Kelly I can't think of any jobs more important than those that shape our children - childcare, teaching, coaching, Scout leaders, librarians, etc. are, to me, the most important people in our society. This includes stay-at-home parents. I wish every dollar that the public education system asks for would be voted in, and that every rich person would leave an endowment in their will for grants for people engaged in the care and education of our children. Thank you for what you do. You are a gifted steward and you have a really important job.

Allie, I’m so sorry for your loss.
Beth, your vacuum cord reminded me of some simple things I love
Getting into a bed with clean sheets
Dancing and singing in the car
Frozen grapes
The start and the end of books
Clothes with polka dots
And many other simple things.

In 1979 I bought my first house and it had a laundry room with washer and dryer. Until then I had used laundromats or shared with others. That year my grandmother moved into a nursing home and I did her laundry for her feeling grateful every day that I was able to do that for her. Now almost 40 years later, I am still grateful every time I load clothes into the washer.9

Oh I just love all of you. It’s so interesting how each of you see life and how other people live around the world. Different, yes, but the same everywhere.
Happy Birthday Kim and many more!
Machka I’m so happy you are graduating. You have had such a hard road the last few months. You have struggled but you have done it!!
Pip I just love your doggies! They’re so cute!
Joaquin is such a cutie!
Rita I hope you enjoy the trip to the new RV Park. Take some pictures for us!
You’re turning into Willie Nelson! “On the Road Again”
Heather just a month or so before you move into your new home! It’s so exciting! Looking forward to pictures!
It’s been 3 years (8/5/15) since we signed the final papers on our home. It was so exciting! I remember driving out to the house with the keys for the first time and opening the door! Then we went back to Austin,Texas, and started packing. It was two months before we actually retired and moved. I had some flooring and carpets replaced before we moved and hired a cleaning company to go through the whole house. Since we drove 500 miles back up to Arkansas I didn’t want to have to clean!
Lanette I just bought some tumeric after running out. The swelling in my ankles went back down. Good stuff!
Gratitude
I’m grateful to be able to worship our Creator and be born at this time in history.
I’m grateful for waking up! I’ll be 70 this March so it’s getting iffy!
I’m grateful for my friends, family and my ten wonderful grandkids!
I’m grateful for my DH and his corny jokes, and providing a nice retirement home for us in Arkansas.
Our dog Dolly who is so much fun to play with and cuddle.
I’m so grateful for having enough money to buy food and the essentials of life.
I’m grateful to go to the Y to go swimming and that my back’s improving more and more since surgery.
Not many mosquitoes this summer!
And of course all of you!

A simple thing I am grateful for every day is having two bathrooms. We will have two in the potential new house, but we will have to fight over who has which. I think I might be the one who goes upstairs (not in the night!)
Went out for my run this morning and it was drizzling. I carried on, but decided to cut back to half an hour and do fartleks. (Random interval training). I should do more of that, but rarely remember. I listened to the Feed The Birds podcast.
Hope the docs arrive today.

Good morning! Good morning! Happy Thursday! I had my weekend/evening kiddo until 8pm last night. After my dayshift kids went home, I made dinner for us, we ate, and went for a trail walk. It was a good night, but he is a little chatterbox. Seven years old. Sliding into bed felt wonderful and I woke up feeling well rested.
Rita- I have been following your RV travels on facebook. You are doing a wonderful job showing your life on the road! The pics and stories are fantastic!
Dana- So, Dana! How are you filling your time, now that you have delivered your grands back to their mom? I know that sometimes the kids gave you a run for your money; but you look amazing in your pictures! Hugs to Dolly!
Beth- I saw the toilet lights! lol I will just call you Disco Buns I recently had to order a new toilet seat for my bathroom (not the kids bathroom). Short story; my bathroom fixtures (tub and toilet) are goldenrod (original from the 70s), so I got a "chick" toilet seat and lid. Makes me giggle every morning! I won't put the link, but you can get them at Home Depot.
Terry- Sliding into a bed with clean, fresh sheets is mentioned a few times in my gratitude journal! Doing it with newly shaven legs is heaven!
Kylia- Congrats on another successful car showing! I think it is awesome that you and your DH have a hobby together. Not sure if I will ever have that with my DH! And that is okay. I don't even want to take him to the store with me. As I have said before; he was not spanked enough as a child.
Barbie- So happy you are feeling some relief from the back pain. Here is hoping you are on the mend and maybe a little PT is all that will be required!
Rebecca- Your grandma time is coming! Enjoy your sons at the ages they are now. When that first baby comes it will be well worth the wait. You will make a fantastic grandmother, I am certain!
Machka- There was a nature show on last night about an area of Australia (I think; I found it half way through). It mentioned kangaroos and other animals living in a very dry area. Then they showed a ranch called Jubilee Downs. It was interesting, but the narrator had a very mellow deep voice and my eyes kept closing. Last thing I remember thinking was I wonder if Machka lives near here....zzzzzzzz
Lisa- Hello, fellow weekend warrior! How are things going with the house? I see your son has moved in to help with the "getting ready".
How are you ladies in the Western/PNW doing with the wildfires that are burning?!
There is a storm passing through right now. The weather man says that it will clear by 8am...I hope so! I have an extra kiddo with me today (one of my girls that I have during the school year), she specifically told her mom that she wants to walk to the "snack tree" with me and the boys today! lol
Well, I guess that's all I have in my head today. hugs and healing thoughts to all who need them! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

OK Kelly burning question~ what is the snack tree?1

Good morning all you beautiful ladies,
Barbie, I’m so glad you are feeling better. My DH has back pain and it’s so debilitating.
Maybe turmeric would help the arthritis pain in my shoulder. How much do you ladies take per day?
Same ole same ole today. I think I’ll read for a little while before I get up.
Hope everyone has a great day.

I've been spending this morning sorting through more boxes of cards and letters. Quite a lot are emails that I printed out. I've managed to throw away about two thirds of them, which is quite an achievement.
Some are from men I was in love with between my marriages. Some are from my boys. Some are from dear, dear friends. I have kept a "representative" sample from each, but reading them through brought back a LOT of memories. I hope to get everything into a small box, down from four boxes.
I would throw a lot more stuff away, but I am a memorist and hope to write about those days sometime. Good to have memory jogs. I had forgotten so much. My boys communicated with me by email when they were on their trips etc much more than I remember. I joined the younger one when he was out in Peru.
Also found lovely thank you letters from my DDIL. The family are flying to France today on a house swap.
The documents have arrived. Hope to get that back in the post soon.

Sliding into bed felt wonderful and I woke up feeling well rested.
For some reason, I've completely lost the ability to do this. Even when I manage to sleep 9 hours on a weekend, I wake up feeling like I've been run over by a truck.Machka- There was a nature show on last night about an area of Australia (I think; I found it half way through).
KJ (Kelly)
Machka lives completely on the other side of Australia from there.
The Jubilee Downs station is located near Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia (northern Western Australia) ... 4000+ km from me. It is probably quite dry up that way. Parts of Australia have been in a drought. Where I am, however, it has been chilly and damp.

Did Denise austin’s Quick Burn Cardio DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Extreme Strength DVD
Allie – So sorry for your losses
Heather – I’m so excited for you. Sure hope everything goes well. You deserve it
M – congrats!
Melissa – added to the fact that the weight goes on so very fast
Had the Newcomer general meeting today. Vince is getting somewhat disillusioned with Newcomers and to an extent so am I. He’s been blown off so many times. He tried to stress the importance of having someone who will be able to be a backup for the webmaster. He even researched a place where they would do it, the present people would retain their duties but if Microsoft (if, I should say, when) makes an update, if it messes up our website, they can fix it. This is, to me, a very important job (the webmaster) and he should have backup. Look what happened to our previous webmaster. We didn’t have any backup and when he dropped dead, where were we? Scrambling to find a new webmaster. And he admits that there are certain things he can’t do. The present president keeps saying “well, let’s poll the members, maybe someone can be a backup” but nothing’s been done. Another point: when this one person joined, Vince was skeptical. He tried to promote his business (which we can’t do), the president had a talk with him. Now he’s going to subsidize our holiday party, and at this general meeting she wasn’t there but he promoted his business. He’s a nice guy – that’s because he’s a business man. At the last board meeting you should have heard Vince when she said that this guy was going to be subsidizing our holiday party. “According to the IRS rules, we are a nonprofit and any income must be matched by an expense for promoting our organization”. She kept insisting that this wasn’t income. Finally Vince said to her “I’m a CPA and this is income” He provided appetizers for one of the lunches. We really shouldn’t have that. To be honest, the IRS probably isn’t going to raise their eyebrows, it’s really chump change (the price of the appetizers). He ingratiated himself to members of the board. The lady who gets our speakers is going to have him introduce the speaker next month. Not a board member (like it probably should be). Her rational is that he was instrumental in securing this speaker. If as an advertiser he subsidizes our parties, other advertisers will want to do the same thing. We’re going down a VERY VERY slippery slope.
Katla – Vince has to look into Medicare and as he’s looking for himself I asked him to look to see what is involved in getting Silver Sneakers. For me, it would probably be worth it.
Carol – Jess is in vet school in St. Kitts. She’s coming back this Saturday. Then we all leave on aug 30 (Vince, Jess and myself) to fly there for her white coat ceremony on the 3rd of Sept. Then Vince and I return on Sept. (I think it’s) 6th.
Had the general meeting, then started to go in the pool but it started drizzling so came in and made some icing to have for when Jess is here (I made cupcakes last night and now have the icing to ice them as needed). Then the sun came out so I went in the pool. While I was in it, I heard thunder so I got out early. Did it every downpour! We didn’t go to ceramics
Barbie – so glad to hear you’re feeling better
Terry in vt – absolutely poka dots! Red ones, bright red
Looks like I forgot to post last night. Well, it’s Thursday now. Did an advanced Strength DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Weight Watchers 15 Minute boot Camp dvd. Normally, I would have gone to the water aerobics class but I canged to this boot campt DVD since my car probably won't be ready. If by some miracle it is, then I'll go to the water class. But I doubt it.
How wonderful it would be if we could watch M on stage! I never thought the college might have an online feed, but that would be great! M – find out. I for one would love to see it.
Katla – I’ve also found that when I freeze blueberries, strawberries, even cherries, that if you defrost them in plain yogurt, they make a “juice” (probably from the water in the frozen fruits). Mix that up, and you have a great treat
Terry in VT – aren’t frozen grapes great? I use them especially in summertime when I get a hotflash. They are also good as ice cream. It’s been years since I bought ice cream for myself.
Better post this before I forget again.

I love polka dots too! And I love stripes. Much prefer those to floral, though florals can be good in the right place.
Signed off all the paperwork and took the transfer deeds down the road to a W I neighbour to be witnessed. DH has gone out to post them. Here's hoping there are no ÷×+= ups from here on in.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -

I woke up at midnight feeling strong enough to take the dogs out for their middle of the night walk without having to wake Jake. Getting up in the middle of the night has been really hard on him so I was extra happy to be able to do that.
Heather, what great news about the progress of your house documents.

Mary: I'm glad you had a wonderful day with your DSIL. I'm looking forward to seeing mine this fall. :flowerforyou:
Rita: I am enjoying your travels. We've been through Glenns Ferry, but not Hells Gate State Park. I hope you'll share a photo or two.
Dana: Thanks for sharing your gratitudes. They are lovely.
KJ: We haven't seen much effect from the wildfires yet. This morning is a bit hazy. Those I've read about are in SW Oregon & California. Keeping everyone in the fire zones in my prayers.
Heather: I am so glad the documents have arrived! :flowerforyou:
Michele: I'm sorry that your Newcomers group seems to be heading in a direction that makes you uncomfortable. Regarding blueberries, when I defrost frozen blueberries in the microwave they turn juicy. If I let them thaw in the air of the room they stay firmer. I love them both ways.
We have yet another trip to VW today. This time it is for DH's car that they're working on. His car is not part of the huge VW recall, like mine was. It is older and needs work. The mechanic wants to talk to him about things. Later today there will be a concert in the city park, just a couple of blocks from home.

Sorted out a few more boxes. One was the property of my godmother "Aunty Dorothy" that I wrote about in my memoir. Her funeral stuff, some jewellery, not valuable, and a marvellous certificate in a red leather case, giving her father the Freedom of the City of London. Plus a small photo of him, looking just like her. He was a "fruiterer". I am happy to keep her bits as I truly loved her.
I threw away loads of cards, keeping a sample few, for my 50th, 70th, wedding, retirement, and my big op - my hysterectomy. Does anyone else keep this stuff?
It does bring back memories.
I have kept the best and funniest Mother's Day cards and the best Valentine's etc from DH. A great big bag to put in recycling.
It is hard. I cannot take it all with me to the new place and haven't looked at them for seven years. Making progress. It's nice to know how many people really cared about me.

Sue dew, glad you are feeling better.
Shanson, welcome to the group. We are quite chatty and there are a number of us so if you could tell us a little about yourself, where you are from and what you’d like us to call you. Helps to remember who’s who.0
