Tere: I think your natural hair color is going to be stunning and beautiful. I'll bet your DH will think so too, when you've got it all grown out.
nbs_mom: Yoga is a great choice. It has the power to transform your fitness and that makes a huge difference in health & happiness. It did that for me, but it took a little time. I've been taking yoga for several years now and feel better and stronger because of it. Welcome to a great group.
alisonlane: Welcome! :flowerforyou:
We have a bright, sunshiney day here! Yay!!! I plan to go to yoga and then to see if I can find garlic chives. I'll need to taste one to see whether I want to grow them. More to the point, I need DH to taste one and see if he likes it.

Tere - so glad you're back! And yes, that sounds like me.
Machka - My husband's shattered wrist a year ago came with a nasty scrape on his temple, and it was only good luck (or grace, if you lean that way) that I didn't end up going through exactly what you are now. My too-vivid imagination drew for me exactly the journey you're now living through, and I am so terribly, horribly sorry that you or anyone must walk that path. Words are such weak things to express how much we think of you, and small comfort, I know. I hope that just being able to say what needs saying here is some help--we're here to listen, and will reach back. Being able to simply come on here and say that I suck as a nurse, and am too impatient to deal with someone who needed my patience so much really helped keep me from saying those same things to him. So glad to see you were able to go back to work, and that your work and school communities are helping you.
Regards,
Lisa

Some of us took a wildflower hike through the old growth forest on our campus -- off trail. Lots of fun and very beautiful. Sorry the images are so big and that the last flower is blurry.

Heather so sorry to hear this!!! Keep the faith my friend! Also, I knew who the "difficult" friend was from the pic before I saw you identify her. LOL

I need support to lose the 10 frustrating pournds I can’t eliminate! Started a yoga membership. Need support for that too!
Welcome! I love yoga. I practice at home on my own during the week and then attend a class on Sunday afternoons. It has made a big difference in my flexibility and outlook.

I agree, Tere! I loved the mental picture of yourself you painted.
I let my hair grow out, and I get so many more compliments about it than I did when I was coloring it. Except from my husband. I know he hates it. I have kind of embraced getting older, and he is still in denial. I don't mind being the age I am (57). Our age has given us a lot of advantages, and like my 11 year old likes to say, "You are experienced parents!" Ha!!!

Still in shock. We went out for a walk in the sunshine. Bluebells out in the lanes.
Waiting to hear back from the estate agents about what to do going forward. Everything up in the air.

Heather Kirkgate market pics are beautiful, even the ones without you. Victorian ironwork?
Welcome Tink! I've been a member since 2008 and while I've only lost 14 lbs in 10 YEARS, I don't consider myself unsuccessful as I'm eating healthier than I ever did before. While my activity level has decreased with retirement, age and recent plantars fasciitis, these gals inspire me to train with weights (Strong Women Stay Young) tho' I'm not quite ready for kettlebells. Speaking of PF, what's helped me is: BEFORE getting out of bed EVERY day, 10 times each: rotate feet in circles clockwise then counter; point left while flexing right, then reverse; and describe alphabet with big toe. Somedays print, some days cursive THEN when arising place food S L O O O W L Y on floor. After walking around a bit, stand on edge of bathroom scale on balls of feet and gently stretch first left, then right leg by lowering heel. repeat 5 times with semi straight leg, then again with flexed knees. While reading this thread, roll frozen water bottle with sole of foot. Finally threw away my flat slippers and only wear slippers/yoga sandals with support around the house. NEVER walk around barefoot or in socks only. Oh and compression socks seem to help too! If it gets bad, I have gel supports (thanks Heather) but so far haven't needed them.
It is important for caregivers to schedule self care time. Wisdom and compassion abound here, when all else fails, there is always pip's boot
Evelyn sounds like a brilliant solution. Trust your son will understand and accept.
Rebecca you are ROCKING that gym! Think the body makes cholesterol regardless of how much your food contains. Believe your exercise will help bring cholesterol down, I get my Vit D from lemon flavored Norwegian Cod Liver oil (preferring food sources), know you are limiting carbs so triglycerides will come down too. Truly sounds more like cha-cha forward. Is your middle son's wife's name Delilah?
Lanette "nice older couple 40's 50's" gosh! they sound YOUNGER to me Lanette Thought the United Bretheren were a little more plain and simple in their attire. Easter Hats? Exciting!
Kim con VERY gratulations on paying off that loan!
Penny thanks so much for the blackbird sounds. Count me among the mystified.
Wendy "'difficult' people ...in our life for a reason" you are so right. "example... of what NOT to be like" resonated especially strongly... the beam in mine own eye... ;}
Machka Making "Yeah" sounds? Oh that DOES sound hopeful! Sometimes I wonder whatever is in the mind of God or if Got gets nightmares too. You and your husband both continue in my daily intentions.
Kay how scary, who knew an abscessed tooth could cause shaking all over. Wish oral surgeon could get it out sooner, you just know it is poisoning your Dad. Well done on the food choices and supplements amidst all the stress.
Lisa you are one admirable lady, to take on the ex's debt with your new husband and to so honorably discharge it. Brava!
Tere in RVA "...cause of his hair thinning on top" You made me snort my tea! Sauce for the goose...
pip "last ride of the season"? Isn't the weather getting nicer?
Okie your food tips weren't long winded but inspiring! A wonderful reminder of how planning and prepping can combine with flexibility for healthful variety. Thank YOU! And congrats for achieving that low edge of normal BMI. Wowser!
Welcome nbs_mom and allison from NJ. Allison 50 is just the lower age suggestion, many of us here are 60+ and a few are 70+.
Time to meditate, veg/fruit prep, then off to T'ai Chi and the shopping wars.

Heather - oh my word! Kate is right - the way real estate is handled over there is horrible! Are the realtors all on anti-depressants? I would be. Sorry to hear a monkey wrench was thrown into your - and other's plans!
Kelly - Joaquin is a darling!! Thank you for posting those photos!! That smile is a real day-brightener
Barbara AHMOD - we were Evangelical United Brethren which merged with the Methodists, so a bit more modern that the UB's that were a step away from the Amish I guess. So we got to wear the little hats and Easter outfits instead of brightly colored home-made dresses.
When my grandmother moved to the "retirement home", she complained about being around all those "old people". She was a very young 90. I guess age is all in our heads, lol.
I got another compliment at the doc's office today. The nurse said "roll up your sleeves" and I made a comment there was a lot of flesh to pick from for the allergy injections. She said, "it's mostly muscle" and asked if I lifted weights! I told her YES! and gave her the 5 minutes sales pitch on Strong Women Stay Young! And emailed her the websites.
Amazing what 10 lb dumbbells and 10 lb ankle weights can do

Machka ~ Contined good thoughts and prayers for both you and your husband.
Kelly ~ I love soup too. When I make a pot of beef, chicken and vegetable soup, we eat on it for days. Just gets better every day.
Kay ~ How scary for all of you about your dad. So glad you all found a cause. What a cute little baby to join your family. And love your little ballerina.
TereWilliams ~ Hello…Good to see you here. I would love to quit dying my hair but at least the blonde color I use mixes well with my white roots.
Lanette ~ Hydrogen peroxide is very good at removing stains. I love my new Shark Rocket that has the spongy like thing that helps pick up bunches. I have the stick kind not the heavier one.
Evelyn ~ When my sister’s daughter got married, she hired on of the attendants from mom’s nursing home and her husband to take mom to the wedding and look after her. That worked out very well.
Heather ~ So sorry about the buyer pulling out. Good photo of you and your friends.
Joaquin brightened my day!

Hi ladies,
Kim, congrats on paying off a loan. It’s a good feeling.
Hellcatt, welcome to the group.
Machka, sounds like things are progressing slowly with your DH. Good for you going back to work and moving forward. Glad you had a friend there to help. You are so strong but remember to take care of yourself. (((HUGS)))
Drkatie, how scary for you. Glad to hear your dad finally got the treatment he needed. Cute kids!
Lisa, Snoopy happy dance for you breaking the 20lb mark!
Tere, I think dyed hair makes you look old. Everyone knows your hair is really grey. I love beautiful grey hair. It’s so classy. Look at Helen Mirren.
Nbs_mom, welcome and you can do it. Stop by often as we are a pretty chatty group.
Allisonlane1+1, always room for one more. Welcome. P.s. this is a 50+ group so that includes any age 50 and older. There is no cut off for this group. I’m 63.
Lanette, glad you are inspired to remove the stains. I have one on a carpet that I’ll try the hydrogen peroxide.
Heather, how disappointing that the buyers puller out. I’m sure there is another one right around the corner. Hang in there. sorry your friend is so difficult. Tell her it is an individual thing and to do some research on the Intranet for what she is looking for. Pass it along, don’t engage and change the subject. I find sometimes it helps with people like that to just keep shooting questions back at them. it wears them down.
Rita, beautiful flowers. Snow here all day today. So depressing.
Kelly, Joaquin has the best smile. Make me smile!
DH stress test came out fine which really was no surprise. Just have to wait to hear what the specialist says. And the neurologist for circulation in his legs. Good thing he has never smoked and doesn’t have high blood pressure.
DD doing better and went out with a good friend today. Just what she needed.
I finished a chainmaille bracelet except for putting on a clasp. Not too pleased with how the glass pearls look. Not enough contrast with the silver to really show up. I think I may try it with colored glass beads.
Well that’s about it for me. Terry in VT

Heather ... well that just sucks...
Sue ... Will continue to pray that Connor stays well until his scheduled surgery
Kelly ... precious, precious little boy!!
Tere ... I have been going gray since I was in my early 30s and now at 55 my hair is very much gray. I was a blonde as a child and then a medium brown as an adult ... the color I have now is hard to describe ... but I get stopped by strangers who tell me how beautiful my hair is! My gray suits me. YOU will rock gray!
Machka ... as others have said there are no words ... heartbreak and shattered dreams ... continuing prayers because 1. I know what it is to be devastated and 2. because I believe in hope
Rebecca ... I struggle with this cholesterol thing all the time. I'm taking statins because my doctor insists and because I am not at my ideal weight. My triglycerides are naturally very low. I intend to remove myself from statins when I am at a healthy weight. Research is showing that high cholesterol is not necessarily a bad thing ... our brains NEED cholesterol. So my advice is to get healthy, eat healthy and don't worry about numbers. Hugs.
Today I crossed off routine test number 1 ... mammogram that I was 5 years late on ... not recommended as I have had issues that required biopsies. Happy to report all is normal.
Younger son (student in Nashville, migraines, anxiety issues) called to tell me he has lost more weight ... now 83 pounds lighter since August 2016!! WooHoo! AND he has been developing more confidence in his chosen career path which has resulted in less headaches. He won't say but what are the odds there's a girl??

(((Heather))): I am so sorry about the snag in your real estate sale. I hope it is resolved soon. :grumble:
Felicia: Beautiful wildflowers! I'm pretty sure I recognized trillium, but not the others. I wish I knew what all of them are. I also love yoga, and just had a class this morning. Not our regular teacher, but she is new to teaching yoga and doing pretty well.
KJ: That little guy sure put a smile on my face. What a cutie!!! I take it that he is wearing a Horned Frogs shirt. With a smile like his, he could wear just about anything and get a big smile from everyone who sees him.
We received a shipment of 6 clear food grade storage boxes from Amazon. Each holds 64 ounces. I used 3 new ones today and have 3 left for the future. We have all sorts of new food products, from gluten free pie-crust mix, to tapioca flour and corn flower. We've already got storage containers for our gluten free pastas. The specialty flours come from Bob's Red Mill, a specialty grain mill. I can by Bob's Red Mill products in any of our local grocery stores. We're both trying to make this dietary change into an adventure rather than an ordeal.

Heather, how disappointing, just when things were going along so nicely! Sure hope that another buyer will be found quickly!
Machka, {{{HUGS}}}
Beth, how nice that your son's health issues are being resolved! Could be a girl, could also be that you are inspiring him!
Kim, congrats on paying off the loan! That's gotta feel so good! We got into some financial difficulty shortly after our first was born, I wasn't working and while hubby had a decent job, the wages weren't too exciting. I got a job shortly after child turned one, I worked evenings and weekends (hubby was Mon-Fri dayshift) and it was so nice to be able to get rid of the debt and get some money in savings!
Katla, good attitude towards the new way of eating!
KJ, could Joaquin get any cuter?? lol
Felicia and Rita, thanks for the photos of the flowers! and Rita for the pic of the dog with shoes (too cute!)
I colored my hair for a short period of time, it was more of a pain than anything else. I have decided to grow old gracefully and if someone else doesn't like, well too bad! Fortunately, hubby is also growing old gracefully, so it's all good! It does help, I have to admit, that at almost 60 (in July), I still don't have a lot of grey, but it will happen eventually! Hubby is quite grey, but at least he still has hair! (although it is getting thin on top.....)
Terry, good to hear from you! I agree, colored beads will probably show up better. Such a lovely bracelet tho!
Thanks for the feedback regarding mil, bil and son's wedding. Haven't heard from son yet, but I really hope he realizes that it's the best way. I don't really want to spend his wedding day looking after them, I want to be able to enjoy myself too! The scale isn't being as cooperative as I have been hoping it would be, but I'm going into town on Tuesday, going to take the dress and bra with me and see what I can find to smooth out some of the lumps.
That's it for me, for now anyway. Welcome to the newbies, hugs for those needing them and congrats to those celebrating!

Tere: You go girl. Silver and fabulous, that's your future. I got off the hair dye over 10 years ago and have no regrets. I do invest in products to smooth the frizz and enhance shine. My hair is down to the middle of my back.
Katie: So glad that your father is okay. Beautiful girls in your family.
Kim: Bravo on attacking the debt. Have a super-fun trip. Should be beautiful in early May.
Kelly: Joaquin is going to be a heartbreaker.
Lanette: Woot! How nice to have your 'guns' noticed. Keep up your great weight training. Wish I had your touch with seedlings.
Heather: I'm screaming expletives alongside you. Keep the faith -- another buyer will come along. Your difficult friend wears her pain on her face. Could spot her right away. As of this morning I am 50% through your book and savoring the beautiful writing.
Machka: Continuously sending you and DH waves of healing energy.
I wanted to get DH out to a movie or museum today, but it's turning cold, dark and stormy. Instead we have bean soup in the slow cooker and Turner Classic Movie channel on. Happy, albeit lazy, Friday here.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

My lunch! The flavor of a bit of spaghetti sauce with spinach, and cottage cheese is delightful to me! Great volume but the plate was only 331 calories.
Good job me!
Today we went to UPS store, the bank, the laundromat, the commissary, and Safeway! Oh and the library. I got a book called " The Okinawa Diet". I read it a long time ago, and loved the concept. They live to be 100 there, and it's so interesting. I watched a program about it, and the reporter was met by a man that looked to be in his 50's but he was 80! Then he said come meet my father. And he was 100 something! It's a mindset, not just dietary.
I bought some orange juice with vitamin d in it. I am eating well, so that's a good feeling!
My thoughts are on my middle son's wife. She's dealing with some health issues. I'd appreciate prayers for her. Thank you ladies.
Rebecca7 -
Thank you all for the good wishes. I hope I can sleep tonight. The whole thing could just collapse if we can't all come to an agreement to give our buyers a chance to find another buyer. I'm sure the estate agents are working at it and gnashing their teeth. We will be devastated if we lose the house in Hove. Oh well, we still have a roof over our heads.

Lanette you exceed me in the leg weights, I just moved up to 9.5! I bet you are all muscle and strong! I sent the Strong Senior pdf to my MIL but I don’t think I sold it well. I started doing the sit/stand exercise with my arm weights - a PT I know said it is similar to squats with weights but safer for me. I hold both weights and rest them in my shoulders when I sit/stand.
KJ That grandson of yours is over the top adorable! Thinking about you a lot, and admiring you tons.
MichelleI too have a brown thumb. I gave up trying with houseplants a long time ago. Luckily I don’t particularly care for house plants, so it worked out.
Except when my husband and I started living together. That was funny! We moved in to our loft apartment and he bought one almost treesized plant (Ficas tree? About 7 ft tall) and two other huge house plants. I told him because of my brown thumb and my lack of interest in house plants they were his to take care of. I think that shocked him - and I am certain he expected me to take care of those plants.
But after I made it clear they were his responsibility he insisted he could do it. Less than a year later and one dead tree and two dead gigantic house plants later that was the last we ever saw of house plants in our environment.
He often bemoans that we can’t have houseplants. I Just smile and tell him he is welcome to take care of the houseplants he wants to buy! That shuts that down!
Evie I think your idea was inspired for the relatives who will need minding at the wedding. I hope your son is on board!

A generous relative made a few sessions with the Pilates instructor possible for me. Just had the first session and unfortunately it turns out I have both Hypermobility in the legs/ ankles AND the tightest hamstring she’s ever seen in a client. Sigh. That means no custom Pilates exercise routine, all the sessions will probably focus on a stretch regiment for me. Oh, I’m just griping - - I wanted more challenging work for muscle growth, but I feel like I’ve been held back in kindergarten.
My Kidd Kirby is not doing very well, and I’ve been taking every opportunity to cuddle with him and lightly groom him that I can. Today’s picture is him in my lap with Jackie Kane in the background reminding me he likes attention too!
