Suebdew, well it's a learned behavior from being stationed in Japan for 7 years. I think I'm revisiting feelings from past moves. This time round I don't have sons to distract me. Need to appreciate, adapt, and know this isn't like any other moves.
We are explorers!
Thanks ladies for being you! I appreciate you all!

It is my understanding that one of the reasons soy sauce is often OK for people on a low FODMAP diet is because the beans are already fermented and broken down during the process of making the soy sauce. Not much left that is fermentable. On the other hand, highly gluten sensitive people have to be careful because, as already mentioned, soy sauce usually contains wheat.

ugghh a very long day of hall duty/proctoring. Feel bad for the kids, the testing had unlimited time and took upwards of 3.5 hours, imagine a 10 yo sitting at a desk for that long!
Looking forward to a better day tomorrow. NYKAREN5 -
got stung by a bee on Tuesday afternoon and went in to the Dr. today, my arm is swollen and red... grrr! on more benadryl than I had already been taking and a antibiotic too... ice on my arm too!!! hoping this clears up quick.
Kim in N. CAL7 -
Morning everyone
Heather - My graandparents believe that they are newly weds too. They have been married for 77 years. Here is a picture of them taken last week
Allie - I thought when you were talking about 401K - I thought is was money 401,000. However I have come to realise it is something else? Superannuation??
Pip - I hope all goes well
Lanette - Sorry I was in a rush - broke a tooth and was on my way to the dentist. Will do so
Roundbutsound - Welcome to our group
Not having a great time over here, feel as if I have walked under a ladder. First it is the teeth, then I blew up the dishwasher trying to fix it, now the tooth that had the root canal has snapped in half before the permanent crown was on - sigh. I must go out the back to see if we have a money tree growing

Wendy, retirement here you come!
Hugs to those that need them. High fives for those with a job well done.
Thanks for all your continued support. Working my way out of my blues. Hope to get a date for my MRI tomorrow. Can’t wait to know what’s happening with my ankle.
Off to bed with my book and apple.

Six weeks ago I finally went to the doctor to understand why I had so much pain in my shoulders and upper arms. I learned that I had severe osteoarthritis in both my shoulders. I was sent to an orthopedic specialist who shook his head and said, “unfortunately, there’s not much we can do. Your BMI is too high for surgery at this time.”
Fortunately, I had already made that decision - the decision that I will succeed to lose weight – which I think is the only way that we humans really achieve anything. I had planned to achieve my goal for a couple of years. After living in 900 sq feet that we shared with a few Service Dogs in training and my own dogs for far too long, we were finally able to move on. I had felt trapped in that house for years –so we pushed on to pay off the mortgage and save enough to build our dream home. The new house has a therapy pool room off the master bedroom which is the only way that I can exercise since I have severe arthritis in my knees, as well. We live in a very rural area that prohibits us from traveling to a “Gym” for exercise – especially one with a pool. The pool was one of the most important features that I designed into the house.
So, instead of having an emotional crash when the doctor told me he wouldn’t be able to permanently solve my excruciating pain, I was psychologically ready to accept that information because I was already on my journey and I was not going to let anything get in my way. That’s it, really, isn’t it? We need to put ourselves first and when we finally do that, we can reach our goals and pursue our passions and realize our inspirations.
I have lost 24 pounds in six weeks. I am reducing my caloric intake, eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible (avoiding processed food), avoiding carbs as much as possible, and preparing and cooking my meals at home (in my new kitchen, which certainly helps me feel good). I am also water jogging for 40 minutes (fairly fast – “Eye of the Tiger” song is my go-to beat), and doing some moderate exercise for another 10 minutes in the therapy pool.
If I can continue to lose 2 pounds a week, I will be able to have shoulder surgery in November, at a safer BMI. That is my goal, and I do not see any reason that I cannot achieve it barring some sort of very unusual emergency situation.
I am not a very social person, and I would not normally post something like this. I usually work independently and do not ask for help or support. But, I decided to check out the message board section and saw the thread for women over 50, so I thought I would do something out of the ordinary and make contact.
Here’s hoping we are all successful in achieving our goals and living our best lives.

Hidee Ho Tammie boy that pool sounds awesome !!! Keep up the good work.1

well KIRBY said the MRI didn't show any significant change so they are going to refer him to a neurologist to get more insight. THANKFULLY all that is free as an employee of VM. the main curiosity is how this is going to continue to affect him as he gets older, will it get worse? will I end up having to get him an electric bicycle?? who knows7

Kylia: Sympathy on the loss of your friend. I do hope you can wrap up the repairs at the rental. Been there, and just hate property-stress.
Becca: Blooming camellias deer and lots of beautiful new rooms to decorate...oh you lucky gal! So happy for you and the guys. Most deserved.
Lisa: Safe travels west for you and Corey.
Machka: Continued waves of energy beaming your way. Thank you for taking precious minutes to update us.
Barbie: I love Bernie's white 'toes'!
Lanette: Love what you wrote about fitness. Totally agree. When is that teleporter supposed to get out of the shop????
Katla: Gorgeous grandkids! Hope you'll treat us to more pix. Wonderful to hear that DH is doing better since modifying diet.
Wendy: I've been retired for a full 6 weeks and love it, love it, LOVE IT. Not having to live life around someone else's schedule is truly liberating.
SueBDew: Great to hear that the surprise party was a success. Bravo.
Evelyn: Your gson is a cutie!
Mary: Ewwwww! Poor Shep.
Pip: Holding a good thought for Kirby.
Terry: (((hugs))) Chin up, you'll get through this slump. We all have to navigate through rough patches sometimes.
TammyRogers: Welcome and keep coming back. This is a very supportive group that chats about just about everything except religion and politics. Must be wonderful to have your own private therapy pool. Keep it up.
I'm reading "The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober" by Catherine Gray. (Thank you, Heather) I am 99% AF, but my DB is binging again. Alcoholism runs in my family, and in speaking with his GF I can tell how the disease has her caught up in a sworl. Won't go into gory details here, but for those of you who pray, please keep them in mind.
My foot injury is healing quickly. Still won't hammer it on the treadmill, but getting more casual walking everyday and using the recumbent bike and rower in the gym. These nice spring days have been too nice to stay inside, so Mars the leash-loving cat has been getting extra walks outside.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Now retired and age 72. I made a commitment to start again with a good diet, as a new way of life. Also, I am adding exercise--about 5 days a week. I hear it is good to vary the kind of exercise you do. So I am alternating weight/strength training with classes in yoga and pilates. Good luck to everyone. It helps to see others working the program at my age.7

Tammie - your house with the pool sounds perfect! You are well on your way to better health and it sounds like you have your plan and you are working it. Good for you! Welcome! Where are you from? - State, general area is fine ;-).
Trish in OZ - your grandparents are so sweet... 77 years of marriage, what a couple tough youngsters. Sounds like you are in a genepool that lives a long time whether you are ready or not, lol. Sorry to hear about your tooth troubles! Our broken dishwasher has been that way for 6 months. I didn't mind handwashing dishes since there's only the two of us plus it warmed my hands during the winter.
Pip - glad Kirby's MRI didn't show anything but like you said, if it had you'd have some answers. Does Kirby take vitamins? Reason I ask is that I think nerve problems can be the result of low B vitamins (don't quote me). There are blood tests a person can have that shows the vitamin and mineral levels in a person's system but not all of them are covered by regular insurance. B12 is or can be. Hope the neurologist can track things down for him. Does this nerve thing bother him cycling right now? (((HUGS))))
Lenora - thank you for all of that reverse mortgage information. This group has been very educational about how they work and what the pitfalls are. Sorry to hear your DS's wife is having job troubles. I remember when she was looking for a job and found this one. Maybe she'll think hard about what the boss told her and take it to heart. Women co-workers can be mean and nasty without even trying to be, lol. Some of my favorite jobs were working mostly with men! And I think a lot of gals feel that way.
Mary - are you going to take Shep to the vet? That infection he had or creepy crawlies sounded bizarre! Good for your DH hitting a new low on the Keto challenge! And you are doing great as well! You are our kettlebell queen!
Rori - glad your foot is on the mend. And Mars is getting his walks! What can they do for Morton's neuroma? I still have a little bother in my left foot but hate to think of getting another cortisone shot. I have resigned myself to the fact that as we get older, we're not going to get rid of every ache and pain that comes along, just have to learn to be friends with them, lol. And not let them get too pushy. Sorry to hear about your brother. Is his GF attending Al-Anon? Helped me through some rough times. They are in my prayers.
The guy at the shop said the teleporter is sidelined until the part comes in. I asked him if it was coming from Mars and he nodded "yes". Good gravy. Hope we don't have to wait for Elon Musk to pick it up and bring it back. I'll be ready to do some time travel by then! Back to the future, ladies!
Welcome newbies by the way!
Hugs all around!

Becca: Not sure where your house is on Whidbey but we went to a wonderful arts and crafts fair at a community center there once upon a time, and came home with a few pretty things, plus full of good food and nice memories. It may have been the South Whidbey Community Center. There are wonderfully talented crafters who were selling all sorts of things and a lovely sense of friendliness and community spirit. I'll bet you will fit right in once you have a chance to catch your breath and time to explore.
(((Kim))) Feel better soon. I hope the swelling goes down asap. :flowerforyou:
(((Trish from Oz)))
Tammy: I wish you best luck. You seem to have the determination to succeed, and that is more than half the battle.
Rori: I'll keep your DB & his family in my prayers. I'm glad to hear your foot is doing better.
DH & I just had a wonderful dinner of steamer clams and are now going to go outside to walk some of it off. It has been a good day.

This is day 3 for remembering to do a plank. I used to do them every day until the problems with my legs sidelined me in 2016. I waited a year after my surgery to try again, but kept forgetting to add it to my routine. Now I am inspired again. I used to be able to hold it longer, but have started with one minute and will continue that for awhile and then increase it by 15 seconds and stay with that for awhile.
Rori, Bernie was part of a litter of kittens born to a stray that a friend adopted. I wanted a black male, but the only black cat in the litter was female and my friend told me that she had had great luck with cats with white feet so I chose Bernie. He has been a wonderful pet. He was born in 2006.
Here is Bernie with his mom and litter mates. You can see him on top of everybody with his white feet showing.

Lanette - I've always had male bosses; and, it was the secretary of the Senior Partner who was a B****. She tried her best to nail me every time he was in the office. I think it pissed her off that I got a 'bonus' (which I took as a raise) instead of a lump sum (more money that way over time). I had only worked there 1 week (5 days) and stood at the copier for 8 hours a day for those 5 days. But, he had something she did not know about and when she called me into her office; I thought surely I was going to get 'fired' after he listened to her chew me out. He called me into his office and pulled out a blue sheet of paper (which was the carbon copy of a letter she had sent out when he wasn't in his office). He handed it to me and told me to read it; then, I looked up at him - not really knowing what to say and he called her into the office. He looked at me and asked 'how many errors' do you see? Seven. In a one sentence letter ... what was so bad was that she put his first name as his middle name. He turned to her and said, 'you've been working for me for what? Twenty years?' ... then he told me that Richard was MY boss and I only had to answer to him. Then he told me that whenever he was in his office without a client I could walk through it any time I wanted to (closer to the restroom that way). When he had a client come in, I got up and closed the door between his office and mine ... then he would open it back up when they left.
Allie - I'm not sure I quite follow you on what you mean by 'doing what's right' ... wouldn't you be 'throwing good money after bad' if you pay the 'reverse mortgage' and be giving them personal information that they could use to your disadvantage? Talk to an attorney - did he have a Will? Did is say that you (and your brother) would need to pay off his debts? If the 2 of you got 'insurance proceeds' that is NOT (at least not in Georgia) a 'part of the estate'. It is meant for a spouse to have for living expenses to spend anyway they deem necessary. Not to spend it paying off bills they did not have any part in making. Such as 'credit card' debt. Credit Card Companies charge you exorbitant interest and they don't care if you pay them off or not; banks the same way ... they'd rather you only be able to pay the interest only, that's how they make 'their' money. Banks don't stay open just to be there to handle our money - they need to make money to stay open and pay 'overhead'. Allie - TALK TO AN ATTORNEY. Don't take my advice, definitely don't take TomCat's, get all possessions 'out of the house' before you find a pad lock on the door. You did not 'sign off on this reverse mortgage' ... they cannot 'make you pay it'. I guess that is why Florida is the BEST place to live and file a 'bankruptcy' because they cannot take your house away from you. You keep talking all the time about 'trying to do the "right" thing' and you will end up in bankruptcy court yourself. But, like I said, 'don't take my advice - I'm not an attorney - and if I was ... I would not be able to practice in the state you live in (Connecticut). Granted, they might have laws to the effect that survivors are responsible for the debts of a parent, sibling, or child. But, do whatever it is that you 'seem to think is the 'right' thing to do'. You're going to do it anyway.
Sorry, ladies ... "I'm outta here."

Did Michelle Dozois’s Pure Strength DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 20-40-60 workout on the treadmill.
Okie – I like to add honey to plain yogurt. Also, I’ve found that if you freeze fruit (say blueberries) and then thaw them in the yogurt, they have some “water” from freezing which when the fruit melts it leaves a “juice” in the yogurt
Carol – you NEVER had a colonoscopy!!! NEVER???? I have to ask – why????
Becca – can’t wait for the video.
Okie – I prelog my dinners for the following week and breakfasts if I know them. I do like to prelog before I eat dinner so I know if I’m over calories or not. Sometimes I think I’m not and it winds up that I am. Other times just the opposite
Barbie – what show are Bessie and Bernie watching? Must be something really interesting.
Terry in VT – please be kinder to yourself. Betty has a great suggestion. I really believe exercise helps with depression. I’m talking intense exercise.
Supposed to volunteer at the Green Room today then it’s “cut the grass” time. Tomorrow is supposed to be real nice, I’d like to get the pool opened. But I did promise these gals at Newcomers that I’d go on a field trip with them, so hopefully we can get the cover off the pool today (that part Vince needs me for) and tomorrow Vince can start getting the chemicals adjusted.
Lanette – very insiteful about benig “fit”. You are so right, that’s how I felt in my youth, too and how I feel now. I’m at the point of “if you don’t like my body – don’t look. I feel good and my numbers are good, to me that’s what counts”.
I just realized that one of the plants we planted last year really doesn’t bloom until May. I wanted something that bloomed early. Well, I can plant daffodils and that’ll take care of it. We did plant some smaller plants in front that are blooming, so that helps a lot
Personally, I’d love to travel and I’m not pickey where. Only thing is I know that I don’t want to go myself and Vince has no desire to do any traveling. So looks like I’ll be home yet again. Glad I have my pool
Suebdew – so glad that the party was such a success!
Janet– welcome!
Exercised, went to the soup kitchen, then the post office, then Lynette’s office, then volunteered at the Green Room, then bought gas, home to cut the grass and then……wait for it…..started opening the pool!!! Covers off, washed and put away, started shocking the pool. This is the first time ever we ever had a critter in the pool when we opened it. I think it might have been a groundhog or something. Anyway, when Vince went to take it out of the pool, it started breaking up – it was so decomposed. And did it ever smell!
Tomorrow I’m supposed to go to this place, Clines, with the Newcomers. Basically, they have something like 5 acres of different things you can buy. Like one gal got this “hand” for her garden. It’s a mold that a welder uses. Interesting…… Anyway, while I’m gone Vince said that he’d do the weedwacking and probably start getting the leaves out of the pool.
Wendy – great plank time!
Margaret – you said that it’s illegal to hang anything from your mirror? I assume the handicapped placard is exempt from this
Becca – fantastic stoves. What kind of supplemental heat do you have?
Trish – wow! 77 years. I’m in awe. You poor dear! Things have to get better
Tammie – I know you can lose the weight because you have a great incentive. Welcome to a great group!
Lynette – Elon is probably bringing the part for the transporter back in his Tesla

I can certainly sympathize about your tooth. I had one break in half while driving home on a 12 hour trip from from older sister's funeral. I had just lost my wedding rings in the middle of no-where Kansas and crying my eyes out about that when the tooth broke. Dentist put a temporary crown on it until she could schedule me for a permanent crown. As soon as the numbness wore off I realized cold water, salad etc were sending shooting pains through the tooth. A week or so later hot foods began doing the same thing. Eventually constant pain in the entire side of my face. I went back to dentist yesterday, she adjusted the crown to sit lower and said if the pain wasn't resolved we would have to take off the crown, do a root canal and replace the crown. It feels better today but still some pain and definitely cold foods/liquids are painful. Ugh
We can go exploring together for that money tree.
Janetr OKC
PS - I just posted a wedding picture of my sister and BIL on Facebook in honor of their 50th anniversary today. She's the fourth of my sisters to celebrate 50. The only one that didn't died of a stroke before they reached 50. Then there is me, the youngest, married for the third time. Third time's a charm!!5 -
