Rye - you have been on my mind. Hope you are doing well and are back with us soon. I am missing your kitty report among other things.
Becca -- LOVE those pictures! What a cute house! And those deer! Have you picked out a spot to do some sunbathing yet? . Glad you are getting unpacked and settled in, probably good for your DH to get into a schedule and situated. Is your son still off ship or have they sent him off again?
Barbie - that looks like our house with my DH on the recliner and the 2 dogs stretched out on his legs. No room for the cat, lol.
I was just thinking of what a year it has been so far for many of us with the moves! Lisa, Becca, Heather. Moves and home improvement projects. On to new adventures and they say only the kids have those opportunities. NO way!
And I also had some thoughts about what this group is about after our recent weight discussion. My Fitness Pal.
What is fitness and how is that measured? Twenty five years ago, I really was tied to the scale. If I weighed 145 and wore a size 10-12, at 5' 9", I thought I was fit. If I looked good in my outfit on the rare times I went to the gym, I thought I was fit. Even though my blood pressure was 145/95 on a good day. Hey, I "looked" as fit as anyone my age, maybe fitter.
Push the clock ahead to now...I have much different fitness goals and they are internal. Fit means strong. Fit means good blood pressure and blood sugar. Fit means sleeping well and feeling good. Fit means thinking clearly and making better decisions about what I eat and how I exercise and spend my time.
And I thank you in this group for helping me think so much differently about fitness than I did even a couple years ago when I didn't think I "looked fit" anymore, lol.
It's a wonderful new chapter.
On that note I better wrap it up. Hope to be more wordy tomorrow, lol. Hugs all around!
Have a good evening!

Heather: Thanks again for the tutorial on photos. I hope I remember how to do it tomorrow. And the next day, and . . .

I agree completely. It is a wonderful new chapter. This group of women has been such a blessing to me. Each and every one of you adds value to my everyday life.

Happy International Louie Louie Day!
"International Louie Louie Day celebrates 'Louie Louie,' one of the most recorded songs in rock and roll history. It takes place on the birthday of Richard Berry, the writer of the song, who was born on the date in 1935."
Barbie - I love bulbs. Someone here planted bulbs way back when, and it's always a nice surprise to see what comes up. Yesterday evening I dug up a bunch of over-crowded bulbs in the front bed and set them out to dry for replanting in the fall.
Becca - Your library is to die for! Not sure I'd ever leave that room!
Ccindy2018 - Welcome to the group! I'm looking forward to getting to know you!
Heather - I've been greedily eyeing the Baltic tours in the river cruise brochures. That would be a dream trip for me.
Machka - I'm glad your husband has you to advocate on his behalf! Hope you are able to take time to care for yourself as well.
Allie - Ever since I filed with the probate court, I've been inundated with phone calls and junk mail from realtors wanting to know if Dad had property to sell. The only real estate he owned since his move to the independent living community was the river house, which we're planning to keep. Philip's parents have a reverse mortgage, and I'm a little worried about what that could mean for us down the road.
If "Louie Louie" is too ridiculous for you, today is also Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day. Mmmmmm, cheese...
I quit wearing the Misfit tracker last week. The battery died, and I was getting tired of always having it on so I decided not to replace it. The Misfit didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. For today's workout, I think I'm going to take advantage of beautiful weather and go for a walk with Luna. She had to go to the vet today for her annual exam and shots, so maybe I can make it up to her.
Love to all -

Terry in VT: do you have a professional to talk to? It is making a huge difference to me right now to have someone to let off steam and help me to not be hard on myself. I understand where you are and am sending virtual hugs your way.

Another wonderful day of dog walking, dancing, riding the exercise bike and watching TV and knitting, and getting caught up on computer tasks. Rain and wind interfered with ideas of working in the yard.

Terry, I think there is a lot you can do to alleviate symptoms of depression through natural means. I know that when my hormones get out of whack I can become instantly depressed. I believe there is a big connection between seratonin levels and dietary choices and herbal supplements. I have been taking Saint John's Wort whenever I need a boost but I have noticed a definite increase in my mood ever since I changed my diet after listening to How Not To Die. I haven't had to use St. John's Wort once in the past month.
So basically, what I have changed is: I have cut out all milk, cheese, butter, yoghurt dairy products and have replaced them with rice milk, Angel cheese(a fabulous soy-brand), olive oil margarine and banana icecream (home-made in the blender with no dairy). And I have cut out all meat, eggs and fish and replaced them with lentil curry, bean chili and turmeric rice, beetroot or kumera burgers, soy hotdogs (these are everyone's favourite!) veggie pizza or pasta and broccoli chinese stirfry and felafel spinach wraps.
I also have a daily blueberry/banana smoothy with rice or almond milk and add maca, turmeric powder, ground linseed/flaxseed. I take evening primrose oil, and ginseng capsules as well. Anyway, all my bouts of depression have disappeared so I will carry on with this way of eating as I think it is the best way to nourish my cells and protect them from cancer and disease. Such a great book! Wendy
Oh, and I've been drinking green tea with cinnamon and nutmeg to spice it up.4 -
Well the big surprise party for hubby’s birthday was a huge success. He didn’t have a clue until we arrived at the ranch and relatives started to arrive. The food was wonderful and the band did a fantastic job. Only issue was the weather which we had no control over. We had 58 guests and everyone said they had a great time. I am finally able to sleep again as there are no worries going through my mind.
Rebecca- love your new home and can relate to the get it done feeling. Love the camalia picture. Also impressed you’ve already lined the drawers. Lol
Lisa- safe travels and best wishes for your move.
Plantar facisiatis. What works is to sleep in a boot that keeps your foot in a flexed position. It takes a few weeks but you must do it every night and do the stretches everyday. Any time you are sitting with your feet off and he ground, flex your foot. Medical supply stores have the boots.
Been on computer way too long.

Katla I believe this is the first picture I've ever seen of your grandchildren. They are so cute and definitely share sibling resemblance. I was shocked to see the "baby", however did he get so big? I still picture him as an infant. Oh my how time gets away from us. Thank you so much for sharing. I loved the picture. Also enjoyed to see Arrow, its just fun to compare what I see in my mind's eye to the real thing.

Yvonne: Happy Louie Louie Day back atcha!
Wendy: You seem to be thriving on your dietary choices. Good for you.
Janetr: Thank you so much for your kind words. This is the first time I've ever posted pictures of them. :flowerforyou:
DH has been put of the FODMAP diet by his doctor and is doing so much better! I am thrilled to be able to support him in this new direction. I'm mostly eating the same things that I serve him, although I do still eat regular bread because I don't have problems with gluten. This diet has been amazing for his health so far and I'm hoping for more improvement as time goes along. We've eliminated garlic powder and onion powder from our cooking, and have added granulated lime as a replacement. I love it, and think it is amazing seasoning for meats and veggies. I hope we'll be able to find it again when this jar gets low.

Okay, trying to post photo of my grandson. I think it's going to work! This was taken a few months ago, he has had his hair cut since then, it was so soft and lovely and I miss it, but it was in his face all the time, so it had to go.
Weigh in was this morning, I'm up a pound.
Terry, I feel for you, I can't seem to control my eating either. I will do well when I'm at work, where I have no choice because I don't bring junk, but then I get home and can't seem to stop eating.
Rebecca, the new digs look amazing! I could live in that library! And the kitchen! All those cupboards and drawers! Color me green with envy! lol
Katla, lovely to see a photo of Arrow. So glad he is cooperating with you, sincerely hope he continues to do so!
The grandkids are very cute, nice to see a photo of them also!
Once again, too many to comment on individually. Congrats to those celebrating, hugs for those who are needing them and welcome to the newbies!

Allie I hope you are in Slumberland by now.
Trish I looked those Vionic slippers up. The ones you are wearing are the Gemma Mule style. Very nice! I am thinking of ordering a pair. I wear my Crocs because I can't find good slippers. I would rather have nice slippers, and now I can try Vionics! I also looked at the Oofos clogs Lanette mentioned and may try them as well. Thanks, Ladies!
Kim I will be looking forward to a picture of that quilted wall hanging! xo

Okie Prelogging is such a great idea. I do well when I prelog. I need to get back into doing that.
Terry Nah. Moan away. We are great listeners. I like your idea of just focusing on eating well. One of my major pitfalls is choosing poorer quality foods when I am off track. I have analyzed this tendency and have come to the conclusion that I don't believe I deserve to eat high quality food when I am off track. I find that fixing the healthy foods that I really really love will ease me out of my downward spiral and help me get back on track. For example, I might fix grilled salmon with dill, asparagus with hollandaise, and roasted cauliflower. I love all of those foods. And I might fix softboiled eggs in the Instant Pot and eat them with some butter. Love those. It helps me avoid crap food when I am in down in the dumps. I do usually eat crap food for awhile before it occurs to me that I am worthy of eating great food, whether I am tracking or not. And I moan and groan the whole time I am going to the store and preparing the food, because it is such a waste of time, money, and good food for a wretch like me, LOL!!! xoxoxo
Lanette Insightful comments. I will be rethinking what fitness means to me.
Katla! Beautiful grandchildren! If you hover over the landscape icon instead of the file icon, your photo will appear in its entirety on your post if you want that option. Thank you for posting that adorable photo!
Yvonne LOL!! Happy Louie Louie Day right back atcha! I vote for celebrating Louie Louie Day by eating a grilled cheese sandwich.
Evelyn What a sweet moppet!
Machka You and your husband are in my heart and on my mind every day.
Becca OK, you are amazing. You pulled that move off without a hitch, in record time. Are you superhuman? I agree with NYKAREN that the bird is most likely an aggressive male attacking his own reflection and that predator decals may solve the problem. We have a tacky plastic owl we use to scare squirrels away from our soffit under one of the eaves, and use to have predator decals on one of our sliding glass door panels that was being attacked.

Can I join? I'm 67, very overweight but not totally unfit. Went on my first 'diet' at 16 and have done every diet imaginable since. I decided a while ago to ignore dieting and get fitter; this was a HUGE decision as I was very unfit. I now go to the gym 2 days per week (cardio warm up for 20 mins the about 60 mins of strength training), yoga class 1 day a week and 1 more session at home, walk around 3 miles 2 days per week. I was thinking of doing C25K starting Sunday next so my 'running' will be very low mileage and very slow but hey it's an extra fit thing
My goals for the rest of April:
keep up my gym and yoga sessions - no excuses
do C25k twice a week (I know it should be 3 times but I can't fit it in without killing myself - yet!)
finish clearing my veg patch and setting up for this season's growing
clear out 2 cupboards which are full of 'stuff'10 -
Morning, all,
Terry in VT - good advice from all, gentle hugs from me. Depression, like weight loss, is individual in every human being, in my opinion, so knowing your triggers and finding what works for you is the key.
Machka -I agree with Karen, you are still in our hearts and on our minds. We don't grow weary with time, we incredibly strong women of 50+. We're still standing by your side, a comforting hand on your shoulder, holding you up when you're weary.
Heather - if there's anything I can do or advice I can give on CreateSpace, let me know--I've done six books on there now, two of mine and four collections for my writer's group, so I've navigated most of their not-necessarily-user-friendly little landmines that they place in your path.
Lovely pics of the grands, and the fur-babies, for all who posted them. Always enjoy those...
On the moving thing, now it's all logistics. Corey will be piss-anting the smaller bits and bobs down to pack the camper shell on the back of the pickup as well as my SUV this morning, while I'm working, and I'll break off and help with the larger things, if needed. All this, of course, will be with the "help" of the three-year-old granddaughter.
Bless him, I may bring her up here and have her play in our room so he doesn't trip over her on the stairs. There's little left for her to get into, and it won't be too distracting to have her with me, as I have no meetings scheduled. Somehow, we both need to find time to take showers, and for me, at least, to get a couple loads of laundry done. No washer and dryer in the new house, and won't be until Monday or Tuesday if not longer, so need to make sure everything's washed, including our comforter.
Rebecca - I envy you your bruises, dear heart, as it means you're done... our journey is not yet begun, with long miles to go.
I'll write along the way, but probably be disconnected once we arrive, at least until we can get the Internet lit up at the new place. Although I may well gear up my phone as a hotspot, if I start feeling too disconnected.
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC, with just a wake-up to go, finally!6 -
Trying to send a couple pics just doesn’t work.So funny the slippers showed up.
All pics are in Ipad Photo, not on a phone. Admitting I can never relax where
this stuff is concerned.
KATLA thanks for sharing sweet photo of your Grkids.
EVIE Your Grson is a sweetie. Our Great Grson had long curls till his Grdad
said he would cut it. Just teasing, but he got first haircut that wk.
TERRY Sorry depression is causing problems & hope you are feeling better.
Try putting yourself first in line, not always easy to do,but it does help.Lots of hugs!
KAREN arch support shoes advise wearing them an hr or so
till your feet adjust.I wore the slippers all day right from the first day.
They are over 2 yrs old & still good.Worth the $.
Having to return 2 pairs of shoes bought on line. Must try them
on before buying.
Clothes are fine to order, but for me,shoes are a whole nother story.
New carpet will be here next Friday. They move furniture, but armeroire weighs a ton,so we’ll
remove everything from that. DH says “ it’s not mine”. LOL........but he’s a great helper.
Yesterday,he got shoes packed & ready to return to 2 diff places, then replaced the ink on my printer.
All done while I was running errands. He’s a keeper for sure.

Kelly Good Morning!
Karen in Virginia5 -
I am sitting in my room with a cup of tea and the computer, I watch the local news but turn it off when the national news comes on, to much crap for me to listen too..
got a quote on doing part of the patio.. so it will be most all be pavers .. because of what I have for patio furniture will probably go with it, it is about 100 sq feet and the guy is charging 1400 for labor materials everything included... will be well worth it in the long run..he is in Florida but will be back next week so he will come over and actually look at it and see what he needs to do... my girlfriend had her steps and walkway done , did a spectacular job..
not going down to feed DFIL today , just not feeling up to it.. and will take Alfie out for a walk before I go anywhere
then this afternoon will come home and relax ,take a nap and clean.. hopefully in that order...5 -
well, no riding today, taking kirby to the gym for a short exercise then to go get his MRI. he got some pills to take bout 1/2hr to 45min b4 so he could relax by the time they put him in the machine, then I'll drive him home and drive to work. wish us luck10

Getting back on track today! (OK I had to write that a couple of times getting rid of the passive language ... like "hoping" to get back on track, "trying," etc...)

Katla - Lovely photo of the grands. Thanks for posting.
Lisa - Happy moving day! Can't wait for ours. At least our chain is complete now. Crossing fingers it doesn't break.
I am still wrestling with Createspace. This morning it just shut down on me altogether. I'm going to try again this afternoon. I need to do some biking first because my thigh muscles have seized up through tension. I get leg ache like other people get headaches!
Going to dye my roots if I have a moment.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
roundbutsound, I started on MFP at age 62 and with the help of these women and logging food and exercise, I lost the weight I wanted to lose and have kept the weight off. Come back every day and join in conversation.
slept a bit late, gonna meditate for 10 minutes and then take the dogs to meet our friend and walk for awhile before dance class.

Good morning ladies (and it is a good one for me today),
Feeling a little better today. Thanks for all the virtual hugs. My mind seems to be in a better place today. Partly because I have no more "bad" food in my house now. So didn't over eat last night because there wasn't anything tempting. Hoping to get the date for the MRI today.
Love hearing all the moving stories and pictures. I am looking forward to moving when I retire. Still looking at Delaware. We were going to visit again this summer but will have to see how my foot is first.
Welcome to the newbies.
Better get to work. You guys rock! Terry in VT10
