(((Sue in WA))): Thinking about your situation again today and I have more to say. I hope it is worth reading. I am sorry that your sister is being difficult, and that it affects whether your mom will be at the wedding on time. Your sister seems a more than a bit on the selfish side about this. A wedding is all about the bride and groom, IMHO. I hope it all works out so that they have a lovely wedding to remember. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I agree with Karen in VA. You will be brilliant and your son will be touched by your support and participation in his vows renewal.
Allie: I hope you're able to enjoy the wedding. Have a good day!
Machka: I hope you find a good trainer for your DH that will give him the stability and balance he needs to start getting back into shape.
Kylia: My left knee is a challenge, and the reason I work at keeping my weight lower than the recommendations for my height. I have bursitis in that knee. It is very sensitive to weight, and painful if I go over a few pounds from its happy zone. :ohwell:
Kimberly: Getting the weight off takes time. Be patient with yourself and with the process. You've found a great group. I hope we'll see more of you. :flowerforyou:
Regarding the glasses lens, the color match is just fine. I think the optician was hoping for a bigger sale. I no longer have prescription coverage, so this is all out of pocket. One lens was over $400. The lenses are very lightweight, made of high tech plastic, and they automatically darken in bright light. I hope I don't need another prescription for years to come.

I started out the first 1-2 weeks with the scale going down steadily then all the sudden it went back up 2 lbs and has been fluctuating up and down a pound or two at the same weight for about a week now. It has to be the monthly hormonal thing. I'm eating low calorie 1500 for my height, age, weight and physical activity. Low carb under 70 grams generally under 40-50 and drinking 80+ ounces or more of water a day. walking 30 minutes 4-5 days a week. Just so frustrating and discouraging, but I'm hanging in.
Welcome and good luck! That happens to all of us. I suggest changing up your routine. Maybe add exercise in the evening, strength training is fantastic, intermittent fasting really works for me, I also love a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 4 ounces of water in the morning and evening meal time.

Heather good luck with your speech.
Kayla when my knee gave me trouble I did exercises in the pool and it really helped. I also make sure I am wearing shoes that give my feet good support. The exercisers I do work to build up the muscles around the knee like leg lifts, knee bends, I also went on line and got some good exercise tips from U Tube.1 -
Some of y'all might remember a quilt I was piecing three years ago, and trying to decide whether to bind in black or white. Well, I also decided to free-motion quilt it - and it took me THREE YEARS to get up the guts to start. Since all the pieces were ready, it took me about three weekends to finally finish it. The white sheet underneath is just to cover my bed, which is blue and would have been confusing. It's a full-size top on a queen-sized bed, which is why it looks a bit small.
You can see the detail of the stipple quilting on the back, as I quilted the squares in white thread, and the black binding in black thread. Hard to see in the first picture.

Having to be stationed in Japan for two tours (7 years), a rice cooker was up there with coffee maker, priority wise. I even had a microwave stand with a built in rice dispenser! All my sons love the fried rice I make either with chicken, pork, or ham. Why is it we mommas get so much joy in seeing our kids eat a meal we've fixed?! My eldest son when he was in Japan in the 90's loved plain white sticky rice, a bowl of ramen, a small sheet of teriyaki Nori seaweed, and a bowl of fruit. So four small bowls and he'd take a bite from each like an adult! He was 3 years old at the time! So cute!

I have a round brush dryer thingy, and I dried the bangs part, then put it behind my ears, so it dries like that. If I didn't corral it a bit, it would dry all curly here and there! I did buy some hair gel, and the next time I wash it, I am going to let it lose, and see how it dries!

Crazy couple of months ... I've been skimming your posts. Best news was Machka's husband is home! Yay! Condolences to all of you experiencing loss. Margaret, I absolutely love the way you have thoughtfully found the health strategy that works for you! I copied it. Kelly... enjoy your visit with your grandson.
The low carb discussion...this type of diet was suggested to me when I had a personal trainer and initially lost 80 pounds. Two days of very few carbs and then 5 days of low/moderate carbs. It worked for me.
A comment on high protein... I just spent another week with my OS who is disabled in the hospital. Acute Kidney Failure. Again. The first question the nephrologist asked was related to dehydration, but the second question was in regard to diet. My OS primarily eats protein and fat ... not for weight reasons ... he just eats what he likes. We were told that diets high in protein can cause stress to the kidneys. My point ... be careful. Every system in your body is connected to another. Finding balance is important.
My weight loss efforts have been derailed and I'm disgusted with the ground I've lost. So this weekend I'm preparing food that I know we all will eat and that is healthy for all of us.

Lisa - great job on the quilt!! Love the colors and design!
Rebecca - adore your haircut. Looks great and easy to care for!
Beth - thank you for the reminder about protein, I get concerned a little because MFP has me coming in at 70 gm and I try to keep it lower. When a person is low carbing, that's hard to do.
So I wonder if upping the water intake helps to keep the kidneys flushed from the effects of that protein and will minimize stress on them. Does anyone here know? Just curious. TIA

Beth thank you.I like to call the diet I am on a high fiber diet anti inflammatory diet. I do not eat an excessive amounts of protein or fat. The fats I do eat I try for nuts, avocado, coconut oil to cook with, whole fat organic dairy. I am trying to eat at least five veggies and fruits a day that are in the color of the rainbow Red, orange, yellow, green, blue/purple. Another book I am reading said even it you slip try to aim for the 5 a day with plenty of water because it will help with the overindulging and make it easier to get back on track.
I am sorry about your son. My DH now only has one kidney so often times we split the protein portion of our meal. It is plenty for both of us and creates a check for DH.

Did Michelle Dozois Anywhere Anytime Workout DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Rodney Yee’s AM and PM yoga DVD
Hallmark had their Christmas ornament debut today and Vince wanted to go, so I did a different DVD which was less time so I could go. Then I went to the farmer’s market. There was this guy who had Burpee Hybrid cantaloupes which I love so I bought two. We’ve been invited to a friend’s house for dinner Thurs before we go to see “Nunsense” so I’ll take some. If you’ve never had this type before, it is SOOO sweet, I will never go back to Athena again. Now home and I need to pick up the donations for the soup kitchen at the church tonight. Which reminds me, I should get our donations ready to take
Kimberly – welcome!

Heather I am sure your speech for your brother was perfect. You took so much care.
Sue I do hope the wedding went smoothly despite the family uncertainty. Even if your sister does not appreciate you, Bandit knows just how caring you are.
Allie I am so sorry about the exam. I hope that you can take it over soon.
Rebecca What a thoughtful and useful gift. It sounds like your son has many happy memories of Japan. You and your husband provided just the good example to spur all your boys to service.
Lisa What a beautiful quilt. It was just waiting for the perfect time to be finished.
Michelle This must be local cantaloupe day. I also bought two and ate almost an entire melon. I bought local candy onions or the third week in a row. They are not in season very long and they really are very sweet. I just saute them in a nonstick pan with some water and a hint of olive oil. Yummy.
I cleaned all the horse tack from the basement yesterday. I took leathers and saddles to a shoemaker for intensive cleaning. They developed fuzzies from all the dampness. It was a very wet spring and I just discovered that my dehumidifier only made noise. It was not removing the moisture from the storeroom. (Sears scratch and dent is on my errands list tomorrow for a replacement.) I want them to get cleaned and then buffed with a machine so I can get the best price. All the blankets, irons, wraps, and clothing went to two different consignment shops. One is very high end and takes only perfect items. The other will accept things that have been repaired but are still in very good condition. All my stuff was washed, dried, and then spread out on the grass in the sun for a final disinfecting/odor removal. So between both shops, all the soft goods are gone. When the leathers come back, I will consign all of that. My car was packed and that was not even half of what I have had over the last 25 years. I held onto all the stuff even though I gave away the horses a few years ago. Wishful thinking. I could either pay for costs associated with DGD's cancer or pay for horses. I still miss my pony. Since the cancer came back over a year ago (poor baby has only been cancer free for less than a year out of 5) I know that I made the right decision. Also, there was no way I could have taken care of my husband and horses.
Cleaning out everything I don't use is next.

Dog show, lunch and stroll/shopping with new T'ai Chi buddy went well. No Skye terriers but lots of Border Terriers, a few Wheatens, a couple Russells and a Smooth Fox. She drove so I indulged in a real, not AF, ale at lunch. Was pleasantly surprised it didn't make me woozy. But oh! That gal is a naughty influence. Took me into a shop that was all popcorn and candy. Just had to sample some dark chocolate covered caramels. You know how that story ended. Managed to hold myself down to one, stashed the other four for 4 other days down the road. Then we hit the farmer's market where I found the guy (Rivers Edge Gourmet Foods) who puts together seasoning packets for dips and dressings. Got his curry mix at last Valentine's day art and chocolate event and it is yummy. Today got the chipotle which I'll respect as it's marked as HOT. His ranch is the only ranch I like, other than my own garlic ranch based on Pioneer Woman's.
Kylia Here are the knee exercises PT gave me. I have to DO them for them to help, tho'. Sit on floor with rolled up towel under bad knee, other knee bent. Use thigh muscle to pull kneecap up toward your groin and hold for a count of 5. Relax, and repeat 10 times. Try not to use butt muscles, just thigh. Then roll leg outward from hip and do another set. Same for other knee.
Sit on floor with knees bent next to wall. Put ball between knee and wall, press out against wall, hold for a count of 5, relax, repeat for 10 times total.
Swing around and do other knee. Then put ball between knees and squeeze inward, hold for count of 5, relax and repeat 10 times. All the time concentrating on using muscles above and around knees to make space within your knee joint.
Roll over onto your stomach and do quad stretches, try to get your heels to your butt, hold for 5, repeat. I use a resistance band around my ankles as I can't quite bend enough to grab hold of ankles with hands.
Finally stretch calves by standing tiptoe on a folded blanket and lowering first one heel to floor, then raise it as you lower the other for 10 times each side. Finish with both heels on floor, toes on blanket, and try to bend your knees.
Here's what the towel and ball look like. Good luck! NYKaren could you borrow someone's terriers, host them in the attic?
Katla Your lenses sound like mine, only mine are also progressive/hidden bifocals. They ARE expensive but the ultralightweight and automatic darkening are worth it to me.
Pip I can just feel you backing up to get a running start and BAM. Thanks!
Lisa Beautiful needlework!
Beth so sorry to hear your OS is in hospital again. Point well taken about how interdependent our bodies' systems are. Thanks for posting.

CJ - I'm so sorry to hear about your granddaughter. The worry must be so hard. Of course you wanted to do everything you could for her.
Well done on getting to grips with all that stuff. I am cheering you on. My writing archive is something of the same challenge. I still have a lot to do. It takes courage and persistence.
The renewal of vows ceremony and the party all went very well. DH was not happy sitting through the religious ceremony (my brother is Born Again) , but he felt he was needed to help keep Edie calm. Apart from the pastor there were three speakers - I was the second. I was glad I was before my nephew and his wife, who I knew would be the comedy turn! I did have a couple of jokes, including the deck of cards one, but mine was more like a sermon followed by a funny poem. I think it went down well. Several people came up to me afterwards to say how much they enjoyed it. DH said it didn't look as if I was reading the speech, so that was good. I was, of course, very nervous, but managed ok.
There was a choir and live music, projected words and pictures. At the end people danced around to God's Great Dance Floor.
The dress code was "summer", so there were lots of shorts and colourful shirts! There were bridesmaids with roses and a ring bearer in a flowered jacket.
My DSIL wore a beautiful dark green satin full princess gown with rhinestones. She has gorgeous long, red, curly hair so it was intertwined with jewels and a tiara.
Max and Edie enjoyed the after party with a huge buffet and candies!!!! They did great on the dance floor when the disco started and Max has a great sense of rythmn! I brought AF wine and my son went on to the AF beer. I did ok on the food - lots of veggies and hummus, fresh fruit and a few gluten free wraps with spinach. I did have half a mini pork pie.
We left just after 8.40 and the kids were still in fine fettle. We are seeing them on Thursday again.
It was great for my son to reconnect a bit with his cousins. He last saw them 6 years ago. We lead such different lives , but I think one of my nephews might be up for a relationship with my son. They have children the same age and he is a self made business man. They swapped numbers and emails and we can host them once we are down in Hove.
So, pretty good. It's a miracle DH went at all, so that's a win, and it was nice for him to have Max and Edie there. It always astounds me how huge a family I have! My brother has 6 children from two wives.
The ex wife was there (!!!!!) , so I did go over and say how brave I thought she was and how difficult it must be. I think she appreciated it, but said it was water under the bridge. Her partner was with her. I did modify my speech very slightly because she was there.
I didn't take very good pictures, but will post a couple from my phone when I get to it.
Otherwise, love to all and thank you for your good wishes. It helped a lot.

Good morning ladies. We're going to my mother's 90th Birthday party today. 10 hours of driving to and from. We're having an open house to spread out visitors since she has a hard time with crowds. My daughter is still in need of prayers she is really doing poorly. The medication makes her feel awful.
