WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR APRIL 2018

In the last few days, I've found out that my husband has fractured cheekbones and a fractured bone at the base of his skull. I also think his nose might be broken or something too. They knew about those fractures but opted not to tell me. Evidently they've been a minor concern so they weren't worrying about them before, but now they need to start doing something because he may start feeling pain.
Therefore they are planning a tracheotomy today, hopefully, to insert his breathing tube there. That will ease the pressure on his face and should help him start to wean off the ventilator.
His progress is very, very slow ... but yesterday he did have his eyes open most of the time I was there. Whether or not he can see/focus, who knows.
They've warned me that when he has this next surgery, he will take a big step back in the progress for a few days. But I hope the surgery goes well, and that he will start making some good progress over the next week. Hope.
And continued thank you to you all.

Mary from Arizona, where abouts? I love the RV life too. No mortgage and debt free. Even putting some away for the first time in my life! I have family around Prescott. Heading for Nevada next week.
RV Rita in Columbus New Mexico
We're in Goodyear Arizona. Have fun in Nevada!
Lanette - thanks! I'm very excited to work for that school district! Probably one of the best in Arizona.
Machka- (((hugs))) and prayers for you and your husband
Mary from Arizona2 -
Machka, thanks for the update. I imagine your trust in the doctors and hospital is undermined when they withhold information from you that should definitely be given to you. Makes you wonder what else they haven't told you in order to "spare" you. You are the one who is representing your husband's voice while he is in a coma and nobody should shield you out of misguided sense. Information is power and some like to retain it for themselves. I think I would immediately ask to see my husband's medical records and keep a fully copy for yourself and for your husband when he wakes up fully and wants to know things. You are a competent adult woman who needs to know every frigging detail good or bad! Sorry, I feel indignent on your behalf, as though they were treating you like a child or condescending towards you. Anyway, still keeping you both in my prayers, Wendy5

I'm jumping in at Pg 21 knowing that I have missed so much.
Allie- I am still using some of Mom's cards. She was ready for any occasion.
Terry - I hope that the ring worm clears up quickly. The itching must be so annoying but those creams usually work well.
Rori - How did you hurt your foot? I missed that. I hope you are up and around very soon.
Joyce - 15 fatalities in the bus crash, there may be more as some are in very bad shape.
It is awful when someone commits suicide. I hope there is a counsellor available to help Trinity deal with this.
Machka - Thank you for sharing your update with us. Sending you prayers and hugs. Please take good care of yourself.
Last night and today have been very difficult as news about the boys continues to come out. Humboldt, Saskatchewan is reeling from the pain of this loss. The team consists of young men between the ages of 16 to 20. They come from across the prairies to play on these Junior hockey teams. They are often still in high school and are billeted with families who treat them as their own. The father of the Team captain tweeted out today that they were harvesting his organs and they would be given to 6 individuals. The outpouring of love for the players and their families has been amazing. So much money donated, so much blood collected. The coach was lost and the radio voice for the hockey team. Hockey is the heart of the prairies. I can not imagine the pain of those parents. One of my young friends dated the captain for quite a while, they broke up because they were young and the distance was too far. She is devastated. The driver of the semi has no injuries. There is no word as yet as to what exactly happened. We are all reeling here as quite a few of us have connections to Humboldt and Hockey.
On a positive note I went to Keira's first dance competition yesterday. She was in the smallest and youngest group. The average age of her group was 9. The groups they competed against were considerably larger and average age was 14. She was very glad to win a gold medal.

Oh, and we have a spring snow storm. The roads were finally almost clear and then it snowed and snowed and snowed. I haven't looked out the window to see if it is still snowing because I don't really want to know.

Rori how did you hurt your foot, inquiring minds want to know! Hope it heals quickly!
Machka sending and strength. Make sure to take breaks regularly to walk and clear your mind.
Terry today step away from the salty food, one choice at a time, you can do this!
Well my 2 looong festival days are behind me, the food served and the sedentary nature of the gig were not ideal but the smiles and effort of each music student I listened to was worthwhile. I also don't mind earning a little extra income (little but everybit helps). I pick up a few tips from seasoned teachers and we commiserate about certain things, it is a worthwhile experience, albeit an exhausting one. I usually finish with a pain in my neck and a headache but overall, I enjoy it and will judge at 2 more festivals at least this Spring.
Today I'm looking forward to a walk with my bf and a chance to catch up with DH.

Joyce , We live on the North Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. We can see the Olympic mountains wherever we go. Our home is in a 55+ manufactured home park with tall trees, trails, huge grassy fields to accommodate the septic system, and private roads driven on only by residents and people who come to the neighborhood. We own our home but not the land it sits on. Like many planned neighborhoods, there are rules about what you can put on your property and what color you can paint your house. We knew all this before we bought the house. The good thing is that no one else can paint their house a weird color, or build a strange fence, or leave a junker car in the front yard, or let their dogs run wild. Getting our fence approved was sort of a formality since it was vinyl (many fences here are vinyl), four feet high ( most fences here are four feet high) and along almost the same line as the old fence.
Machka, I send my warmest regards along with all the others as you and your husband trudge this painful and scary road.
Sharon, your granddaughter is beautiful.
Today, I'll walk the dogs as usual, then meet a friend for a walk in the middle of the morning. Otherwise I'll be doing housework and helping Jake figure out where we want the gate in the new fence.

Good Sunday morning from Sunny but COLD Ohio,
Machka Thank you for the update. I agree with Wendy. I am pissed on your behalf. I want all the information so that I am informed as to what we are looking at in terms of treatment and care. I join the others in sending prayers and warm thoughts your way.
Sharon- I know you are proud of Keira. This is my youngest GD's first year of competition dance. Her team has won platinum twice and gold once. The teams are scored based on number of years competing and type of dance. Complicated to me. Thankful that two have been streamed live, so I got to see them. I just can't get over the makeup the young ones wear. Couldn't think of streaming either, but knew televised wasnt the right word either.
NYKAREN The festival judging sounds like fun even if long.
Wow- It has been a long week! Folks out sick, finally back to full staff. Donovan (sil) is staying!!!!!! Yay!!!!! I am doing a happy dance. The electrician left his apprentice at our rental to install the lights-grumble....They are in such odd places. I am glad it isn't our house, but not happy! The upside is there are now lights. Spent the last 4 evenings over there doing odds and ends jobs. Started really cleaning the kitchen cabinets yesterday. Grands helped as well. Now I feel the need to really clean my home. I am so behind on my paperwork for home as well as work. Need a day to catch up, but felt the need to touch base.
I hadn't heard anything else out about my friend, so checked the obituaries. He passed away on Wednesday evening. I guess it is a blessing as he really was in so much pain. Funeral is Monday at 11. My Sister in law said she reckons I am going. I said yes. Don't know if DH will be going, but I am. I always looked forward to spring when he would come in and show me his new paintings and tell me about his trips. His smile and sense of humor will be missed.
Introduced the grands to Chris Farley last night. They wanted to see a funny movie, so we watched "Beverly Hills Ninja". They really enjoyed it. Last time I introduced them to Chuck Norris. Going to try to get some home stuffs done today-haha. Really need to finish laundry.
Time to go feed kids and DH. Have a blessed day! Prayers for healing and comfort to those in need. High fives to those with successes. Thank you to all for sharing and caring!

My heart goes out to so many - Machka, always with you in spirit; Sharon, to your whole community--so many young lives gone, and to all of you who are dealing with pain in spirit or in body.
Heather - you've inspired me to get on with putting my sequel to She's Thinking Out Loud together, and am nearly finished with the initial compilation. 20 more articles to go through and I'm done. Tentatively titled "Still Thinking Out Loud." Still backing and filling on the autobiography... If it's not time, it's not time. I'll know when it is. I'll post the links to Still Thinking on Facebook when it's published, but a few weeks yet for editing.
Back up a half pound this morning, typical as you're nearing a milestone, I know. Annoying, nonetheless.
Back to my doings...
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC for four more days and a wakeup...6 -
Lisa - I keep meaning to tell you that it makes me smile every time I see and a wakeup. That is how we always told my nephew when Santa would get there.
Okie4 -
Machka - Thank you for the update. We are all still thinking of you both. I will continue to pray for all involved.
Okie3 -
Machka - Thank you so much for keeping us updated. Really appreciate it.
Sharon - Wonderful Keira! :flowerforyou: Congratulations.
My younger son rang me this morning. He had at last read my letter. He sounded a bit sad, but I told him not to be. I really am fine now. He said he has been aware of something for a while now. Then we talked a bit about going AF. He has got his 2 month award. He is currently working on developing AF drinks with a friend. Could be good! He has to taste some beers for work soon, so he is a bit apprehensive.
Glad to have got that sorted. Phew!
I spent some time this morning looking at websites and investigating Instagram, so that I can post some follow up pics for the book and work up some kind of feedback system. I really don't want to go down the whole social media circuit as I like to keep my life largely clear of that sort of thing (my Facebook is tiny), but something seems to be required these days. I don't do Twitter or anything. I might get a simple website set up.
Got to finish the book first!
Good luck, Lisa, with your next book!
My DDIL sent pics of Edie running her very first 2k junior Parkrun.
Can't wait to run with her. I'm sure she'll be way off in the distance!
Much love to all,
Heather UK xxxxxxx

Good morning!
I did not have a loss on the scale this week. That's always a bit frustrating when I know I've been eating right and exercising, but these weeks will happen, I know.
I have been getting into some Fitbit challenges lately. It's funny, I've had a Fitbit for several years but never before did any of the challenges. They've been fun and helping to keep me motivated to get my steps in every day. I like the extra push they provide.
Gotta get ready for church. We may be getting some more snow today. This is totally crazy weather for April, even in Illinois!
Have a good week, everyone!

gpurvi63: I let MFP set my calorie goals and the pace of losing. The calorie allowance was shifted downward as I lost weight. This resulted in a slow weight loss, but a steady one that kept me healthy along the way. Regarding water weight, some foods will cause me to retain water, as will excessive salt and alcohol. :flowerforyou:
Sue: We've had a bunch of rain, too. I'm sorry about your soggy paddock and unwanted pond. I hope things improve soon.
Lanette: So far things have been reasonable, although rainy. Our forecast shows a high wind warning today, but it isn't windy at the moment. It looks as though the rain is expected to stop between 8:30 and 10 am. We will see whether they're correct.
Rori: I hope you're feeling better soon.
(((Machka))) Sending prayers and good thoughts for you and your DH as they get ready for the next surgery.
Sharon: I'm so sorry about the tragic bus crash that has hurt or killed so many fine young people. In happier news, Your DGD is gorgeous! Congratulations on her gold medal.
Heather: I'm so glad that your younger son rang, and has read your letter. Yay!
Yesterday we went to Joy Creek Nursery and bought a new lemon thyme plant, then stopped on the way home to buy a new pot for Alberta Spruce, our Christmas tree. Her old pot is a red plastic bucket, and I wanted to put her in a ceramic pot for a bit more weight. Gusty winds have been able to tip her over all too often. I wonder whether this will do the trick. The new pot is more attractive, & we like the look and feel of it. DH is still sleeping and we've made no plans for the day.

Good Sunday Morning!
Machka ~ Thanks for keeping us informed of your husband's progress and know that we are all there in spirit with you both.
Heather ~ Love the pics of your young runner. My 6 yr old GD loves running and will compete at a nearby school soon. I haven't seen her practice but I have seen her run. She is a tiny little thing with arms and legs like twigs and I know she will run like the wind. Thinking about your son having to taste beers....we who are alcoholics have a difficult time stopping at just a taste. Glad he is open to your life story.
Sharon ~ Keira is lovely and I know you are so proud of her. Just read about the tragic bus accident and prayers for all who were involved.
Kylia ~ Glad your sick workers are getting better. Having fun with your grands is a joy!
Keytone Karen ~ Yes, I think we lost our money during the time you mentioned. We had invested in stock with a company that was sold to Whole Foods. When it was sold, we lost out. I know my brother had a lot of money invested during that time and was devastated. I hope he has recouped it back since then.
I have a tooth that is troubling me and wish I still had dental insurance. It is so expensive!

Sitting here with my foot on a cool pack googling "magic instant cure for plantars fasciitis", anybody got one? Friday felt pain on bottom of left foot at edge between heel and arch. Worse standing, stepping, sharp all the way to hip. Sitting or lying eases to burning throb. Self medicated with ice, hot tub, aspirin. Abbreviated stroll with Tumble around yard a little painful. Otherwise it eased by end of day, slept well. Saturday morning did recommended stretches in bed, eased out to upright OWWWWWW! More ice/hot tub, ibuprofen. No Tumble stroll, no Dog group, no practice line dances, pfui. Again eased by end of day and slept well. Woke up to no pain. Did stretches, eased slooowwwly upbright, BAM! Owwie owwie OWWIE. So please dear friends send me the silver bullet, I want to shoot this foot OFF!
Haven't read since Page 12 but will probably catch up today as I don't see myself driving to church, walking up to communion or doing ANYTHING productive.
Grumpliy,
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.

Mary how are winters there? Are there any state parks in the area?
Washed the car and half the RV yesterday. Shoulders and neck sore today. Prepping for move next week. DH has been stressed. His anxiety levels go up with any change at all. I get bored without change.
