This up coming week is my birthday (Wednesday) and I’ll be 60, I am finding it to be interesting as for what ever reason this year, I am being a bit opinionated about what I want to do, I am not accepting what others decide what I want to do or get for my birthday. ... It seems I have had to correct everyone who wanted to get me something or take me somewhere… and it’s working I am going places I like and getting things I’ll enjoy, but my friends and family are all a bit shocked at finding out what I like – about time! And it’s weird that everyone has been we are going… I’m getting you… no one has voluntarily said what/where would you like for your birthday.. I am bending a bit with my mom, so came up with a compromise that is much closer to what I want then her idea. I am not sure if it has always been me going along or if things have shifted…

It seems to me that there was chocolate involved somewhere in the weekend as well.
My birthday falls on (or near) a long weekend here in Australia, so that's even better.
My birthday has been made all the more special because it's one of the last things my husband can remember before his accident. It's a bit patchy, but he does remember elements of it. After that, it would appear that he has no memory.

Barbie - You are the very model of calm in the face of circumstances beyond your control.
My doctor is out of the office all week so I won't see her until next week. I have physical therapy scheduled for August 14, 21, 28. This is clearly an opportunity for growth. I am learning a lot about patience.
Time and again you demonstrate the serenity part of the serenity prayer. While that's admirable, I hope you live by the other parts of it as well.
I've skimmed through the old posts - I was way behind, having missed ALL of July - and have caught up on developments, both positive and negative. Way to go on finding your forever home, Lisa! I checked out your blog and you sure have your work cut out for you! To those of you who have homes on wheels: congratulations and commiserations as appropriate (flash floods and fireworks and old friends and rejuvenated husbands and all). I won't mention certain other people who are in the process of relocating. I don't want to jinx anything!
I've had a couple entrancing interactions with birds this summer. In New Hampshire, I was out early one morning picking blueberries to make muffins. As I stood there, a female ruby-throated hummingbird flew up and inspected me for half a minute. She hovered so near my face that I had to tilt my head back to get her in focus. Seen that close, she had beautiful filigree patterns in her feathers.
The other interaction was back in Norway, at our island paradise. We have no fans or AC, so during the heat wave, I slept with open both bedroom windows slightly open on their hinges. We also don't have screens. (Not needed! No mosquitos here!) The windows were only open about three inches, but it was enough that a curious great tit hopped in from the windowsill. I woke to the sound of chirping and fluttering. There's something magical about having a small bird flying around your bedroom! I threw both windows wide open and he flew away unharmed. But I had goosebumps of delight for some time after.
Here's a photo from Sunday's fundraiser café at the village's old one-room schoolhouse.
The kids had two weeks of school then two weeks off. In the off weeks, the teacher would be at another school on another part of the island. This was before there were any roads to speak of. Some kids would walk several miles along rough paths to get to school, or be taken there by boat. They tended to board with relatives during the week and only go home over the weekend (and during off-weeks, of course). The balding man in the white teeshirt in the center of the picture is our farmer neighbor who keeps sheep and goats. He attended this school himself.

Hey ladies! Happy Tuesday! Nursing a headache this morning. Not sure why I have one. Maybe due to the air pressure? It has been a rainy couple of days (we need it, badly). Anyway, it is making my brain extra fuzzy this morning. I will have to run out a little before 7am so I can cast my vote in the primaries. Maybe hubby will come with me to negate my vote...

Happy Birthday, Kim! I hope your day/week are all you want.
I had that "fight" with DH's friends this year about "surprise" party. I don't do parties and "silly" gifts. I have enough stuff already. It was a huge issue. I am currently saving $ to go on a trip with my girlfriends when I turn 60. It will avoid all the drama, AND I get to spend time with people I really like
I am amazed at how something as simple as listening to people has become so hard for folks. My daughters both had my back though

working 8-noon today then going to see my attorney about a funded trust, and then take my granddaughter to orthodontist and then back to her grandpas.. then home... going to try and work 9-6 tomorrow to make up for today..love how they just use and abuse me.. what I would love to find a legitimate work from home job so that I can make money, and do what I need to do otherwise.. any of you smart women know of any jobs of that kind..?0 -

And speaking of birthdays ... it's my husband's birthday today.
There was a time I wondered if he'd make it to this birthday, so it was great to see him smiling and baking his own birthday cake this morning before I left for work.
We had some of it when I returned from work, and it's good. He made it from scratch, following a recipe. I'm so pleased it worked for him!

Honestly, the only thing I loved about Macs was the ability to color-code file folders, and then sort them like that - but because Outlook, even when on a Mac, is a Microsoft product, it didn't extend to emails. And, since I'm on web-based Outlook, I can flag now on my PC, but not color code my flags. Color coding is SO much easier. Other than that, kind of hated Macs, they're so idiot-proofed that I can't actually fix things when they go wrong, as they inevitably do. I'm a PC-chickie, and have a Droid phone. I utterly avoid the iProducts, wherever they pop up, honestly, as PCs tend to fit my thinking processes. Or vice versa, I'm never sure.
Got some writing done on my Coffee and Egg blog this morning, another stress-coping tool when I don't want to turn to food. Trying to gird my loins for the next marathon work trip, which begins Sunday. Optimistic news, well gossip, really, on a replacement for my fellow manager and counterpart, who I miss dearly. The CEO's executive assistant applied for the job, and when I found out she had, and knowing her strengths, I suggested to the soon-departing CEO over e-mail that she be hired as a fund development event manager. Grants I can deal with, but events are not my bag. Honestly, I'm good at them, I understand how to make them successful, but in no way enjoy the process - and she would be dynamite at it. Not holding my breath, but lordie, that would make my job easier.

I'm a PC person too, and have never got into the iProducts.
I colour code my calendar items (Categories), and my individual emails, but I don't understand why I can't do that to folders.
I also wish I could prioritise my folders based on urgency. I drop things into Tasks or the Calendar, but it would be nice to be able to do that right in the Mail section.
However, I'm not the one designing Outlook.

Karen - Never found one to fill the gap, but my husband has quickly perused the emailed docs and it looks like they want to sell us the SMEG fridge freezer that is currently there. Haven't looked at their price yet. It doesn't anywhere near fill the gap, but it would give me room for the roll out shelves that I researched . We are not charging for our huge fridge and freezer we are leaving, but they are nearly eight years old.
Emptied one box this morning, but I'm having trouble getting rid of my notebooks of all the wonderful workshops I went to with real top artists/writers/performers. One or two were really life changing. I might have to keep them.

kylie I am a big fan of using a notebook to keep track of habits I am building on. In July I picked three things I wanted to develop, they were all manageable, if I hit the goal that day I colored in a block—very motivating for me. This month I’ve kept 2 habits from July and added one new one. Good luck!
Being an introvert, a surprise party and gag gifts would be so uncomfortable it would be painful. Thanks goodness I’ve never been on the receiving end

I'm fighting my own resistance to keeping up my walking habit. Its harder in this heat, so I have been walking inside. Sitting too much today, must get up and get moving.
This thread is so positive and motivating, it makes it easier to give up all the feeble excuses !

After exercise this morning I will be going shopping with my sister, niece, great nephews, and sister in law. They will be coming into my town which has all sorts of gift shops and places to eat. Then tomorrow we hit the monthly flea market. This is an annual event for the last 9 years. I love living in a tourist area where there is always something fun going on. I'm glad that I am physically active enough to be able to enjoy the great food and drink I'll be having the next couple of days!

I walk "inside" in the heat all the time. I use Leslie Sansone Walking videos on You Tube. I also set my tablet on the bar height area of the kitchen counter and read and "step" throughout the day to get my steps in.
