Accents and Soda Popi was born and raised in Chicago ( flat ‘A’’s) and moved to Texas as a young adult (y’all’s and reckons). Chicago had ‘soft drinks’ and Texas has Cokes. (Made me laugh the first time I heard someone say “want a Coke with that? We have Dr. Pepper and Gingerale.” )
Wendy and Barb : i probably will be quiet here for a while. Life happening.
Best wishes to all especially Machka

Favorite Calf stretch: Stand on a step on the balls of my feet and drop my heels down, go back up on my tip toes and drop heels down. I do this stretch any time I'm near stairs, but absolutely first thing in the a.m.

Remember chick-o-sticks? I mentioned how much I used to love them, guess who got me some
I just had one before I left for Oregon. When I was a little girl I thought I was eating wood, and I think my older sisters never told me different! It has a wood like look to it!

Another productive day!
Hung pictures, the gas man came and presently our home is a comfortable 66 degrees.
Spent way too long at a bank, waiting to change our address, and order new checks. There must've been a whole 3 people in the bank. Everyone is so techno savy nowadays I guess!
Wow, robins are silly creatures! There is a robin outside that keeps trying to fly to get to my rose plant, which is inside!
Saw three deer this morning! Cute little tidy lawn service!
Well tonight I shall take a long bath!
Love ya all!

Did a downloadable spinning workout. The plan for tomorrow is to do a bosu DVD since we have a Newcomer general meeting.
Mary - to be honest, I'm not looking at the hula hoop as a weight loss tool, just a different type of exercise. Thanks about the info about bruising. There is one exercise where you have to lean on your backside but it actually is uncomfortable for me because I don't have a lot of fat there. No, I take that back, I do have a lot of fat on my butt, but not a lot on the hip bone
Terry in VT - (((crying))) Becca is right - the hardest part is actually starting. You can do this, I know you can. What foods are your downfalls? I tend to like sweets, so those honey pretzels are a good compromise for me. I just find that I have to portion them out otherwise I'd eat the whole bag. Dried fruit is also good (just the fruit, no additives)
A friend of mine came here earlier. See, her grandchild is in Miami and we don't mind letting them use the condo overnight. Well, they brought me back a 20lb bag of grapefruit. So now I'll be eating grapefruit for a while. But that's not a bad thing. As a matter of fact, the "sourness" of the grapefruit helps me with cravings. Speaking of TV's, Dianne's mother passed away and she had two televisions. They are offering one for us to use at the condo, I believe she said it was a 54" flat screen. So we'll get rid of the TV in the second bedroom and use this one. Update: another friend stopped by. She was supposed to bring a snack to the general meeting tomorrow but has to go to a funeral so she asked if I'd bring it. Not that I really care to -- I have enough to bring already. But it's really not a big deal.
Personally, I'd rather visit Whidbey Island than look at pictures (well, I can dream, huh?). Guess pictures will help me dream.
katla - I tend to like smaller, light ornaments too. Sometimes they are so hard to find. Everything is so big and heavy!
Allie - feel better fast
KJ - I'm so relieved to hear this about your period. Phew!!!!
Lisa - I can't wait for you to write all about your move. You are such a great writer
foreverhealthy - welcome back. So sorry to hear about your parents
katla - have you ever had to trim that Alberta Spruce? Is it sort of a bluish green color? I'm trying to figure out which tree we had in front of the house we used to live in. In the 12+ years we lived there, we never had to trim it, it always kept its Christmas tree shape. And it was VERY slow growing. Unfortunately, the new people there removed that tree so I can't even take a picture of it
Not sure if Vince wants to cut the grass today or not. I suspect not, but he might be wanting to wait until later in the day. Well, I think I'll go out and put down some weed killer. Update: not today, not sure why.
Lisa - thanks for that link. It doesn't look like my information was shared, either.
Faye - welcome, come back soon.
Trish - you're sure you didn't break a mirror? There HAS to be an end in sight.
Becca - what lovely deer. Your kitchen looks amazing.

Today is World Parkinson’s Disease Day!
I had to pick this one in honor of my dear friend Matt, who is living – and rocking out – with Parkinson’s. “World Parkinson’s Disease Day marks the birthday of Dr. J Parkinson. On this day there are efforts made to increase the public awareness of this terrible disease, as well as all the good works put forth by the worlds organizations dedicated to eradicating this disease.”
Becca – Congratulations on getting to your new home in one piece! I know you’re probably anxious to settle in, but give yourself some time with those boxes. The new place looks gorgeous!
Michele – I’m with you, as far as I’m concerned any flavor of Gatorade is nasty. I prefer to drink unflavored Pedialyte if I really feel the need to boost my electrolytes.
Terry – Hey now… don’t beat yourself up. Just pick up and move forward! We all have setbacks now and then, and the key is how we deal with them.
Karen – Glad you enjoy your wool socks! I’m afraid I live in the wrong place to appreciate them properly!
Sorry to be so late with my post! I had a full work day and errands to run, so I’m just now getting enough time to sit down and try to catch up! I made my second failed attempt to open an estate account at the bank, so now I’m waiting for another piece of paper before I can (hopefully!) get that done.
Got to run so I can finish watching tonight’s episode of “The Voice” and then sit on the stationary bike for awhile.
Thinking of all of you who are dealing with "stuff" and wishing you comfort and lighter hearts.

Today we finally ordered all the panels, posts, and gate for our fence. Everything will be here in about two weeks. The man building the fence is happy to know how much time he has to dig holes for the posts and when he'll have to get busy on the fence.
Thank you to whoever suggested ordering fall bulbs from Brecks. I have birthday money to spend and there's nothing I need now but I really want bulbs in the fall. I ordered daffodils, crocus, and hyacinth and they'll come at the right time to plant in the fall.
Jake was feeling good enough to get out the electric lawn mower and cut the grass in our tiny back yard.
MIchele, every time I read about how long you held your plank, I think that it's time for me to go back to including a plank in my daily activity but I usually read your post at bedtime when I've already taken off my shoes. Finally today I remembered during the afternoon. I held my plank for 60 seconds. I might have been able to hold it longer but after so long, I decided to start small and increase the time gradually.
Stats for today:
*17,000 steps
*204 minutes walking Sasha and Bessie
*177 minutes riding the exercise bike

Thank you, for the lesson Barbara. I tried linking the Christmas Tree photo. It was a good try but I have no url because it is my own photo. I won't go through facebook because I don't like it there. I see loads of people posting photos, but I'm not talented in that area. I have to admit to being a bit stubborn about facebook, but they have problems, and I don't want to risk my privacy. I also tried inserting an image.
In the end I put a picture of Arrow up in my photo spot. I had a good time with him at the stable today. I lunged him in the arena and then went riding outside of the arena. Arrow and I were able to create a small victory. We opened the arena gate, walked though, and closed the gate without me getting out of the saddle TWO times, once to go outside and the second time to come back into the arena. This is a big achievement for the two of us.

Our government has just started charging extra tax on fizzy drinks, depending on how much sugar they have in them. Many brands have lowered their sugar content. Some, including Coca Cola, have not, so the price has to go up. We call them, fizzy drinks, pop, or soft drinks. Not soda, as that means soda water to us. I like the French, "boissons fraiches". The guys carrying the big, chilled boxes used to call it out all along the beach when I was 11.

Welcome Newbies,
Heather that is some cruise you are going on. Sounds like lots of fun. I have always told my hubby not to book us on a cruise because I'm claustrophobic and I think sleeping in a room on a ship would feel like a Titanic coffin to me, so I will stick to land travelling. (It would make a great setting for a murder mystery Agatha Christie style though) LOL
Katla, well done on the gate success. That is the same thing my Asperger's student is working on with her mare. It is a good test of control and communication...and patience. She was elated to achieve it on our last trail ride. LOL
Rye, glad to know you are lurking still, even with life happening. Hope you are keeping well.
At my husband's farewell party, I had a talk to management and have been told they plan to transition my job in June...so now I have a farewell time frame of my own to count down. I don't know WHEN in June but at least I have the month! It's not long really. I hope I can retire and don't have to take on another job but we'll just see how the finances pan out. Still waiting to be paid out so we can get rid of a mortgage. Next week I think...I hope.
Yep, life is happening here too, the grandkids are coming to stay for a week, there will be chaos and mess and noise and laughter and food and disruption.
Wendy9 -
Wendy - Our cabin is directly behind the bridge on the top of the ship. It has double French windows directly onto the deck and contains a nice lounge area with a sofa and coffee table. Definitely not a coffin! We have a bath and shower. When we wake up in the morning we draw back the curtains and can see where we are. We can step straight out for a closer look and the sun deck is a few steps away.
My DH is very claustrophobic, so we paid for a very good "suite" so he wouldn't feel closed in. He thought he would hate cruising as he doesn't like lots of strange people and is easily seasick. He doesn't like the cold and he is claustrophobic. He only came with me the first time after a lot of debate. I really wanted to go up to Penny's Arctic, even before I knew she lived there! Since that cruise we have been on another to the Baltic (St Petersburg etc) in the same cabin and this year another Baltic cruise, in the same cabin. After next year they are retiring the ship so we will have to try their sister ship.
They are Saga no fly cruises for the over 50s. Most people are 70+. They pick you up from your house. We have our own table for two as we have nothing in common with the passengers, but we get on brilliantly with the crew! The late night pianist becomes our friend.
It's impossible to describe how much we love it. We have our own butler.

Morning afternoon and evening all...
Changed my personal picture, don't know if it will work or not, but figured it was worth a shot. Two more days of work, then two more days of driving.
Rye - good to see you, hope all the life happenings are positive.
Re-Becca - it looks lovely and spacious and wonderful.
We won't actually get pictures of the inside of our new digs until we're on the way on Friday, but the management company assures me they're putting in new carpet across the entire house, and vinyl plank flooring in the dining room. They're literally finishing up the floors on Friday while we're on the way. The painters finished up earlier this week, I gather. It's a three-bedroom, two-bath, so my husband will be able to have his own bathroom again, which we are both looking forward to.
Will have to buy a bed (we have the futon to sleep on the first night) and a washer & dryer, as well as a dining table and chairs. My husband and I assured each other that, for once, what we buy will be going with us when we leave, so we'll be looking for quality furnishings that will last for a decade or two. They'll have to come out of the warehouse sale money for now, and we'll replace it in savings at first opportunity. As soon as we get somewhere close to settled in, he'll be out looking for work. It will be a relief not to be the sole source of income again!
For now, we have a love seat to sit on in the living room, and folding tables will do for my office for quite some time. He bought me a wonderful office chair for Christmas, and it's far more important than the work surface.
Then back to work for only one week, and head for Texas once more for my job--but driving this time, in easy stages. Eight different hotel in ten days, as I'm going to be driving to quite a few different places. Not my favorite thing, but need to catch up with a number of different funders, so well worth it!
Off for my second cup of coffee,
Love y'all!
Lisa in NC9 -
Lisa I think I'll join you on that second cup of coffee!
I'm enjoying all the happy news from folks, impending retirements, big moves, travel, new fences, so terrific to share in the excitement.
Me? just a regular ol' day ahead, but I'm happily packing my delightful lunch and anticipating some spring shopping for the garden this weekend. I can't wait to bring some beautiful seeds and plants to start my little backyard garden, I'm using more containters this summer since last year was so successful.
Have a great day everyone, NYKAREN5 -
Rebecca - LOVE your new place! It is gorgeous. You definitely have moving down to a science. I miss my slide outs in my cabinets. We had remodeled our kitchen at the old house and it was just what I wanted. Moved here and gave up all those little bells and whistles for a bigger kitchen and more land. It's a good change, but I do miss those bells and whistles.
Cindy - Welcome, jump right in. I was also 49 when I joined in last summer. I've lost 83 lbs with the encouragement of these ladies.
Katla - Yeah for having a good day with Arrow!
Lisa - You forgot the wakeup, my favorite part. Safe travels!
Wendy - Yeah for having a retirement date! I hope it all works out for you. You are right, June isn't too far off.
Machka - Continued prayers
As for me, I am ecstatic that it is the last day for my fruit and it will be gone! Tomorrow I get to eat varied food instead of the same fruit and yogurt and salad every meal. I realized I had bought yogurt based on the hubs eating some every day too. Since he is unexpectedly gone (and me too for 5 days), I have yogurt to eat before it expires as well. I have it all lined up in the fridge in expiration order. The good news is I will get it all eaten before it expires.
Knowing what I am going to eat isn't unusual, I plan and log my meals on Fridays normally for the following week and then shop for the ingredients on Friday morning. If I change my mind, I just change my food log. As I cook things, I check the weights and make changes as needed. Most of the stuff I've cooked enough I know how much of each item I will be using. It helps keep me on track and keeps me from putting extra things in my mouth because I know I've already accounted for all my calories.
Welcome to the newcomers, hugs to those that need them, high fives to those with accomplishments and good thoughts for all.

“Trish I feel your pain about the orthodics, it is an investment to find just the right thing, for me it was the vionic shoes ($50-$120), the SOLE slip on slippers ($45) and skeechers sneakers (pretty inexpensive). You'll get pain free, but it will take time and a lot of stretching.”
Thanks KAREN, LANETTE ,KATLA ,HEATHER ,TERRY& all for orthotic info. Have a very high instep that flattens most shoes in no time.NB has been my go to shoes for yrs.I am never barefoot, wearing Vionic slippers inside.Feet are hard to fit,so looks like I will visit DD’s Dr this summer.Bite the bullet for orthos.
LISAsafe trip & happy landing in Ark.BECCA loving your porch. After 5 yrs, still miss our front porch.

Explaining what the medical talk means in plain English & just being a ph call or e mail away.
TERRY you are always a help to anyone needing it.Time to be easy on yourself.Weight loss is not a straight line.
Most of us have dips, bumps & struggles.Don’t let depression grab hold.
You are much more than a wt gain.So am I & all of us. My sermon for today.
Looked into vinyl for bedroom floor, but decided against. We are thinking of selling in the next 2-3 yrs & most ppl
