've had a cup of tea (the most important thing) and I'm about to watch a favourite TV programme. Loads of time to get ready, but I hope the plaits (braids) don't defeat me. I've brought ribbon etc with me. The cinema is less than half an hour's walk away, so I will get some exercise in. I have bought sushi for dinner before I leave.

Hi ladies, quick question!
Does anyone know if there is somewhere on MFP to find your performance summary by year please. I have last year's and would be interested to know how it compares to previous years.
Thanks, if anyone has the answer.
All the best

Heather ~ you look adorable , have a wonderful time... one of my favorite movies, I would have a ball going to something like that..
my DB is starting to freak out, told him start taking the anti anxiety meds your supposed to be taking every day!!!
I do have a valium that I might just take a 1/4 pill to take the edge off tonight.
I am having a bit of a fit , here in the US the flu is running rampant, and I am hoping the good lord keeps us all in a plastic bubble tonight.. and tomorrow.
It is a beautiful sunny day but cold...6 -

Strange thing. I used emojis in my messages and they are not there now. I like to use the smiley and hearts. Weirdness??? Confused emoji. Ha! Now one posted!
For some reason if you use emojis in your posts they have a tendency to make your post disappear. Now I can use an Navy anchor emoji to " save my spot" in how far I've read till, and that posts fine.

Heather have a wonderful time!!!!!!! I love the " climb every mountain" part and would be singing really opera-y on that part!

Thank you ladies for your concern. It will be a bit before we start getting calls from nurses scheduling this and that. The five day recovery for him should be interesting for me. I am not going to be driving to Vancouver WA to stay at sons, nor drive to sisters home in Gresham an hr away. I will be worried enough, so I will grab sleep here and there at the hospital. When he gets a room, then hopefully I can get a sleep chair.
Lenora, so sorry your MRI was scary and almost made you cry!!! (((((Hugs)))))) friend! It will be nice to have your Will home this weekend though!!!
Feb 1st have doctors appointment. Yearly female exam, and check up on how my meds are working for my overactive bladder that I take at night. It seems to have stopped the need to get up 5-6 times before midnight routine, but I still don't get into REM sleep until 1am ish. I have been sleeping until 9-10 am! Then when I do wake up I'm still so tired! Like I've been run over by a truck tired! I would like to get back to waking up at 7:30 or 8 am ready to face the world! We both go to bed at 9-10 pm so we haven't been staying up late.
Hugs ladies

All the songs are my favorite in The Sound of Music! Love watching the end of the movie, because Christopher Plummer confessed once that little Gretl, weighed a ton, so that is a doll he's got on his back!!!! Haha!

Welcome newbies. Jayne and Forina. Glad you are a part of this group. Jayne, there are a lot of TX girls on the thread. I live 45 miles SW of Ft Worth. Practically neighbors. Lol.
Heather - your big nite out is over by now so I hope it was as much fun as it looks like. My favorite song is the title song, The Sound of Music. I actually saw a stage play at a threatre in London many years ago. Loved it.
Michele- Medicare doesn’t cover Silver Sneakers but some supplements do. my friend’s supplement covered it last year but this year they are only covering half. Don’t know why the change. Our supplement doesn’t cover it but theY is a bargain because I like the classes. Was paying $10 a class for yoga now it is included. I hope to get up the nerve to do water aerobics but it is so cold outside I don’t want to catch cold going out to my car.
Need to get up and move.

Well...I did it, I cancelled my membership to the Y and got a membership at another gym. In a way, I feel like I lost my right arm. Probably because I've been a member of the Y for so many years. But I know deep inside that it was the right thing to do.
Afterwards, went to Big Lots to get some mints and then to WalMart to get a few things. Came home. Steve left. Went to Habitat for Humanity and got 2 more exercise DVD's (like I need them) But they were only $3 with 25% off. Now who can resist that? The good thing about buying exercise DVD's at HforH or the Salvation Army is that they are usually in really good condition. One of the ones I got still had the shrink wrap on it! Then went to Aldi to get the rest of the food for cooking this weekend. Just got back from taking two of the cats to the vet. We'll probably have to take the other two next week since they'll be due for their shots, too. Got dinner ready, now here for a bit
M - what happens to the cauliflower? Vince will eat a carrot, so I'm not worried about that. But if he can see cauliflower, he won't eat it. Does that break down, too? I'll give it a try. If you can see the cauliflower, I'll eat it. Next time I just won't put it in. I wonder if you can use almond milk instead of coconut milk?
fionawilliams - first of all, welcome! I have a Cardio Metabolic Interval DVD (this is for the rebounder if you have one), Stephanie Vitorino's Body Target, Ultimate Weight Training Cardio workout with Terry Simpson that I'd be willing to give you. I also have Kathy Smith's Lift Weights to Lose Weight DVD and for that one I'd only ask for the cost of the postage (if you are in the US it's usually a little less than $3) To be honest, I have A LOT of DVD's, I couldn't even begin to tell you which I like best. I periodically get rid of some to make room for new ones. Just PM me if you are interested. You'll soon find that I do all sorts of different DVD's.
Welcome anyone else that I missed
Terry VT - Silver Sneakers is an exercise program for mainly people who want their exercise to be low impact (I'm trying to be sensitive here -- oh heck, it's mainly for senior citizens). My understanding is that you can go to any gym that has the Silver Sneakers program and use it. I am thinking that you can probably use it for other classes, too. That would be for me.
Heather - you look so great!
Lenora - (((HUGS))))
SueBDew in TX - I usually really dry off, dry my hair (then curl it) so I'm not cold at all when I go outside after a water class.

Hello, I am new here and I'm looking for support to lose 10 pounds. I lose about 3 or 4 and then go right back up again. I see all the nice threads on this site. and I would love to be a part of it, so I can check in with any successes I have and also encourage others. As I get older it seems so much harder to be motivated. Thank you6

Regarding potatoes and sweet potatoes and your recommended servings of vegetables, I believe sweet potatoes count but white potatoes do not. Sweet potatoes, although starchy and higher in calories than say, broccoli, rank way up there in nutrition. Something else I read said that legumes only count as 1 serving, regardless of the amount you eat. That was interesting.3

The singalong was terrific! And utter bedlam. We had instructions on how to make noises, like booing the Nazis and hissing the Baroness añ a goody bag with things to wave, such as Edelweiss. Lots and lots of audience participation. Lots of nuns and a few goats. Someone brought curtains to wave, but we were all given a bit of curtain in our bags. Loved the singing. We had to let off a party popper when he finally did kiss her.
Will post a pic.

That is the warm up with all the nuns on stage singing.
That is some of our group. We went in early to sit down. It was a full house. My cancer friend is in the green sailor suit.
Much love H XXXXXX

No, cauliflower stays looking like cauliflower.
Sweet potato is the only one that seems to disappear to mush. I was a bit surprised by that the first time I made something in the slow cooker with it. And since then, if my sauce is a bit thin, I'll add a bit of sweet potato to thicken it.

Heather, the von Tapp family settled in Vermont in 1942. It became the Trapp Family Lodge. At the time of Maria’s death in 1987, 32 family members shared ownership in the lodge. Maria’s youngest child (who is now 74) Johannes von Trapp instigated a merger to eliminate the interests of the other family members in 1994. Family members were displeased with the terms and fought back with legal proceedings about the amount to be paid for their shares. It was resolved by the Vermont Supreme Court. The lodge is now managed by Sam von Trapp who is Jonannes von Trapp ‘s son. Maria and Georg are buried in the family cemetery behind the lodge.
I’ve been there and it is beautiful. It is less than an hours drive from me.

All right y’all. I know there are tons of people here with opinions, so I’m asking yours. I have been to two different tile places looking at tile. I have one more to visit on Monday. Both options that I am showing you match the countertop, but the taupe one with brown undertones brings out the darker flecks in the granite more. But the one little tile in the accent of the gray option matches the granite exactly. On the other hand, I’m in love with the accent tile that matches
the taupe. The hexagon will go on the floor, the subway on the shower wall and around the garden tub. The accent will go wherever accents go.....the thing I can’t decide is whether I want the hexagons and subway tiles to be the same color, in which case I have to go with the gray, or whether I like the taupe well enough to live with a white subway, which is in the picture but barely. The granite is in the middle. Ignore the shadows from the lights.
