Michele, Thanks for asking, he's getting around well this evening. They have already replaced Jack's knee twice now. This last time they put long supports running half way up high thigh bone and down his shin bone to hold the knee in place, which obviously didn't do much good. They sent him to a specialist that told him there are only 4-5 surgeons in the state who could do the procedure and he recommended further surgery as a " last resort".

Janetr - Felicity is divine - what a beautiful dress! Very becoming and tasteful (geeze that sounds like something my grandmothers would have said, lol.) But it's true! Prom already. Whoa!
Rebecca - I always look forward to the little sayings and photos you post. Keep 'em coming! At our house, I try to fix something my DH will like that we both eat - roast beef & veggies, a ham/egg/potato bake, unstuffed cabbage rolls. Something in the crockpot that he's willing to eat two or three days if I'm lucky. Otherwise, we each do our own thing. Sometimes I stop by McD's on my way home from shopping and he gets a sandwich and I'll make a salad for dinner.
Kind of a busy day - off to town this morning to meet up with old (long time) friends - a couple who became our best buddies in addition to shepherds when we all lived east of Seattle in the '80's and early '90's before it became a techie haven. They were born and raised in the UK and moved over to the States in their early 20's. Alan lost his accent, but Ingrid still has a trace of British after 50 years over here, very cute! They were in town for an event and I met them for lunch. Love it when we are able to pick up conversations we were having ten years ago.
Anyhow, they and their grandkids are really into beekeeping and I told them about Wendy and her "queen making".
Consequently, I've been going through our old posts here to try to find Wendy's bee stories to compare them to Alan's queen stories. I started back in January of this year and it's been fun to see what we were all up to back then.
Joyce - you were posting a lot back then and I'm going through withdrawal, lol. Hope things are going well in Southern Indiana!
My niece got married today in Northern Indiana and I'm waiting for some photos to appear on Facebook. She's a modern gal and the baby girl (so far she's going to be named Allison) is due in July. They are both excited to be parents - in their late 20's so very ready to start a family. We are super happy for them!
Better sign off - day is whipping by!

Talked with my middle son, and wife is doing well. She was bleeding due to an ectopic sp? pregnancy. Where the baby grows outside the womb. She had surgery to remove the issue, and they had to remove one of her tubes. She is a young thing, but the doctors told my son and her, they can still conceive, but it will be a bit more difficult. Son is handling things well, and at least she has stopped bleeding and everything. Poor gal.
Thankful at Whidbey

We love our Saturdays. This morning after walking the dogs we did grocery and miscellaneous shopping followed by a simple lunch (meatless corn dogs and sliced tomatoes). Yesterday we took everything out of the utensil drawers in the kitchen and discarded the ones we haven't used in years. Today Jake made the decision of what goes in which drawer so he can no longer say that he doesn't know where to find things. After lunch we watched TV a bit and then took a nap. The weather didn't invite working in the yard so we puttered in the house and did a few easy household chores. Soon it will be bedtime. I am so grateful for our simple life.

Hi Gals,
Sharon – hang in there, you do not need to know what you want, that is part of why you are going to go to counseling. I have a friend that KNEW she wanted her marriage to work and she and hubby went to counseling and found out that her hubby also wanted to stay married but told her and the counselor he would make no changes, make no effort, basically that he was perfect and she was the problem… they are divorced. So find a counselor and go hoping for insight, and then you can make a decision about what is best.
Rebecca – excellent, on weight loss and cute earrings! Glad DIL is ok, that is a tough situation, but I’m so glad she is ok
Carol – it’s easy to rescreen a slider – you should blow him away and do it yourself! Here’s a youtube video that’s pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmDHChZMNO8
Allie – oh dear!!! Take care!
So sometimes I wonder how recipes are figured out, I made a chicken dish, that is ok, not great but ok…. It said it was 4 servings, each one cup, ok that will work, not too many days or leftovers…. 8 cups!!!! Of a not great recipe, 3 cups in the freezer, I just couldn’t take one more day of an ok, not great dinner. So I have made 2 new recipes this week and tossed both the recipes out, one more for tomorrow night – fingers crossed it will be good.

Katla - Those are not my pictures. My DDIL is good enough to send both sets of grandparents regular updates on their doings. We do see them more often than you are able to see yours, but the photos keep us going between times. Sometimes we send the kids a silly one of us! They love that. I occasionally do a Touchnote postcard for them which they can keep. Often it's six weeks between visits. Next week we are babysitting for two days and staying over. DDIL has a conference in London and the nanny is on holiday for two weeks. Last week the other grandparents babysat.
We do Skype them, but it is always utter chaos.
This house business has ÷×+%#× up our plans to get down there so we can see them more often. Don't you just hate some people?! Grrrrrrrrrr!
My cystitis is back. I thought I had conquered it during the trip, with copious drinking of water and cranberry juice, but it has returned. Just bothersome, not agony. Back to the cranberry. Will get some more today.
We had a big thunderstorm last night. Quite spectacular. The power stayed on.
It's the London Marathon today. DH's lovely niece is running in it. We have both contributed to her charity. Everyone hopes the temperatures will not be too high - especially for the fun runners who are costumed. Good job it wasn't last week - 29.5°!!
I will be watching on the TV and probably going for a run myself!
The niece is the loveliest woman, but has terrible trouble choosing the right men. Now she is 39, desperate to get married and longing for a baby. She may have her eggs frozen. She has a father who is a psychological mess, so it's not surprising.
Then we will pack a couple more boxes of books. That may be the last. 17 large boxes!
Going to make a veggie curry for tonight. My DH is unusual, I think, in that he absolutely LOVES vegetables. If he doesn't have a large pile of fresh, green stuff on his plate he would be upset. When I first met him I found it odd that he wanted green veg with a pasta dish, but I do it automatically now. So our plate is at least half green. Or white, if it is cauliflower. Fortunately, he takes it upon himself to buy the veg regularly, plus all the fruit we eat. He checks on the stock. Tonight we have some left over bits to use up. I'll do it in the IP. There's yoghurt in there at the moment.
I have modified my cooking a bit for him. I like very spicy, oriental food, so I have that while he is at cricket. He does eat spices, but not so much. I can add that at the side, or put a bit of chilli sauce on top. I cook him extra potatoes, rice or pasta because he is very skinny. He used to cook more, but I took it over when I was calorie counting. Luckily he does all the washing up and keeps the kitchen clean. He also makes us breakfast in bed every morning - muesli with chopped fruit and berries. He makes coffee and tea regularly too and the stewed fruit dessert we have every night. At the moment it's home grown rhubarb. Yum!
I have been awake since 4 am this morning with the cystitis. Now it's 6.30. Botheration.
Allie - Ouch!
Janetr - Love the prom princess!
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -
Heather - Those grandkids are cuties for sure.
Janetr - Felicity is a beauty.
Becca - I am glad that your DIL is doing okay. It is a pretty hard thing to go through. My sister had a similar experience. She was told that she probably wouldn't conceive but Kate is now in her late 20s.
Today my joy was going to Keira's dance competition. I wish we had a photo of her surprised little face when she saw us. The girls did well and Phoenix of a Feather won gold. One more competition for her, performance at a Senior's home and a dance recital. She is begging for more lessons and wants to do a solo next year.
We went to the Cheesecake for lunch to meet one of Jheri's best friends and her family. She is the daughter of one of my best friends. The girls were babies when we met. It was a lunch filled with laughter so more joy.
We stopped at my brother's on the way home and had supper with them. Madison (5) played games with me, did some puzzles with me and told me I was her best friend. More Joy! Her Mom said "Hey, Auntie, did you notice that you gave all of those things to her?" Actually I hadn't realized it.
Tomorrow is the lunch/movie date. Monday , I will be looking after Harmony again. Keira says maybe they should have a play day. Jheri will be painting a house with her Dad.
Sending prayers for all that need them.

Heather and Sharon, thank you on the nice compliments on Felicity. She's a very intelligent young lady but shy and rather unsure of herself. I guess all teenage girls think they are "ugly" in today's world. It breaks my heart. She's had a driver license since she turned 16, about 18 months ago, but she won't drive because it stresses her out, she doesn't keep a job for long because it stresses her out. At this point her schooling it much more important than a job. I pray she grows into her self-confidence and makes wise choices to become the amazing woman I know she can be.

Rebecca - So sorry to hear about your DDIL. Such hopes crushed. She will be able to conceive ok with the one tube, but I'm sure she will be worrying about it. (((Hugs)))

We have rain today in Northern UK, after 3 glorious days of sunshine. Haven't seen what it's like in London yet for the marathon. For such a small country we get lots of different conditions in different parts.
My friend with the health problems seems much better, she went and had her hair cut, she took a taxi there (it is 10 minute walk for me) but walked back with her son. Her first time out for months. I told her baby steps, do 1 thing each day. She talked about employing a cleaner for a couple of hours each week. That's great but house needs thorough declutter and clean first. I have found a company who will do this and will give her the details, then it's up to her. Only hope she doesn't go into a downward spiral again.
HEATHER do take care of yourself don't let cystitis go on too long, you may need antibiotics

Morning! Sunday is my planning/prep day but first have a scheduled a walk with my bff before all the food shopping and meal prep and laundry and ironing!
Yesterday I met for coffee with a young teacher that was not rehired next year in my school. She is a very confident/negative person, a very strange combination. I was exhausted after the conversation, but felt that it was a professional courtesy to help her process what was essentially a firing and listen to her next steps. It was intense!
I didn't avoid going (as DH suggested I do) because I think it is important for me to support and share with young teachers, but frankly and I did say this to her, she seems more interested, positive and enthusiastic about managing/admin role rather than improving her teaching craft.8 -
Good Sunday Morning!
First and foremost, THANK YOU all of YOU for continuing your support for all of us! I have been quiet on here, but reading every day. Just couldn't seem to catch up. You are inspiring to me each and every day. The ability to share the fears, worries, hurts, loves, struggles, strengths, and support is fabulous! Again, THANK YOU! I am not as eloquent as some of you but it is heart felt!
It really has been a crazy week. Probably need to take mower to rental and check on it as we haven't been there since Wednesday. Monday night was my massage. Masseuse says I am a mess and couldn't believe I had been stretching. I told her imagine how bad it would be if I hadn't been! Was off to grocery after that. Tuesday night was hair color. I love my colorist. The reds are my favorite and her specialty. While there her client prior to me was prepping for her final day of teaching. She is going with blue (like the purple one of you has) for her final day. I hope Spring takes picture. Sorry, didn't take notes and can't remember who that was. I love the wild colors, but my hair is too dark, so we just bleach it out in sections for brighter red. Back to work after that to organize the chaos from the day, and prepare for Wednesday. Wednesday we finished odd jobs at rental. Still haven't heard from realtor after her showings on Thursday. Ready to have that off our plate. Thursday I brought DH home to get his hair cut, and went back to work for another 2.5 hours. Our friend cuts it for him. It must be trust that I leave him with a long legged, big boobed blonde who has been his friend for over 30 years! Friday was work on car night. One of our friends came over to help him. I curled up in recliner as my knees were killing me and wanted to catch up here and do some work. That was my intention! Instead my DH woke me up at 930 and sent me to bed. I had been asleep since about 730! Guess I needed the sleep. Yesterday my knees still were bad in spite of ice, rest, and exercises. Was going to take some Tylenol, but every bottle we had expired in 15! Figured I would take some at work, nope, bottle empty! SMH! To add insult to injury, I tripped over a rug...grumble.... Thank goodness my husband was in front of me so I fell into him and not the massive shelves. Stopped and picked up Tylenol and KT tape. Came home, iced, Tylenol, and taped the knees. Rested until grandson's party. KT tape is an amazing thing! I fell about 3 years ago at work and tore the meniscus in both knees, jarred shoulder, and broke a wrist. Physical therapy and KT tape helped. There is arthritis there too that showed up in the MRI. Usually not an issue, but sometimes flairs up. I need to SLOW DOWN!!!! We get busy and I am trying to accommodate our customers and end up getting hurt. SLOW DOWN!!!! Luckily, the knees only flair up occasionally. Thanks to you ladies, I know I can be strong as I get older. Now I just need to do it!!! Today is laundry and paperwork. Also baby shower at noon. My oldest couldn't make it, but youngest daughter going. I am now the driver as SIL is moving horses this morning, and may be late. Could be interesting as I am taking my MIL, my niece, and my nephew's wife. None of them are really talking to each other.....long story.....Nephew's wife says she will just follow....really?!? grow up! Surely you can ride in a car with folks for 20 minutes. SMH. Oh well. To each their own.
Sorry so long. As I said has been a crazy week. Some comments I wanted to make and sorry if I don't remember who made all of them....
Machka - You are doing a wonderful job! You continue to inspire. It is so hard when life throws us major curve balls, yet you are doing it with grace and courage. Thank you for the updates and know you are always on our minds and in our hearts.
Heather UK - I am still reading. One of the things I find so fascinating is your memory of so many details. I am not that person. It takes others remembering things to help me find mine. Some have stuck in my mind, but others are filed much deeper apparently. Thank you for sharing and I will write a review when I am done.
I love all the pictures! The flowers remind me that Spring is around the corner. The babies are beautiful. The "children" growing up so fast.
For those working on this journey, I too find that at over 50 weight can be slow coming off especially when actually close to target weight. When I had my babies, I dropped 50 lbs in 6 weeks and had a great flat belly, but I was19 and 21yo. When I did family day care and originally gained 25 lbs while at home, it melted off when I went back to being a waitress (27yo). The dedication it takes to lose at 55 is a lesson in patience and determination. Wise choices and movement, but the older I get the harder it is to find the time and energy. I look forward to hearing from this group of STRONG women to keep me motivated. If they can do it, then so CAN I!
I often wonder how it is that in an age of modern conveniences, there seems to be less time.....I remember my mom always cooking dinner, sewing clothes, doing crafts and keeping the house (okay us kids had the chores and my mom never caught up on laundry , yet she still had time to visit with friends, write letters, send cards, go to bank, etc. That is the dilemma I face constantly. I am so tired at the end of the day, that just thinking about having to cook or clean intimidates me. We often end up with eggs for supper or eating out. Thankfully lunches are easier. DH eats romaine with cheese and crackers. I usually eat Tuna either on romaine with beans and tomatos, or even with just crackers or on bread. He is the plain meat and potatoes, I like veggies, yet often feel too tired to cook.... Will start trying one new recipe a week. Lord only knows I have all the appliances- microwave, timer on oven, crockpots, instant pots, and air fryer. I know I can do this.
Sorry again for so long, but wanted to let you know what is going on. I think I am going to implement the 5 minute quote this week. Spring is always crazy in my life with work, but I have great customers and love my job! I CAN do this!
(((HUGS))) to those hurting or just feeling down
High fives to those celebrating and succeeding!
Love to all!!!

Kylia - What if you cooked up a batch of protein on Sunday and used it throughout the week in different ways. We grill up a huge batch of chicken breasts and I just freeze them in portions. I might use them one night for fried rice (with cauliflower rice), another night with zucchini noodles and marinara sauce, another night just heated with steamed veggies, another night to make soft tacos or tossed on a salad or in a frittata. I usually have cooked shrimp, chicken and pork loin frozen in meal sized portions so I just pick one the night before (or morning of if I forget) and thaw it during the day for dinner that night. You could also cut veggies on Sunday to use throughout the week in the different ways you plan to prep the protein each night. I cut the veggies for my lunch salad on Monday for the entire week (or two weeks in the case of the purple onions). I have found that if I chop and vacuum seal the lettuce it actually stays fresh for at least 10 days (I tried it when I went to visit the hub last weekend and it was fresh when I got home, yeah).

Heather, got your book yesterday and already a third through it! I love your style of writing. I couldn’t write that well if my life depended on it. Well done girl.
It might just hit 50 today. Yesterday was beautiful and warmer too. I had the door open while I cleaned and was so nice to air out the house after a very long winter.
Almost 9:00 and just relaxing in bed getting caught up. Guess I’ll get up and get moving. My jewelry is saying “Terry come work on me”. Doing it keeps me off that ankle too.

In fact, as I went digging through our fridge and freezer to find out exactly what I had to work with, I discovered a massive amount of veggies. So I've been adding veggies to everything people have made for me or that I've made.

sgm: Count calories and move more. The weight will come off slowly. I followed MFP's recommendations when I started & set myself up to lose a pound or two a week. Some weeks it was a couple of pounds and occasionally a little more. Other times I'd go for weeks on a plateau and then drop several pounds "overnight." Be patient with yourself. I chose portion control as my primary strategy so I measure the amount food I eat and calculate the calories. (I can eat the same foods I feed my family.) I use a food scale and measured dishers to accomplish this. The food scale is one I bought fro Amazon for a reasonable price and it is a champion. Dishers are used by the food industry to get consistent portions onto the diner's plate. They were more expensive. You'll get lots of support here. Welcome! You'll see the acronym CICO around here fairly often. It stands for Calories In Calories Out. :flowerforyou:
Becca: Congrats on your good progress! Perseverance is an excellent word! Sorry your DDIL is having health problems. I hope it will eventually work out okay & she will be able to get pregnant.
Michele: Where do you get Bob's coupons? All of our local stores carry Bob's Food Mill products, and their headquarters are about 35 miles from here. I've been thinking about visiting there. DH is sure doing better since we've made the switch to gluten free for his foods. I still eat regular bread but otherwise eat the same things that he does.
Heather: Sorry to hear about the cystitis. I hope the cranberry does the job asap. :flowerforyou:
We're making progress with DH's gluten intolerance. We had a lovely crab salad for dinner last night and no difficulties with salad dressings. We had some on hand that meet each of our needs. I brought home a container of Thousand Island dressing, and chose to use my own homemade dressing instead. It was good. DH has a commercially available dressing that is gluten free and tasty. I've got some ideas about making my recipe garlic free and will give that a try next time around. I've made some garlic infused canola oil that might do the job well enough that both of us can enjoy it. As I understand it, it is the garlic solids that cause trouble. DH did just fine cooking with garlic infused olive oil that we made.

Very relieved to find this group. I've maintained fitness for 14 years after last baby. But that baby has been sick for 2 years and. . . out the door went fitness. Now at 49.5 yrs. I am amazed at how hard this is to lose the 25 pounds gained (I'm 5 feet tall so for me, that's a lot of weight). Is this typical? Characteristic of my age? I've lost 1 pound in 12 days--slight panic! I've got the calories counted, exercise added, and 10,000 steps in place--geeze this is tough? Is this normal? The last time I had to lose weight was after last baby! I was 33 years old--49.5 is not the same! Advice greatly appreciated.
everybody is different. just keep on keepin in you'll get there3 -
