Hey, "normal" is not where you wanna be 😉2 -
Had a PT session this morning, lower body circuit, then went for a quick jog to keep legs from being sore later. 1.36 miles in 17 minutes per endomondo, included cool down walk. Was sprinkling rain when I started but that shut down about 100 yards into the run. Totals for the month so far

Ran 2 miles this morning - possibly the last run before Sunday's half. Unless I do a couple on the treadmill in Friday night's hotel. We'll see. Trying to juggle the "being prepared" with the "don't injure yourself."
June goal - 44/44
July goal - 52/52
August goal - 55/57 miles
Sept goal - 61/60 miles
Sept. 30 - Wineglass Half Marathon; Corning, NY
October 7 - Viking Dash Half Marathon; Toledo, OH4 -
no run last night-funeral. and also found out another casual friend died earlier in aug a day or two after i saw her. she had copd and the humidity got her. so i feel sapped.
the lawn is turning into a jungle but i'll try to make up my hills tonight. I need to be sticking better to the plan15 -

That's so awesome. Fingers and toes tightly crossed for you!
I spoke too soon. Massage therapist found all sorts of new spots today. And while the men are definitely stronger, the women massage therapists where I'm doing therapy show no mercy. Tomorrow I'm going to try going for a walk and stretching before I go, so everything isn't as tight going in. But I'm feeling good - who knows, maybe the area around my hips is always tight?
My new profile pic was taken on vacation a few weeks ago. I looked through our other pictures, and just like in this one, I wasn't really even STANDING straight at that point. And yet I ran that 10k three days later anyway. Uggggh.5 -

Today's 5.5 mile run puts me over my goal for September. It was a good run. When I went to bed last night the weather said that a cold front would be coming in around midnight and it was supposed to rain almost all day today. I figured I wouldn't get a run in today, but if I had a good window I might try to get one in. When I got up this morning it was not raining and it wasn't very cool either. So off I went. It was nice enough at ~69F. There was a light 6mph north wind and it was mostly clear and the moon was still very pretty this morning and I could see quite a few stars too. About halfway through the run the clouds started moving in and it felt more humid and less pleasant. When I got home I was kind of wondering what happened to the cold front. I went in the front door and grabbed a gatorade and went to the back to let the dogs out. When I opened my door I saw that the cold front had arrived. It was much cooler and the wind was really blowing. I'm so glad I was able to get a nice run in this morning. Sunday when I ran it was cloudy and drizzling and I kind of enjoyed that. But this morning it was raining with 20 mpf north winds. I would find that a lot less pleasant and I am glad I beat it this morning.

Besides the week crawling by, my runs have been good. Last weekend we had a cool front move in that cooled things down into the low 50s F for my morning runs. I continued to just wear shorts and T but realized I needed to locate my cold running gear. I came across my bottoms without a problem but could not remember where I had stored the tops and after 3 days of looking off and on, finally found them in the closet of the spare bedroom... at the time I'm sure I felt like I would remember putting them there... another old-age oxymoron... So, anyway, Monday and Tuesday runs were a little warmer (mid-upper 60s), but another cold front moved through last night and the temp for my run this morning was 48 F, so I decided to run with shorts and a 1/4 zip long sleeve. I probably could have gotten by with just a T, but didn't get too hot, so it worked out.
Have a great day!

@Scott6255 My K-tape doesn't last more than about a day and a half. I think in my case it is the particular placement though. There's a strip around the back of the ankle reinforcing the post-tib taping and that back piece seems to come off and drag the other piece with it. I think it catches on bedding when I sleep, but I'm not sleeping with socks on...1
-
Yeah @sarahthes I slept with an Ace bandage wrapped around my leg covering all of the KT. Woke up with all the tape securely on, but during and after the run, it was just falling off. I have it for my posterior shin splint (inside of lower leg). So no weird body parts to route around1

Wow! Thanks for all the love, everyone. I'm feeling anxious today, and I had a hard time doing my run. So, I stuck to the schedule and did Week 6 Day 2. I have now officially been told no running for two weeks, and no working for at least a few days, so I will not meet my monthly goal. That is nothing new. Sigh.
I should have plenty of time on my hands, and I will be sure to check in and be inspired by all you lovely folks.
There were plenty of laughs in here while I was catching up, and I wish I could have pointed them all out to show my appreciation. We need a laugh button.

I guess I better call @amymoreorless up for tips on how to take public showers on my deck...
Pro Tip: I recommend warming the water first. Unless you don’t have any water to make coffee. A bucket of cold water will wake you better than a few dozen shots of expresso.6 -
juliet3455 wrote: »@amymoreorless Do you scrunch your toes when you run? I have a friend who does that and she gets blisters On the tips of her toes - sound familiar??
Yes, I am pretty sure that’s the issue. The end of toe blisters only happen when I run over 10 miles at a quicker pace. I lose at least one toenail after every half marathon. I have some pretty wicked calluses at the end of my toes.5 -

Today I got to run 2.02 miles, and it turns out that mid-rise capris + TOM + fartleks = not so comfy. So it goes. I’ve got another pair coming on Friday from my favorite Amazon Chinese brand (Baleaf) which should be more comfortable assuming the capris hit around where their shorts do. Naturally, I have just now noticed that I did not in fact order the high-waisted version so an exchange might be in order, but so it goes - thank you Amazon Prime. I’m not in a huge hurry in any case - today was the coldest day of the season so far and I’d have been fine in shorts. I also have a pair of arm sleeves coming, as I've enjoyed running in tanks much more than tees and am thinking to experiment with tank + sleeves as the weather gets cooler.
Non running related PR today - I went up a half pound on my overhead press! Being genetically disadvantaged in the area of upper-body-strength, I've struggled with the OHP since I started lifting weights. A little while ago I switched from a two-hand seated press to one-hand kneeling and have been stuck at 18 pounds for a little little while. But today I decided to give 18.5 a try and I did it! Not going to lie, I kissed my left bicep when I finished that last set. Stupid weak-*kitten* left bicep. Michelle Obama arms here I come!

I liked having the awesome button, but I like "hugs" better - sometimes it's hard to think of something comforting/commiserating/sympathetic to say and it's better than nothing. "Funny" seems like it has a little too much potential to get mean - I actually suspect that "woo" was originally supposed to be a cheer and got co-opted because people wanted a way to express displeasure (and the double-meaning didn't help).10 -

Someone looked at the code and apparently it was originally WTF, and if you look at the face it's a" really?? " face. I like the woo button on other threads, you know when people say they are skinny fat, or in starvation mode, or that their juice cleanse is the best thing since sliced bread. Though since finding you guys I don't venture to other treads much.
Question about accuracy. How have people found the Strava app for accuracy? I did a 7k run this morning, in 38.23 which is an average of around 5:30/km if I math properly. But my previous runs which were slightly faster 37:40 for example list my average pace at 5:50.3 -

Disclaimer: I do not use the Strava app to record my runs. Garmin records the runs, and the data gets fed to Strava. So any accuracy issues I have are Garmin's issues, not Strava's.
General discussion: An app relies on the underlying hardware for GPS/location issues. Way back when, before I had a Garmin watch, I used the MapMyRun app. I started out with an iPod that had GPS. That was so inaccurate it was pointless. When I got my first smart phone, and iPhone 5, the *same app* became accurate enough to use.
So . . . I don't think it's totally fair to lay the accuracy issues at the feet of the Strava app. If you are using the Strava app to record, it's a combination of the Strava app and the hardware it's running on. Some phones will have higher quality GPS/location services than others, and it's possible for iPhones on two different carriers to have different accuracy due to Apple using cell towers as part of Location Services.
If you're not using the Strava app to record, you need to look back at whatever you are using to record the run.

So I now have to truly step my game up as I have registered for the Haunted Half in Jonesborough, TN. Placing overall or age group is unlikely, but I know I will not be last....the 1st place overall last year ran it in 5:25 mile pace and my age group 1st place was 1hr 27min 19sec. Ummmm yeah, sooo not happening for this guy. But WTH I am gonna finish it.
ETA: They serve beer at the finish, very much a deciding factor.14 -

Ah yes very good point. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy A5 - so mid range and using cell towers is not really a thing here, we only have one so it cant really triangulate lol.
Ok I had a huge reply typed out but I just realised Strava isn't comparing like for like, I thought on the pace analysis it was giving me only the 7k runs, but nope, its giving me all runs 6 -7km on this course. On the 19th I did 6.5km in 37:56 and today I did 7km in 38:23 - so that makes sense. I actually did increase my pace dramatically. Gone from 6 min/km at the end of July to 5:29 min/km this morning - that's closer to my 5k pace (fastst is 5:21 so far)... Whoa. I usually do 6 or 6.5 during the week, with a long run on the weekends. I was getting worried cause this morning I used a Garmin watch, not my phone, and uploaded the data to Strava so thought the HUGE discrepancy might have been that, but nope, I'm getting faster over 7km (apparently).
I guess that's my long winded rambling way of asking, trust Garmin?9 -
