They just don't tell you how many things there are to deal with when stuff like this happens. How many decisions you've got to make, forms you've got to fill out, people you need to meet with.
Machka in Oz
Machka ... having read your posts over the last few months, I can't think of anyone more suited to "dealing with this stuff." Not that it makes it easier ... I understand that ... I just think your husband is extremely blessed to have someone as efficient as you are on his side! Continuing prayers for you both.

Just been for my run round the lanes. I think every tractor and trailer in the area was out. I had to stop several times to let them pass. The last time I stepped to the side only to go into mud up to my ankle!!!!
I needed that run because this morning I was trying to put my book onto Createspace. I am NOT tech savvy, nor a publisher and I panic when confronted by anything that requires attention to detail. Grrrrrrrrrr! However I made some progress and I know what I have to do next. The website is very helpful, but I am extremely ignorant. Most of it is gobbledegook to me. I should have the inside of the book ready tomorrow, then to have a go at the cover.

went to Estate attorney this morning, my DB and I , basically only asset my dad has is his home, and if we want to keep it have to pay off reverse mortgage if not we clean it out and sell it, the reverse mortgage company gets there cut and the rest of the creditors get theres and we get squat... this is why we need to get affairs in order ahead of time as to not leave it to our children.6
-
Allie - Empty the house, get the stuff out of it; that way you at least get something and NOT straddled with paying off 2nd mortgage (reverse mortgage is simply that); let them sell it. If there is no money to pay other creditors, that still won't be you and your brother's responsibility - those were your Dad's debts. He made bad choices, y'all did not sign up for any of it; if your children don't want whatever you get out of the house, sell it. Walk away basically debt-free. Hope by opening up a bank account as an equity or estate account; won't make it where 2nd lien people can get their hands on anything else that might have been a part of his estate (such as money in the bank, any investments, and the like). Again, you need to check with an attorney familiar with your states laws concerning your Dad's choices and what, if any, reflect back on you. Even 'if' your brother wants to 'flip the house' the 2nd mortgage would have to be paid off before he could sell it. I'm sorry; 'flipping a house' is a BIG gamble, unless he is able to do all the work himself. Being an older home (I would think) the electrical and basement are huge money pits.
I just could not go back and read 8 pages of posts - have to redo colonoscopy; prep did not work. Going to ask MD about a certain prep which was taken by a friend of a friend; and she is going to get it for when she has hers in May.

Heather: Thanks for the suggestion about photos. I'll try it. :flowerforyou: Regarding fizzy water, the East Coasties talk about soda, but most of us out west call it pop or soft drinks.
Wendy: You are definitely right about gate opening being a test of patience & communication. Yesterday I could not get Arrow to open the gate with his right side to the gate, but he would do it willingly when I approached the gate on his left side. The hinge is on the right, so I wondered if he objected to having so much of the gate against his body, or if he is "left brained." Is that a nutty idea?
Lisa: I hope you enjoy your work trip and that the move goes just as planned.
Karen in VA: Thank you so much for the Haiku!!! I'm copying it and saving it!
Allie: Lenora is usually very savvy about legal matters. I hope you'll consider what se has to say. Ask your own lawyer for advice on how to avoid being saddled with your dad's debts. :flowerforyou:
Lenora: Sorry about your colonoscopy redo. The prep was one of the worst experiences I can remember, mainly because of the distance from my house to the medical facility. When DH had his we got a hotel room near the medical facility & he did his prep there. No long commute with the horrible urge to go. It was worth the price of the hotel room. I hope this isn't too much info.
I attended a city meeting last night and felt like it went well, but it was a long meeting and I got home very late. Resting up seems like a good plan for the day.

Kelly ... I understand what you mean about getting too comfortable can be a problem. If I go around in comfy clothes I gain weight. I just do. But if I wear my jeans with stiff zippers and waist bands ... I'm reminded when I've eaten too much.
Terry ... I am right where you are right now. Only I've gained back 40 pounds ... and I'm as mad as can be at myself. All that hard work and I just let it slide back on. But I refuse to give up. Each morning I start again. Interestingly, in that year review thing with MFP ... my most logged food was coffee. Why? I only drink one cup a day. Because each morning I start with MFP ... sometimes don't get past breakfast in my logging, but I do retry every day. Hugs to you!
Becca ... love the photos of your new place! Enjoy!
Rye ... sorry you're dealing with life stuff ... hugs.

The price of moving is I look a little beaten up!
But I took a long shower, coconuted myself from head to ankles, tonight I'm looking at feet), and sat at my vanity to dry my hair. I'm wild woman, but feeling better!
Getting used to life, eating well, taking my vitamins!
Hugs to each and every one of you!!

A whole lot of lawyer's stuff arrived by email. I let DH open the 9 docs and peruse them. Nothing scary, just the usual purchase stuff. At least that means our vendors are serious. We have asked the lawyers to send hard copies. Not going to print out loads of bumpff. One is 50 pages long! One step nearer.
Allie - I agree with the others. If there is no money in it for you WALK AWAY! Let the mortgage company and the creditors fight it out between them. You are not responsible for your father's mess. Don’t touch it.
Tomorrow I hope to get the text of my book finalised. Hope I sleep tonight. Maybe the cover too.

Did a DVD on the bosu today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Michelle Dozios' Pure Strength DVD
Cindy - put your feet up, pour yourself a glass of unsweet tea, and jump right in. What is CAKE, tell more about it. Never heard of it
katla - lately I've noticed fewer and fewer people posting on Facebook. hmmm...wonder why???? Arrow has come so far with you, you should be proud.
Heather - You hear so much about restricting calories and what restaurants, etc are doing to help you (offering healthy choices) but I believe more healthy choices would be chosen if the price of the item were dependent on the calories in the item. So you could buy a salad for much less than a Big Mac. It's not that you can't buy a Big Mac, but people who are watching their budget are more likely to choose the lower cost item. But that's only my opinion
okie - I didn't realize how much you lost in the year you've been here. Way to go girl! Good for you getting that fruit and yogurt finished. Do you get your yogurt in the small containers (I think they're about 5oz) or the larger ones (I think they're about 32oz). I usually get the ones in the smaller containers since they are sealed and they can go past the expiration date.

Michelle - I buy the small single serve ones. If I am getting the plain for baked potatoes or stroganoff, I will try to meal plan around using it up and get a big one of that. I like to vary my flavor every day for breakfast. I have been obsessed with the toasted marshmallow that was a limited edition and I have been having one every day as a dip for my apples as dessert . I'm very sad that the run has come to an end and I won't be able to get any more. I have enough to last me about 3 more weeks.

Allie ~ When I let go of co-ownership of my mom's estate, it was like a rock had been lifted off me. I think others have given you good advice.
Becca ~ Love your house. It looks good inside and out. Sorry about all the bruises. And, it sounds like you got a wonderful deal on your rental.
Lenora ~ So sorry you have to redo the colonoscopy. I have never had one but did do the initial test you can not do at home and send into the lab.
I've read off and on all day and took no notes. So, good wishes and good health to all!

Hi Gals,
Janetr – Olivia is super cute – watch out when she is 16!
Machka – I am not surprised at the priority of things and “little things” like broken bones which seem big in most of our lives are so small in this situation. Glad you are seeing progress and that you have managed to get some walking in, thinking of you! Sending good thoughts to both of you.
Okie – Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Becca/Rebecca – so happy for you
Terry – breathe!!! You can do this, just one meal at a time.
Sharon you are being a good roll model for Harmony, both in appropriate snacks and in not being a push over.
Allie – yes no one to take care of you, but also no one to tell you that you should be doing ______
Pip – my Guess is Kirby, but no I don’t remember chic-o-sticks
Busy but not crazy week, I am starting to look at things I might want to see while I am in Boston in May for my god-daughter’s college graduation. I’ll only be there 4 days and one of them is Graduation, so it will be a quick visit. I’ve not been there before, and love the history, my favorite characters in history were Amelia Earhart and Paul Revere, so am hoping to see Paul Revere’s home.
She and I have also talked about what she wants for graduation – a quilted wall hanging so I’ll be working on that as well.
I’m going down to have lunch with my nephew at the end of the week, and will be explaining things he will need to understand with his dad’s terminal cancer. DNR, power of attorney, health care power of attorney, what is cremation…. The list goes on. I’m also bringing forms if maybe his dad would fill one out. I recently found out that my mom’s description of cremation is a human BBQ – that will not be what my nephew hears!!!!
Smiles

Hi friends. I’d say spring has sprung but we are getting snow over the weekend. Today is a very frustrating work day. The room situation here is intolerable. We have rooms booked for classes, and somehow other people book “over” you. So you look like an idiot. Monday at noon, there were a dozen pizza boxes from over the weekend in my class, and half of them were still full of old, cold pizza. Yesterday I had to go to three different rooms for class, and that happened again today. It’s getting very frustrating! On the good news side DH is doing well, and we had a newcomer at S-anon last night who really needed to be there. So that was awesome.
Rye: sending you hugs for the bad stuff life brings
Allie: glad you are feeling better!
OK I’ll bite…what’s a chick-o-stick?
Rebecca: awesome pictures of deer!! What clutter? All I saw was a gorgeous kitchen!
Ccindy: welcome!
Katla: I’m missing something…can you explain what you were talking about with the photo and using your horse? Those colonoscopy preps are bad!
Wendy: retiring??? OMG you don’t look anywhere near old enough for that! But if you’re excited, I’m excited!
Heather: I love cruising too!
Okie: I do a good job of planning my dinners, but I realize now I need to plan breakfast and lunch too…then don’t turn the alarm off so I can get up in time to actually put them together!
Allie: why would the bank get pissy with you, or was it someone else?
Karen: love the haiku
Well I am going to head home after this very frustrating day and take a nice, long, hot shower! Take care everyone! Meg from Omaha where it might be spring one day.

All done. My dear husband needed to put the car in the garage so he's been a bit of a ornery guy today. He had 4 or so heavy boxes, and instead of being SMART and taking books out, he was carrying heavy boxes IN. And complaining that I wasn't helping. So in a git of (inner rage), I carried 4 boxes in! My dear husband has the patience of a gnat sometimes! So now, the house is done, every rubber band, and tack put away, pictures hung. I will walk around and do a video of some sort.
Resting now, and putting my feet up. Oh earlier, saw a squirrel and there are big gray ones here, the size of a cat!!
Oh and I have a robin the is mental, keeps flying into a back window!!! What do I do?
Rebecca5 -
Kim - Thanks! I'm pretty excited to have made it to maintenance!
Meg - Yes, I plan everything, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. It is all pre logged and I know just where I am at and where I have room to add. On weekends I have convinced the hub we only need to eat out once a day, almost always lunch. That way, I know what I'm having for dinner and I know how much I can afford for lunch calorie wise. My breakfast, lunch and snacks tend to be the same every day so that is easy. I shift weekday lunch to weekend dinner, so it is also easy. For my salads, I go ahead and cut up all my veggies and my meat so all I have to do is dump it together into a bowl and eat it. The veggies I don't worry about weighing every time, I spot check myself occasionally, but they are so low cal in the amounts I use I don't worry with weighing every time. The meat is pre-bagged by serving after I cut it up so I just grab one and I'm good to go. It helps keep me on track. If I don't do that, I'll use time as an excuse to eat something else.

Becca it's probably an agressive male bird...they don't percieve the window as a barrier. I've read that using a plastic model of a predator, say a plastic hawk, owl, etc. and stake it nearby the window to act as a warning. Occasionally move the model....I've also heard of putting netting over the window to darken it a bit.
Good luck and enjoy your new wonderful home. NYKAREN4 -

You are such wise women and full of such good advice. I appreciate all of you.
Almost in tears at work today. For weeks now all I’ve done is screw up. The more I try to be careful the more I screw up. I think most of it is me being too hard on myself. Years ago I went through something like this so I know it will straighten itself out. Too much on my mind. Ankle, DH heart, retirement, DD...I’ve given myself permission to stop tracking and focus on eating better. Given up weighing myself and will check in with that the end of the month. Right now DH’s heart is ok and he will wear the monitor for a month so going to let that go, ankle is what it is and I won’t know about surgery until the MRI so going to let that go for now as well.
I do suffer from depression and sometimes even with the medicine I’ll have a week or two like this so just need to ride it out.
Well I’ll stop moaning as I’m sure you all get what’s going on with me right now.
Terry in VT wishing for spring to arrive.
