We received a shipment of 6 clear food grade storage boxes from Amazon. Each holds 64 ounces. I used 3 new ones today and have 3 left for the future. We have all sorts of new food products, from gluten free pie-crust mix, to tapioca flour and corn flower. We've already got storage containers for our gluten free pastas. The specialty flours come from Bob's Red Mill, a specialty grain mill. I can by Bob's Red Mill products in any of our local grocery stores. We're both trying to make this dietary change into an adventure rather than an ordeal.
We love Bob's Red Mill products. I have heard there is a store/restaurant up near Portland, and we've been meaning to check out the rumor, but we haven't done it yet. Their brownies are incredible -- my gluteny kids love them better than regular brownies.

Hi folks
I spent yesterday afternoon off and downloaded Heather's book to get my head out of the work environment. I only have to work for the next 2 day and then have Wed (Anzac day) Thursday and Friday off.
Heather - Your book has me so intrigued, I am up to the section where they said they you are 4 years advanced of your age. It is written in a manner that you just want to keep turning the pages to see what is happening next, I did not want to put it down, except chores got in the way ( I am taking GD to meet her driving instructor at the place she will have her lesson) - so have taken it with me whist I wait
Trish in OZ5 -

Did a DVD on the rebounder today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Strength Cardio DVD.
Hopefully, parts for the pool will come tomorrow so I did most of my cooking today. Made turkey meatloaves, flounder, salsbury steak, then made the vanilla and chocolate cakes for the marble cake that I want to try making this weekend. Had a little batter left over so Vince will get some cupcakes.
Suebdew – I’m so sorry about your friend but like you glad that your grandson is home.
Evie – most of the parts for the pool will be here tomorrow but the elbows for the pipes won’t be here until Monday (where the weather is supposed to be rainy)
Lynette – Denise and Pete aren’t scheduled to move in with his mother until July. Denise said that she wants to wait until the end of the school year. However, she has been asking us about updating her resume. I just hope she can find a good job. We offered to pay in full for her to get a bachelor’s degree but she turned us down and instead opted to go for only an Associates and go part time. That’s her decision. I know when I worked at the school we really didn’t think much of someone who only had an Associates degree. Well…not my monkey, not my circus. I don’t know what she’ll do if Pete ever (god forbid) gets disabled or, worse, dies. But then again, like I said, not my problem. The house next door from us is for sale. I would like to have one of the kids (probably Jess) say that she’s interested in the house just so I can see what the inside is like. Wonder if the bathroom is upstairs or downstairs? Do you know that hydrogen peroxide will take blood out of clothing as long as it hasn’t been thru the dryer?
Sectioned grapefruit. I’m going to try making a grapefruit pie for this one gal’s birthday (the one who stays at the condo. She brought me back a 20 lb bag of grapefruit the last time she was there). I’d never heard of one. I honestly thought it would be more work to section the grapefruit, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn’t nearly as much work as I had feared. Now I just have to let the grapefruit drain.
The gal who’s working on the magic show with me had never heard of edible glitter, so since I have to make a cake for us anyway, I’m going to try putting some of the glitter on it. The package says it’s for fondant. Wonder what’ll happen if you use it on buttercream icing? Well, we shall find out.
Hmmm…just took the cakes out of the oven. Looks like they need to bake more. I wonder if it’s because I have two cakes in the oven? Got these things that go around the cake pan which are supposed to help the cake not to rise as much in the center. They work quite well.
The Tink – welcome. I’m the same way – I have to cook for pickey dh and try to keep within my calorie allotment. One site I’ve found very useful was Skinnytaste. Like I made those meatloaves today. Vince likes them, I just don’t tell him that they’re turkey. I’ve also found that I like the shirataki noodles. I admit, at first they do take some getting used to. But now I’d actually prefer them to regular spaghetti
Lenora – Vince is constantly telling me that I need to check my phone more often for texts and missed calls.
Heather – downloaded Kindle on my tablet and got your book. I only read the first two pages but now I can’t wait for Tuesday to get here when I will be doing reading at the Green Room. So captivating. Yesterday I was trying to find someone to sand and repaint this outdoor decoration we have. Vince said that he’d do it. This morning I wrote down a list of the things he said he’d get to and it hasn’t happened. I’m STILL (it’s only going on 6 years now) waiting for him to put up the quarterround in my exercise room. It’s only been a year since he said that he wanted to repair this part on my car that Jess hit. She has a new car now, I still have the scratches. I mentioned this old ceramic christmas tree we had from his mother. It’s only been 6 months since he said he wanted to look at it. So today he actually looked at the Christmas tree. I’m a firm believer in doing a bit today and a bit tomorrow and it’ll get done. Not Vince, he waits and does everything at once. I’m so so sorry about your buyer
Machka – so glad for the updates about your dh. What are they doing to prevent bedsores? Do they have some of those compression stockings on him so that he doesn’t get a bloodclot?
Katie – how scary to see your dad that way! Beautiful girls
Lisa – “dancing for you”
Welcome everyone new.
Allison – what part of NJ are you from? Welcome back
KJ – heartwarming! I’m in absolute love.
Terry in VT – I agree with you on those pearl beads. Colored beads would look so much better.
Katla and anyone else who uses Bobs Red Mill – I just have to say this. Do you know that every month you can download two Bobs Red Mill coupons for $1 each? Go to their home page and you will be able to get them
About hair – I do color my roots and in a few weeks I’m going to try going to the local cosmetology dept at the Community College to get my hair cut. We shall see how it goes. I don’t think they can do too much damage. I’m not trying to change my hairstyle, just get it shorter. Now if I were looking for layers, I might want to go to a beauty shop
Evelyn – I found that spanx helped to smooth out some of the lumps. Actually, right before Denise’s wedding I’d lost so much weight that I really didn’t need them. I was just so stress what with everything Pete’s mother put me thru, what she put Jess thru (and therefore us). At least it’s over now. Oh, did I tell you all? I posted this thing on Facebook “my pool is all ready for St. Patrick’s Day and I didn’t even have to add any dye” Do you know that Denise had to explain to his mother that what I meant was that it was green from the algae growing over the winter and not that my pool was open? Pete got some sort of licenses for being a captain on a boat (I seriously question if he’ll ever make that). He posted about it on Facebook. To be honest, I was VERY liberal but I lost count of how many grammatical errors there were.
Rebecca – your meals always look so wonderful!
Rye – personally, I find it very uncomfortable to have the weights on my shoulder. I’d prefer to have them by my side. To be honest, I’m a bit too boney on my shoulders and the weights hurt some.
Janetr – how adorable!
Jess called, wanted to know if we could go up there to help her move. I’m thinking that we’ll go up Wed. and probably come back Fri. The only thing that we have is the Newcomer board meeting Wed but if we miss, we miss. Then Fri night we’re supposed to go to a play but I suspect we’ll be back in time. Nothing definite yet. Called Nancie to see what her schedule is and if she could come give the cats their meds. She said that she could. She is charging us $10 per visit. I guess that’s OK, but part of me says “gee, it’s not like it’s out of your way, the school where you tutor is right down the road from us and its not like it has to be at a certain time, you can come before school and then after school. You’re down here anyway." But really that’s about what we pay for the other lady who comes here. It just probably would be nice to use Nancie.

Yummy!

I don’t know what happened to my post from last night. Poof! Gone!
I had a good day. I’ve been back tracking for 4 days now. Feeling good so far although I was dizzy yesterday. I think it was a lack of peanut butter cookies!
Machka So sorry to hear about your DH and your life changing events. I will put you on my prayer list!
Lisa Yes, we travel thru Fayetteville every once in a while on our way to KC.
There’s a wonderful Native American museum in Bentonville that we like to go to. It’s funded by Walmart and near their corporate offices. They have a collection of Paleo Clovis points and Dalton points that are amazing. 10,000-12,000 years old. My husband is a collector and likes to compare notes with curator.
Got off track, but we’ll have to meet up!
Lanette Hey there! Yes, Arkansas is very beautiful! That’s why it’s called the Natural State! There are so many lakes, rivers and national and state parks to visit, camp or go fishing. There are 400,000 hunters here too.
I’m glad you are still here!
I worked in the garden today for 45 minutes today. Mostly raking up leaves we missed last fall. I was going to plant irises by the mailbox but a friend said don’t do it till fall cause I would kill them. They are in a pot now. Would I kill them if I didn’t disturb them. I brought them home from my DD house in Cheyenne last year. They are the darkest purple I have seen. I order yellow online. I was disappointed I won’t get them until September!
It’s fun gardening and I love it but back surgery is not conducive to gardening!
Next month I have 3 spinal injections. Hopefully they can stretch out the time before I have to have another surgery. I have to get another test at the neurologist for neuropathy. I already had one last summer. Not so much fun. *#€@!
Well that’s about it! I’m leaving y’all with some pictures of our sweet Dolly girl!
Much Love,
Dana in Arkansas

Michele, you are a daily inspiration to me. When I read your post, I think of how you always say how long you held your plank, so I walk away from the computer and do mine. I am up to one minute 15 seconds now.
Heather, I am so sorry about the problem with your house sale.

Machka – so glad for the updates about your dh. What are they doing to prevent bedsores? Do they have some of those compression stockings on him so that he doesn’t get a bloodclot?
He has DVT in his right arm from shoulder to elbow at least, if not all the way down to his hand. That showed up about a week or 10 days into this process and could have been caused by a bruise from his fall or possibly all the lines they put into his right arm at first or both.
He was on Heparin for a while and then as it started to resolve, they switched to Clexane injections twice a day. Just like they did with me when I had DVT in my left leg in 2009! His DVT is resolving now.
Yes, he has compression stockings on his legs and has done since his first surgery. That's something hospitals always do now for any patient who will likely be lying down for an extended period of time ... or patients like me who are genetically predisposed to developing clots.
He also has special blood pressure cuffs on both legs to keep the blood flowing properly, which is also something they do with patients who will by lying down for an extended period of time ... or patients like me who are genetically predisposed to developing clots.
They turn him regularly, change his angles, and he's on a bed designed to relieve pressure points. Plus now, they're putting him in a special kind of chair and will gradually get him sitting up more.
I've been impressed ... they're taking really good care of him.

Heather- rats!! The real estate rules in UK make it very hard on both the seller and the buyer. Keep going forward with a fierce heart. I forgot whose mom told them that.
KJ- so glad to see my love, Joaquin. He is such a happy baby.
Machka- you are doing great. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. You and your DH are in my prayers daily.
So glad we don’t have to leave when we reach 60 or I would’ve been gone a long time ago. My DH just turned 80 and was weedeating the river bank this morning and fell backward down the bank. He caught himself before he hit the river. He said they taught him how to fall in the AF but not backward. He decided he wasn’t going to do that job anymore. Duh....
Janetr- beautiful picture.
Dana- I like your streak.

Here on MFP, we see many threads on losing motivation or having bad days and struggling to stay on track etc.
I've been doing some thinking about that lately.
The last thing in the world I have wanted to do for the past month is live the life I'm currently living ... going to the hospital every single day for hours to sit with my husband. There have been many days where I've just wanted to pack a suitcase and fly away from it all or go to sleep and wake when it's over. But every single day I get up and go to the hospital, and try to do the other things involved in keeping our lives together. It's not optional.
When I lost my weight, I approached it in a similar way.
I might not want to log my food and get out for some sort of exercise every single day, but it is something I just did. I got up, brushed my teeth, had my shower, caught the bus to work, ate within my calorie limit, logged my food, exercised, went to the university, did my homework. Losing weight was important to me, so I made the mechanisms to lose weight 'not optional' ... and that's what worked for me.

Rori: Your evening sounds like an excellent plan for a cold and stormy night. Soup in the slow cooker and a great old movie are very nice, indeed.
Rebecca: Prayers for your middle son's wife. I hope her health issues are resolved soon. :flowerforyou:
(((Heather))) Sending good thoughts for the sale of your home so that you can move to Hove.
Felicia: we haven't actually been to Bob's Red Mill but we've heard it has a grand store and also a restaurant. They're located in Milwaukie, about half way between us, give or take. DH has been feeling rough for the past month or so, and I don't think he's up to the adventure of going there just now, but it is on my bucket list. Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods, 13521 SE Pheasant Ct, Milwaukie, OR 97222.
Michelle: Thanks for the information about Bob's Red Mill coupons! I didn't know anything about them. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I'm so happy to hear how well the hospital is taking care of your DH. Sending good thoughts for his recovery. Your comments about how you take care of your health are eloquent and on target. I aadmire your choice to stay as healthy as you can.
SueBDew in TX: I'm so glad that your DH wasn't seriously hurt in his fall. I'm happy to know he'll be getting someone else to do that job.
We've both been active for the past couple of days & DH is tired and went to bed at about 8:30. I hope he sleeps well and feels good to go tomorrow. Nothing is currently planned for the day except that we'll try to put a little fun into it.

Suebdew in TX thank you on the great-grands pic. They are barely a year a part in age. Mom's gonna be busy
Jack fell today too. Floyd, our next door neighbor, sold two of the llama's and they were pinning them up to load into the buyer's trailer. The younger of the two females bolted, Jack grabbed her with both arms around her neck but she had too much steam and she just knocked him flat on his rear. Jack is tall and skinny and has no padding back there. Poor guy is moving very slowly tonight. He has had his left knee replaced twice and now its worse than ever, the knee cap has slipped and it two inches lower than it should be. His knee is pretty swollen, he's gonna be feeling this for a few days.
Continuing good thoughts and prayers for Conner.

Hi Gals,
Penny – thanks for the song snippet!
Machka- great news and tough to think hubby will be living in Rehab for an undetermined amount of time… but he is making amazing progress. I am so glad to hear your co-workers were so considerate.
Kate – great pictures! Are the girls sisters? Cousins?
Lisa – great view in the rear view mirror!
Heather – the look on your friends face gave her away as the difficult one. Oh dear !!!!! the buyer is a _____ !!!
Kelly – adorable!
Rori – I’m hoping Boston is lovely – graduation is in the new England patriot’s stadium, and it was snowing 2 days ago…. So it has 14 days to straighten up, cool ok, but no snow, and little to no rain, and I’ll be happy!!!
Machka – all you are going through and you manage to write a inspiring post as well ! You are amazing. I was going to whine a bit, but you gave me a big dose of perception - thanks!
I went to my DM (darling mom)’s today and took my nephew out to lunch, I’m trying to do it once every 2 weeks or more often, it is his dad with terminal cancer. He will be the only heir and will have to deal with everything as my brother won’t put anything in writing, so I am doing “training” with my nephew today was terms – just learning what things mean – cremation, burial, dnr, power of attorney for health care, financial power of attorney, and funeral vs celebration of life…Also he did not know you have to pay for a funeral/burial/cremation…. We also talked about the value of putting things in writing, and what would be best as a first, second, third choice if he could get his dad to do it. I had all the forms printed out. I was so proud of him, it was a very “facts are facts” discussion, not all emotional and crazed… He seemed to appreciate that we could just talk about it.
While there I found out that my Mom is sick and feeling very bad, she has a pace maker and thinks it is going wonky, so she has an appointment for Tuesday with the cardiologist, I’ll be going.
This week will be busy, Monday – friend for breakfast at 6:30am then gardening, Tuesday cardiologist in the afternoon, 12 coming for dinner at 7pm, Wednesday a early morning gardening job, and dinner out with friends, Thursday, a morning gardening job, Friday -12 folks from my garden club coming to the kids camp I work at for a garden work day, I provide snacks and coffee, so will be making coffee cake. But the laundry is done, and I’ve started on the do-aheads for dinner on Tuesday and Friday’s snack.
Smiles

Machka in Oz What an inspiration, I'm humbled by your dedication and determination. I can't pretend to know how you feel having not been in the situation, but having your world turned upside down in a split second is something none of us ever hope to face. I hope that if I'm ever faced with a such a situation I will remember you and your grace and strength. Biggest big (((hugs))) to you and I continue to pray for both you and your husband.

Dana, I see no reason why you couldn't plant the irises now. They might not bloom this year, if you disturb them, but they shouldn't die. I've moved mine, treated them kind of rough, broke off the scraggly, dead looking parts of the tubers, or just cut the tubers back as they were getting too large, and mine have all lived just fine. They don't always bloom, I suspect that is because of the rude treatment they got, but they certainly didn't die! lol
Machka, excellent philosophy! I'm going to give that a try....
Darn, can't remember whose great grands are Layla and ....... the sweet little blonde, but, oh my! just too much cute for one photo! (good memory, but it's woefully short!!)
Sue, goodness! Sometimes it surprises me what has to happen to men before they figure out they shouldn't be doing some things! lol Mine is getting better, but.....
Disappointing day today, got up, the sun was shining, it was beautiful! Around 2 p.m., the heavens opened up and it rained like crazy! Most annoying. On the bright side, we had three birthdays at work this month (13th, 14th and 18th) so instead of buying cakes for each of them, the boss decided to take us all out for dinner! Spouses are always included in extra activities, so it was a pleasant evening out. I'm sure I went over calories, but I did sort of try to keep it within reason! Sure was good, had french onion soup and caesar salad, maybe not the best choice, but very enjoyable. When we got home, I went and brushed my teeth right away, so there will not be any grazing tonight! Feeling happy about that! Still have not heard anything from child in regards to my plan for the inlaws at his wedding. I don't know quite what to think. Maybe he's tried phoning the guy and is waiting to hear back from him... Well, I came up with what I think is a perfectly good solution, he's just going to have to accept that his father and I can't take care of them and enjoy ourselves at the same time. And then we'd have to cut the evening short too, and the wedding is just far enough out of town that it wouldn't be practical to drop the inlaws off and then go back. I know I need to stop stewing about it, but that's easier said than done! Oh well, it will all work out.
Hope everyone has a great day/night!

Back again. I hopped back in at pg.59 so once again know that I have missed a lot. Seems to be a common theme for me this not keeping up but I am going to be easy on myself this time around. Trying to do things when and if I have energy for them.
Penny - I try to get my Vitamin D from being outside if I can. Living in Canada though I decided to take my Dr's advice and have been taking a D3 supplement for a few years. Growing up we were given our daily dose of cod liver oil and Burdock's Blood Bitters.
Heather - Congratulations on your book. I have not yet got the book but it is on my list.
I am sorry to hear of your buyer's buyer pulling out. How frustrating!
KJ - Joaquin made me smile. So adorable.
Janetr - Those little face make me so Happy. Great photo of Mia and baby Layla
Machka - Thank you for keeping us informed. It is a long journey for you and your DH. Please make sure to lean on family and friends when you need. Keeping you both in my prayers.
My joy in the last week has been spending time with sweet Harmony while her Mom worked a temp job. We coloured, danced, created, walked to the park, played on the swings, listened to the "beautiful bird songs", made lunch together and then I would take her to school. I even was invited to her "Special Day". She introduced me as her "Favourite Grandma".
I am still working on finding a marriage counselor that my benefits will cover. I still do not have clarity on what I exactly want. I picked up The Mindfulness Manual by Prevention. I hope it helps me. Larry seems to have decided that 36 years is too long to just throw away. He seems to be trying but once trust has been broken so badly the road back is pretty bumpy. We are both trying I think. He seems happier than he has been in a long while. Yes, I am being careful.
Tomorrow we are going to Medicine Hat to watch Keira compete. I am not sure how many other dances we will watch. Tonight we travelled to Vulcan where he bought a 1940 Pontiac Coupe that he wants to Rod out.
I went to lunch today with some cousins and my sister. It was good.
Sunday I am going for lunch and a movie with 2 ladies that I worked with for a large number of years. We are going to "I'm Pretty". I think it should be good for a laugh or two. I am so looking forward to this.
I am expecting a tax refund of $1000+. I'm going to put most of it on my credit card and keep a small amount for fun.
I have been taking Chico for 2-3 short walks in a day. These are manageable with my cane.
Monday I had the cortisone injections on either side of my spine. Ouch! I didn't do much for the rest of the day. Harmony was able to spend that day with her Auntie Jheri.
Today I spent some time on the deck with my DBIL and watched Robins.
Still working on finding my Joy
