Hello everyone! I have been prepping for my three week challenge of keto diet since Monday. My DH has lost 10 pounds and I have lost 4.6 pounds. We know that 3 to 4 pounds of that is glycogen stores. The challenge starts this coming Monday. We have been slowly reducing the amount of carbs that we are down to 20 g per day.
Kettlebell Workout
Goblet squat-3X5X 40
Russian kettle bell swing-7X5X 40
I have decreased the number of my swings since going from a 35 pound kettle bell to a 40 pound kettle bell it was quite a big difference. I'm smart enough to know that it's better to go slow then injure myself.
Paying off the house versus mortgage I vote for paying off the house. We were going to pay ours off this year but have decided to sell it instead. Now that we are living in our RV which is paid for we decided that we no longer need the house. Our renters also decided to move out early and that gave us the idea that having renters would be a hassle. They are too undependable. Plus this way we are all really downsized, most of our money is cash or retirement accounts, we have no credit cards except for one that we pay off monthly and made a large amount on the yearly rebate almost $1000. This way if something happens to one of us our children will not have very much to do except for splitting up the cash.
Good luck everyone with your weight loss, maintenance, exercise goals.

Hello ladies: Crazy morning here, it pours rain and then we have a short sunbreak, then it pours rain again. We now have a small stream out back running into our pond that is not usually there. The horse paddock is a muddy mess and our efforts to get the water to run off keep being ruined by the horses walking through them. The puppy goes out and comes in with soaking wet paws.
We are currently paying a mortgage but we bought a place with our DD when I retired 3 yrs ago.
Well company arrived early so must go.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA6 -
Mary from Arizona, where abouts? I love the RV life too. No mortgage and debt free. Even putting some away for the first time in my life! I have family around Prescott. Heading for Nevada next week.

gpurvis63, very possible that are retaining water, did you have something that may have been salty? Don't forget salt/sodium can hide in surprising places!! I wouldn't stress too much over one day, you will probably find that it's gone in a day or two.
Allie, so glad you were able to enjoy your friends party!
Machka, still very much in my thoughts.
Lisa, yup, you're right, she's an adult, needs to make her own decisions in regards to her health. This is getting to be an exciting time for you, I can tell by the tone of your posts! So nice that your trailer stayed nice and dry inside.
Kelly, I wish there was something like lol or cheering on here also. "like" just doesn't seem enough sometimes, but it's not a "hug" thing either Oh well, just have to make do, I guess!
Busy day at work today, mind you, I'm making some of the busy part for myself! I hate just sitting around so I've been doing some cleaning around the facility today. The manager has been away for the past week, and I don't want her coming back and the place looking like we haven't done any cleaning! Well, I'm not sure that "we" have been cleaning, but I did a lot today, she should be okay with it. My other two co-workers this week are guys and they just don't seem to see the dirt. sigh.
I have been lax on logging so far this month. I'll get breakfast and sometimes lunch and then skip dinner altogether. Well, I've skipped logging it, I certainly don't skip eating it!! lol Trying to work on getting the food logged, I really do so much better when I'm keeping track of the calories. So, no formal exercise today, but according to my fitbit, I've already done my 10,000 steps and have walked for 102 min! And I still have a few hours of work left! I probably won't be doing too much more tho, need to get some office stuff done now too.
Hope everyone has a great day/night! Welcome to the newbies, hugs for those needing them, kudos to those celebrating!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island5 -
Janetr LOL! What a circus!
@gpurvis63 Salt & carbs are 2 causes of water retention. When people go on a keto diet, it's not unusual for them to lose 10 lbs in a week due to glycogen stores (carbs in the muscles & liver) being used up. It's almost all water weight that first week or two. Mary has alluded to this.
Carol You lost all your money with Edward Jones? Eeeek!!! Was this in 2001 or 2007-8 by any chance? Somebody from an investment firm came by to talk to us recently about rolling over 401Ks to IRAs and letting them manage it. I just dunno. I have worked so hard and been so frugal to be able to put some money away and now I'm reluctant to let someone else manage it. It feels scary especially when I am so close to retiring. But I don't know that I am doing such a great job myself...I just want to have enough for us to be able to retire comfortably.
I think it's a good idea to pay off the mortgage but I still have one for about 3 more years.

Hello from windy SW WA State!
Katla (and Becca) we got a 24 mph gust about half an hour ago, nothing to really write home about. Hope you are escaping the worst of it coming in from the Pacific.
Machka - you and your DH are on my mind constantly!
Terry - I can't remember, did you get that orthotic and did it help? Hope that itchy ringworm is going away and congrats on burning the mortgage! Good luck on that MRI.
This morning I went to the "Back in Control" website and reviewed what this back surgeon says about back pain and lots of chronic pain. He advises "expressive writing" twice a day -- hand-write any thoughts that come into your mind for 15 to 30 minutes then rip them up! According to Dr. Hanscom, lots of folks find relief from just doing this twice a day and doing mini meditations. Worth a try. Now that my back is feeling better I want to keep it that way.
Having a good day here - potted up 30+ little tomato plants into 4" pots, got in a really good healing nap after lunch - felt great when I got up, did my strength training - cut the weights back a little since I'd been away for ten days, found a piece of stiff cardboard to slide under the mattress topper which should help my back.
It's always exciting reading about Rita and Mary living in the RV's! King of the road! Mary - I wanted to say how happy I was for you getting that job! That's what you had been praying for, I know. Glad you are back in the kettlebells.
Warming up supper so better run. Have a great weekend ladies!

- Start walking everyday for 15 minutes.
Just that.

Lanette, yes I got the orthodic and it’s better than the over the counter one I was using. Ankle still hurts when I walk too much or twist my foot. Not sure when my MRI will be. Where I work has a benefit where if you have a test like an MRI and you schedule it with the most inexpensive place around, they give you a small check. I’m having the MRI changed to a smaller hospital a little further away. It’s so much cheaper that once I have the test, they will send me $100 for having it done cheaper.
Spent all morning spring cleaning my kitchen. It looks so nice and clean. Got rid of everything that was out of date in the refrigerator and gave it a good cleaning. I have so much space now.
Eating has been terrible and I’ve not been tracking. Why can’t I get back on track? Well tomorrow’s a new day.
Welcome newbies! Hugs for those that need one and happy dance for the losers.

Went to the Dentist yesterday and had root canal and prepped for 2 crowns. Hubby went during his leave and had a root canal and 1 crown. Overall even with top health cover we are out several thousand dollars - ouch ouch ouch.
Hope everyone has a great day

How are my pacific coast ladies surviving today? We've had lots of rain and some wind gusts, but no power outage here.
Felicia

We expected winds and rain today but got only an all day drizzle. This has been something of a rest day for me. I walked the dogs as usual this morning and several times in the afternoon for the usual today of about three hours of walking, but I stayed off the exercise bike except for about 30 minutes in the afternoon. The rest of the day was spent doing computer and paperwork. Jake was willing to go to the grocery store with me. He said he wanted to "go out for lunch" but that turned into getting a very nice sandwich and cole slaw from the grocery story deli and bring the food home to eat. After lunch we napped for two and a half hours. I guess I needed the sleep.
We live in an 1800 square foot manufactured home with a tiny yard in a park where we pay rent that covers water, septic, and maintenance of the roads and public areas. We own our house with no mortgage. There are trails, private roads, and a lot of grassy areas for walking the dogs, but we don't have to take care of any of it. When we moved here, I found out that the dogs liked walking on leash here much more than they liked being off leash at the dog park, so I stopped taking them there.
I took a day off from logging food. I do that about once a month.
No progress on building the fence because we can't make up our minds about where to put the gate and until we do that we can't order the materials and the builder can't start digging holes for the posts.

In bed all day today nursing a very painful foot. I suspect a sprain. Instep throbs even when not bearing any weight. DH struggled with making himself even simple meals, but he did take the cat for a nice long walk. Hope tomorrow I can be back up on my feet.

Barbie, you are our leader but you have never mentioned where you live. Or at least not that I can remember. Nope you can decide what kind of fence you want. Do they have any rules there about a fence?
Well we woke up to an inch of snow but by the afternoon it was all gone. So we have enjoyed a nice sun shiny day. Hasn't been very warm, 40s, but nice sunshine.
We have a regular sporting event here, called Guns and Hoses. It is police vs firemen in boxing. I really have an issue with it. To me boxing is one of the violent sports and with this sporting event, that is very popular with families, kids are watching cops boxing or in my eyes, beating some one up. The cops pretty much win every year and I just don't like seeing our kids watching this happen. But, it is just my opinion.
Do you all have Honor Flights in your areas? We are having another one in a few weeks. I think it would be a wonderful thing if my DAd were alive and did this.
Woke up with my hand nice and warm and it felt pretty good until I knew I had to take a shower. But now it's 10 PM and it doesn't hurt to much. So this is a good day for me.
I am watching the news and hear hat a Canadian hockey team crashed and several players died. I am so sorry for the team and family and Canada.
Trinity had a member of her swing choir commit suicide. Why do people feel there is no other way out. I have never experienced any kind of depression so I don't understand that part of it. I know there are other reasons teenagers commit suicide. I just don't understand and I don't k ow how to help my grand daughter.
Hugs to you all, Joyce, Indiana8 -
Did Karen Voit's overall and abs DVD. It's really yoga, I thought it would be more weights, but that's OK. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Stott Pilates Secret to Flat Abs DVD.
Wendy - Lady is such a lovely animal. I swear, to me, someone who abuses an animal deserves the exact same treatment.
Lisa - your adventure sounds amazing
KJ - thanks for the morning smile!
janetr - An earthquake!!! We had one here a while ago and I didn't even feel it. Vince did, but I didn't. What a horrible feeling you must have had
Lenora - Home Depot did say that if we mention it to them the next time we rent something from them (who knows what that'll be?) they'll take something off our bill. Oh well...no biggie. I just thought that they might give us the 4hr rate because of the problems we had that weren't our fault.
jrpwgr - i love your picture!

In the last few days, I've found out that my husband has fractured cheekbones and a fractured bone at the base of his skull. I also think his nose might be broken or something too. They knew about those fractures but opted not to tell me. Evidently they've been a minor concern so they weren't worrying about them before, but now they need to start doing something because he may start feeling pain.
Therefore they are planning a tracheotomy today, hopefully, to insert his breathing tube there. That will ease the pressure on his face and should help him start to wean off the ventilator.
His progress is very, very slow ... but yesterday he did have his eyes open most of the time I was there. Whether or not he can see/focus, who knows.
They've warned me that when he has this next surgery, he will take a big step back in the progress for a few days. But I hope the surgery goes well, and that he will start making some good progress over the next week. Hope.
And continued thank you to you all.

Lanette - thanks! I'm very excited to work for that school district! Probably one of the best in Arizona.
Machka- (((hugs))) and prayers for you and your husband
Mary from Arizona2 -
Machka, thanks for the update. I imagine your trust in the doctors and hospital is undermined when they withhold information from you that should definitely be given to you. Makes you wonder what else they haven't told you in order to "spare" you. You are the one who is representing your husband's voice while he is in a coma and nobody should shield you out of misguided sense. Information is power and some like to retain it for themselves. I think I would immediately ask to see my husband's medical records and keep a fully copy for yourself and for your husband when he wakes up fully and wants to know things. You are a competent adult woman who needs to know every frigging detail good or bad! Sorry, I feel indignent on your behalf, as though they were treating you like a child or condescending towards you. Anyway, still keeping you both in my prayers, Wendy5

I'm jumping in at Pg 21 knowing that I have missed so much.
Allie- I am still using some of Mom's cards. She was ready for any occasion.
Terry - I hope that the ring worm clears up quickly. The itching must be so annoying but those creams usually work well.
Rori - How did you hurt your foot? I missed that. I hope you are up and around very soon.
Joyce - 15 fatalities in the bus crash, there may be more as some are in very bad shape.
It is awful when someone commits suicide. I hope there is a counsellor available to help Trinity deal with this.
Machka - Thank you for sharing your update with us. Sending you prayers and hugs. Please take good care of yourself.
Last night and today have been very difficult as news about the boys continues to come out. Humboldt, Saskatchewan is reeling from the pain of this loss. The team consists of young men between the ages of 16 to 20. They come from across the prairies to play on these Junior hockey teams. They are often still in high school and are billeted with families who treat them as their own. The father of the Team captain tweeted out today that they were harvesting his organs and they would be given to 6 individuals. The outpouring of love for the players and their families has been amazing. So much money donated, so much blood collected. The coach was lost and the radio voice for the hockey team. Hockey is the heart of the prairies. I can not imagine the pain of those parents. One of my young friends dated the captain for quite a while, they broke up because they were young and the distance was too far. She is devastated. The driver of the semi has no injuries. There is no word as yet as to what exactly happened. We are all reeling here as quite a few of us have connections to Humboldt and Hockey.
On a positive note I went to Keira's first dance competition yesterday. She was in the smallest and youngest group. The average age of her group was 9. The groups they competed against were considerably larger and average age was 14. She was very glad to win a gold medal.

Oh, and we have a spring snow storm. The roads were finally almost clear and then it snowed and snowed and snowed. I haven't looked out the window to see if it is still snowing because I don't really want to know.

We will go out later for drinks and socialising

Rori how did you hurt your foot, inquiring minds want to know! Hope it heals quickly!
Machka sending and strength. Make sure to take breaks regularly to walk and clear your mind.
Terry today step away from the salty food, one choice at a time, you can do this!
Well my 2 looong festival days are behind me, the food served and the sedentary nature of the gig were not ideal but the smiles and effort of each music student I listened to was worthwhile. I also don't mind earning a little extra income (little but everybit helps). I pick up a few tips from seasoned teachers and we commiserate about certain things, it is a worthwhile experience, albeit an exhausting one. I usually finish with a pain in my neck and a headache but overall, I enjoy it and will judge at 2 more festivals at least this Spring.
Today I'm looking forward to a walk with my bf and a chance to catch up with DH.

Joyce , We live on the North Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. We can see the Olympic mountains wherever we go. Our home is in a 55+ manufactured home park with tall trees, trails, huge grassy fields to accommodate the septic system, and private roads driven on only by residents and people who come to the neighborhood. We own our home but not the land it sits on. Like many planned neighborhoods, there are rules about what you can put on your property and what color you can paint your house. We knew all this before we bought the house. The good thing is that no one else can paint their house a weird color, or build a strange fence, or leave a junker car in the front yard, or let their dogs run wild. Getting our fence approved was sort of a formality since it was vinyl (many fences here are vinyl), four feet high ( most fences here are four feet high) and along almost the same line as the old fence.
Machka, I send my warmest regards along with all the others as you and your husband trudge this painful and scary road.
Sharon, your granddaughter is beautiful.
Today, I'll walk the dogs as usual, then meet a friend for a walk in the middle of the morning. Otherwise I'll be doing housework and helping Jake figure out where we want the gate in the new fence.
Barbie from NW Washington3 -
Good Sunday morning from Sunny but COLD Ohio,
Machka Thank you for the update. I agree with Wendy. I am pissed on your behalf. I want all the information so that I am informed as to what we are looking at in terms of treatment and care. I join the others in sending prayers and warm thoughts your way.
Sharon- I know you are proud of Keira. This is my youngest GD's first year of competition dance. Her team has won platinum twice and gold once. The teams are scored based on number of years competing and type of dance. Complicated to me. Thankful that two have been streamed live, so I got to see them. I just can't get over the makeup the young ones wear. Couldn't think of streaming either, but knew televised wasnt the right word either.
NYKAREN The festival judging sounds like fun even if long.
Wow- It has been a long week! Folks out sick, finally back to full staff. Donovan (sil) is staying!!!!!! Yay!!!!! I am doing a happy dance. The electrician left his apprentice at our rental to install the lights-grumble....They are in such odd places. I am glad it isn't our house, but not happy! The upside is there are now lights. Spent the last 4 evenings over there doing odds and ends jobs. Started really cleaning the kitchen cabinets yesterday. Grands helped as well. Now I feel the need to really clean my home. I am so behind on my paperwork for home as well as work. Need a day to catch up, but felt the need to touch base.
I hadn't heard anything else out about my friend, so checked the obituaries. He passed away on Wednesday evening. I guess it is a blessing as he really was in so much pain. Funeral is Monday at 11. My Sister in law said she reckons I am going. I said yes. Don't know if DH will be going, but I am. I always looked forward to spring when he would come in and show me his new paintings and tell me about his trips. His smile and sense of humor will be missed.
Introduced the grands to Chris Farley last night. They wanted to see a funny movie, so we watched "Beverly Hills Ninja". They really enjoyed it. Last time I introduced them to Chuck Norris. Going to try to get some home stuffs done today-haha. Really need to finish laundry.
Time to go feed kids and DH. Have a blessed day! Prayers for healing and comfort to those in need. High fives to those with successes. Thank you to all for sharing and caring!
