Love this quilt with old handkerchiefs! Beautiful!

M – like you, I have really tight hamstrings.
I got those privileges back on the website, but I also got what looks to me like the ability to edit any of the website pages. I’ve asked the webmaster if I have that ability and if I do to please take it away. Accidents happen and if something happens, I don’t want to be thinking “did I cause it”. There have been times (too many) when I’ve called Vince to fix something and he says “what did you do”. I have no idea, and I don’t want this to happen to the website. I know that I’m not computer savvy and I don’t want to take a chance. I don’t know if I can just have someone grind the stumps and how much that would be.
Rebecca – gorgeous quilt!

I'm holding my own so far this week, but I need to journal more accurately. The data goes to my Fitbit where I get a full report on almost every aspect except my sex life. But that's ok because there's been nothing to report in that area for several years.
Trucker - (sorry I forgot your real name, though I know you've told us). I'm laughing about your Fitbit data  but crying with you about your working conditions. To be honest, I'm also angry - obviously not at you, but at the system. What's with the lack of benefits for "women's" jobs???
Allie - I thought your duties in Hartford got canceled. As I recall, you said they said "it wasn't going to work out" so no extra time or extra pay for you. I hope you're getting every penny and every bit of credit you deserve - and, what's more, everything YOU ARE ENTITLED TO!
Illegitimi non carborundum! Or, in plain English, Don't let the *kitten* grind you down!
Today I heard an interesting lecture about environmental toxins. Those who aren't interested, just skip the rest of this post and I'll catch you later. Those of you who are interested, bear with me and read on.
In north Norway, there's a study where researchers have been following people's health for decades, looking at what they eat, how they exercise, what they do for a living, what diseases they get, and so on. Norway also has fantastic databases where you can trace individuals (after getting ethical approval and anonymizing all the data). That means that the researchers can look for correlations between (say) DDT levels in an individual's blood and cancer or diabetes. The problem with that is that the DDT level in a person's blood in 1980 says nothing about the DDT level in 2010. The epidemiologist who was lecturing has been studying how the levels of a bunch of environmental pollutants change over time, and whether the long-term exposure has any correlation with disease.
One of the most striking things he found is that the levels of toxins in women's blood decrease sharply for every pregnancy. In other words, the toxins pass over into the unborn child (!) and are eliminated from the mother's system. The obvious conclusion was that firstborn children were "worse off" than their younger siblings in terms of how much toxic stuff they inherit from their mothers.
After the lecture, I asked the epidemologist if he saw any evidence that fourth- or fifth-born children were better off than firstborns -- and he said they hadn't seen anything of the kind! He acknowledged that when you study a single factor in isolation, it can seem incredibly important. But in real life, it's just one of a multitude of factors that contribute to overall health. You can't say X causes Y, when in fact Y results from an entire alphabet of factors. It just isn't that simple.
Bringing this back to our own situation, ladies, this suggests that we have all followed different paths to arrive where we are now, and will probably all find that different paths lead us forward. What works for Wendy may not work at all for Rebecca, and what worked admirably for Okie wouldn't help Katla one bit.
Personally, I've been doing a lot of jogging recently. I've run 160 miles since July 1, and have logged well over 500,000 steps. That's my path right now. It feels good; I feel good. I haven't lost any weight, but I feel good, and in my book, that's what counts.

Penny - I absolutely agree with you! What works for one won’t necessarily work for another. Our systems, desires, strengths, they’re all different.

What a beautiful quilt and a great way to use old handkerchiefs. When my girls and nieces were all younger I made them hankie dolls with a hand painted piece of art for their walls that had a poem on it about hankies. I wonder if any of them still have theirs? I'll have to ask.3 -
Penny, That's the great thing about this journey, it can't be a cookie cutter thing! I am so relieved that sanity kicked in, before Jenny Craig took all my money! Its great that I can eat what I like and make things happen. Letting a business or mindset dictate my journey is not ever going to happen....again.
You are amazing girl, with running 160 miles!!! Wholly molley!

Rebecca - Eating the Pop Tarts, you have been doing so well going over one day is not going to derail you completely I don't think. If you enjoyed them and they made you smile they were worth it!
Cathy - I just love your yellow kitchen. I would love to have a yellow room, but my hubby doesn't like yellow. I wonder though he is at me to paint my bathroom, I bet I could get away with it in there....
Kelly - What a sense of humour you have. It sure helps make life go easier with laughter. I love your creativity with your son's trash and pretty much everything you do. I can't wait to see where we are travelling with you and your children tomorrow.
Michele - I don't think I could volunteer for anything that caused that much drama. When does a new president get voted in? It seems that she is not up to the task right now.
Barbie - Beautiful recliner
Kylia - Fall - it sure has felt like Fall here the last couple of weeks in the mornings and evenings. My birthday is in September and I always remember it seemed like my birthday came and then it felt like Fall. This year almost all of August has felt like it.
Kim from NC - $400 tires, was that for all 4? My car is about 250 per tire. We need new ones this year too. I dread it. That's great that your business is flourishing, does it tend to slow down after Christmas?
Sharon - Thanks for the detailed information. I have always been in an office admin position in a "man's industry" I know that women are paid differently than men in this industry. It's terrible that it is still a thing in this day and age. Happy you were able to do better for yourself and your girls. I am 49 for less than a month to go, married 31 years to the same man, have two grown daughters, Lauryn is 29 married with one son Jonah (6) and one daughter Michaela (2). Kaitlyn is 27 and is getting married next summer. Even though I'm married, my Fitbit, if I had one, would have nothing to track when it came to sex life.
Heather - What a treat from your son! Bathroom decluttering, I have a cousin that almost hordes body lotions, soaps, bath bombs, etc. She cleans out her drawer and cabinets about once a year and gives the product away to her friends. I have not bought any bathroom lotions in probably 10 years because of her and my husband filling my stocking every year with bath stuff. I still have to go through and sort some out myself every few months.
Rori - Stretches/flexibility - I have terrible posture and have found if I'm not stretching regularly I am in terrible pain. It's crazy how important it is to our muscles and joints
Machka - I tried that touching hands behind my back, I guess I need to do more stretching LOL That's awesome. Like you I have never been able to touch more than my fingertips to the floor, although I can still touch them.
Barbara - I found when I was depressed I didn't have the energy or even the desire to clean. The depression is why I regained all of my weight I wouldn't even cook 90% of the time. I would grab some fast food on the way home almost nightly. Like others have suggested what helped me was writing in a Gratitude Journal. I had so much to be grateful for, writing it down helps me remember that. Another thing I do every single night before I go to bed is post a Positive quote of some kind on my facebook. When I'm searching for the perfect one, all the others seem to resonate with me. I hope you find your happiness soon. Even now I don't clean like I used to. The dust piles on, I can't tell you the last time I scrubbed, but I do sweep at least every other day. I usually do dishes while I'm making supper otherwise they "sit". I only do laundry every other week. I don't like clutter though, so keep things in their place all the time, if things are out of order for too long I get anxious and B**chy. My Grandmother and Mother would shake their heads at me, but it works for me and my peace and that's more important to me.
Lanette - Wasting away in retirement, this is so true. I remember the year my Grandfather retired. There were 6 of them all retired at the same time, by the end of the year 4 of them had passed. My grandparents said it was because they had nothing to keep them occupied and they just wasted away. I swear that the reason my Mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimers so young is because of loneliness after my Dad died. It was only a year and there was a great decline in her, she is now in a nursing home and is only 72. I agree with you about Alexa listening, I don't like that either. You talk about buying something and then you start getting ads.
Penny - What an interesting study. I truly believe each person has to find what works for them to lose weight.
I managed to get a walk in last night, my first one in 10 days! I'm glad I did because according to the forecast it might be another 10. I was never a walker until this year but it brings me so much joy and peace I really miss it now when I can't do it.

Tracey, I weighed the next day, and no change...yet. Today I am having my soup, and I had a rather substantial breakfast, so it should be a great day👍.

As part of my voice lessons I am working on posture and core muscles. There was just something on the news how your neck can affect your lower back and with all the people looking down at cell phones I see more problems on the horizon.
When I do Zumba I try to watch my posture too.
The core muscles (those in your stomach) are sometimes the culprit for back issues. When I took a class in posture from a nurse a few years ago she said also watch where your knees are in relation to hips when you sit. Most chairs are designed for men and our knee end up lower than our hips. You want your knees level or slightly above your hips when you sit. She worked on core and back muscles to strengthen good posture. After I took her class I adjusted my car seat so the back was straight and made sure my knee were not lower than my hips. I admit it is easier for me because I am 5 foot eight inches which is on the taller side. I liked how she said good posture can take 10 pounds off without dieting!
M and Michelle do you have any problems with your knee or feet? When I went to my PT for my knee he commented that my tight ham strings contributed to the problems with my knee and can cause foot problems too. I also occasionally do have issues with my feet too. Knee is much better. I continue to do exercises for it and losing the weight has helped. I still need to be careful. It reminds me with a twinge when I move wrong. Constant pain is gone! Yeah!

When I first took computer training in 1995 my practical was at a high school that was not set up properly for extra people. I had to work at a cafeteria table using a cafeteria plastic chair. By the second week, my shoulders were burning and I couldn't hold a pot of water. I was in agony and went to a doctor and was diagnosed with tendinitis. I suffered mostly silently until 2012 thinking that is what I had, popping Advil like candy to try to relieve pain at times. In 2012 I cried to my doctor and said I need to do something I can't handle this anymore. She sent me to see a physical therapist who immediately told me that I didn't have tendinitis, I only had poor posture. Since then, I have very little pain in my shoulders and know that when they are flared up it's because I am not holding my head over my shoulders correctly. In fixing the shoulders I have overcompensated twice and caused my hips to freeze up, and have had problems with my knees fixing them. It's a balancing act for me trying to figure out exactly how to sit, stand and walk to not cause myself pain. I have found though that the absolute best thing I can do for myself is move. Sitting for long periods causes me agony. Also, an ergonomic keyboard really helps me.3 -
Penny~ It was Meriden that I didnt fit in was only there 2 weeks..Hartford is basically a medicaid clinic, double ,triple book ,some show up ,some dont..they usually have me up there once a month when they have oral surgery because they triple book him and need someone to come behind and clean up,set up and keep up with instruments, but they threw a wrench into this because they booked the regular doctor too, with the compressor down, and them getting a loaner which might not have as much power as the one there, I dont know what will happen friday..
.. We shall see how the rest of the week plays out..1 -
Oh wow! My youngest Navy son just called! He will be graduating from A school Sept 7, then hang around getting dental work done, molars pulled, and then he has orders to an amphibious ship stationed in Sasebo, Japan!!! So after his dental work, he'll most likely get leave to come home. But then probably not see him for the next 4 years😢😢. They do get holidays but usually its 2 weeks. Traveling from Japan to home then back to Japan is brutal with no real down time! A couple of days so not really worth it. As a wife that has gone through The Japan Experience, I'm really excited for him! We talked about his coping issues, and he realizes his mistakes. Just better coping skills. He will be so busy living, and learning his job, that he will have no time to look at that. I apologized for not recognizing the signs, helping him to cope better. It was nice to hear him excited too. His two choices for a duty station were both Japan, so he got what he wanted. Well time to dip my soup, just had to share the great news!

This made me giggle^! If your hubby doesn't care for yellow, he may ask why you have painted your bathroom "p*ss yellow". I didn't paint my bathroom yellow, I painted it a warm, chocolate brown. My husband asked why I painted it the color of poo! LOL! I love yellow rooms, too! BUT...I just painted my warm yellow entryway and butter yellow living room, blue grey and robin's egg blue, respectively. It was a big jump for me, but I needed the change (plus, they say cooler colors keep kids calmer).
Tomorrow is a somewhat boring day as we are studying the U.S.A.. The three year olds have a hard time remembering where they live (country, city, state, etc.), so I thought it would be an easier day with food they are more familiar with (hot dogs and apple pie).
I believe Trucker's name is Sharon.

Margaret- I knew there were a couple of tall ones on here! It seems many of our group are shorter. I am also, 5'8". I used to have bad posture and slouch because I wanted to be the itty bitty girl that got the guys. THEN, when I turned 18, I met a girl at a summer camp I worked at and she was 5'10" and became my best friend and gave me the advice that stuck with me the rest of my life. "Stand up straight. And wear heels. It intimidates people and sometimes that is a good thing!" lol probably not the best advice, but it rings a little bit true and it made me stand up and sit nice and tall.7

Add me to the tall list, 5’ 10”.

Did a total body video at the gym this morning plus ab ripper 200, then walked 2 miles tonight. I am recommitted to my 10,000 steps a day since I have no excuses now.
My husband had an interesting piece of mail today. He drives a small pickup with an Air Force Veteran tag. He got a camera ticket for a Peach Pass violation on I-85. The photo of the license plate was his number, but it did not have the Air Force emblem. We couldn’t really tell what kind of vehicle it was, but it was obviously not a pickup. Not to mention we can’t remember the last time his truck has been on the interstate. He called. The person on the other end said she would take care of it. Hopefully, she does.
I went to a flooring store and looked at luxury vinyl tile today. Someone is coming out next week to give us an estimate to do the kitchen and laundry room. Hopefully we can afford to do it sooner rather than later.
Later, my friends.....

Hello folks. I gave up trying to catch-up reading the comments. Every time I try that - I get distracted and don't post.
I'm still experimenting with taking my blood glucose. What I've learned is - For me:
• Sugar is bad.
• Too many carbs are bad.
• Marketers lie. Read labels carefully.
• Exercise is good.
• Sleep is good.
Duh! LOL! But.., it's been good to see the actual effect of the carbs - and also the effect of limiting carbs and exercising - on my blood glucose numbers. Plus... I've lost a few pounds.
May try to go total Keto. See how that goes.
I'm still testing blood glucose. Started July 3rd.
I'm a shorty - at 5'0".

Okie, I'm right behind you at 5'9" -- by the afternoon I've shrunk to 5'8 1/2". Good reminder about posture Kelly, we can stand tall Amazon queens that we are, lol.
Katiebug - you are a girl on the move, lol. Strange about that photo ticket and your DH's license plate. Good thing he called them. None of this stuff is foolproof. How exciting to continue your remodeling.
Rebecca - that's some news about your youngest. Teeth all up to snuff then off to Japan area, wow. Hope he gets a quick visit before he departs. Will he be leaving from Bremerton? And by the way, one of the best ways I found to lose some weight was to go overboard a bit on carbs. So no worries on your extra intake last night. From what I've read lately, your body responds better if you kind of "shake up" calorie intake. That's why intermittent or 5:2 fasting works so well. The caveman gorged on Poptarts and then there wasn't much food for a couple days so he burned some fat. Works for me.
Ginger - great to see you popping on here! Good for you keeping track of your blood glucose and finding out what works in keeping it under control.
I found some "new" shoes already. Went closet shopping and found a barely worn pair of my favorite Easy Spirits! They are SOOOO comfortable. Will start the search for their replacements but at least I can walk without pain for a while.

Cooler SW WA State where the temperature has dropped 8 degrees in the past 1 1/4 hours. Hasn't blown much smoke out yet but it's going in the right direction.

Lanette, My brain is swimming with a funny scene of cavemen opening shiny packages, skewering each pop tart and holding over the flame! Haahaa!
I don't know where he'll fly out. When we went over on orders, we flew commercially out of LAX. We'll just have to wait and see.

MRI showed compression fracture of L4 probably because of osteoporosis. Treatment will be a nasal spray for a month and rest and severely limited walking. Besides that I am constipated from the prescription pain meds that weren't really helping much so she suggested switching to ibuprofen and tylenol and prune juice and Metamucil.16

Flight home delayed three hours. Will arrive in DFW at 1:45 A.M. if it doesn’t get cancelled.
Husband bonded with my sister’s foster kitten and is considering trying to figure logistics if us adopting her if sister doesn’t like her prospects at the shelter. And HE says I’m the one who shouldn’t meet or visit kittens- lol he is such a softie.

We landed back in capetown at a chic, hip hotel. We feel old amongst the modern decor, but we have a view of the harbor that is awesome. And thank goodness for a clean room and shower that works—last place was pretty awful
Today we drive to cape of good hope, almost the most southern point before anarctic. We will visit the “*kitten*” penguins. Hope to have some wonderful pics to post. Yesterday was a busy travel day so we hardly ate, I’m headed to the gym while DH sleeps then off to our scenic drive

Tracey – the new president gets voted in in March at the general meeting which is the second Wednesday of the month. Then there is the board meeting for the new and the old board the fourth Wednesday.
The new webmaster is building a new database for the website because the one the old webmaster made is slowly not working. Anyway, he keeps telling me over and over how he can’t have 2 people with the same email in this database. Finally, Vince wrote that what he should do is create a bogus email for the people who we either don’t have an email for or who share one with their spouse/significant other. I honestly don’t know why he couldn’t think of this. But whatever...
At least he did take away from me the ability to edit the website. I don’t want that. If there’s a problem, I’d always be wondering if it was me who did something. I don’t want that. Give me the features I need and I’m happy. And that’s what I have
Margaret – I don’t have problems with my knee or my feet. I do sometimes feel some pulling in my lower back and I’m sure that’s from my tight hamstrings. Great that you’re not in pain
Rebecca – so happy for you
Katie – we just got the NC Quick Pass. The website says that it covers EZPass, Epass, Peach Pass. I didn’t know NC or GA had any toll roads! Weird about that ticket. Let us know if you find out anything about it
Barbie – a compression fracture – oh no! Vince has that, too.

So I too had to get up from my recliner to see if I could touch my toes. i'm, happy to say I'm still able tp put my palms flat on the floor. Pretty sure I couldn't do that 125# ago. Of course can't remember trying!! I too am only 5'2"

Barbie - I'm sorry it wasn't better news.
Rori - I'm feeling every mile. But on the first of two nights in the oldest, tattiest hotel in the known world, then headed toward home. Met the new interim CEO, whose time is already stretching out to six months. I'll email you a few questions - no hurry on the answers.. I'm kind of afraid of what those may be.
Brain is no longer working, but I can still place my hands flat on the floor.
Exhaustion has set in, time to crash. At this point, if someone broke through the rather flimsy lock on the door, I'd tell them to take whatever they want, as long as they leave me alone and let me sleep.
