WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR APRIL 2018

Penny - I'm sure you won't regret it. Often money is a sign of how much we feel valued. You have better things to do with your time.
Heather UK XXXXXX2 -
Did 5 minutes on the hula hoop. You would think with my big hips that it would stay up longer! Then held my plank for 3 minutes, then the extremepump class. After class counted the money at the church, took the deposit to the bank then donations to the soup kitchen.
Kylia - thanks for the update about Joyce. There is no way on this green earth she could "fade" away. So glad you told her so. Next time you are talking to her, send her my best.
Felicia - never had a migrane so I would be totally freaked out. Rey is probably right.
Oh, this weather. Supposed to be in the 50's today and tomorrow, then in the 70's Wednesday. But that'll work since it's raining today and supposed to rain tomorrow. The rest of the things for the pool will be here today so we can start repairing it Wednesday.
KJ - wish I could post a picture of the cutting board, but it's still at the place where I was hoping they'd be able to stain it. I'll probably pick it up from them on Wed. My only concern about using playdough would be being sure I'd gotten it all out before I stained it. Not sure if I can get a toothpick into the engraved parts to be sure I'd gotten all the dough out.
Pajama party! Count me in. Hey, maybe we could have a virtual pajama party!!!!
pip - doesn't the rain on the summer bike hit your butt?
Felicia - I understand how you would want your son to dress up for his prom, but it's his life. I don't think he needs his hair cut. He's one handsome guy. His partner is SOO cute. What a ride they must have had! I don't really care for his partner's pants, but that's his choice. Some of the most wonderful people I know are trans. Vince doesn't agree with someone being trans, but I don't have a problem with it. The interesting thing is that I'm the Catholic. Like I said, to me I'd rather see a happy couple who stays married for a long time.
Rebecca (I'm so tempted to call you Becca) - I'm so sorry for your hubby. I prefer to take as few meds as possible. But I know that there are certain meds that I must take, like the Lamictal, the Prolia, calcium suppliments.
Barbara - I'm afraid that I don't have a steady enough hand to dip a toothpick in stain. I'm thinking of staining the grooves mainly because in some areas of the grooves it's darker than in other areas. If I stain the groves, hopefully it'll all be the same shade of brown.
KJ - I'm sure you've experienced this. When Play Dough hardens (how long does it take to harden?), will it all come out of the grooves? Or do I have to run a toothpick or something like that to make sure it's all out?
Jess flies out Saturday. I can tell she's very stressed. I would be too, to go to a foreign country. True, it's only for a few years. Maybe I wouldn't have a problem doing it if I were in my 30's and didn't have any other obligations (like kids, a house). I don't know if she's thought of all the things she needs to do to have her car registered in NC. Well, she'll be back in Aug. Even tho technically you are supposed to register your vehicle within 30 days, not everyone does. Saturday will be bitter sweet for me. On one hand I'm very happy for her that she's finally realizing her dream. On the other hand, I'll miss her. But I know that it isn't forever (unlike Bryan). She wants to store some of her furniture here. I guess we could do it for a few years. The rest will go into storage.
LHarris - of course you can join. Welcome!
Talk about stressed! We're going to go up to VA tomorrow probably early in the afternoon, help Jess load the truck on Wed, then come back to NC on Thurs. We need to go up in my car. Jess will drive her car here, Vince will drive the truck, and I'll drive my car. I know Vince likes to take his car, but I honestly don't feel comfortable driving his SUV on the highway. Not like it's a big thing, at least I don't think so.
Not sure I can get exercise in tomorrow. The gal who is going to watch the cats will be here between 6:30 and 7. I need to go to the Post Office and then the Green Room before we go. Maybe I can get something in after she leaves.
Terry in VT - good luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you
Need to go pack (clothes and food)
Michele in NC
No cuz it’s not raining anymore when I take it out for the season1 -
Machka having a loved one going through a long recovery process is a marathon not a sprint.
I find I am grateful for small indications their is progress in their healing. I am grateful for things that others might find offensive like I was just glad our DS came for Christmas even though he was rude and anger. Just having him be able to be there was a gift.
I am glad you are finding time to take care of you as you and DH find your way in the healing process.

a few reasons. one, i can afford to have more than one bike
2. the winter bike is heavier, has a bike rack in the back, has fenders on it to keep the rain from getting on my butt. the back bike rack allows me to put a pannier (kinda like luggage that clips on to the back
3. the summer bike, is alot lighter, it's a road bike, no fenders no bike rack to weigh it down so i wear a backpack now. the summer bike is just built for speed, the other has got disc brakes and is more for the elements, has more lights on it too.
When I lived in Canada, I had a summer bicycle and winter bicycle (and a few more for good measure) ... for similar reasons.
You can't have just one bicycle.
Here in Tasmania I don't really need a winter bicycle because I'm not snowbiking anymore or riding through slush etc., but I have one with fenders and wider tyres with better grip I tend to use in the rainy weather here.

Hi ladies,
Barbie, love the gate. Can’t wait to see final pics.
Ginger, can I join your family and go on the “sister retreat”. I’m like a sister. Sounds wonderful. What great memories you will have.
Machka, I think it is so important what you are doing. Talking and repeating is the best thing for him right now. (((Hugs)))
Sharon, (((Chico))) What a good grandma you are. (((Jheri))) You have so much on your plate right now. Take care of yourself while taking care of everyone else.
Heather, I definitely will comment on the book. Hang in there with the cystitis. Plenty of water too. When I had mine I also did the pills (less calories).
Kylia, what a time you are having. Like you said, this will pass. Hang in there girl. ((Hugs))
Penny, good for you making a decision that supports you and what you need. I’m sure your next adventure will be as rewarding. I agree with Rye.
Michele, can you post a picture of the board. My DH works at a hardware store and is an artist. He may have an answer for you.
Another nice day today and in the 60’s! YEAH!
Terry in VT doing well with her eating again today.
11 -
Terry first off, AMAZING quote!
And, hardware store! Is it just me or does anyone else simply love the smell of a hardware store. The cut wood the oil’s and other smells I just walk into one and want to breeze deeply. Simply reading the words hardware store in your message made the smell come alive in my memory.
———————
Speaking of not being very girly, as I did earlier, my favorite type of store in the entire universe is a hardware store. Oh I don’t mind the Lowe’s and the Home Depot’s but I’m talking a good old-fashioned dirty floor sawdust in the corner of the section where they cut the wood, aisles of mechanical gadgets which I can only dream of figuring out what their use is: hardware store. Not very girly, am I?
I’ve always been pretty dichotomous this way, I look very sweet and girly on the outside. But inside, in many ways and interests I’m just like an 11 year old boy. Lol. I always chose to play with LEGOs rather than Barbies!
Rye the master procrastinator, here in Texas8 -
Patsy what a sweet face Katie has!
Felicia holding good thoughts for Wednesday's appointment. Attagal.
Terry likewise hoping the MRI shows something easily treatable without surgery.
Machka (((hugs)))
Sharon prayers for Chico. Poor guy!
Welcome LHarris
So now it's decision time... meditate? get on grubbies and play in yard? or [shudder] call the IRS... bleah
Wishing all a lovey Spring day,

Prom I never went to my prom. I was ‘banned’ as punishment for a prank I pulled in school.
LBGT I grew up with an uncle who was drafted but denied because of his orientation. Back in those days, tendencies were denied. He was even engaged to a women once but gave in to his real life. He almost went through the surgery. But backed out of it. He is now 74 years old and in a relationship with the same man for the last 30 years. So, I’m good with anything! I am very opened minded. BUT not my DH.
Bad mood lately, in pain from upper back arthritis which affects all my insides and makes me feel terrible. Depressed and just want to sleep but fighting it.
This too will pass.

yup, you know what i mean, my husband has 3 bikes, a wooden one for summer, an old Klein and the winter bike. i just need two, i'm good with that, there's one in the garage, i don't ride, it was my 1st real bike, found it was way too big for my body, but at the time i didn't know any better. i got measured for the 2 that i own now.2 -
I've been to the doctor to get antibiotics. Couldn't face dealing with the kids for two days feeling under par. Hate having to take them, but I was beginning to feel a bit off. Grateful now.

Rita in NM: I found this online:
Recent scientific studies of people with various types of arthritis show that regular yoga practice can help reduce joint pain, improve joint flexibility and function and lower stress and tension to promote better sleep. ... “Yoga is definitely one option for people with arthritis.
Yoga Benefits for Arthritis - Arthritis Foundation
www.arthritis.org/living-with-arthritis/exercise/workouts/yoga/yoga-benefits.php
I think taking a class is better than trying to do it yourself at home unless you are already an expert. The social perks of a class are a second benefit. Yoga classes are full of nice people, both women and men. The one I attend now is mostly people who are 50+, but there are a few younger stay at home moms, too.

Meditated then called IRS (doing knee etc exercises. while on hold).
Woo HOOOOO! Refund was NOT a mistake, forgot I paid estimated taxes the first two quarters. Halelujah! Now I'll be able to pay off the Discover card bill and still have a little left over to share with Joe.
Halelujah!
Now if we can just keep the DDS and MD expenses down to budgeted levels ...

Good morning all! It is too be a sunny day here on the Oregon north coast! Yea! We have begun the yard cleanup. Since we live out in the country, we have our own small forest and yard as well. Much to do and I love it at the beginning of the season and tire of it about midway through the summer. We only plant flowers...no veggies etc. I do have a herb garden in pots.
Sue: it is me with the 2 year old labradoodle. We groom her ourselves. She is very suspicious of strangers. She is the sweetest and most affectionate dog we have ever had. We spoil her beyond all reason. That’s what happens when you don’t have any little grandchildren. (One grown grandson that we never see). We have a grooming table, clippers, nail clippers, hair conditioners, brushes, the equipment is astounding. But we groom her monthly with almost daily brushing. She gets a spring short haircut and it is grown out by fall. She loves to play in the mud and she can dig! She could bury a small car in the backyard in a couple of hours! We all love our creatures. Our Katie is our delight.
I am still in the process of getting to know everyone. This is a large and diverse group. Wonderful!

Rita's- a bad girl! lol well, maybe a "woman with a past". SO...what kind of pranks did you pull to get you banned from your prom?!? A couple of friends and I let cows in the school. Thank God this was before schools had cameras everywhere.
Penny- Call it a sabbatical; you don't have to decide, if you are done, right now. Semi-retirement? Hope you find peace with taking some time to find the right fit!
Heather- So happy you went to the doc. I was going to suggest it; but I figured you were like me, and only went if it began to be a concern or a major inconvenience.
Michele- Well, when the kids get play-doh between the leaves of my table; it usually takes a day to dry hard. Then the bits fall to the floor when I pull the leaves apart.
Well, I have a couple of interviews set up for tomorrow and Wednesday nights. One is looking for care on the days during the summer and would take the spot that opens in the fall. The other is looking for weekend days. So far, no one has called about evenings. Until I fill up, I will have ample time to myself. I just need three more full time kids to meet all of the financial obligations. (house payment, insurance payment, and medicine for DH). Four would give me $$ in savings or for travel. lol I spend a LOT of time lately trying to make deals with God. Pretty sure, that doesn't work, but it's how I tend to operate.
Oh well, naptime almost over and I have to get some stuff printed. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Oh man, headache went away, but sore from too much sleeping. I'm such a lazy butt. Went to sleep at 5pm last night, and woke up at 8am this morning! Husband and I are trying to fit in here, but right now we feel "off". I am telling myself, time is all we need. Adapt, and adjust. With every place we visited, whether it was the laundromat, or our pizza place, or at the grocery store, we felt like we belonged. People knew us. It will take time to get that back.
Ok I have something funny to admit to.... I haven't shaved my legs in months! There I said it. My leg hair is cool though!!! It has a pattern to the way it grows, like a cheetah. When I wear my Capri pants, I feel my hairs move with the wind! It's liberating. Ok, I know I'm an odd bird, and dear husband said last weekend, " wow your leg hair is getting long"! But he didn't say anymore. Please tell me I'm not the only gal that doesn't shave their legs......
Well I've decided to look for old ladders for my Sun room. I could either buy two and connect them with a plank of some sort, or buy two and just have them slanted in corners. It's an easy solution to getting the maximum places to put plants, and not have lots of tables and such.
Take care my tribe of Powerful Amazon Women!

Patsy: My daughter has a Golden-doodle & he is both huge and sweet. He has the curly coat of a poodle and they keep him clipped. It helps them to keep the more of the outside dirt from being brought inside the house. Our neighbor also has a Golden-doodle and she is very sweet, but she didn't get the curly hair. She looks like a taller, more active Golden Retriever.

Rye, I love them too. Also, office supply stores. Unfortunately, my DH has a Masters and is working there. Did I ever tell you all that a few years ago I was making jewelry out of hardware items like screws, washers, and ceiling thingies? They were fun.
Rita, hope you feel better soon.
Heather, glad you have something to help you feel better.

OMG, Terry! Those are so fantastically fun you would even tempt ME to wear jewelry! WOW!
And Hardwearables!!! What an awesome name!
(Yes, office supply stores are fun too. lol)
Btw, when you get your internet store front up, please IM me the site, I have some friends (no judgement from me, but not my scene for sure) into the more kinky side of life who would find your current jewelry line irresistible and I’d like to send them a link.
(Also, I’m kinda like your DH. My doctorate really hasn’t been worth the paper my diploma was printed on, and I’m currently mostly a receptionist. Ah well, that is life.)

Rye ~ What did you get your doctorate in...just curious!
Terry L ~ Cute earrings.
Rebecca ~ This will make you feel better. I shaved my legs last week for the first time since last Fall. Must admit though that it really doesn't show unless I'm in the sun light. Never have shaved above the knee. Hope this isn't too much info.

Michele: Best wishes to Jess as she embarks on her new adventure. Hope you'll make many visits to see her.
Penny: I understand your feelings giving up teaching, but once you've cut the cord, I'm sure you will find other rewarding ways to fill the time and your sense of purpose. ((hugs))
Terry: LOVE the Hardwearables. You are so creative.
Machka: Continuing to send you and DH healing energy. I'm glad that you are getting out to exercise.
It's a cold, wet and gloomy day today. Taking the opportunity to declutter, clean and finish Heather's book. My review is posted on Amazon. Whenever this storm passes, I'm off to get groceries.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Terry - LOVE the earrings! I would buy those.
For the first time in ages I've been doing a bit of comfort eating. Nothing too terrible, but I didn't feel like going out running in the rain today after our big supermarket shop and my emergency visit to the doctor. (I phoned them from the supermarket when I realised I was not feeling at all good). Consequently I'm a bit over on my calories, as I was yesterday with no exercise visiting my friend in London. Won't be exercising tomorrow or Thursday either, apart from walking around after the grandchildren in Hove. Oh well. I'll catch up later. I was just half a pound away from returning to maintenance, so it's a bit frustrating, but I've got the rest of my life to make it up once I'm feeling well again.
We are setting off at 8 am tomorrow so I won't check in until later.
Managed to get a couple of "survivor" charities to review my book on their websites.
Love you, Heather UK xxxxxxx8 -
Carol Actually it a JD so, a law degree. I tend to say doctorate because I only practiced law for a short time and it was a very specialized sub field (intellectual property law) and quite honestly know no more about the law than your average person. But people hear Law degree and tend to want my advice on their will, or their law suit etc. And I’m not qualified to even have an opinion.
As I do not hold a legal license in any state to practice law, I tend to just say doctorate to avoid the questions.
I liked law school intellectually, and went to one of the schools that concentrated in theory, not the practical applications. I was way out of my league in the law environment (I’ve never been good at putting theoretical anything into practice) and constantly lived in fear those two years of committing malpractice as I did not know what the kitten I was doing and the practice in the early 90’s law firms was to drop the youngsters into the deep end without any guidance and those sharks who lasted would be made partner.
The final straw was my review after my second year of practice. After a bit of praise for my well written and researched law briefs I was told flat out that they were inadequate and always had to be rewritten before filing. Because, and this is a direct quote, “you are insufficiently nasty”.
I thought on it, and realized one of my life goals was to remain in an ‘insufficiently nasty’ state for the rest of my life. So I quit shortly thereafter.
The law degree has been a hinderance to employment ever since. Was quite possibly the worst decision in my life, going to law school.
Rye, who hopefully remains insufficiently nasty, in TX12 -
Rye ~ What does it mean to be insufficiently nasty? I admire any one who is able to acquire such a degree.4

I keep meaning to have a t-shirt printed up: ‘insufficiently nasty’
But then I forget. Lol7 -

Heather - I started your book today. I am amazed at your detailed memory of childhood experiences. Even though I lived a continent away, we shared so many things during the early-mid 50's except for your experience with your dad. The ice cream brick at Christmas was a special treat. My grandparent's puffy satin comforter and the vanity with the 3 sided mirror. The hedge smelling like cat pee. You make it all so real. I hate to put it down to fix supper.
I can't wait to re-read it Want to hurry to finish it but yet, I don't!!!!
