Barbara AHMOD - yes, I generally put row cover or plastic over the front of the plants' "incubator" especially at night when it gets chilly. Oh, and that photo was misleading. The lights are generally only 1" above the plants, nearly "kissing" them. Keeps them from getting leggy. I lower the lights as much as I can - they have little chains - then stack the little plants and their heat mats on boxes to get them up close and comfy under those lights which really don't put out any heat. Warmth on the bottom, light on the top. Water a lot but let them drain. Class dismissed, lol.
Need to get walk in then start getting soil mixed for potting up tomatoes kissing the lights!

Hi ladies,
Trish, cute kids!
Karen, a new baby, how wonderful.
Heather, where can I get your book?
Kelly, you are super woman. Your family is lucky to have you be someone who is willing to put in extra. But to keep going, you will have to take some time for yourself. I’m like you with plants. I only have one at home which is a Christmas cactus. I’ve had it for years and it is quiet big now. I water it maybe 3 times a year.
Lisa, love, love, love the bed. We need a head and foot board for ours.

Keep sending those pictures of flowers ladies. Still snowing here.

Karen from VA in CA: What a wonderful grandbaby! Wow!!!
KJ: You have a good plan and a great attitude about your DH's situation. I think you are a courageous woman and a strong one. :flowerforyou:
nbbaby: Welcome to a great group. Don't wait to join. Start now! We've had members from all over the world. Our current group is American, American living in the arctic, Australian, British, Canadian & a New Zealander. Machka has most of that covered all by herself, but there are also others. You'll fit in very well. :flowerforyou:
The painters still have trim work to do, but the plastic is off of our windows. We can see and go in and out of any door we want. Yay!!!
Since DH has been put on the FODMAP diet, we've making all sorts of cooking changes. No gluten, for one, and only the green tops of onions for another. We can use garlic infused oil, but not fresh garlic or garlic powder. It is something of a challenge for cooking. We've been using chives bought in the store in place of all other onions. Unfortunately, they don't store at all well in the refrigerator; they wither and dry out. I have chives growing in my flowerbeds, and just moved them into large pots to get them above the level of the dog's "watering service." (TMI) At the moment I have two clumps in pots and I have one more pot available, so I am planning to put it to work, too. All I need is to put already purchased potting soil in the vacant pot and add chive plants.

Thanks everybody!

KJ you are such a positive forward moving person, I really admire you. I’m sure you have done so, but make certain you are charging enough. So many responses so quickly makes me guess the demand for quality odd time care is high. So don’t undersell yourself.
I admit I’m worried about you, KJ, that sounds like a lot more than I’d be capable of taking on. I wish I could actually do something, but I am thinking of you.

Morning, all...
Congrats to Karen and welcome to Phoenix, and congrats to Katie for your niece's new arrival!
Love the pics, Trish, what cuties!
Just finished reading the article on Tammie Jo Shults, the pilot who landed the Southwest plane with only one life lost when the engine exploded. I know every pilot's heart sang with joy for this one, and women pilots in particular--who deal with an awful lot of flak on a daily basis. My year as a flight attendant gave me an awful lot of respect for them and what they do. I had one male passenger turn around and get back off the plane when he found it was an all-female crew, no joke. Maybe this will help change people's perspective a bit.
And speaking of amazing women - KJ, you have my utmost respect, but as someone else already said, don't forget to take care of you while you're caring for everyone else. Do I think you can do it? Yes, I absolutely do--you have more energy and drive than most people I've ever met. Nonetheless, it's a lot of pressure being the primary source of financial support. That's been me for the last six months, and it's... discomfiting. Really looking forward to Corey going back to work here.
Katla - have you tried wrapping the chives in a damp paper towel in a plastic bag? Helps them maintain their moisture and not get so wilty. My husband grows his own by just dropping a couple green onions in a bottle of water on the counter. They grow like mad, and you just keep topping up the water...
The house is coming together, and I've done six or eight loads of laundry - the washer-dryer were delivered last night at 7 p.m., as well as the fridge and small chest freezer, so laundry this morning and shopping this afternoon to get things stocked up. All the boxes are placed in the area where they're going to go, so now it's just unloading... sorting, figuring out why the heck I dragged some of this stuff from Texas to North Carolina and then Arkansas.
Corey's taken our son, John, back up to Fayetteville, so I have another half hour or so before he'll drag me off to do a bunch of shopping.
Love y'all!
Lisa, happily settling down in Arkansas
Which reminds me, Dana! It was good to see you post. Hopefully we'll meet up sometime, now that we're both in the same state.7 -
Well, my labs from yesterday's blood tests show my cholesterol is high, and my calcium is high...what? Having a blood test to check my thyroid. And I gained .4 lbs..... Uugh!
Trying to get it all together but seems like I'm spinning out of control.
In Whidbey.

Lost almost 2 pounds overnight. Must be water as I was under the weather yesterday. I haven’t been myself lately. Sleeping too much, headaches, just plain down and out.
I am drinking my water and getting my fruits in. Most of my veggies and about 3/4 of my walking however.
Love all the pics!

Brava Captain KJ, Brava! The hardest thing will be to stick to the new discipline of DH and DYS picking up the slack. With my man-child, the expectation must be made clear in no more than 3 bullet points. Then I must be playful/determined-but-not-angry when pointing out when unmet. Otherwise, he will let things slide just to see how long I can stand it. If I don't nip THAT in the bud while I can still smile, I end up shrieking then feeling guilty, or just doing it myself. Neither desirable. Can you schedule in a break at the end of summer? Something to look forward to and time to recoup? And as for keeping your man-children on task, would they accept a sticker calendar board?
Seems like men need some way of keeping score to do their fair share, and some kind of reward beyond the satisfaction of basic maintenance. Not telling you what to do, just what works best for us.
Lanette "Warmth on the bottom, light on the top" sounds like a loving prescription for more than just seedlings
Katla "watering service" is why my herbs are in pots on the porch and not in the ground. Hope to stake out a pfree spot when they get too big for containers.the "getting started" quote.
Lisa love Corey's grow-your-own green onion tops. Will try that soon as I sign off.
Rebecca Sorry you're feeling out of control. So inspired by your two gym circuit days, keep on, sister!
Rita I misread "getting my fruits in" as "getting my fun in" and thought "Now THAT's the ticket!
Is there an app that can read Kindle books aloud? I might like to listen to Heather's book while moving around. Otherwise will use reading time as motivation to tackle the laundry mountain and today's vegprep.
Time to shower, meditate, dress to shoes and be ready to take Tumble to the Mini Pet Mart by the time Joe gets back from his errands.
Continued healing thoughts toward Machka, her husband, Conor and everyone who needs.
Love you all,Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.

Today we went to the Barbara Hepworth gallery in Wakefield. Excellent sculpture and absolutely fabulous healthy food in the café.
Another temporary exhibition was a stunning light show which you walk through. Crazy weird!
Then we set off for Leeds. We wandered round the covered market and the amazing arcades. Beautiful.
Went back to my friend's for a cup of tea, but I soon made my excuses and left to walk back to the hotel. Needed some down time. And to talk to you lot.
Eating at a 'small plate' place tonight. Quite nearby, thank goodness!

Hi friends. Amazing pictures.
Yesterday my students and I carried and distributed 13,000 pound of food. And no that is not a typo! That is from weighing the truck before and after loading it! We had a food pantry for refugees. We had to take all the food from the dock to the gym (in a school) to hand it out, then many of the students carried huge boxes or bags of food out to peoples' cars or other transportation. I was totally exhausted after four hours of that.
Check it out: http://www.wowt.com/content/news/Catholic-Charities-help-refugees-make-Omaha-home-480194063.html
I'm the silver=haired lady getting interviewed nearer the end.
Just a quick pop in, my days are going to be getting more reasonable soon! Take care Meg from sunny Omaha!10 -

Did Kathy Smith’s Lift Weights to Lose Weight DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a DVD on the rebounder
Wendy – They are definitely bees. Great – bees go to water supplies. And where did I find them? By the pool! I was hoping if anyone could help me, you could.
Karen from VA – Ok, I’m officially in love. How do our members manage to have such adorable kiddos?
Kate – I’m the same way as you. I also enjoy going to the gym. For one thing, for the socialization. The gym I’m going to right now doesn’t have much in the way of socialization. But sometimes I do need the machines and this way I don’t have to have these big machines in my house. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been a member there for very long.
KJ – yes, it’s me who is very good with silk flowers!!! I even managed to kill a cactus once! I remember Vince had a (I think it was a wandering Jew) that was supposed to be very hardy. He told me when to water it (he had to go away on business). He even poured the water out for me so I couldn’t overwater it. What happened? It died. I swear, all I did was look at it. Please take care of yourself. It’s good that you’ll be doing something you love, tho. I, too, hate what you have to do but admire you for doing it
Katla – the dog’s “watering service” reminded me of The Big Bang Theory where Raj was eating a tomato, exclaiming how good it was, until he found out how it was fertilized.
Heather – I’m going to download the Kindle app onto my tablet and get your book. That’ll give me reading while I’m at the Green Room. Many times I need something to read
Stopped at the Salvation Army since I haven’t been able to this month since I’m counting at the church. Got another shirt for exercising. Hey, $3 versus like $15 at the stores. Works for me!!! Then stopped at Aldi, first took this cutting board Denise gave me at her shower so that they can make the words etched into the wood darker. Why she got it this way is beyond me. Newcomer bowling tonight
Meg – what a wonderful thing you do. Those smiles!
Better post this before I run out of time! Have a good day everyone
Michele from NC
