Carol, my Mom admitted to me once that she stopped shaving. Her hair was very fine, and you couldn't even see it. Same as in her underarms. I don't know if it could have been from medicine she took, or what.
You are a lucky duck. Me well, I'm gonna just turn into Mrs. Sassquash! You know the state of Washington is their birthplace!!
Today husband and I walked the neighborhood for an hour. Found a field that only the homeowners can go into. Hopefully when we acquire a machete, we can access it directly!

Hello ladies: Sunny and dry again today, horses are out in the back pasture enjoying the grass. Doing well so far on eating but will be eating out this evening. One of the restaurants here is donating profits from this evening to a homeless shelter for families in Everett so we will help out by eating there. I went to the YM and swam laps for 25 minutes and then did a 45 minute water exercise class. That should help with the extra calories.
Patsy - How short do you go on the spring cut? That sounds like a good option. Nessa is not very good yet at being brushed. She likes to chew on the brush instead. She has yet to find a person she does not like. Hoping to get to a puppy kindergarten class soon.
Becca - Your posts always make me smile. I am sure you will fit in soon island girl.
Heather - Hope you continue to feel better.
Rye - I think you should get that t-shirt. I am glad that you are insufficiently nasty.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -
Dana- love the wild dogwood picture. Always love seeing them in the spring.
Penny- I thought when I retired I would be lost but I have found many things to occupy my mind and my time. Good luck to you.
Played golf today in 80 degree weather. We had a great time and I actually finished 18 holes. I need to get back to playing regularly but it takes up one of my yoga days.

18 holes! Wow Sue! Part of golfing is lugging around a bag, and walking the course! Good on ya! As long as you don't frequent the 19th hole too many times!I

Just popping in to connect with all you wonderful ladies. I just love you all, but today in particular, these made me smile..
Insufficiently nasty.... sounds like the highest of compliments to me.
Bad girl can’t go to prom.... love it!
Rebecca and her hairy legs....
Those of you who have to have multiple bicycles....
I love hardware stores, too. If it wasn’t for the one on magazine street in New Orleans, Ari Jo would still not have a bed.

Sue: Katie was wiggly and still is when I brush her. I give her some sort of chewy treat to keep her busy while I brush. She is used to it now and looks forward to the treat. Our idea of a summer cut for the Kate is about two inches. She is mainly an indoor dog so I don’t worry about her becoming chilled when she gets wet. She is in and out. Wet and towered off. For us, the grooming table was the best investment we ever made. The legs will fold up so we can sit on a stool in front of her and we (husband) both work on her at once. It is done pretty quickly. Lots of scissor work on my part. The vet says the big thing is to keep the mats out of their fur. Our vet has a labradoodle of his own. His is always pretty as a picture. Katie is a little gangster! Muddy and loves to find disgusting thing to roll in! They are really wonderful dogs.
Patsy5 -
Rye, I agree. Would rather have you insufficiently nasty than being a cut-throat lawyer. The 2nd oldest profession, lol. I too love the old hardware stores. I can still see/smell the one my dad used to take me to in our small town when I was a kid. Wooden bins with different sized nails and nuts and bolts. Stuff hung on the walls so high up you needed a ladder. Rough floors that were splintery (so we little heathens had to put on our shoes!). Pipe smoke and cigars. Varnish worn off the wooden counter. Gigantic register. Sto Matz ran it and wore an ancient denim jacket. Thank you for the flashback!
Rebecca - you'll settle into the Island life before long. Where did Lee find that painted rock? Were you down by the beach? Where are you located on the island - north, middle, south? I used to go to Oak Harbor and visit sheep friends and also was in their 911 Center once on a tour - also in Oak Harbor. For me, body hair has grown sparser (and lighter) as I've gotten older, or maybe I just don't give a rip anymore. - lol. Guess if I had to wear skirts and pantyhose and I could see those hairs bunched up in there it might be a different story.
Suebdew - Good for you playing 18 (not 19 - naughty Rebecca! ) holes of golf! 80 degrees is just about the perfect weather for it I think.
Terry - hot d*mn you are talented! That hardware jewelry is just gorgeous! Do you still have any for sale? I love long dangly interesting pieces like that.
OK ladies, I was sitting in the waiting room at the doc's office today and picked up an old WebMD magazine. There was an article called "The Long Run" about what the latest research showed to live past 90. Here goes....
Surprising that there were a high proportion of folks over 90 with the "Alzheimer's plaques" in their brains who died with normal cognition = no dementia. Also, virtually none of the risk factors for younger seniors applies to this age group. History of hypertension, history of high cholesterol, using statins....which are all risk factors in younger people appear to protect people in their 90's against Alzheimers rather than raise the risk. Also, they said with every advancing decade through our 70's, 80's and 90's, overweight stops being a risk factor and actually becomes a protective factor for longevity. HHmm...both of my grandmothers lived into their late 90's and were "stout". Not fat, just thick through the middle.
What else - people who live longer get 200 to 400 mg of caffeine a day which is 2 to 3 cups. Drink alcohol twice a week. 15 minutes of walking a day is good, 30 minutes helps more and 45 minutes helps the most. More than 45 - no additional benefits. Doing anything other than sitting on our duffs watching TV increases our likelihood of living longer (and being healthier).
That's a few noteworthy things. It was the March/April 2016 issue, I haven't had any luck finding it online yet.
Have a good evening ladies!

Hi friends. You all look like you are hanging in there.
Our weather has started to warm up, but tonight it's cool and rainy. It's a nice, soft misty kind of rain, perfect for the yard and our new tree. I hired the boys next door to mow and trim once a week and edge once a month. They are both almost 2 years post high school and have a nice little business, very professional. So while I don't mind mowing, I didn't want to be tied to it every week. So I hired them for once a week, and if the lawn needs a second pass, I'll do that myself.
Still struggling with the car situation. Don't know if I told you, but I made DH get a new battery for his old Saturn before he went away. We didn't know how old it was and I didn't want to be stuck with a dead battery because I'm supposed to drive it and the jeep a couple times a month. Well wouldn't you know it, that damn car is dead with it's new battery. It won't charge, it's parked right up against the jeep so you can't really get around to work on it from the front, and it won't go in neutral when it's dead, so there's no moving it out of the garage! I thought about pulling the battery and taking it to the battery place, but if that's ok, I'm no better off than before. So after several friends have tried different things, I'm just going to have it towed to a car place close by. We have AAA so it will be free and I won't have to screw around with it anymore!
Had an MD appointment and got blood drawn for B12 (gets depleted on metformin) and vitamin D (I was way low last time and take supplements now). Then I went on a clothes-buying spree! I've been buying on line from Coldwater creek and Land's End, and now I went to CJ Banks and Friday I'm going to J Jill. I haven't had any new clothes in ages!!!!!
OK I'm off...lots to do yet tonight and it's already nearly 8. I've gotten over 7500 steps today already. Not much compared to Barbie!
Take care all, Meg from Omaha where we have snooze-weather!6 -
Felicity Your son & friend look like they were dressed just right for their prom.Happy
they had a good time.Wonderful they have loving family around them. How sweet of Grpa!
Someone asked if our carpet layers wanted a trip away. They do all floors, from hardwood, carpet
vinyl etc,but the son is buying his Dad out & will be single owner in June when Dad retires.
Almost thru getting bedroom back to rights.Cleaned everything & tossed a load of
sewing books & quilting magazines.Sewing no longer interests me.
Have new summer blankets for beds. Now if the weather would co-op.we can hope.....Trish Oh6 -
Rye, & Lanette , I did the hardware jewelry a couple of years ago and sold some at a local craft show. No future plans to have a website for them as I’ve been concentrating on the chainmaille. I’m sure I have some left over and I will check and see. Anyone interested in seeing what I have left just [send a private message] and I’ll send you pictures of what I have left.
Shaving...The hair under my arms and on my legs don’t really grow since I had a hysterectomy. Maybe 2 leg hairs and I shave under my arms about every other month. Don’t miss it at all.
Had my MRI today and it went well. Only had to go into the machine up to my waist which was nice. I’ll get the results next Tuesday. I so hope I don’t have to have surgery. Went out to dinner before and had a very unsatisfactory meal. The place we went to used to be good but not any more. I was so disappointed as I saved most of my calories for the day for the meal.
We’ll I’m beat so heading to bed and book.

Penny, for most of my teaching career, I expected that I would keep teaching until I was so old that they forced me to retire, then one day when I was 58 years old, I realized that I'd had enough and made the decision to retire. I could have made more money if I had continued but there was a feeling that my quality of life would be improved if I weren't teaching any more. I have never regretted the decision.
The weather was beautiful today for the neighborhood cleanup day. There was a big dumpster and men and trucks to help gather yard waste. My walking friend and I hauled many loads of stuff from her yard and mine. It was quite interesting to watch the parade of women ages 70+ pushing wheelbarrows and hand carts full of debris to the collection. Jake stayed home to coordinate with the fence builder and wait for the rest of the fence to be delivered. He finally got a phone call to say that it would be delivered tomorrow before noon. The holes have all been dug. We went outside in the afternoon and sat on the patio for awhile, then I started pulling weeds and Jake got out the lawn mower. I think we'll both sleep well tonight after the fresh air and exercise.

Good evening!
Rye I had to laugh at insufficiently nasty! I thought: that must mean not nasty enough!!
I worked for an attorney in administration at TxDOT for 5 years. Very interesting; I would type and proof the Opinions for different employment cases where employees were fired and they were appealing their case. I don’t think they do that anymore. There were a lot of changes and I now think HR handles it. There may not be a chance to appeal. I went over to Audit later on. I got tired of that with the stress so I quit. I was going to retire but instead 5 months later I went to work at Texas Parks and Wildlife. That was a fun job. I worked in 14 budgets and did purchasing for he marketing dept.
Becca I shave my legs very rarely. When they itch; gotta shave. The pits-maybe 1x a month. I’m about ready to give it up too, but when I get a pedicure I think I better shave my legs. Who wants to give a leg massage to someone with long hair on their legs!!
My friends daughter was medi-vacced from Ft Bragg to Walter Reed Medical Ctr. in Bethesda, MA, today in a C-130 aircraft with a dozen nurses on board taking care of her. Sandy, her mother is physically and mentally exhausted for it all. It’s been 25 days now. I don’t remember if I mentioned it but she (Lisa) was in a terrible motorcycle accident and she lost one of her legs and broken bones. She’s had 4 surgeries just this past week and still in a coma.
She’s a career military NCO and recently returned from Afghanistan. Very crazy about her horses and pets.
Please say a prayer for Lisa and mom Sandy and their family!
Thanks,
Dana in Arkansas

Thanks Barbie and others who chimed in. I'm not actually retiring. Rather the opposite! Teaching these courses meant tootling off to Stockholm for a week at a time 3-4 times a year, which in turn meant I couldn't have a regular 9 to 5 job. I'm thinking a few years on a salary will put me in a better place for retirement.
The Scandinavian systems provide retirement benefits for all, but in Sweden, the amount is based on your lifetime earnings in Sweden. So for people like my husband and me, who worked half our lives in Sweden and half in Norway, the total doesn't promise party-party in our old age. The Norwegian system puts greater emphasis on what you earn during the last three years before you retire.
Terry - I loved the jewelry too! And Rye and Terry, you can count me among the hardware store enthusiasts. Maybe it comes from my grandfather. He had a marvelous cabinet out in his "shop" up at the cottage in New Hampshire. It was about 20 rows of long, narrow wooden drawers with 15 in each column. Each drawer had a white porcelain knob and tacked to the outside was a sample of what the drawer contained: screws, washers, erasers, rulers, ball-point pen springs, empty thread spools, sawblades, keys without locks, locks without keys... I could spend hours looking through those drawers.
Machka - I think of you often. Sending strength!

Good Wednesday!
My doggie alarm barked at 5 am. Emptied dishwasher, started work paperwork, caught up with ya'll, now to get ready for work.
Shaving- I am the one that tends to not shave all winter except before massages , but new shampoo has to stay in for 5 mins! What else to do for that time?
Terry- love the jewelry! Right up my alley!
Adding Lisa and her mom to prayers.
Ladies- keep smiling cause you are loved and make the best choices for you today!

No change on scale this week. Better than adding. Too little sleep, water and movement.

On shaving - daily on pits. I epilady my legs so less and less grows back as the years pass. I need to do it every 3-4 weeks.
I didn’t feel great last night and was asleep at 7. Unfortunately, that meant I was up at 1 AM. I have been up since then. I have done two loads of laundry, got my 5 1/2 miles in, and have been working for almost 3 hours now and have knocked out the hardest part of what I needed to do today for work. Now I’m taking a break to have some breakfast.
Hugs ladies!

Meg sounds like it might be the alternator. The battery is more than likely fine since it is new. I agree just park it in a spot that won't be a problem and leave it. You have other priorities. Sorry you have this to deal with too.4
