What a ugly day I spent from 11 am til 1745 back and forth sorting out my new phone. Yippee! I got 10 GB of data now. Do I can try to keep track of the site. God this moves so fast. 23 new posting. I’m crossed eyed already.
But did manage to do 3.2 km

Strange it was -2C this morning, I had frost on the windshield of my truck, roof of my garage and I was sure my garden would be done. Only the cucumbers and some of the Roma Tomatoes leaves are frozen, every else is fine.
Cherry & Beef Steak Tomatoes, potatoes, beets, carrots, peas, onions and garlic are all fine.[/quote]
Where is this cold weather?
How I wish it were here
Hope your veg don’t die.1 -

Plan for tonight was 5-7 km easy. I was almost cold when I set out a couple hours after supper as it was about 14C and I was in a tank top but I warmed up pretty quickly. Took a while for my legs to warm up but that's pretty normal for me after 2 rest days in a row.

Slooooow. I almost didn't get up because it's been an exhausting week at work. But then I thought, if I don't do it in the morning I'll definitely not do it, so I got my lazy a** out of bed.
To give you an idea of how slow I was, a tiny old lady with a wheezing cough (who probably shouldn't have been running anyway) passed me in the park. Like, whoosh. But I felt much better after doing it. Running is almost always better than no running.
Upcoming races:
20181027 Mogan Ultra 30k
20181118 Shanghai Marathon (maybe)Recommend your running watch...
I'm selling my Fitbit Alta HR because I just don't use it anymore. Since using Strava there is not really any point in using it for tracking (Strava is more accurate anyway). I easily get my 10k steps and have an app on my phone for the reminder to move (good when you spend a good chunk of your day sitting), and I honestly think I sleep better not knowing how much deep sleep I've had.
BUT it would be nice to have a GPS capable watch for long runs. Something I would probably only wear for running, so I don't have to have my phone on me. I have a Ipod shuffle for music (I think it still works, have to fire it up to test it out - I usually use my phone) so a watch would be great. Less to worry about on race day.
Recommendations please! and would you buy second hand? I'm not likely to be able to afford brand new anytime soon - given in NZ electronics tend to be 30% more expensive than the US.
Anyone know anythign about Timex Ironman GPS Watch? I can get a second hand one that's an unwanted gift for !150 ($98USD)@Avidkeo i have a spare garmin you can have. Its the 620. I have the charger, an hrm that should pair with it, but probably needs a battery and its not the fancy Run strap with all the wonderful metrics.
PM me your address if you want it at least until you find something, then you can donate it off. It did occasionally power cycle on me stopping a run, but never lost data.
@Avidkeo I've also got an old 620 that I could give you... dunno how this international shipping thing is done though.

I’m in ontario originally from vancouver bc it’s boiling hot here.0 -
Today's 5 miles felt stupidly harder than it should have. Yesterday was a rest day, and although it was 94 today it's been that hot before and I was okay. But today I felt kinda like throwing up from the heat, despite slowing way down. My nose has been stopped up all day so maybe I'm coming down with something. Usually I can tell in advance because my sugar will be high before I get other obvious symptoms, but my sugar seems about as expected.
We talked to a very nice triathloner at the trailhead. He was encouraging and also said I looked about 28, which was flattering. (Actually 50.)

9/1: 2 mi +ST
9/2: 4mi
9/3: 6.85mi
9/4: 1.5mi
Goal: 14.35/115 miles
9/3 Labor Day Road Race 10K
9/30 Wineglass Marathon
Set out for 4.5 mi last night, but my left hamstring was very tight. I ran slowly, but when I realized my pace was just slightly faster than what I can walk, I headed home to just stretch and roll the leg instead. I figure I don’t want to risk any injury only a few weeks out from Wineglass.5 -
Wow amazing @elise4270 and @noblsheep you are both incredibly generous. I'm so humbled and amazed at how incredible people are. I've PMd. @elise4270 - sorry about the delay, it was crazy at work and I'm just checking messages at 10:30pm before going to bed. @noblsheep ill message you if it doesn't work with Elise. I'm happy to pay shipping, for something small like this it shouldn't be too expensive.
Love you guys so much! OK sleep now and probably dream about running haha!2 -
F I F T E E N pages. I turn my back for a second and here we are....
No goal this month apart from get back running. I found my running mojo, but not yet my get-up-early-in-the-morning-mojo. It's there somewhere. I'm afraid to look for it under the bed because you know, monsters.
I DID get up this morning for a once round the park. It felt good (all one and a half miles of it), because I didn't stop for a walk. A few more consistent getting up for a run days and we'll be back on track.
Had to work late yesterday because I took an extended lunch break to watch the Tour of Britain race in the town nearest work. It's the most excitement to hit the town since the pit closures in the 1970',...
working late meant I didn't go to my Crossfit session, and my self-imposed rule is that if I cancel a session I have to book another later in the week - which means I still don't go to my run club this week. Oh well, I'm not back to running enough for them I think.
re: running whilst on holidays or travelling. I don't tend to, partly because many of my trips involve a lot of walking (work surveys of sculpture parks), or dancing (personal holidays at Swing dance events) so I need to keep my energy up. Or are dedicated walking weekends with a friend anyway. Later this month I am heading West, so if anyone has any ideas on trails near Steinbach/South-East Winnipeg that would be great (I'm visiting my sister who is a big outdoor hiking/canoeing/camping even when it's minus 35 degrees C fan).

I've been gone for 4 days - not even going to try to catch up with all the posts - yikes!
Walked Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day - it was 5ish miles in all so I'll log 4 of them since it was walking, not running. We had spectacular weather despite a forecast of all-day rain. Very overcast though so were robbed of a sunrise. For those not familiar - Mac Bridge connects upper and lower Michigan - it's really beautiful and about 4 miles across. One photo is my own, the other is not. The Labor Day Bridge Walk has been a Michigan tradition since 1957(?) or thereabouts. I read that around 25,000 people walked it this year - but I know there have been years when it's been as high as 50,000. However - what I did not know - is that this year they allowed 700 RUNNERS to start 20 minutes prior to the walkers. So of COURSE I will be back for that! Which made my husband groan since he was my transportation/ferry and isn't interested in doing that again.

Look at all you go!
My legs have been hurting since the race on Saturday, especially the shins - I pushed too hard I think. I was prevaricating as to whether going out last night would be a good idea, but decided to take a slow one and see. I got there and back okay, but there's weird aches and pains all over. I think it's more than time for a pair of new shoes. I'm going to have a look back and see how many miles my current ones have done. I've not been very consistent, but I have had them nearly 18 months.
01/09 Richmond 5K: time 35:42
04/09 2.6m: time 38min
Upcoming races:
20/10/18 Richmond River Run (10K)
07/04/19 Lincoln 10K5 -

So fun! We've driven over the bridge a few times now heading from Minnesota to Southern Ontario. Such a beautiful part of the country! I love that area but only come during the off season - I can't imagine how busy it can get there!!0 -
Wow...this was one of the hardest runs I can remember in a long time. Garmin says 79F, 79% humidity, and Feels Like temp of 79F , but I swear it felt like 95F and 99.9% humidity! I could barely breathe, my legs hurt from the new heavy lifting session I thought was a brilliant idea to start 10 days before marathon training, my earbuds died 3 miles in, pace was slower than a weekend long run, and so I decided to cut my 8 mile run short by 1 mile since everything was going bad. Only to realize I actually had only run 6. Where the hell did that other mile go?! Ugh, this weather has beaten me. You win Mother Nature. It wasn't even close.
