Hi my friends. I had a lovely weekend. DD#2 and her BF came for the weekend. They cooked dinner both Friday and Saturday and took me out to brunch on Sunday. Brunch was an early mothers day gift from her BF. That was a really nice treat.
They went to a movie Saturday afternoon and dropped off the Easter basket stuff at DD#1's house. Her BF was nice and said thank you, but DD#1 yelled at them for not calling first. No thank you, nothing else, so they left. She hasn't even thanked me and there was a large check in there for them. I finally sold all the rentals so I gave both girls some money. I just don't know what to think, but I'm not reaching out to her again. I'll send the appropriate birthday etc cards, but that's it.
It is gorgeous here today so I hope to get a walk in. I lost 5# during April, which was my goal. So although I'm still way over my lowest, things look to be going better now.
Well I need to write an exam, so I'm off. Enjoy the day and be well. Meg from sunny Omaha.8 -
It's not my nature but I'm bummed. Every morning I start the day with a long walk with Ella. It's a pleasure and today as I was getting dressed to walk, my husband said he wanted to use my car. He had left his windows down in his truck and the seats were all wet. So....... I said sure but I'd ride with him and Ella and I would walk home. Well, Ella started happy whining about half way to town. She anticipates our walks and was anxious to get out of the car. My DH started yelling...."shut the f**k up Ella" . On and on about my ****ing dog. I asked him to stop the car and I got out and walked with Ella. She was shaking and I was pissed. He's a curmudgeon and it's hard. He blows up and gets upset says inappropriate things and then wants it to be over....but I'm upset..... this pattern drives me batty. He CAN control his anger........when he wants to control it.
Machka, loved your update about your husband's connecting words....and so wonderful to see your activity update. I admire you and think of you often.
Barbie, I'm so glad I stumbled and found this group. Thanks for making it happen. I'll leave in a couple weeks for summer in Alaska but will think about all you gals when I'm gone and will reconnect in the fall.
It helped me to vent about my morning.... Have a good day gals.

Hi ladies,
Lisa, indulging is a good way to rest your mind.
Rebecca, I was your grazing buddy yesterday. You’re right, tomorrow’s another day.
Dana, good for you staying within your goal when you went out to lunch with your friends.
Wendy, glad to hear you are fine. My heart goes out to your student accomplishing the exercise. She will remember that always.
NYKaren, sounds like your place is coming together. You will feel better once everything is settled. I like to wait a little while after I move before I do things like hang pictures. I like to get the feel of a place first.
Heather, so happy to hear you are feeling better. That’s a hard way to meet maintenance weight but congrats anyway. Great idea about reaching out to that magazine. Hope it is fruitful for you.
Okie, your events sound like a lot of fun.
Machka, you brought tears to my eyes when your DH said “my wife”. I’m so happy to hear things are still progressing. I’m sure he is much more comfortable with the tube out.
Kelly, yeah grandma camp! Jaoquin’s hat is adorable. I think it fits his personality.
Allie, you have a very busy day. Glad to hear the inspection went well.
Kate, congrats on being a “loser”.
Pip, love the picture. Makes me want to crawl back into bed.
Rita, and US!!!
Rye, have you tried soy bean. I had a couple of tablespoons of the dried ones on my cereal in the morning and it cut my hot flashes in half.
Meg, how disappointing not to get even a thank you. You are wise to pull back. No one needs that abuse. Snoopy dance for reaching your April goal.
Betsy, what a hard way to start your day. Verbal abuse is like being punched with every word. You were wise to get out of the situation.
Still had snow this morning when we left for work. So very depressing. But suppose to get warmer as the week goes on. I’m anxious to get out in my yard and do some clean up. We also have to finish painting the porch this year. That’s my main goal for this summer, but I’d also like to rip up the carpet on the stairs and stain the steps to match the wood floors. So much I want to do. Hope surgery isn’t going to interfere with my plans. We will see tomorrow. I’ve had surgery before and not been this nervous so not sure what I’m so nervous about this time. I’m just really hoping to not have to have surgery (my co-workers are too!).
Well that is about it for now. I think of you all daily and am so glad I found this group.

Good morning.
We had a nice weekend. It was cold, but I managed to work in the garden for a few hours and hubby and I puttered in the greenhouse -- always a warm spot to be on a chilly spring afternoon. We went a little crazy with tomatoes again this year, after telling ourselves that we would tone it down. Our children just roll their eyes.
My oldest has an interview for a job Tuesday afternoon. He's not feeling really positive about it because it's not something he would normally want to do, but at least it would be a job.
My weight has been holding steady even though I haven't been diligent about my diet. I've been on a potato chip kick for a few weeks now. Thankfully, I've been handling it okay, but I need to let it go.
Someone approached us this weekend about buying our pick up and 5th wheel. Boy did that get us going. We started shopping for new trailers/RVs -- we were going to go with something smaller but the older boys put up a minor fuss. I guess they aren't yet ready to stay home when we go camping -- so we will still need a 5-6 person unit. That lead us to thinking about a suitable tow vehicle, and then I started a search for the perfect electric car. And so much time wasted. But no matter.
Should be a relatively quiet week at work this week because students and faculty are preoccupied with final exams. Then in another week, students will be gone, and the week after, faculty will be gone, and then summer hours begin!!
All the best to everyone on this Monday morning, a little too cold for me.

Well had an appointment this morning. Being that my calcium is high, my vitamin D is low, the doctor wants my parathyroid scanned and the parathyroids that are overactive to be removed. I guess it's a simple surgery. I am also getting scheduled for a colonoscopy. Some of the symptoms of hiperparathyroidism is that your joints ache, you are more often, tired, foggy brained. Pretty much a lot of what I feel!
So the doctor was happy I'm taking vitamin D tablets, but she wants me on a ketone type diet. Drink more water, and take in less sugar.
My brain is tired, my stomach hurts (from eating too much yesterday most likely), and processing good leads me to the bathroom. This day is getting better and better!

I approve of this statement. For that reason, my hubby and I have one set of sheets. Wash, dry, and immediately put them back on. He thinks I'm a sheet snob. I say, AMEN!

KJ - I agree with the person who said you could be his mum! What a smiler!
Really cold today here, so DH didn't go to the cricket. That is a big deal. His friend has gone home as well.
I did 200 bonus calories on the recumbent bike.
I've booked lunch at the local pub with my friend that I had to postpone yesterday. It's next Monday, which is a Bank Holiday over here. The day before is DH and my 15th meeting anniversary. Can't believe it has been so long.
He is buying me a new fleece jacket to take to the far north of Sweden on our cruise and I have got him a new Under Armour vest top for his exercising. Plus posh biscuits and chocolate truffles. I've ordered the North Face jacket in large, but I may have to exchange it for a medium. I want to be able to put layers underneath it and it is very slim cut. Marine blue. I am slim, but have a wide back. I hate having to send things back, but it's free.
We haven't decided what to do for the day.
Haven't heard anything new on the buyer's situation.

Finally sleepy so time to sign off and snooze a few hours. Tomorrow will make bi-monthly trek to Trader Joe's in Medford, a 3+ hr drive but worth it for the things I can't get here.
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.
Yep. One of the best things about moving here is that there is a Trader Joe's about 30 minutes from our house and 10 minutes from my work. I try to go at least once a month. The last time I was there, I bought a seasoning called "Everything but the bagel." It's the toppings from an everything bagel. I also bought gluten free bagels, which are generally nasty, and some cream cheese, and for the next week, I had half a bagel with cream cheese and the spice, liberally sprinkled, and it almost felt like I was eating a yummy everything bagel. The boys love their island salsa.
Enjoy your shopping trip!

Good day.
And he was a bit chatty this morning (still mostly random phrases), so I asked him his name, and he kind of almost said it.
The nurse was standing there, and said to him, "OK, who is she? Introduce us" (and he pointed at me).
My husband did a "This is" gesture with his hand and said, "She's my .... (and then he fought with it for a moment) ... my wife!"
Yes!!
This brought tears to my eyes! This is so encouraging!

Machka I am pleased to hear of your husbands recognition of you. I am sure he will start retaining this information for longer until it is permanent. So glad he is progressing and his brain is healing and re-connecting all the pathways again. Please tell us every little thing because we are all hanging on here waiting for news. LOL (I also tell my hubby about each tiny sign of progress.) Wendy6
-
Machka so happy to hear about your husband's recovery! Still keeping him and you in our prayers.
Heather - take care of yourself! I hope you are feeling better!
My three week Keto challenge is over and I have lost 8.8 pounds and my husband lost 13.8 pounds. My husband had a great NSV yesterday he was able to fit into a size 34 pants. Getting ready to do my exercise then we are going to go to the new Avengers movie!
Have a great day everyone!
Mary from Arizona6 -
Machka, I have skimmed a month's worth of posts just to see how your husband is progressing. It is so great to see he has executive function! Saying MY WIFE is so great!6
-
Machka - I got goosebumps reading about your DH! He must have sensed we were talking about him and sending him "good vibes". HUGS all around!!
Terry - SNOW! Is this normal? We are so warm here I might be planting tomatoes and squash in a couple weeks. Normally wait until June 1st.
Heather - a new fleece jacket sounds great! Wow, won't be long you'll be on your trip. I've started watching "Wallendar" and was surprised that everyone in Sweden has a British accent, lol. Nevertheless, I like the series! Kenneth Branagh is one of my favorite actors.
Rebecca - hope the parathyroid scan shows something that is easily correctable. Sounds like you have a thorough doctor to check this stuff out. (((HUGS))))
Rita - are there any gals at the resort/park where you are right now that would want to walk with you? Give you a break from your DH and dogs? I think my family is much like yours - not much time or inclination to connect. We have to make our own "families". And how lucky we are to have this group of sisters!
When I went for my walk this morning, I realized there are a total of 6 "older" retired gals (like me) who live at the end of our private road. One has bad knees but rides a bike from time to time. Other than her and me, no one else gets out and walks, but have talked with me about it. It's just walking, no running. Maybe once the weather gets nice some of them will get rousted at the crack of dawn and join me.
Felicia and Barbara - I get to do my Trader Joes' run this Wednesday. It's about 30 minutes away. I take my cooler and load up. They carry Ezekial bread which isn't GF but delicious sprouted grains. Half the price there than it is here in our little town at the health food store. And then it's in the freezer section. TJ's canned sockeye salmon is the cheapest I've found anywhere and really good- I like it with the bones and skin. Trying to get back in the habit of eating a can per week.
KJ Kelly - loved the photos! Sounds like it was a wonderful weekend (Joaquin fix, how could it not be??) How neat you came home to more prospective kids!
Meg - your DD#2 and BF sound like real sweeties. So sorry to hear about DD#1.
Oh Betsy - what is it with these guys and their grumpies. I wonder what's going on in their heads - seems like the trigger is something that has nothing to do with what they lash out about. I finally got my fill and now call my DH on it every time. So he does it less frequently. It's like with the puppy, I have to be consistent. Get miffed at myself that I didn't think of this 40 years ago. (((HUGS))). Alaska - are you involved in commercial fishing?
OK ladies, time to get crackin.
Barbie - thanks again for keeping is going!!! You are the BEST!

Lanette - Kenneth Branagh is my least favourite Wallander. Not anything like him. There are at least two Swedish versions that I know of that are much better. Have you read the books? They sre excellent. And, by the way, there is NO such thing as a British accent.

Rye My sleep goes better like so many things when I work on it. I did get 7 hours or uninterrupted sleep last night I am working to get 8. The room darkening drapes and keeping the room cool both have helped. Clean sheets tonight. Simple pleasure.

Rita in NM: The D3 doesn't give an instant response. Keep taking it regularly and see whether you think it is helping after a month or so. :flowerforyou:
Meg: DD#2 is a good daughter. Maybe DD#1 will grow up some day. I'm sorry she disappointed you.
Betsy: Sorry your DH is a pill. :grumble:
Rebecca: Thank goodness you are now able to focus on taking better care of your own health. This change in living situations is so good for you!!! It looks like you've found a good doctor.
We went shopping and all the groceries are tucked in their right places. Now I'm casting an eye on our dreadful garage. A bunch of stuff is going to the storage unit if I have anything to say about it, AND a bit of it will be donated to the senior center thrift shop.

Heather - I was looking for another British detective series to watch on Netflix and came across Wallander. First time I'd heard of him - having been from a Swedish series explains why the actors are speaking English even though the setting is Sweden. Haven't read the books, but will look for them.

Snow gone by the time we got home. Usually it’s spring by now. Raining here now. Supposed to be in the 70s Wednesday and Thursday. Ya hoo!
Just had to strip the bed as the dog got nervous and wet. Agh. Really, 7:30 and washing the only sheets and matress cover I have. King size sheets are so expensive. Guess I’m going to have to invest in another set. It’ll be 9:00 and I’ll be making the bed. Not what I planned. Not sure what spooked the dog. It’s my DD dog that we inherited when she couldn’t find an apt that would let her have a dog. She was with someone who was abusive so Tony saw a lot of stuff so he gets spooked easily. But we just love him even if he is neurotic. Kind of fits right into our family.lol
Well that’s it for today. See you all in May.

Good day.
But long 12-hour day with 9.9 km of walking, university, meetings, work, and hospital.
Very tired!
And why was it a good day?
My husband got his trach out! At long last!

Yes!!
But he didn't know my name. I guess if you're struggling with your own name, someone else's name might be a mystery too.
The trick will be whether or not he remembers all this tomorrow! But I'll take it for today.

Hi all. I'm 61, Mom and grandmom. Would love to have a group of ladies to take this journey with. This past year has been the most difficult of my life by far. My beautiful grandson, pictured, was killed last May and it has ripped my family apart. I've done nothing for almost a year but sit, eat, cry. I decided a few weeks ago that I MUST make myself get up, get moving, and get control of my weight. I could use some encouragement and support. Hope you have room for one more in your group. Thanks!! Machka ... the news we’ve been waiting for! Praying for more!
NSV ... traveling to pick son up from school and it’s the first time I’ve been hungry while on a road trip... usually eat until I’m sick on candy and snacks. Ordered salmon and steamed veggies at dinner tonight and came within 14 calories of my daily goal.
I had to finally concede last week that my eating habits had gotten out of control. My knees are once again killing me. I had to go buy “fat” clothes. And I’d had enough. So even though my husband ... the ... asked twice if I wanted to stop for ice cream!! ... I stuck to my guns. He has since promised not to behave this way tomorrow.
Catching up on your posts in our hotel ... we decided to only drive 8 hours today and then drive the remaining 5 hours tomorrow.
Beth currently near Cincinnati where the sun feels so good ... and shockingly different then yesterday’s snow in Buffalo6 -

Kay in Texas: Welcome! My sympathy on the loss of your grandson. In this community there is unlimited support for all issues related to health, love and life. Hope you'll continue to read and share with us. Watch for the link to the May thread which will be embedded in a message from Barbie later tonight.
Machka: Continuing to send you both waves of healing energy.
Beth: Self awareness is certainly the key to making changes. ((hugs))
My brother is still wrestling to get sober. He lives half way across the country from me, so I feel utterly useless. I did insist that his GF get herself to Alanon, and she texted me an hour ago to say she was going tonight.
DH joined me in the condo gym today! It's a whole block away, but he doesn't like to exercise in public places, so he has never been in there. However, he's glad he went as he really enjoyed challenging himself on the rowing machine.
I made the SkinnyTaste Southwestern Chicken Skillet tonight. Yummy! Enough leftover for lunch, too.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Welcome Kay, so sorry about your grandson. Be kind to yourself as you continue to go through this grief, that no doubt you will carry with you the rest of your time on earth. I think of it as something you will have to learn to live with, because it's not something you want to forget. Wendy
PS, next time you want to chat on here, you may need to scroll through the final posts to look for Barbie's link to the new thread. We get a new thread each month.3
