My youngest daughter had her engagement pictures taken on Sunday. I waited patiently all day yesterday for the photographer to post sneak perks. I can’t wait to see the rest!

Okiewoman-I laughed at your remark about eyebrows! I always had Hypothyroid Eyebrows and they never grew back quite right after Chemo; my mom sincerely believes that Eybrows and Lipstick are armor to face anything that comes your way!
I’m new here, so forgive me if I’m slow on the uptake; I’m trying to cut carbs, but honestly I’d live off of toast and tea if I could! My biggest issue is that due to cancer/surgery/etc, I don’t tolerate eggs, most meat and raw vegetables; my doc wants me to avoid gluten; I’ve been checking some websites/recipes, but it seems like the recipes/ideas get very expensive very quickly. I’d greatly appreciate ANY ideas....6 -
hi friends. It's been one thing after another. I got over the migraine and got the GI yuck. Spent the weekend in bed. I'm at work today but still feel a little queasy.
Haven't heard much about my friend's surgery (it's kind of hush-hush), but my best friend's beloved dog, Max, was just diagnosed with a rare form of malignant melanoma. It has no treatment because of the type. Of course she is devastated.
OK going to try to catch up here! Take care all, Meg from Omaha6 -
drcrn101 - What do we call you? I'm sorry to hear of the cancer and the problems it is causing you with your eating. I'm afraid I won't be any help. I eat anything I want, as long as it fits in my calories. That said, I rarely eat bread, potatoes or rice. I eat a ton of salads and steamed veggies. Yogurt is my best friend. I make a lot of egg white scrambles with tons of veggies when I'm home alone. I tend to be rather boring and choose the same foods over and over. Heck, I eat a big salad with turkey every day for lunch, well every weekday, normally the hubs wants to eat out on the weekends so we eat lunch out and I eat my turkey salad for dinner. At least I have him trained now to eat a salad for dinner when we eat out for lunch.

Skipped one day and I’m behind over 110 posts! I’m changing my goals to follow the DASH diet:
2-3 dairy daily
6 grains
3-4 veggies
4 fruits
3-6 lean meats
Nuts 3 a week
Fats & oils 2-3
NO SWEETS AT ALL
30 min exercise 5 times a week

Rita - I couldn't stick with no sweets forever. Well, I guess I could if I had to, but I wouldn't by choice.

Heather--Sorry to hear about DH friend. Loss is never easy. My friend that had the stroke in Jan is not doing well in the independent living place so they are looking for something that has more attention, people around. I feel so bad and get to see her often, it is 100 miles one way and feel bad, but working full time I can only get there about once every two weeks.
Michele--DGD and I went and painted ceramics a week ago. It was our first time and we did have fun. I do think next time we will go to the one in Kearney as they had more to chose from.
I have had another give notice so having to find a replacement and the company does not make it easy. So much paperwork. This one my boss was talking of letting go, so it is for the best, but doesn't make my life easy. Back to 50 plus hour weeks.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE6 -

Tracey-I agree, those are awesome engagement photos plus PUPPY!!!!
I'm having a rough day at work. Just a lot of stupid emails from people who like to change the rules without telling me and then acting like I'M at fault because I'm not psychic. GRRRR. The GREAT news is, though, I didn't run into the comforting arms of sugary carbs! I went and talked to my DH (we work at the same place) and we got a cup of coffee instead. Progress!

I've been drafting some ideas for the short speech/recitation I'm going to give at my brother's wedding vow renewal this Saturday. My son is aiming to be there with Max and Edie. I scribbled some stuff out. Then I made some notes on my phone when I was on the train yesterday and today I've refined ideas on my tablet.
Am I nervous? Yes I am.But I'm always nervous and it always goes well in the end. I will have to ask him whereabouts in the service I am speaking. I'm going to use that deck of cards meme someone posted the other day. Even though it's in a Baptist Church I hope people will laugh.
My main theme is the warmth and strength of their marriage, "always starting afresh" and then, "friendship". Hence my favourite poem I will read, US TWO by AA Milne. I read it at my son's wedding and they have it framed on their kitchen wall.
I will practice and practice, but I will have notes in a filing card in my hand, just in case and the words of the poem printed out large enough for me to read without glasses.
Tomorrow a boiler man is coming for a service because the purchasers wanted an up to date certificate. I hope he doesn't find anything expensive! Also the last day of my current cleaner, who said all the nice things about us.Going to give her a precious pot of our recently made blackcurrant jam, all prettied up, and a card.
The new cleaner rang today and sounds nice. First day next week. Always takes a while to "break in" a new cleaner.
Welcome to all the new July ladies. :flowerforyou: Stick with us - we are founts of wisdom!

Hi Sisters,
Happy Birthday Kirby-you two are the happiest, best-matched couple!
It is grey again today but if it doesn't rain (too much) I've got a plan... Yesterday I hooked Daisy Duke (my van) up to the float (horse trailer) and took Lady (my rescue Arabian who had a terrible floating experience before I got her) for her first ride in my float. I loaded good old Mani first, leader of the herd. She was reassured by his presence and was very easy for me to load. I gave her grain and carrots in the float to make it her Happy Place. I took them for a drive to the end of the road and back (ten minutes) then unloaded her at home. She was good and loaded straight up when I asked her to get back on. So now I feel sure (well, as sure as I can be) that if I take her down to the beach I should be able to get her back on the float and home again. The good thing is that the beach is close enough that if things turn to custard I would be able to ride Mani and lead her back home in under two hours. Part of the road is dangerous though as I'd have to go on the main highway for about 20 mins. So anyway, I left the van and float hooked up and all I have to do is load Mani and Lady and GO, so I'm hoping for a successful beach ride today. It will be Lady's first time at the beach and crossing streams and bridges-always exciting and challenging!
That said, I better get a move on and do the morning chores, so I can leave in time for low tide. I find that having horses and a large garden and dogs are the best ways for me to get my exercise in. It is all part of my daily life so I don't even think of it as exercise. I never count what I eat because it would be impossible for me to figure out how many calories I need to burn off. I need lots because I use lots. I let my hunger tell me what I need. I am high carb! A vegan (99%) and I choose healthy food like raw pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts( from our two trees), fruit, salads, brocolli, celery, radish, parsley and greens from the garden, rice and beans, wholegrain toast, veggie pizza (that's what we had for dinner last night) and lots of mushroom gravy over roast veggies because that's what I like!
My focus is on eating for optimum health and longevity and keeping my body as strong and vital as I can. Everybody does things differently and I have tried many different things. Right now, this is working great for me.Wendy

Just got word that one of our best friends Mom's passed away this morning. It was not unexpected, but not expected this soon. Hubs is away so I will be heading north to St. Louis for a funeral soon. I am not looking forward to driving in St. Louis for the first time, heck I don't like to drive anyway let alone somewhere new when I'm alone. It will be too far from the airport to the church to just uber though. This makes me even happier that we made the effort to go up for her birthday year before last.

Ok, I took a long walk to the downtown part of Oak Harbor today!👍
I walked to a coffee place, and bought a double latte'. On the way I visited with the nice lady that runs the candy store. Then I went to a little gallery area, where inside there are a couple of small shops, a restaurant, and also a piano. So I played for about an hr! I chatted with a lady, who wants to meet up with me with her acoustic guitar. Sadly, she's a recovering alcoholic, smokes marijuana, and was kind of a strange bird, but I felt like she wanted to talk, so we talked. When she went into the restaurant, I received $1 from a Mom and son who had been listening to me. Then later, the strange lady came back out and have me $5. So I made $6! I was a fun way to make my coffee money back!
Called my husband at a hair salon in the way home. Got my hair cut a bit shorter for summer!
My youngest Navy son called from OS school, and he sounded really good! We laughef, and had a great chat!
So a good day. My husband is a bit down from dealing with a cold. His colds always start with a bang, and he sweats them out.
He drove around looking for me today. He had gone to Wendy's, but I am not sure if he was just waiting for me to walk by or what. I called him from the hair salon, but I felt bad he had gone out earlier looking. Next time I will bring his phone, so he won't worry. We spend 99% of our days together, so that 1% he is worried about me. You might think he is too over protective, but trust me, he has a right to be. But its sweet, and I will slant it more to that he cares, and not that he is a psycho! Haahaa!
Love

Hi Gals,
Machka – Like you – so happy to hear of the rescue with no additional lose of life!
Pip – he’s looking fine now! The reminder of what he went through…
Feeling a bit off the last few days, not sick, kinda just in the dumps, I know it is because many friends are off on fun vacations – or even day trips – and although I have all of you and some dear friends here, most are married/living with their significant human – truly the only single gals I know are over 80 (or in their 20’s)….nothing wrong with that but just at a different place in life. And only 3 of my friends would consider just taking off and doing something just us girls; and that would take a bunch of coordination so hubby had something for lunch and dinner ready in one case he would need to have plans too. Periodically I wish for a friend, or even better a date – but then realize there is no time or money to facilitate that so go back to being content with Levi… 4 paws, fur and un-conditional love….
Emily, my god-daughter arrives tomorrow; and I love being with her, but it’s not the same as a friend, just to begin with I pay for everything – she’s still in college (not working) and her folks while certainly able would not offer up any spending money. Never have – I remember years ago I took her to Disneyland (I paid for everything) for 4 days and her folks sent her with absolutely no money…I would have sent a kid of mine with enough money and instructions to take Auntie Kim out to dinner or lunch as a thank you; and spending money for her own souvenirs.
Truly it isn’t like she takes advantage, we eat in and take picnics – and she’s not demanding at all - When her brother got a job I started things like if we go out to eat instead of eating in I’ll buy dinner, but you buy the drinks…. It’s just not the same as hanging with friends.
Smiles

Tracy in Edmonton: The photos are lovely!
Meg: I'm glad you checked in with the group. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I'm sure your brother will be pleased and touched by your participation in his wedding vows renewal.
Wendy: Your plans for the trailer & beach ride with your horses are well thought out. I'll bet you and the "ponies" all have a good experience.
Rebecca: Congratulations on a very good day. Your DH seeems to be a great guy.
My cousin stopped by today along with his wife and a couple they are friends with. He brought me a memento from my grandmother's days running a coffee shop, and later a restaurant to support herself and her children. (My grandfather died early on when my dad was a young boy.) I got a mug and saucer. As a child growing up, my parents had some of these cups. I drank my first coffee in one of them at an early age as part of our morning routine. Picture it as a cup of milk with sugar and a little coffee in it. Today's gift brought back good memories and was a generous thing for my cousin to do.

Kim - Hugs!! I have very few local friends. I work from home and the first 3+ years we lived here I had a Dog that required a lot of care so I didn’t get out much. I can’t imagine the parents not sending spending money.
Katla - you made me remember my cousin trying to teach me to drink coffee when we were kids. She filled the coffee cup the same way. I hated it. I still don’t like coffee or milk.
