Congratulations to everyone who had their races over the past few days. You all are rock stars! I love reading everyone's recaps. And thank you to everyone for the support of my own race yesterday. Appreciate that very much.
I'm going to answer the question of the month later this week or next week. Between working 12 hour days at work and trying to fit in my running, there hasn't been much time for much else. Keeping up with this thread has fell by the wayside horribly, and I feel terrible. But hopefully things will calm down in a couple weeks and I'll be able to get some normalcy back in my life.
I hope everyone has a good start to the week! Keep up the amazing work with September goals!7 -
@ContraryMaryMary At least you finished the race. I wouldn't like all of that mud either! Hope all the fall hurt was your pride.
@zdyb23456 Hope Florence doesn't hit too hard. Stay safe.2 -
Didn't get any runs in over the weekend, so I'm a little bit behind. Hopefully, I can get back on track with my schedule this week. I skimmed over the 5 pages of comments I missed. Congratulations to those of you who completed races over the weekend and especially to all of those who accomplished PRs. You all are awesome and inspiring me to get my butt in gear and get out there! Thank you!

This morning was very frustrating. When I got up it was 64F with a dew point of 63. It was beautiful running weather, but Mondays are rest days so I was a little disappointed that I was going to miss the great weather after all the crappy weather we have had lately. But I usually take the dogs for a nice walk on my rest days so I thought at least we'll have good weather for that. I got ready and as we were leaving the house and I was trying to lock up somehow my min pin slipped out of her harness and took off. It was still dark and she's a little black dog who tends to like to run around while you chase her. She was heading around the block towards some neighbor's who have dogs (one has actually bitten me before) and even though I don't think they were out I really didn't know because it was dark and I wasn't going to go over there. I knew if I tried to "chase" her she would just keep avoiding me so I decided to head off with my collie and see if she would follow us. First I had to locate the leash I had dropped in the front yard which took a few minutes since it was dark. But I found it and Pup and I headed out towards our usual well lit route. We went about a block and I kept checking to see if Bunny was following us. She was not. There was a really cute calico cat following us, but no Bunny. So we turned back toward home and there she was on the front sidewalk. I managed to get her back on her leash and all three of us headed out this time. My dogs are usually well behaved on their leashes, but for some reason both dogs kept pulling on their leads and wanting to stop and sniff everything. I was worried that one or both of them was going to slip out on me again. I kind of felt like Bunny had had enough sniffing time and even Pup had run around free some while I was trying to find the dropped leash. She is just really good about coming to me when I call her so I don't worry about her too much. I was just feeling so annoyed and frustrated that I was not enjoying the walk at all. So I decided to cut the walk short and go for a run instead.
I only had about 20 minutes so I was just able to get 2 miles in, but it was a wonderful run. Even though it was humid, with the cool temperature and the low dew point I barely noticed the humidity. I ran the first mile in 9:46 which is my fastest mile time on my Garmin. (I may have had a faster mile in a 5K race before I got the Garmin), but it was still a very fast mile for me. The 2nd mile was 10:21 so my average was 10:04. That is fast for me. It makes me feel like I really have a shot at finally running a 5K in under 30 minutes this fall. (my record is 30:46)
I'm really glad that I ran this morning. It helped me to clear my head and get into a better mood and relieve some of the stress that I was feeling. I hope that we'll have good weather again tomorrow.
Out of curiosity I checked my running dynamics. For today's run my Average Run cadence was 168 spm, Max Run cadence 180 spm and Average Stride length .95 m. I had a faster than usual run today though. My average stride length for the last 7 days was .9 and for the last 4 weeks was .87. My average cadence for the last 7 days was 165 and the last 4 weeks was 163. I'm not really sure if any of that is good or bad. I'm not tall (around 5'3.5" - 5'4").
@jele30 What an awesome race! I really like the dog tags for finishers.
@ContraryMaryMary That is an awfully muddy race. I would be one of the ones that hated that one. lol
@mobycarp Another great race and cool hat. Congrats on submitting your registration for Boston.
@MegaMooseEsq Great job on your first HM!
@missevil Great job to you too on your first 5K race!
@RunsOnEspresso I'm sorry about the marathon.
I'm sure I missed some other great races this weekend. I try to read every post, but sometimes they get away from me.
2018 races:
5/19/18: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - 2:43:59.7. - 2nd place AG
11/10/18: Wags & Whiskers 5K8 -
I'm cranky because my ankle felt great all weekend but now it feels off again. It's a tight, almost-painful feeling across the inside ankle bone and wrapping around to the underside of my foot (along the arch).
I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow and will mention it - and probably won't run tomorrow either. I should probably try to find a PT as well I suppose.7 -
@ContraryMaryMary - congrats for tackling that run - but wow that is a serious muddy mess! None of those types runs appeal to me - mud runs - or the color runs when they throw cornstarch crap at you.
@midwesterner85 - 4:44:57 is FANTASTIC - and you were last in your age group? Seriously - I am in AWE!!!!
I am LOVING the break from heat and humidity and it shows in my times and energy level. Ran 5 miles this morning and I feel fantastic - as opposed to running 3 and feeling like death. I'm feeling really optimistic about my upcoming half.
June goal - 44/44
July goal - 52/52
August goal - 55/57 miles
Sept goal - 30/60 miles
Sept. 30 - Wineglass Half Marathon; Corning, NY
October 7 - Viking Dash Half Marathon; Toledo, OH

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Runners are such a great group to belong to!
I can't say I'm a 100% better but I sat down and figured out a new training plan to get me to a half marathon. I'm not sure this will be a PR but I'm aiming for 2:30. I think that's doable. I'm usually between 2:20 and 2:45. I also want to have fun since I'll be running the strip at night. Need to find some glow sticks. Where do ravers shop? 😂8 -
So ran in to a little water on my lunch walk...
(note, that sign in the first picture is at least 7 feet tall, and used to be on a wall well about the river water line)8 -

I may have chuckled a bit at this as we prep for Florence to hit the coastline north of us and bring torrential downpours for a bit.
ETA:bet @HonuNui can relate to this pic sir.0 -

Try your local camping supply store or Halloween shop for the glow sticks or check these out:

We are pretty far inland here in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Not that you can tell by these pictures...1 -
@PastorVincent I feel ya', but even as far inland as Minnesota(where I used to live) had high water signs for certain roads and snow melt is spring could flood certain areas out.0

I'm loving looking at everyone's photos from their runs and races. Here is the starter with his starting gun from my race on Saturday. That's what you get when you run a race in Concord, MA.
17 -
9/1 16.7 miles
9/2 rest
9/3 5 miles treadmill
9/4 9.21 miles
9/5 rest
9/6 10 miles
9/7 14 miles
9/8 4miles
9/9 rest
9/10 9.41 miles
Intervals this morning. It felt like the humidity was a tad bit lower and I tried to stick to a shady route.
2 mile warm up, then 6x 1200m with 2:30min rests, then 2 mile cool down. My 1200s were 8:30min/mi or better so I was pretty happy given how hot it was.
Florence is really starting to give me anxiety. It's a sit and wait for doom or maybe not??? We're at the edge of the cone of uncertainty so we aren't sure if we'll get hit or not. At the least, we'll get strong winds and lots of rain. I had to fill up the gas tank and the lines for gas were long already. Stores are selling out on supplies and the storm isn't supposed to hit until Thursday.
