OK, I have to tell you something that happened tonight that really bothered me. So much so that I seem to not be able to go to sleep. I keep thinking about it.
I'm starting to have a really weird problem with some of my "friends." It seems that the more people are noticing my weight loss, the more people I know are "claiming" that they have been the person to "get me to see the light" and lose the weight. It's happening a LOT, in many different areas. It seems that people are trying to "claim" me as their success story.
For example, I was talking to a few friends the other day, one I had not seen for months. She raved about how great I looked and asked what I was doing. I told her about MFP, and that recently I had upped the intensity of my workouts by joining a gym. My other friend chimed in with "yeah I'm the one that convinced her to join the gym." NO she wasn't! I was thrown off by that response. All I could say back was, "Really? Because I joined without consulting anyone." My delusional friend started denying my statement like she was six years old and I had just caught her taking my Leggos. It was all very surreal.
Another couple of friends and I were eating lunch one day and the topic turned to snacking. They were all discussing how many times a day they eat and what they eat for snacks. I joined in and said that I have been forcing myself to eat breakfast here lately and that it has been giving me more energy. One friend chimed in with, "And who gave you that idea to eat breakfast? Yes, me, thank you very much." NO it wasn't her! It was my PT and the trainer I had for a few sessions. I could not believe it! I told her exactly that - my PT discussed my eating patterns with me and HE recommended the plan I am eating right now. She retorted, "Well, I've been telling you for years to eat breakfast, long before you got that physical therapist." WTF???
So now tonight. My friend was having this Juice Plus party and asked me and another colleague to go. So we did. I didn't buy a thing, because JP is not my thing (I had a severe reaction to it years ago), plus I am totally broke. After the party we had planned to go out for drinks, eats, etc., which we did. But before we left for the bar, another woman who was at the party whom I did not know started talking to me. And, well, you know me, I can talk to a wall and it talks back. So anyhoo, she found out from my friend giving the party that I was losing weight and she was very curious as to how I was doing it. I told her about MFP, then glanced over to my colleague and said, "Sandy joined MFP, too, a few months ago when I told her about it." Well, Sandy went postal on me! She interrupted her conversation from across the room to tell us, "I told YOU about MFP and then YOU joined." I was like, wtf, what planet are you living on? But then something inside me sort of snapped. I had had just about enough of people jumping on my weight loss wagon. And I said, "Honey, I've been at MFP since October; you've been there since March. Do the math." Then Sandy said, "I knew about MFP years ago. I'm the one who told you about it." I replied, "You did tell me you thought there were some online food calculators, but you didn't know any web addresses. I'm the one who searched and found MFP, dear, and told YOU about it." Then she had the nerve to lie again and say, "Oh, I had joined MFP years ago when it was just starting out and I told YOU about the website." NO she didn't! I was pissed to no end. I told her I refused to argue about something so childish and changed the subject.
It got me to thinking. WHY do people want to take credit for my weight loss? Is it because they have nothing in their life that they're proud of? Do they have such low self esteem that they have to be seen as doing something great in everyone else's eyes? Are they that much of a control freak that they want to hog the spotlight? Are they jealous and can't negotiate their own unsuccessful attempts at losing weight so they have to take over mine? Do they see me as a person who would give them all the credit? Does it make them feel good to have others see them as my "savior"?
As you can tell, this is really bothering me, and I don't like it one bit. NO ONE gets credit for my weight loss but ME and GOD. I need to really think about this one and figure out why this is happening, what I can do about it, and why this is REALLY bothering me.
Thanks for listening, sisters! Maybe I'll get some sleep now that this is off my chest! :frown:
Blue: sorry to hear the you friends want to take credit for your weight loss. I would agree with Julie that maybe along the road your friends did mention things to you like joining the gym or a online weighloss website..however, you are the one who got on teh wagon..your freinds can chant all they want. It can go in one ear and come out the other, but you are the one who wanted to change your lifestyle to becoming healthy ( and they can't take that away from you!) and you are the one who dedicated time in the gym and on MFP and lost those 90+ pounds..and they can't credit for that.

I have a new lowest weight ever! And TOM is here (well -- it's doing it's "hey I'm kind of here for a few days before I really come and punch you in the uterus" thing it's started doing the last few times -- but that's when I'm the most bloated) AND I had a sodiumriffic dinner.

That's down about 4 pounds from Monday. It's like I started over and am having a big first week loss again which is probably mostly water and that's fine. I'm just glad to see the scale move. I feel like I'm going to see the scale keep moving for a while now.
I'm going to treat this myself like I just started this journey. I know a lot more now and I know better than to undereat like I did before. I'm only set to lose 1.5 pounds a week so I'm going to eat my base and around half of my exercise cals and see how that goes. I feel like for the last couple of months I've been too lax with myself -- eating foods I shouldn't be eating, having too many high calorie days without exercising, etc. So I'm going to continue my "work for it" plan, log EVERY bite, stay away from too many processed foods, etc. I think what I was doing was eating all my exercise calories and not taking into consideration bites of food I'd have here and there. It's pretty easy to eat away a 750 calorie deficit when you're not paying attention. Especially since I was basically eating whatever I wanted on the weekends without exercising. That was undoing any deficit I was creating during the week. So, now that I've really been paying attention the plateau mystery is solved. I know how to do this and I'm gonna.

I was doing the same thing and this week I REALLY focused on what I put in my mouth. I did ( in the past) do a lot of mindless eathing, while I read the paper, get on line, or watch tv..but this week I wrote down EVERY single bite... If I had a spoonful of peanut butter while making my son a peanut butter and jelly sandwich..I wrote it down. when I do things I don't think about eating this and that..I just do it. and when I go log my food, because I don't reamember eating it..I don't write it down. But this week I was aware of everything I was doing. I sat down and ate something, and not like before stand and eat..because I was too busy to sit down.
I weighted myself this morning and with tom almost done..I was one pould lower than my lowest weight, I think 3 weeks ago.
Heres to getting this done:drinker: We can do this!

Blue- I would take the sarcastic route that Meook mentioned, but thats just cause thats how I deal with things.:laugh: :laugh: Personally I would roll my eyes when my freinds made those comments and then say "yea, she lost my 93lbs for me" they'd get the point....I see why it bothers you but dont let it, that means they win!

excercise- I danced with my son and had a blast!!! lol I didnt log it but I was def out of breath towards the end.
proud- that I listened to my WONDERFUL and SUPPORTIVE MFP friends and did NOT buy beer. Instead I sucked it up and went to spin class this morning so I could drink some tonight :drinker: (thanks Julie!)
Today I did my spin class and burned 760 cals...yup..all going to beer...if I do this properly I will still be under cal today! HOLLA!!!0 -
Oh and even with the pit beef and fries for dinner my weight was 193.4 this morning...0.4 from yesterday but I think the fries had something to do with that!!!
If I can stay under 194 come monday I'll be super proud!!!!

Yeah, sick as a dog today. I guess those bar pretzels, home made chips and cheese, BBQ, french fries, 2 pints of ale, and ice cream weren't exactly eating clean. :sick: But man, how many trips to the "bathroom of what not" am I gonna make? :noway:0 -

So I put in some hard manual labor in the yard today and it was HOT. I was doing rock work....yuk. But in related and exciting news, the vegetable garden we put in in May/June is starting to reward us. I picked our first cucumber today and some cherry tomatoes and lettuces so a big salad tonight of our own organic growing...yummy. There may be a silly FB pic coming soon :bigsmile:

So I made fish tacos and the brownies (the right recipe) tonight for my parents. YUMMY!! Pretty good if I do say so myself! It's been an interesting day of sorts that's for sure. I realized last night that Mike and I just don't have that spark or chemistry. I feel awful. I ended things with him today and he is really really VERY upset. He's starting to get ugly about the situation. I can't help the way I feel and he doesn't understand that. What can ya do? I didn't get any exercise but I went up and down 3 flights of stairs about a dozen times. Wanna hear the crazy part? I wasn't dying! Felt great to be able to load up my car full of stuff to move myself and not want to pass out! Hope everybody is enjoying their Saturday! :drinker:0 -

Serena's party went good.. 2 kids from the street came (1 that rsvp'd and one did not), so total of 7 guests (including abby), she had a good time and got lots of loot...!! She had a great time..
Then hubby parents are staying tonight, and some friends of the family came over too..We just had some burgers and are chilling
Seren'as cupcakes are awesome!!! I had one at the party (hate to say that was my lunch ) i didn't feel like eating before the party...i am planning on to have one for desert...to my suprise they are like 158 they are freaking delicious even with 2 cupcakes I still have like 500 cals left for today (of course using my exercise calories) guess that getting up at 7 and hitting the gym to burn 400 was a good idea !!!0 -

Nancy - Sorry about your so called "friends". I understand why it was bugging you. I think what some of the girls said are some good ways to deal with it. But there is no excuse for them to jump on your weigh loss wagon. They are not the ones that actually did all the hard work!

He will realize that it was better to end it now before you two got further in the relationship and got hurt even worse.
So today I went to my nephew's birthday party and I did pretty well. I was hungry so I had 2 hot dogs (1 with bun and one without) so not as bad as it could have been. And then I had a very small piece of cake, I should have just skipped the cake because it wasn't really worth the calories. So today I was talking to my dad and step mom about c25k and telling them that I am going to start it next week and they really thought they might actually do it too! That would be so cool! They don't have iPhone's but they do have so phone that has apps and we found a c25k app and they are going to try it out. I am really excited to start this, hopefully I will still feel this way next week when I start it.
Oh I almost forgot. I weighed this morning and I am still at 264.5 so no weight loss for me. Hopefully since I went to the store and bought food that I will be better this week instead of eating out everyday. I do know that on Tuesday I am going with my sister to go look at wedding dresses!! I am excited but that also means that I need to get my but in gear so I can look good for her wedding next April. How awesome would that be if I had lost all of my weight by then!! At the rate I am going right now that isn't going to happen so I need to get it in gear. Okay sorry about going off roading there. :bigsmile:

I am thinking i am going upstairs and watch tv in my bed...drives me nuts when inlaws are here...I know she can't help it, but drive me nuts, i dnon't know how i could handle it all the time like my father in law.
My MIL was in a car accident about 4 years ago and had permant brain damage. She isn't all there...She is good most of the time but sometims she gets on a tangent or flustered she gets all upset, then FIL yells at her. Then she gets more upset and just won't sit down and chill.. I really do respect people who work with mentally ill people, ...I really do.0 -

raider - GREAT JOB on the cake intake! I wish I could say the same. I had a big piece of birthday cake tonight. Ugh. Birthdays are so fattening! Thank goodness they only come once a year! LOL OK who am I kidding I LOVED EVERY SINGLE BITE OF MY CAKE.
Well, I did not drink tonight, even though I was tempted, so that is a big thing. Whew. I woke up so sick this morning from all of the junk and beer - I just didn't want the same thing happening tomorrow morning. I ate three pieces of pizza and had a few scoops of artichoke dip. Not bad for me!

Got home from my mom's about an hour ago. I ate too much and drank too much but probably didn't do *so* bad (except with sodium -- suffice it to say my mom wouldn't even let my 86 year old gramma eat any of the snack foods she had made because they were loaded with sodium, lol). I had a good time even though a lot of my family wasn't able to come because they had to work today (this was our little wedding "reception" my mom insisted on having).
I tried some new beer which was AWESOME (Highland Black Mocha Stout -- OMG! I love supporting local breweries, especially when they make kickin' beer). It must have had an insanely high alcohol content (for beer) because I was tipsy after the first, drunk after the 2nd, and D-R-U-N-K after 1/2 of the 3rd. Then there was sparkling wine... and... oh dear. I had to pour 6oz of yummy stout down the drain. My mom was a happy lady because I let her take about 3 billion pictures. Every picture she has of me since I was like 5 years old is me either hiding or making a stupid face. I spend every birthday and holiday ducking and covering or with my tongue out and my finger up my nose. She hates it. :laugh:
I have no idea where I am on calories today -- probably around maintenance amounts. I expect my weight to be up tomorrow from all the sodium. I plan to go to the gym though. And then I plan to paint a room or 2 in my house which is something I've wanted to do for 3 years. :drinker:0 -

Yeah for the running shoes! I still haven't bought mine but I do have so shoes that I can wear until I find some time to go get them. Those days are good for me. I am thinking of maybe doing it either Thursday or Friday for Day 1 and then see how well I do with that and hopefully do day two on Saturday or Sunday. Somewhere along those lines.0 -
I am glad to hear that all of the parties that went on yesterday were a lot of fun!! I am off to another birthday party with hot dogs and cake again. Then home for italian chicken, this is what I have been wanting for a loooong time!!

The birthday weekend has been a blast! Over for sure in my calories yesterday, and will be over today as well. As Blue says, thank goodness birthdays only come once a year!
Yesterday was great fun and I did pretty well on calories....until I started drinking beer. WHOOPS! I was a good girl and exercised right when I got up, but it was only 28 min (280 cals), so it certainly didn't make up for all I ate and drank. I made a really tasty french onion dip using 0% Fage yogurt for the party with carrots and celery. There were some chips as well (you can't have french onion dip without chips!), but I managed to mostly eat the veggies. We had BBQ chicken, grilled veggies, pesto pasta salad for lunch. Then I got my suburban bakery cake. Icing = LOVE! But SO sugary!!
Last night I had 7 beers and a shot of whiskey. This was over like 10 hours, but it was definitely the most I've had to drink in a long time. The shot was the last thing of the night and I'm definitely feeling the effect today!
Went out to brunch and feeling very heavy from all the food. I think it's good when our bodies tell us that the bad stuff isn't good for us. Hopefully it will help me make better choices in the future! Tonight we're having asparagus, baked potatoes, and steak. Gotta love birthday dinners! I'm already close to my calorie limit for the day, so I know I'm going over. Don't have the energy to exercise today. Exercise is happening tomorrow, so I'll work really hard to erase the damage of this weekend!

Seems like not only are we log-in twins, but almost birthday twins! AND both hail from Lou! I am mirroring you with b-day celebrations. Man I got pretty sick from Friday night's ordeal. Saturday, much better. Both days very little exercise. But today I went to the gym and worked HARD for 75 minutes! Wooot! Not gonna be able to walk tomorrow! LOL But at least I will not feel guilty eating another piece of another birthday cake! This time my FAVE - coconut cake! Mmmmm!!! :laugh:
The scale was broken at the gym and I took that as a sign that I better get to moving this *kitten* this week before weigh-in!!! :drinker:
Going out for Thai food tonight. Oh my word I love Thai!!! Can't wait!!! Then I am forcing all of my musician friends to go bowling! LOL Musicians are notorious for NOT being in shape! We have no time, work late hours and eat crap from the gigs we are at!0 -
So I decided to go to the grocery store yesterday and get healthy stuff to eat this week. I have packed my meals for tomorrow so I am going to be on the right track! All healthy foods are ready for some eating this week. I am so proud of myself!!

Good job, raider, getting to the store and buying healthy. Two thumbs up! And as for the canned green beans, yeah, the sodium will get ya there. I rinse my canned veggies with water before cooking them. I was told to do this to help eliminate some of the sodium. Not sure how much it helps, but I always feel better!
I had a blast tonight celebrating my birthday (again LOL). Curried tofu with jasmine rice. Can't beat that! Oh yeah and two pieces of coconut cake! Now you really can't beat that! Especially since I PLANNED for them and saved my calories just for the cake! Oooh I am good!

Weighing in late for the week! I am at 273.8, which is only a 1.4 lb gain after eating whatever the heck I wanted at restaurants for dinner for 2 weeks, so I'm ok with that. My parents have finally gone home, and I can really get back into my routine. I had great intentions to log my food last week but I did breakfast and lunch a few days and then never logged dinner because it was too hard to figure out stuff for restaurant food.0

Started the week off right.
I went to the gym this morning and burned over 500 calories. And then I took a shower there. And I didn't die and it wasn't that bad and I'm going to do it again tomorrow.
I was nearly 15 minutes late for work though. I guess it just takes longer to shower and dress in a 2'x2' space. :ohwell:0 -

Looks like my 190 wont be happening this month...Im up to 194.4 this morning which isnt bad considering my choices on Saturday. That's only 1.4lbs over Friday so Im ok with that, I hope its gone quickly. But with vacation coming up this week as good as I plan on being its inevitable that I will show a gain when I come back since we are going to be eating out a lot. I was kind of in denial about it but eh...

My legs ARE sore, so if I go and find out that I cant then I can try again tomorrow or Wednesday morning. I doubt I will be able to do the last workout this week though :ohwell: Im sorry0

Howdy ladies !!
i wish it was more weekend today :sad: weird our alarm when off, then dh hit snooze then appearently our power flahsed cause i turned over to look at it and it was flashing like 12:05..and the cable was resetting.
No working out again today (two days in a row...oh no ) i think i hurt my arm so tyring to let it heal a little...going to lunch with friends from work(have to swtich on call stuff over), they didnt' care so i picked applebees , i know i can get a low cal thing there.
then appt w/ serena's counselor tonight...busy busy...GOt to get my house super clean, as i am having BUNCO at my house on wedensday, first time ever i have hosted...my kids destroy everyone and i know my house isn't probably as neat and clean as all theres (as most stay home), but going to try the hardest to get everything looking super nice), ...some days i really think i am too busy for work but i guess i got to go do it...0 -
