My heart goes out to so many - Machka, always with you in spirit; Sharon, to your whole community--so many young lives gone, and to all of you who are dealing with pain in spirit or in body.
Heather - you've inspired me to get on with putting my sequel to She's Thinking Out Loud together, and am nearly finished with the initial compilation. 20 more articles to go through and I'm done. Tentatively titled "Still Thinking Out Loud." Still backing and filling on the autobiography... If it's not time, it's not time. I'll know when it is. I'll post the links to Still Thinking on Facebook when it's published, but a few weeks yet for editing.
Back up a half pound this morning, typical as you're nearing a milestone, I know. Annoying, nonetheless.
Back to my doings...
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC for four more days and a wakeup...6 -
Lisa - I keep meaning to tell you that it makes me smile every time I see and a wakeup. That is how we always told my nephew when Santa would get there.
Okie4 -
Machka - Thank you for the update. We are all still thinking of you both. I will continue to pray for all involved.
Okie3 -
Machka - Thank you so much for keeping us updated. Really appreciate it.
Sharon - Wonderful Keira! :flowerforyou: Congratulations.
My younger son rang me this morning. He had at last read my letter. He sounded a bit sad, but I told him not to be. I really am fine now. He said he has been aware of something for a while now. Then we talked a bit about going AF. He has got his 2 month award. He is currently working on developing AF drinks with a friend. Could be good! He has to taste some beers for work soon, so he is a bit apprehensive.
Glad to have got that sorted. Phew!
I spent some time this morning looking at websites and investigating Instagram, so that I can post some follow up pics for the book and work up some kind of feedback system. I really don't want to go down the whole social media circuit as I like to keep my life largely clear of that sort of thing (my Facebook is tiny), but something seems to be required these days. I don't do Twitter or anything. I might get a simple website set up.
Got to finish the book first!
Good luck, Lisa, with your next book!
My DDIL sent pics of Edie running her very first 2k junior Parkrun.
Can't wait to run with her. I'm sure she'll be way off in the distance!
Much love to all,
Heather UK xxxxxxx

Good morning!
I did not have a loss on the scale this week. That's always a bit frustrating when I know I've been eating right and exercising, but these weeks will happen, I know.
I have been getting into some Fitbit challenges lately. It's funny, I've had a Fitbit for several years but never before did any of the challenges. They've been fun and helping to keep me motivated to get my steps in every day. I like the extra push they provide.
Gotta get ready for church. We may be getting some more snow today. This is totally crazy weather for April, even in Illinois!
Have a good week, everyone!

gpurvi63: I let MFP set my calorie goals and the pace of losing. The calorie allowance was shifted downward as I lost weight. This resulted in a slow weight loss, but a steady one that kept me healthy along the way. Regarding water weight, some foods will cause me to retain water, as will excessive salt and alcohol. :flowerforyou:
Sue: We've had a bunch of rain, too. I'm sorry about your soggy paddock and unwanted pond. I hope things improve soon.
Lanette: So far things have been reasonable, although rainy. Our forecast shows a high wind warning today, but it isn't windy at the moment. It looks as though the rain is expected to stop between 8:30 and 10 am. We will see whether they're correct.
Rori: I hope you're feeling better soon.
(((Machka))) Sending prayers and good thoughts for you and your DH as they get ready for the next surgery.
Sharon: I'm so sorry about the tragic bus crash that has hurt or killed so many fine young people. In happier news, Your DGD is gorgeous! Congratulations on her gold medal.
Heather: I'm so glad that your younger son rang, and has read your letter. Yay!
Yesterday we went to Joy Creek Nursery and bought a new lemon thyme plant, then stopped on the way home to buy a new pot for Alberta Spruce, our Christmas tree. Her old pot is a red plastic bucket, and I wanted to put her in a ceramic pot for a bit more weight. Gusty winds have been able to tip her over all too often. I wonder whether this will do the trick. The new pot is more attractive, & we like the look and feel of it. DH is still sleeping and we've made no plans for the day.

Good Sunday Morning!
Machka ~ Thanks for keeping us informed of your husband's progress and know that we are all there in spirit with you both.
Heather ~ Love the pics of your young runner. My 6 yr old GD loves running and will compete at a nearby school soon. I haven't seen her practice but I have seen her run. She is a tiny little thing with arms and legs like twigs and I know she will run like the wind. Thinking about your son having to taste beers....we who are alcoholics have a difficult time stopping at just a taste. Glad he is open to your life story.
Sharon ~ Keira is lovely and I know you are so proud of her. Just read about the tragic bus accident and prayers for all who were involved.
Kylia ~ Glad your sick workers are getting better. Having fun with your grands is a joy!
Keytone Karen ~ Yes, I think we lost our money during the time you mentioned. We had invested in stock with a company that was sold to Whole Foods. When it was sold, we lost out. I know my brother had a lot of money invested during that time and was devastated. I hope he has recouped it back since then.
I have a tooth that is troubling me and wish I still had dental insurance. It is so expensive!

Sitting here with my foot on a cool pack googling "magic instant cure for plantars fasciitis", anybody got one? Friday felt pain on bottom of left foot at edge between heel and arch. Worse standing, stepping, sharp all the way to hip. Sitting or lying eases to burning throb. Self medicated with ice, hot tub, aspirin. Abbreviated stroll with Tumble around yard a little painful. Otherwise it eased by end of day, slept well. Saturday morning did recommended stretches in bed, eased out to upright OWWWWWW! More ice/hot tub, ibuprofen. No Tumble stroll, no Dog group, no practice line dances, pfui. Again eased by end of day and slept well. Woke up to no pain. Did stretches, eased slooowwwly upbright, BAM! Owwie owwie OWWIE. So please dear friends send me the silver bullet, I want to shoot this foot OFF!
Haven't read since Page 12 but will probably catch up today as I don't see myself driving to church, walking up to communion or doing ANYTHING productive.

Mary how are winters there? Are there any state parks in the area?
Washed the car and half the RV yesterday. Shoulders and neck sore today. Prepping for move next week. DH has been stressed. His anxiety levels go up with any change at all. I get bored without change.

Barbara, the only thing that helps mine is a) weight loss, and b) writing the alphabet with my toes, legs hanging off the bed, every single morning of my life. Also strengthened my ankles to the point where I no longer sprain them walking across the carpet, so bonus!

Carol - Thank you for the compliment of my HS picture.
Machka - I guess I missed the part of 'how' your Dh got his injuries, other than knowing he had been put into a durg related coma. I'd be asking for his medical records or sitting down with the MD treating him and asking pointed questions. If you don't get a 'believeable' answer I'd go talk to the CEO of the hospital and voice your concerned. Of course, if your husband did not give them permission to tell anybody he was there; or wasn't able to 'where did they get the information why he was there'? I would have thought they would have needed the information from you, his wife. But, now hospitals and MDs are 'hiding' behind H.I.P.P.A. When I was put into the hospital back in November, they would not let Louis leave my Cpap with them, so I actually went about 2 or more weeks without on, then they gave me one that the mask was too big; and, I kept getting up and not able to go back to sleep at 12 Midnight and 3:00am. I kept complaining about it and finally, about 3 days before I got out, they sent up a respiratory therapy, and the first thing to come out of his mouth was, "I can see what the problem is, the mask is 'way' too big, I can fix that." He changed it out and I was able to sleep most of the night, He was telling me that I should have been having one because, not only can it affect your heart, I could have had a stroke. I did tell my MD about it and other things, because I felt like he needed to know.
I don't know about paying off a house, if there is any tax ramifications; but, if you 'sell' it you only have a certain period of time before there are some, if you do not invest the proceeds from the sale into another one. You might want to ask your tax person, or if you do your own, then someone who knows that answer - a CPA.
I wish we had the money to pay off our house; but, that isn't a possibility for either of us unless the other dies; and, I am not planning on going anywhere and hope that DH feels the same. Then I guess each of us will decide what to do.
Today I am on a 'liquid' diet - it isn't feeling me up. I did have a fried egg this morning and a protein bar with my 'almost' black coffe with just a little sugar in it.
I've made the bed and loaded the dishwashe and need to pick up a few things so that Louis won't have to do it later.
Take care!
Lenora

Barbara ouch! I know that kind of foot pain. I roll my feet on frozen bottles of water. Also make sure to stretch out your calves quite a bit. I can only wear shoes with orthodics, I never go barefoot, even in the house! I had to go to P.T. for 2 weeks to heal my plantar fascitis, but it included a foot massage so it was worth it! I have been pain free, no flare ups for 2 years. Good luck with it, it truly hurts.

Heather, so glad both boys are now aware, must be such a load off of your mind! The beer tasting could be tricky.... does he HAVE to taste it? Can he not trust someone else's opinion? Does he at least have the option of spitting it out rather than swallowing? I know that might not be the total answer, but might be better than actually drinking it. Will be thinking about him....
Machka, thanks so much for taking the time to update us. I have to agree with Wendy and Kylia (I think?), the doctors shouldn't be "protecting" you from knowing what's happening. I'm sure the trach will be more comfortable, I understand the intubation is quite uncomfortable, and I think it's usually only done when people are in a coma, whether it's medically induced or otherwise.
Terrible, terrible accident yesterday in Saskatchewan, so tragic. Many thoughts going out to families and friends.
The headline in this morning's paper said 15 dead, several injured, some critically, so I guess that means the death toll could rise. Still not sure what happened, pictures showed one heck of a mess tho.
Sure makes any issues that I'm having right now seem pretty trivial!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island, where it kind of feels like spring might be coming...3 -
Mary how are winters there? Are there any state parks in the area?
RV Rita in New Mexico
There are several state, regional and RV parks near us. The winter weather was beautiful here. Occasionally we had to wear jackets. We've been here since September and have been in the pool or outside hiking or playing games on a regular basis.

Borrowing pages from Rebecca's and Rye's books, shifting focus from what I can't to what I CAN do. Meditated and exercised knees. Resting foot by scanning posts backwards from most current ;}.
Machka ((hugs)) do you think he can hear you? What do you do when you run out of things to say? Joe used to read the newspaper aloud to my Mama. Turning down company to give yourself space for meltdowns sounds healthy to me.
Rebecca and Rye are you ok? Haven't seen any recent posts... or did I miss them somewhere in the past 16 pages?
Beth healing prayers for your OS and peaceful strength for you.
jrpwgr thanks for the evolutionary insight about SAD/SPASM.
Betsy love the plant and earthy smell of spring.
Rita I remember seeing kangaroo rats bounding across the moonlit desert through the window of our pullman sleeper when I was a child. Loved traveling by train back then, saw so much!
pip holding good thoughts for Kirby on the 12th.
Meg jeez can you never get a break? Hard as it may be, the solution makes sense. ((hugs))
Midwest Trish were you PatCeOH?
Okie .2 from goal, you've got this girlfriend!
Janetr that is one heckuva spring morning wakeup ;{
KJ Kermit clapping and wish it were an option. Your spring roll insides dish sounds delish, how did you make your Thai peanut sauce?
Katla, love the Lucille Ball quote. Heather's "book as having importance for many other people out there." Totally agree. She'll never know what healing it will start for people she'll never meet. Glad your DH is eating and feeling better, a good reminder for me.
Sue in WA raining here again today. No paddock but puppy with wet paws runs in to help me meditate which I do lying down with legs up the wall. Oh well, laughter is as healthful as mindfulness, right?
Evelyn "guys...don't seem to see the dirt" You are soooo right!
Mary in AZ happy dance for your dream job..
Wendy in the Lady pic it looks as though she's leaning into you just like a Rottweiler. Is she? Cuts on her face, from the fall into the trailer? "trust is ... undermined when they withhold information" well said! :noway: Misguided kind intent at best. Hope Machka will channel you when she reminds them she is her DH's voice and asks for those records. Belated Happy Birthday!
Sharon Grief and joy, life is such mix, more a blizzard (do you have DQ in AB?) than a smoothie. Cannot fathom the loss and pain the families and friends are suffering. How good of the captain's father to give life to others out from his tragedy. Then, in the same day, joyous, beautiful Keira as a Phoenix feather. What a puzzlement this life is. Wishing you happy wakeup days.
Heather Breathed a sigh of relief about your letter, your DDIL, your sons et al. Very well done. GD looks a gazelle like Grandma. Swift and beautiful. 2 months AF is great, trust the beer tasting won't count against him. Hoping he can reframe it to being one of those distateful but necessary things we do for work.
Katla "...for Aberta Spruce our Christmas Tree" LOL. Personally I'd find her too prickly to decorate
Carol you are sure right about dental care being expensive. DDS wants to patch up gum receding from front tooth but surgery is not only $$$$ but recovery is long and painful. For now babying it along by gentle flossing and alternating coconut oil swish with aloe vera leaf gel. Hope your tooth pain eases or DDS finds it's something minor. I am so very sorry for your financial loss. It makes me so very angry that financial institutions employees and stockholders can profit while clients lose everything, it's just not right. IMHO they and their boards should loose compensation in direct proportion with their clients' losses.
Lisa "When he said, 'We may just keep moving for the next ten years or so,' I didn't hit him or anything." So VERY proud of you! Loved both the yo-yo and the sausage metaphors:)"strengthened my ankles to the point where I no longer sprain them walking across the carpet" Thought I was the only one who did this. Thanks!
Karen in VA, When I asked CPA about paying off mortgage from IRA thought he'd have hysterics, due to the extreme tax implications. He advised taking a small IRA distribution monthly to cover the mortgage payment over 10 years, it keeps our tax bracket low. As for investments, I've heard the most reliable is a minimal cost index fund like Charles Schwab or Vanguard. We went with Thrivent Financial due my Lutheran history , half in a guaranteed income annuity and half in a managed portfolio. They also provide our Medicare Part B supplemental insurance. BTW I have never been so sick, so bound up, so cramped as the day I tried BEANO. Go figure
Lanette Hooray for the chiro! It would be a struggle for me to tear up any writing in which I'd invested 15-30 minutes. Hope it gives you relief!
Jolantak "just that", yes, that's where I need to re-start.
Terry great advice to Allie about calling senior services for help. Con VERY grats on the mortgage and Dr. happy about weight loss. Inspiring Spring cleaning... anything to avoid logging So sorry you were hurt that your DD wanted to meet her biomom. That's why I waited until Papa and Mama passed, before finding mine. Not sure it was the right thing to do, tho'... think Mama might have been gratified that while my biomom is a lovely kind gentle woman, my personality is more like Mama's.
Allie Is the financial advisor one you pay, or one who earns commission by selling you products? Have you considered a CPA? With the divorce and your father's estate your tax situation sounds complicated. On a lighter note, I loved the original Trading Spaces, looking forward to watching it on the DVR. Oh and please do follow up with senior services about health insurance, low cost legal, tax and financial advice.
Lenora to Allie "Get some advice from someone OTHER than TomCat." Amen sister!
Trisha root canal AND 2 crown preps in one sitting? Both painful and spendy
Felicia so glad you and your son found the comic to "leaven" your gluten-free life. Paying to have the guitar sent was a most loving and supportive thing to do. As to the wind, yesterday was breezy but no tree-uprooting gusts. Cable box blipped once but otherwise power stayed on. Cancelled dog group.
Barbie learning different dances to the same music, good for the brain but not my fave. Here the people dance to a harder version of Boot Scootin' Boogie, an easier version of Honey I'm Good. I still sometimes seque into the one I used to dance, throws everyone around me off Your living situation really appeals to me, but alas it would be too neighbor-oriented for Joe.
Rori how did you injure your foot? The image of your husband walking the cat made me smile.
Joyce rejoicing to hear you had a good hand day. Hug, love and listen to Trinity, that's likely what she needs most, to talk it out. No way you can "fix" such a tragedy. I believe people commit suicide because it is the only way they can think of to stop their pain.
Michelle "someone who abuses an animal deserves the exact same treatment." Amen, sister. I beleieve that karmically they must come back as that same animal but with full knowledge that it is themselves who did it.
Kylia sorry for the loss of your friend. Sounds like he brought a lot to life.
NYKaren Will try some calf stretches, they tend to be tight due to the dancing. Thanks!
Whew. Past time to make lunch and pay some attention to Joe. He's been VERY understanding about the foot as he had a bout of PF a few years ago. Barbie agree that my husband is near the top of my morning gratitude, right after "waking up to this life" and just before "this body" and "these dogs."

Rori Hope your sprained foot is better soon.
Joyce So sorry for Trinity. Suicide is so devastating. Have had 2 close family members commit suicide and it just wastes you. For a long time.
Machka! (((Hugs)))
Sharon Keira is adorable. I am so sorry about the bus crash. Devastating.
NYKAREN Yay! You made it through the judging! Lucky kids to have someone like you doing the judging.
Heather Sounds as if your younger son dealt with the news of your childhood trauma admirably. What a relief to get that behind you! I am in awe of the way you handled the whole thing. Edie looks like she is a natural. She will love running with her grandma!
Katla Would you post a pic of Alberta Spruce in her new digs?
Carol in Georgia I wonder if it was Wild Oats stock.
Barbara Souther Oregon My plantar fasciitis used to reduce me to tears. After lots of trial and error, including seeing a podiatrist, wearing orthotics, wearing expensive shoes, having heel injections, etc., my plantar fasciitis was cured by:
1) wearing Crocs. Initially I wore them whenever I was on my feet, even in the shower (careful, can be slippery) and as bedroom slippers.
2) religiously stretching calves and hamstrings daily, but not the plantar surface of my feet (that just re-injured my feet).
3) wearing an L-shaped splint at night for several weeks.
It took awhile, but I have not had foot pain for years, whether my weight was ideal or not. I still wear Crocs most of the time. When my feet twinge, I know it's time to replace them.
Oooh! you & Beano - a no go! LOL!
Trisha Your dad was so handsome!
Love you all,

Hello Ladies!
What a week we've had with back and foot problems.
Allie - I've taped toes together many times. I think that's what the doc does after a $100 office call and $200 X-ray. What's a little swelling and black and blue, right? DH has wrapped thick socks around the legs of our bed -- too many little toes caught one bare wood while zipping through the bedroom.
Karen in VA - tell me about your crocs - are you talking about the kind where the front part is full of holes and there's that strap that goes around the heel? I need something to wear around the house. Other than shoes all the time, see below.
Wendy - Lady is simply gorgeous!
Heather - glad younger DS got the news and took it well. I think coffee roasters taste and spit. Not sure what beer tasters do. Having been away from the brew for a while his "taster" might be off so perhaps having someone with more recent experience might work? That's what I'd tell them anyhow.
Karen in NY - thank you for reminding me I'm supposed to be wearing shoes in the house ALL THE TIME with those insoles the doc had me get. My foot was actually doing pretty well until the chiro decided to massage my feet and pop my toes, lol. I think the metatarsalgia has been worse since then. Drat. Foot doc also recommended calf stretches and I need to get back at'em.
Lisa - the move is coming soon!! Wishing you a safe trip. Was thrilled DSIL made it home and there was a wonderful reunion.
Rori - back and feet giving you pain? What is this a phase of the moon or something? Hope you are feeling MUCH better!! It's rotten when we can't hobble to the kitchen and fish out a Stauffer's frozen lasagna for our guys. That was me last week and DH nuked plenty of hot dogs. I know I need to start thinking about what to do if my DH's health gets much worse and he cannot drive or let the dogs out and I need to be away from the house for several days or I'm incapacitated. He's not the type to want to "bother" anyone. Is the caretaker you found for him available to "pop in" and make sure he gets a meal at times like this?
Barbara AGMOD - well, Plantar Fasciitis is one thing I haven't gotten yet. Sounds like doing the calf stretches will help lots of foot problems. I like the idea of rolling a bottle of frozen ice around. By the way, it's easy to rip up what I've written for 15 minutes. So scrawly that I can't even read it and it runs the gamut from gratitude to murder plots, lol. I rip it up and feel cleansed!
Lenora - I think Karen in VA is right about not having to reinvest home sales. I know a person used to have to "buy up" or face paying capital gains. Nice that if we own a home and want to downsize so have some extra $$ we can put that toward health or other costs and not have to pay taxes on it.
So my back still hurts, but not as bad. I have discovered I cannot sit on a chair/sofa/recliner where my tailbone goes lower than my knees. Sets me up for something painful back there! Not that I didn't need a new recliner but it was so comfy to sleep in, sigh. So will hit the furniture store and see what they have for me to sit in AND maybe finally buy 2 twin mattresses for our king size bed. Our current mattress isn't doing anyone's back any favors.
And did I mention we are putting new floors on the back burner? I've been on the floor so much doing stretches... even with a big area rug over the wall to wall it's still pretty hard down there. Plus cannot walk barefoot more than 2 steps even if I wanted to due to Ms. Achey foot.
I've been experimenting with different.... ahem... strength "medicines" based on cannabis! Got several different things from the green store and think I've been able to make a nice low-carb muffin with a high level of anti-inflammatory and a low-level of "woo woo". As luck would have it I've been watching a webinar about that exact thing - plenty of interviews with an MD in California who told all about it. Seems most of the CBD (anti-inflammatory) part needs at least a teensy bit of THC "woo woo" to help it all work.
So that's what I've been up to.
Becca - haven't heard from you for a couple days and hope all is going as planned!
Machka - did your DH fall from a ladder or a tree perhaps? His head area really took a beating it seems. I recall when my DH fell from the shop roof, he had not only a broken back but a horrible bloody leg laceration, dislocated fingers, and huge goose egg on his head... which didn't seem to bother him at all. Thick Italian skull. I agree with the other ladies to get copies of his medical records. I'm guessing your DH is at the best hospital in the area? In our region he likely would have been airlifted to Seattle's Harborview which is a Level I trauma center for our state. I'm guessing his hospitalization is based on facility availability and medical insurance? I'm not sure how all that works in Oz.
Sharon and Evie - sad day for Canada, that's for sure. My heart is heavy for the families of those young men.
Barbie - your development sounds lovely - I envision lots of green spaces (I think you mentioned that).
OK better close. Would love to respond to you all individually but instead I'm one of those who click on "Hug"
Have a wonderful week everyone!!
Lanette

Snowing again!!! I’m going on to bed.
Terry in VT where I don’t think spring is ever coming7 -
Did Stott Pilates Secret to Flat Abs DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do some hula hoop, hold my plank, then take the extremepump class.
M – thanks so much for the update. (((HUGS))) I agree, I’m upset for you, too
Sharon – when my son played hockey, there was something about that sport that I liked. Now, you have to understand, I REALLY don’t like violence of any type. But what impressed me was how respectful the team was. I remember that they had to be somewhat dressed (not in jeans with holes in it) when they went into the locker rooms (they probably even had to wear a tie). The players may have been hard when playing on one another, but they really pulled thru for someone if there was a problem. The comradery to me was something you don’t see in other sports. I was so sad to hear about this crash. You have a lovely granddaughter
Need to run to Aldi. I totally forgot to get apples for tomorrow night (we’re really busy all day Monday so I won’t have a chance to go earlier). This is the only store that I know of that carries this type of apple. Hope they have some!
Carol – regarding dental health – we’re in the same situation as you are. When Vince worked, we had great coverage. I remember all the 3 kids got braces and insurance paid 80% of it (for each kid). Now that he’s retired, we don’t have any. Sometimes it can get really expensive.

Plantar fasciitis ... I've had it off and on over the years. Bed rest when I was pregnant (so a while back ) took care of it for awhile. But after a bad bout a few years ago a friend suggested Crocs ... and they did the trick. It was summer at the time so I ought a sandal style ... but it's the footbed that makes the difference ... not the style. Our podiatrist sells very specialized Crocs in his office, but I bought mine at a sporting goods store.
Mortgage ... We still have a mortgage as we've refinanced several times over the years, but plan to have it paid off before we enter retirement. I don't want any significant debt when in retirement. Which is finally starting to look like a reality. DH had human resources send his retirement numbers ... looking at the next 1-3 years. We're excited to see that at this time the numbers are more generous than we had thought!
Machka ... continuing prayers ...

I have been on a 'clear, liquid diet' all day; and, at 5:00pm started that 'awful' colonoscopy prep. I wonder if it would taste any better with a beer chaser; or if it would only make me hate beer more than I do as it is. OMG, that is awful; still have to drink 4 16-ounce cups of water after drinking 2 16-ounce cups of the prep. Well, about to start my 2nd bottle. UGH! BARF, BARF, BRAF. The ought to be able to look up my torn up @$$ and down my throat with the endoscopy and see lights at both ends. Mmmm, do I wait and let my last meal be the rest of the peach Jell-O? Think that will give me a little better taste in my mouth.
