WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JULY 2018

Hello. I am Susi from Washington. And yes I am over 50. This is my dear grandson, Lincoln. And trying to find myself back down 40 lbs. I gained in by not tracking food. It is a love hate thing tracking. But there is truly value in this. There should be a place to track my mood with eating. I am in the crazy world of Real Estate and sometimes I do amazing and then there is that "wiggle" where I am not doing so well. And eating my husband's food (love a guy who can cook) but he uses too many fats and it makes me grow. So this month my goal is to track every day. The good, the bad and the ugly. So far I have tracked 17 days! in a row. So hopefully I can keep it going. Well I am going to soak up all your great information. Machka, I am glad your husband is home and you have care people in place. I pray for strength spiritually and emotionally as things have change. I admire your love for him.5

So sorry to hear of your granddaughter's cancer CJ. I don't suppose you can think of much else. (((((HUGS)))))
Mary - I know you too must be worried sick. It's awful when you feel so impotent.
Decided not to run this morning. I will do it tomorrow before we drive to Hove. That will fit in better with the day as we will get in some walking as well. We are staying overnight so we can go to Edie's show. She is the bear in We're Going On A Bear Hunt. It's her last term at the nursery before she starts school in September. Her final report was so lovely in that it perfectly described her brilliant skills with people as well as her gumption. One thing all three children have is their "try, try, try again" quality. Their mum has worked hard on not being afraid to fail. Sometimes Edie says, "I'm not very good yet, but I'm only learning." It doesnt stop her trying. That's a lesson we could all learn.
I'm starting a new cleaner this afternoon, which is always a bit preoccupying, but I should still have time for some recumbent bike. She sounded nice on the phone. It sometimes takes a while for them to understand how I want things. I don't expect them to do the whole house in 2 hours! I would rather they did half of it properly. Hate a half done room! I've got a thing about skirtings! With this agency you can choose "deep clean" or normal clean, I want something in between!
The agency has recently put their pay up, which I'm glad about. It was far too low before. But I think the agency fee is too high.
Hope to sort another box today.
Much love to all and love to all those suffering or taking care of sufferers.

Margaret, reading about your yard with the birds, butterflies and bees just made me feel like I had a little mini vacation! Sounds just lovely, and what a good thing you are doing for the planet. Wish more people felt like you do.
CJ, my heart breaks for you and your family. Keeping you and yours in my thoughts.
Mary, you are also in my thoughts. Our babies are always our babies.....
Kelly, I'm so glad you are having such a nice visit with Joaquin! Oh, and your daughter of course....
Rebecca, sincerest wishes for a speedy recovery! I'm trusting that all went well.
Lenora, I love the story of the snoopy landlady! Imagine the nerve!
Two days of not snacking after dinner, and didn't do too bad all day either. I did do a bunch of running around this afternoon and then this evening hubby and I were outside checking the automatic sprinklers for our complex. We're pretty sure the one set aren't working, and not quite sure how to fix them.... The poor grass there is just not happy. Doesn't help that one resident has taken it upon himself to weed whack it within an inch of it's little life. sigh. Oh well, it is what it is and come the rainy season it will be green and lush once again! After checking that out and having a nice visit with a very cute young couple who are expecting their first baby this month, I went and watered our flowers in our backyard. By the time all of that was done it was almost 9 p.m., so decided to go and brush my teeth and have my shower so that took care of the mindless munchies! lol Such a nice feeling!
Too many people to respond to individually. I have been reading and do think about all of you as I'm reading. I hope you can feel my hugs, hear my laughter and also hear me cheering your victories!

It was an unusually long surgery, the doctor said! My parathyroid that was removed was 50% bigger than it should be! I told him before the surgery to take a picture of it. So when he sends it to me, I will share the little alien 👽!! I feel like a pin cushion tonight! They had to switch IV from left to right arm, because it got clogged. Then I had to talk thru using my vein with all the scarring. The vein is beneath the scar trust me. Go slow, so you don't pierce thru the vein. Just slide it in. The moment she got it in, I felt a slight pop, so I knew she got it. She thanked me profusely for helping her thru it. I said its a matter of sensing and knowing its there.
Dealt with a terrible headache but that was just getting all the medicine out of my system. Its now 1:31 am, so gonna try to go back to sleep. Thanks for helping me they this ladies!!!💗
Hugs!

It's astounding to me how quickly I run out of energy mid-afternoon now. I wasn't like that prior to my husband's accident. I used to have much more energy.
And right now, it is so tempting to hire a personal assistant for a couple weeks, but not sure how to go about doing that. The person would have to be extremely well organised and very comfortable with technology. Also with a reasonable grasp of bookkeeping / accounting. Basically another me ... maybe a slightly more organised me.

Kim - it sounds like you did a great job with your god daughter. Someone like you is so important at that age. Much better than a parent.
KJ - Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

CJ – I’m so sorry for the news on your granddaughter.
Mary – sorry your daughter is still struggling, as well. C-dif is hard to get through. It took a long time before all my tests came back completely clear.
Cheri – LOVE your new home, and I actually purchased that same dining set, including a very similar hutch, from an older couple here after we arrived in Arkansas. Love the oak sets, and have wanted one for a very long time. Look forward to seeing mine in my new home, and settling in for good.
Kim – glad you feel like you had a vacation, dear heart… and that you were there for your goddaughter.
Machka – if anyone deserves a little assistance, dear heart, it would be you.
Rebecca – glad to see you posting… and glad the surgery was successful!
Still in Dallas – terrific meetings all day yesterday with the CEO and then their VP of Fund Development, so much information.
On the personal side, struggling, food-wise. Only two meals in the course of two full days have actually stuck with me, and was praying to the porcelain god until well past midnight last night, when whatever it was that got stuck finally stopped obstructing things. There are still occasions when it feels as if the gastric bypass was a deal with the devil… but then I remember the amazing life that I found after I took off the weight that was weighing down both my body and my spirit, and remember once more why it was the right thing.
I know part of it is stress—my fund development partner from El Paso, who's here with me, told me Monday that she’s turned in her notice to the organization, so I’ll be on my own as of July 27. It was not news I wanted to hear, but I’m so happy for her, as she’s going to be working for the City of El Paso Animal Shelter, managing their grants and working on developing bond campaigns for their future.
Not helping the stress levels is that I’m meeting with the surgeon about my knees on Thursday, and the house closing is Friday.
But for now, I call my hubby in a half hour, which always helps my outlook. Then a shower, packing up stuff, getting a little oat bran in my body so it will quit telling me it’s starving, two hours of meetings, a few more hours with my El Paso co-worker and friend, and four hours’ drive home.
Love y’all,
Lisa, soon to be back in Arkansas

Lisa - Cheering you on!
Machka - Lovely photos.
After another call from our agents about lack of paperwork arriving at our solicitors, I couldn't help firing off an email to our solicitors without telling DH. Makes me feel a bit better.
I've also rung the Oxfam shop about collecting a big box of poetry books. Might try to find some more to go with it. I've kept the two I was awarded as school prizes.
My new cleaner has rung to say she is ill. The agency should send someone else so I am expecting a phone call. It'll have to be Friday as we are out tomorrow.

Occasionally we get snow ... this was around about this time of year 3 years ago ...
Most of the time, we're too close to sea level for snow, but it can get quite chilly, rainy, and windy (like it has been the last couple days).

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! DD and Joaquin are still asleep, so I thought I'd try to touch base with all of you!
Mary- So sorry to hear that your daughter is still unwell! Sending hugs and healing thoughts/prayers to her.
CJ- So sorry to hear of your granddaughter! Hugs for peace and comfort!
Machka- So happy to hear that DH is able to take some of those walks that you always enjoyed! How is his memory doing now that he is in familiar territory? Does he remember the walks and rides in the area?
Lisa- Your quilt turned out LOVELY! Sorry to hear of your tummy troubles.
REbecca- Well, don't you look fantastic after surgery! lol Glad to hear it went well! Your haircut looks wonderful on you! Healing thoughts coming your way!
Carol- Funerals are SO hard! My family tends to "celebrate" life in a wake-style funeral. My DH's family is MUCH more somber and reserved. I am comfortable (well, as comfortable as one can be at a funeral) at either style; but my DH is decidedly uncomfortable at the more upbeat "celebrations of life".
Heather in regards to the solicitors- Give 'em Hell, missy! (My mother would always say that to me when I had to fire off letters/phone calls to businesses).
Denise- Love the seahorses!
Welcome new girls- Just jump in where ever you feel the urge. Remember to bookmark the page (the blank star on the title line, it will turn yellow when book marked). Log, log , log every bite! I know it is probably the most difficult part of mfp to begin logging. But after about three weeks, you will have a "base" of regularly eaten foods and logging becomes easier.
Ooops! Joaquin is awake and wanting to eat. More later. So much I want to comment on and share; but it will have to wait. I will leave you with this. Joaquin deciding that swings are fun!

Karen Stunning photos
Macha also stunning. You too are recovering from the trauma of what DH is going through. For me I call it my trauma brain and give myself a break when I am not up to what I used to be able to do. I also pace myself. Tasks that I could get done in a couple of days now take me a week and that is okay. I just adjust accordingly.
My priorities are different to a friend wanted me to go to the grand opening of The Bell Museum ( a natural history museum) DS#2 had the day off. It was more important to me to go to lunch and have a scrabble game with him. It is not easy to find time to do things with him. I also was able to get a walk in with my walking buddy. I will make it to Bell another day.

Machka- So happy to hear that DH is able to take some of those walks that you always enjoyed! How is his memory doing now that he is in familiar territory? Does he remember the walks and rides in the area?
He remembers some of it. His memory is patchy and kind of comes and goes. So he seems to remember some things really clearly, and other things less so ... and some things not at all.
He's also struggling with short-term memory. So he'll often remember that something happened, but can't tell you which day or who was there ... even if it was earlier that afternoon. He'll tell me that "such and such" happened this afternoon, and I'll think, "Actually that was 3 days ago". Or he'll tell me that "such and such" happened a couple days ago, and I'll think, "Well ... really, that was about 4 hours ago." But sometimes he gets it right.
He has been diagnosed with Vestibular Disorder now ... we suspected that for a while, but finally they're taking it more seriously.
https://vestibular.org/understanding-vestibular-disorder/symptoms
He's got a homecare worker with him during the day while I'm at work, and has started Community Rehab a couple days a week (a couple hours on a couple days), and one part of that is physio which will work with him on this Vestibular Disorder issue. They seemed to think there was hope for improvement.
And he's happy to be home. He was getting very tired of the hospital setting.

CJ: Praying for your granddaughter.
Rita: We haven't towed anything with our Bounder, but we do have some terratrykes that we may tow. DH needs a motor for his because he is unable to simply pedal it. :ohwell: A neighbor has a tiny little car that they tow behind their motorhome. I'm not ready to go that direction yet. :noway: DSIL has an RV and does not take along another car. We will accompany her on part of her fall trip and learn what we can from her. We may end up like you, with one person driving the RV and the other driving a car. :flowerforyou:
Kim: I'm glad you stopped in! It is wonderful that you had such a good time with your god daughter that it felt like a vacation.
(((Rebecca))): You take a lovely photo, even in a hospital gown! I hope you are able to go home soon.
Lisa: I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling, food-wise. You are currently in a stressful situation. I gained a lot of weight stress eating before I found MFP, and know how it feels to over-eat just to gain a tiny modicum of energy. I hope you can avoid that.
Machka: What a beautiful beach! Congratulations on getting to walk it with your DH again. WIN! I love the Camelia, but don't recognize the other flower. I learned quite a lot for the information you shared on vestibular disorder. What a challenge for you both. (((HUGS)))
Today is cool and overcast. We're talking about going to the county fair tomorrow. My motivation to attend is lower than last year, possibly because last year wasn't as much fun as I'd anticipated. We've changed our eating and drinking habits since then. No beer garden in our future, and the fair food is off DH's list of possibilities. I think I'll talk to him about it this morning.

Did 10 Minute Fitness Ball Workout today. The plan for tomorrow is to do the water class.
Rebecca – thinking of you today
NYKaren – how horrible! Thank you for being there at the funeral.
Well, Vince went to the practice at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This is the first time ever that they’re having the roval so it should be interesting. While he was gone I went to WalMart to get a few things then had to go to Food Lion to get chicken. I want Vince to grill pork chops and chicken, maybe Friday since the change for rain is lower. Came home and made him a banana chocolate cake and while it was baking pitted about 1-1/2 bags of cherries (that were on sale). Now I’m trying baking the pizza balls that I’ll take to Rummikub tonight. The recipe says to bake them for 20 minutes and am I glad that I did it now because they were black on the bottom. So now I’m trying baking them for 15 minutes. If they’re still black, I’ll try them for 10 minutes. Then I think I’ll go in the pool. Update: never made it to the pool. Decreased the oven temp to 350 and baked them for 15 minutes.
Snowflake, there are a few things that I’m busy searching for. If they have them, I would love to have them shipped to me. I’ll PM you with the things that I’m looking for
Cheri – how beautiful
I’m not sure why the banana chocolate cake is sticking to the pan. I really sprayed it. I’ll just let it cool some more.
I didn’t do well today. Funny thing is – my stomach feels “yuk”. But I feel obligated to try everything that people bring, especially since I am the coordinator. Well, back on track tomorrow
CJ – how horrible! Will keep your granddaughter in my thoughts and prayers
Just saw a post of Rebecca on facebook. She’s looking good. Evidentally, no problems with the surgery

I hope they have what you are looking for. There is another ceramic place here in the city, I will try to find the name of it for you.
