Good evening ladies!
I had a busy busy day!
My grandkids are keeping running which is good. We went swimming at the Y again today. I signed them up for a month membership for $24 each so that was less that signing up for a month membership for $59, plus a $75 sign up fee. So they are all good until July 17th! We’ll see if they go home by then or not!
After 10 days I’m finally getting into the swing of things with them.
I leisurely swam back and forth for 50 minutes! Then I held onto the side and did scissor kicks. I’m feeling it tonight!
On the way home we stopped at Sonic and got cherry slushes. The kids did, not me!!
I figured one thing out. It’s better to just make spaghetti and rotini rather than to argue!! Gabby wanted spaghetti and Zech wanted rotini noodles. Geeze!
Sue in WA I’m glad Bandit got home safe and sound. Even though horses can eat while traveling I hate to see them stand so long. Throw him a kiss for me!
Marion Welcome back to the club. I joined up March 2017 and lost a total of 32 lbs. I went back up when my mom passed, but back on track now.
I’m married to a cool guy, Bob and we have a fur baby named Dolly. (Picture attached) I have 3 children from a previous marriage and 10 grandkids! Bob doesn’t have any children.
We both worked for the State of Texas in Austin, retired in 2015, and bought our retirement home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. So, I still want to lose 60 lbs or more.
Heather From all your pictures it looks like you had a wonderful vacation. Love it!!
Sleeping alone Even though we have a king bed, I have to have ear plugs on. DH and I both have CPAP machines and DH has a sound machine going to with frogs, crickets and a bubbling stream. Dolly is in her kennel next to me and she snores!!
As far as being alone, I watch YouTube videos anyway till midnight and beyond so I fall asleep whenever.
Plus I have my handgun nearby. If anyone wants to break in, Dolly will hear them first then I’ll be backing her up!! I think I scared the crap out of DH when we first got married when someone was at the door drunk at 3 in the morning. I grabbed my 357 and was at the door!! He doesn’t care for guns so much, so it was shocking for him to see me jump into action! So it doesn’t bother me to be alone. I’ll tell you a few stories sometime.
Kids are requesting cake! The movie “Coco” is on Netflix.
Good night my fitness palls!!

Tomorrow is my general Navy clinic doctor, and it can't be soon enough. Its a doctor I haven't seen before, so a bit of back pedalling with him or her is needed. I am thinking since I have those overactive parathyroids and my calcium levels are high, my vertigo is connected to that somehow. Vertigo is caused by the CALCIUM crystals in my ear coming out of wack. Being where they shouldn't be. So tired of being tired and achy. My joints literally ache which makes it hard to sleep. I have done the maneuvers stated in the videos with no relief. So I'm hoping for some answers tomorrow.

Hi, I'm awake early. Couldn't get to sleep.Partly because my legs ache so much. Then I was awake again three hours later. Oh well, I've only got to get in a taxi and be driven home. I might even nod off in the car.
DH and I talked a bit over dinner last night about the house business, so that didn't help my sleeping. We are pretty undecided about what to do. When we get back we will have a look at what is on the market, but we are not going to kill ourselves just to move. We are really only interested in about four streets in Hove and not the whole of those. We love the house we live in and we don't have to move. With two houses fallen through our enthusiasm is waning.
Soon our morning tea will arrive and our day begins. Our car leaves at 9.30.
I hope you have enjoyed my little travelogue. It's been fun to share with you.
Much love, Heather back in the UK xxxxxxxxxx11 -
Morning all, not a bad day here in Liverpool. Today DH and I celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary. Exchanged cards and had a cuddle this morning. Not sure where the years went but we are both happy to still be here and fit and well.
HEATHER nice to be home isn't it. Your cruise looked wonderful, I wouldn't mind trying one but DH says it's his idea of hell so I've told him I'll wait until he's gone and go on my own. But he says he's not going LOL
Love the line dancing video, I keep threatening to join in the dancing on the beach in Benidorm but haven't done it yet, maybe when we are there in September.

Kate UK - that was what my DH used to say. I was going to go on my own the first time because I really wanted to go to the Arctic. He only agreed to come with me after I had provisionally booked it. Didn't want to be left behind. Now he is hooked. None of the things he was worried about were true.

I read a comment today from someone on one of the boards that when your goals are set to lose 2lbs per week it is too aggressive for people under 200 because it is less than 1% of your body weight.
What does everyone think of this, is it true or is it an individual thing?
Tracey in Edmonton
When I started with MFP, I set my goal at 0.5 kg (or approx. 1 lb). As it happened, I lost 2 lbs/week ... wasn't planned, but the weight just dropped off. In 16 weeks, I dropped 15 kg, and was comfortably within my normal weight range again.
Then I took a 1-month diet break, and when I resumed, I deliberately went a little less aggressively. I increased my calorie intake by 100 cal/day, and over the next 16 weeks, I dropped 10 kg.
But I wouldn't deliberately set my goal to lose 2 lbs/week. I know how few calories I'd have to eat to accomplish that, and it wouldn't be pretty.

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday!
Marion- Wow! What a crazy few years you have had recently! Welcome back!
Heather- Thank you so much for including us on your daily adventures! My DH is the homebody, but he does enjoy hotels; which makes me think that cruising would be a vacation he could enjoy. Different cultures make him nervous, but I think if he had the comfort of a ship/cabin to come back to each day, (rather than the total immersion that I seek), we could actually vacation together. Otherwise, when financially able, I will just go on my own.
Barbie, Rye, other dancers- I loved the line dance videos. I have never been into country music, but I do like to dance. The line dance reminds me of the first dance I ever "formally" learned...The Hustle (back in the seventies). The majority of my dancing was learned from American Bandstand and just dancing with friends in my bedroom. In high school I was on the pom-pon squad (which was not the cheer team, pom-pon was the dance team). DH doesn't dance, but I love to but do it only when we are at weddings and if I have a good partner. Maybe I need to find a line dance class and go a couple of times. I might be able to even like country music if I were dancing to it.
Audio books- I have tried to do audio books, but I get so engrossed in them that I can't focus on what I am doing while I am listening. I tried listening to a book while I was on a treadmill, but found that I was slowing down. The one series of books that I really enjoyed on audio book were the Stieg Larsson Millenium series. It really helped to have the "reader" pronouncing some of the Swedish words, because reading them; they are pronounced completely different than how they look. (Penny, lol, I do look up a lot of things you write about)
I am counting down the weeks until I have DD and Joaquin here with me. I probably shouldn't because now time will drag on. BUT, four weeks!
Well, it looks to be another humid and overcast day, today. Hopefully will get a walk in with the kids without getting a soaking! We have new bug boxes and this week is Insect Adventure! We have bug crafts, bug books, we will be walking to different "habitat" areas to see different insects. (yard, garden, beach, forest, meadow). Today we will turn our painted foot prints into grasshoppers for craft!

Morning! Interviews/demos are finished! Feeling very excited to have 2 young and promising teachers hired to work in our orchestra program. Even though it makes me feel a little “experienced” I feel excited to eventually hand over the reigns to them someday (5! Years from now)
Too hot to want to eat much so the losses keep coming. I will hit maintenance if I stay the course in July.

Kelly- so if you have never read any of the janet evonovich books, Stephanie plum series listen to One for the money on audio ,get there voices in your head and then you can read the rest of the series regular, when I worked where I could wear headphones I listened to one and was literally in tears laughing when I was listening... Now when I read I have the voices in my head and still Lol when I read them....here with Taliah ,Tracy found a tick on her foot and freaked out..she doesn't treat her dog ,she will.now...2

I agree with Machka above that setting your goals at losing two pounds per week is a little high. The number these people are using is based on research that was done in 1958. That research basically stated that, to lose one pound of body fat, you must cut your diet (or up your exercise burn) by 3,500 calories per week. To lose two pounds, you have to cut your diet or burn 7,000 calories per week more than you did previously. That's a LOT of calories... and by the way, was based on a "typical" man's calorie intake and burn. And... doctors are finally figuring out that, in some ways, there's no such thing as a "typical" human being. Everyone's metabolic rate, etc., is different--and every single human processes carbohydrates, protein and fat quite differently.
This video is one of the best explanations I've seen of how the combination of fat, protein and carbohydrates works in the body. But even that, please note, is focused on losing weight, not maintenance. Effectively, the simplest explanation seems to be that the whole "fat-free" drive had a massive rebound effect as populations were equating the fat we eat with the fat we store on our bodies, when in reality, most nutrition scientists agree now that excess carbohydrates that the body doesn't use for quick energy are stored as body fat.
There is no single answer for a single human being, and your body WILL adjust to what you eat. You can change that through diet and exercise, but it takes perseverance, time, and an ability to convince yourself to keep going through the inevitable stalls.
I've found that FOR ME, and I'm not extrapolating to everyone else, carbohydrates beget more carbohydrates, with a few exceptions. When I eat bread or any form of sugar, I want more. It doesn't satisfy my hunger, it makes me more hungry. I eat oat bran for breakfast every morning, cooked in unsweetened almond milk. That seems to satisfy my body's need for some carbohydrates (and in an unintended consequence, has also dropped my bad cholesterol by 40 points in five months). While I am eating little fat these days, it's more because fat = 9 calories per gram and protein = 4 calories per gram. Essentially, I can eat more food when I stay with higher protein and less fat, so I feel satisfied that way, and am more likely to stick with it.
I'm not saying mine is the perfect diet - it's the diet that's working FOR ME. As long as you're getting the nutrients your body needs, you're fine. The key is finding something that YOU will stick with, and not worrying about whether the scale goes down every day (or even every week).
Sorry - didn't mean to write a book!
Lisa in AR6 -
Kelly, Line dance is not all country music. We dance to pop music (Uptown Funk, Cake by the Ocean) latin rhythms (Fin de Semana, Havana), tango, waltz, and lots of other stuff. We also dance to Alan Jackson and All My Ex's Live in Texas. There is something for everyone.
Tracey, the best food plan is the one you'll stick to. I tried starting at a low calorie level and found that I was weak and shaky after a long walk. I had to be sure to be providing enough nourishment to my body.
Kate, Happy Anniversary4 -
Lisa that is why I am cutting as much sugar and refined grains out of my diet as possible. I am getting my carbs from whole grains, fruits and veggies. Occasionally I will have some dark chocolate to stamp out a craving. I am reading my labels. I am nine pounds down from when I started. Even more important to me is I feel better. I notice it changes what I order at a restaurant. I used to come home feeling bloated and up two pounds. I try to see a menu ahead of time so I can figure a good choice. It helps me skip the breads and anything fried. It has made a difference for me.
I agree finding the diet (way of eating) that works for you and makes you feel healthy is the way to go regardless of what happens on the scale.
Now I look at that cookie, ice cream, cake and ask how is that going to make me feel after I eat it healthy, not healthy? I have a choice.

Good morning!
Loving reading everyone's take on sugar (simple carbs)/fats/protein this morning. I need constant reminders to steer clear of sugar - with our hot weather and me not wanting to cook & heat up the kitchen, my tendency is to grab something to snack on that is sweet and salty.
And good feedback about how much weigh to lose per week and how we are all different. I think that's a reason even though I did lose weight with Weightwatchers, for the longest time there was no differentiation between fat and muscle weight up until a couple years ago. I like MFP much better!
Rye - hope they got the A/C fixed at your workplace.
Rebecca - good luck at the doc's.
RV Rita - loving your Route 66 idea and travelogue. "Running down the road trying to loosen my load".... another earworm.
KateUK - Happy Anniversary! You and your DH are a testament to keeping fit. By the way, do you come from long-lived stock? WOW your steps are impressive!!! Good job!
Heather - welcome home - now you can rest up from the vacation, lol. When I saw the photo of your DH and the showgirls, I thought for a minute one of them was YOU!
Scrapstitching - I think you are right about reading and keeping our brains working well. And, I've read that gardener's brains stay in pretty good shape - constant exercise (weeding, planting, picking) and planning. I think I reach for my gardening books just about every day to identify a new weed or insect or check on when my tomatoes will ripen, etc. Planning and thinking keep the brain cells tuned. Our garden area in early morning is heaven on earth to me.
Time to get ready for town. Hitting the groceries then to the doc's for shots then home. After tomorrow our heatwave will be over - right now have cool air blowing through the house. More heaven, lol.
Have a wonderful day!

Sunny SW WA State3 -
Well, we’re back. Sat I did Walk Your Belly Flat DVD, then Sun I did Total Body Sulpting Workout with Resistance Band DVD, Monday I did 10 Minute Solution pilates DVD, today I did some of the Christie Taylor Solid Gold DVD, and the plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Okie – most times Vince is the one who is VERY punctual. As a matter of fact, he gets upset with me more because I’m the one who many times wants “to do one more thing”. No, perhaps it was his back (although I really don’t understand that), but maybe he really didn’t want to go. After all, he wants to do all the driving so we drove from NC to Downingtown PA on Fri, then Sat from Downingtown to Kennett Square PA (probably about 30 minutes), from Kennett Square to Milford, DE (about 1-1/2 hr), from Milford back to Downingtown (about 2 hours), then Sun drove from Downingtown first to Reston, VA, then Haymarket VA, then Broadway VA, then Mon from Broadway VA to Newton, NC.
Katla – I totally understand about needing the social aspect of a class. That’s why I take a few classes. What a shame that you can’t do DVD’s in your townhome.
Over 200 posts! Looks like I’m going to have to do some skimming. It’s 9:00 and the pool water is already 87
Barbara – I can assure you that Vince would never in this lifetime take that dog.
Well, Denise is moved in. She wanted me to drive down in her car with her and her cat. Not exactly the best situation, at least I don’t think so. Remember I was saying that at Christmas she wanted to bring the dog here because “Dave is afraid he’d scratch their new floors” and that was for only 3 days, now he agrees to let them live there? Well, it seems that the agreement was the every time the dog is in the house, he’s wearing booties. He was on the porch and in no time two of the booties were off. This is really going to last <yea, right>. Maria mentioned to Denise how she needs to pick up after the dog and Denise told her that the dog poops in the bushes so they never picked it up. Maria told her that some of the neighbors really watch. I can see Denise being diligent about picking up, but not Pete. One time when Dave (the step-father) wasn’t looking, Pete let the dog walk into the house without the booties. Dave is away a lot for business and he takes trips with friends (no wife). So this is going to last long. Wouldn’t surprise me if while Dave is gone Pete doesn’t bother with the booties. After we unloaded, they were going to return the truck and come back to the house in Dave’s truck. Vince overheard Dave say to Pete “the dog’s not coming, I don’t want him in my truck”. The driveway isn’t very big. Now they do have a 2 car garage. They SAID that on street parking is permitted, but we saw how people whip around those streets. I wouldn’t want my car in the street! So we’re just going to sit back and wait.
Was pretty good about the eating while I was away. Logged everything when I got home and most days I was under. Got that “you’re not eating enough” message from MFP. Of course, not yesterday.
Vince ordered this thing on Amazon where you can remotely check on the pool. That’s what he wanted for Father’s Day. He also ordered a timer for himself (for me to give him). Not sure what he's going to do if the remote says something like the chlorine is down but it shouldn't. There's nothing that can be done
Happy belated birthday Rebecca!
Lovely pics from the lovely weddings
Heather – we worked on swing, shag, and a few ballroom dances, I can’t remember which ones. The guy wanted to teach me rhumba but I know that would embarrass the kids. Vince felt it helped his bowling
I didn’t realize that so many states ban talking on the phone while driving. Guess I just haven’t really thought about it since NC doesn’t ban it (wish they did). I don’t like talking on the phone while I’m driving.
Donna – I also usually plan out what we’re going to have for dinner and prelog at least that much. Admitted, there are times when what I logged has to change, and I change it. If you offered me a slice of pizza or a big, juice, ripe peach, I’d take the peach. Some people think I’m crazy.
Made chocolate bran muffins today and chicken to have later in the week. The plan is to go in the pool after catching up here and Rummikub tonight
Felicia – lately I, too, find that when I eat lots of fats, my stomach says “I don’t think so”, and if I have a lot of refined carbs, I tend to get really sleepy.
Left a cake for Steve to say “thank you for letting us stay at your house” in his freezer, gave a small cake to Pete for moving, took cookies to Colby and then gave some to Greg. I’d made brownies before we left and froze them so took some out to defrost for Vince.
Felicia – I’m about 130-132 and when I lose, it’s usually about 1 lb a week. Of course, the next week I’m usually gaining that lb….lol
Did a load of laundry and then washed our sheets. It’s interesting…in PA and VA I wasn’t itching. Yet, last night I almost couldn’t stand it.
Marion – welcome back! You’ve come to a great place
Kate – happy anniversary
Heather – welcome home! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. I always look forward to them.

Tracey With all due respect to the replies already posted, the only reply you've gotten so far that I completely agree with is from Barbie.
From my experience & research, weight loss is complex. There are so many individual factors, such as food intolerances, insulin & leptin resistance, exercise, basal metabolism, thyroid hormone, quality of sleep, starting weight, height, age, gender, stress & stress hormones, other hormones, medical conditions, and many other factors, that it can't be reduced to a simple answer or equation.
Additionally, weight loss is not linear, thus rendering discussions on how much weight is too much weight to lose in a certain time frame meaningless. 1-2 lbs a month might be great for one person, but another person might lose 1/2 a lb, or might lose 5-10lbs. Or lose 4 lbs this week and nothing next week, without changing diet/exercise.
I am not aware of any legitimate research that says that losing more than 1% of your body weight in one week is inherently dangerous or too aggressive. The main issue from my perspective is that if you set unrealistic goals for you, it will lead to disappointment and discouragement. Thus Barbie's comment about the best food plan being the one you are able & willing to follow.

I have to agree with Barbie and Karen here. It seems to be very individual,
I know a lot of the MFP wisdom was just flat out wrong for me. Probably being a menopausal woman, my hormones, which are out of whack, play the bigger part then they would for someone else. The keys to me were intermittent fasting, meal timing, and eliminating most all processed carbohydrates. But that doesn’t mean any of those will be what the next person‘s body responds to.
The only close to universal piece of advice I have seen for middle age and older women, is to be very careful to make sure and get enough protein. Of course how much “enough” is, is something that is up for debate. But everyone seems to agree that getting enough protein is a key.
It may take a while but if you keep trying different approaches, I’m confident you’ll find that your body responds well to some of them. You can use that to learn what is and is not optimal for you.

Cheri: I'm happy that you got some sleep. I hope your DH's trip goes by quickly and successfully, and that he is home soon. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I'm delighted to hear about all of your fun, and the most improved couple in ballroom dancing award is spectacular. I sense a little wistfulness about the conclusion of this particular cruise. I hope the ship finds a new home that cares for it and uses it well. :flowerforyou:
Rita: I love the photo of you driving though the Grants, New Mexico Historic Route 66 sign. Thanks for sharing. :flowerforyou:
Tracey: Felicia has good advice. I'm sure the person who said that 2 pounds per week of loss is too aggressive for people under 200 pounds was speaking their own truth. We are all different. I let MFP set my weight loss goals for me and was happy with the overall results. Each time I met a goal, they reduced my allowed calories. The target loss was never more than 2 lbs per week. I didn't lose on a predictable schedule. Sometimes I'd be on a plateau for weeks, and sometimes I'd lose a couple of pounds two weeks in a row. The target weight they had for me was around 145 pounds, but it doesn't work for me. I have bursitis in my left knee from an over use injury. I need to be under 140 to keep that joint from causing pain. I trust their system, but we all have individual quirks that lead us to the spot that is healthy for us. I have been very happy with following MFP suggestions. I'd be less willing to jump on some individual's advice. :flowerforyou:
Sue: I'm glad you were able to finally get Bandit home. I've had bad experiences with traffic on I-5 more often than not. Things seemed to get bad as we approached Fort Lewis/McCord. Our son is not stationed there now, and we haven't travelled that way for a couple of years. I'd love it if he were stationed there again. Now he is in Virginia, and we seldom see him or our grandbaby.
Marion: You've found a good group for encouragement and support. I hope you stop in often.
We've been working like dogs to get our storage unit cleaned out well enough to move the RV there when the repairs are done. We are making good progress. We have a small trailer in there for our Terra-Trykes that we need to move to give us enough space for parking the RV. We plan to bring the trailer home. It will take up slightly more space here, but it won't be problematic. The motor home is almost ready for use. The window covers in the bedroom need repair/replacement but they are at least functional now. I can hardly wait for our first adventure.
