@RunsOnEspresso It is.
That's too cold. I need a nice 70-80 year round with very little humidity 😂1 -

Battery? I know a nice Australian woman who lives in the area; she told a story of having trouble buying batteries because she pronounced it in the Australian fashion and the sales clerks couldn't tell what she was talking about. It also didn't help that her example was, "what you'd put in a torch." (Americans call them "flashlights.")
What's the quotation? "Two countries separated by a common language", or something like that. You should have seen the mime show my husband put on in Home Depot while trying to buy a bath plug. We eventually realized we should have asked for a tub stopper. Or rather seeing as we're in Boston, a tub stoppah.
Hm, I think I'd call it a drain stopper/plug. Sometimes you can't win for trying!1 -
Nice and cool this morning, with low humidity finally. It. Was. Heaven. Basically, it was the first time in months that I've finished a run where my top was still dry. It's supposed to be more of the same tomorrow, so hopefully summer has finally decided to call it a day.

September running total to date – 144.14
Nominal September mileage goal: 165 miles
Real Goals: Run Oak Tree well, winning my age group and finishing healthy. Build base/train toward Wineglass, running PG XC #1 so as not to be injured, and running the USATF Masters XC Championship so as not to be injured. Run Wineglass easy, finishing healthy for a good recovery in October.
Today's notes – Went to club practice. Beautiful weather, 62º F (17º C) and low humidity. Ran the warmup with our 4th runner from last Sunday, in town to start working out with the club. Had a nice conversation, and noticed a potentially annoying sensation in my right lower calf. Took an S-cap on the theory I might be low on electrolytes.
The assigned workout was 2-3 x 10 minutes at threshold w/2 minutes recovery. I could do that; but not today. I did the traditional workout for a Thursday before a marathon: 20 minutes easy, 10 minutes MP, 10 minutes easy. Coach had Frank run with me. What's your easy? About 8:00 per mile. Okay, I'll try to keep up.
Ended up running 20 minutes averaging 7:46 per mile, 10 minutes averaging 7:20, 10 minutes averaging 8:03 (but the last 5 or 6 minutes on grass.) Frank had no trouble keeping up, and it was a good confidence builder for him. I was pleased with being able to rein in the pace when we got going too fast, and with my heart rate staying where I want it for running easy or MP.
Rest day tomorrow. Travel day Saturday. Wineglass on Sunday, which should put me over my nominal monthly mileage goal on the last day of the month. I may get in a couple miles on the last part of the course Saturday, or I may not. Probably won't get the final September update in until late Monday October 1.
Progress versus September goals: On track for nominal mileage goal. Ran Oak Tree well, won my age group, finish healthy. Built the base, and was able to do some speed work training toward Wineglass. Ran PG XC #1 and the USATF Masters XC Championship without injury, with a bonus result of ending up on the winning M 60+ team for the championship. Still need to run Wineglass easy enough to have a good recovery in October.
Other news: Today BAA announced that the cutoff for Boston 2019 is 4:52 faster than the BQ target, and made all the BQ targets for Boston 2020 faster than 2019 by 5 minutes. That means I can register for Boston 2020 on the first day of registration if I run Wineglass in under 3:30. As the tag line says, no pressure. There are advantages to being an old fart.

New toy is here! Thank you so much @elise4270 I can't wait to try it out!
17 -
Yay! @Avidkeo hooray! I reset it, so it should be like new setting up. Manual is available online.
I'm out of things to binge watch. Then remembered you tube is on my roku. I found "The Run Experience". They seem to be a good resource.
If anyone needs a workout for runners there was a free subscribe thing. Be really good to build up those running muscles and address potential issues before they sideline us.
I wanna do it. But I'm goona think on it some. I may wait to see the doc again. Or try it.. heck it may be just what i need.

Would "hug" ya, but i dont wanna be sick. **covers mouth and nose with shirt, holds breath, pats you on the back, grabs purell**".
Allergens are high here. My cat was even sneezy sick for a few days. I woke with swollen eyes too. Might be because said sick cat slept on my pillow...5 -
Plan was for 8.4 miles of dirt trails with rolling hills in the dark. I only got 7.6 miles in.
Pace was slow - I blame the dark and being out of shape. Still, it was faster than the same trails on Sun. during the day when I just wasn't feeling it (but was also a few more miles).

Re: accents.
Most of you I read in British English (I’m a southerner). Except @Elise4270 who I read “in that really flat, drawling accent you sometimes hear from people who are making fun of American accents”. It’s the way she chats.
There’s ways some of you write that amuse me. @MobyCarp has a very British turn of phrase. But us Brits are good at understanding Aussie and US lingo as we watch so much of your tv.
I spent a couple of years living in Japan and working with Americans and Canadians. I’m with my sister now, who’s been in Canada eight years, and while some of the words are Canadian (trunk, parkade, garbage) they’re all said in a British accent which is odd.
Me however, I had an Aussie flatmate fifteen years ago. Just last week someone asked me where I was from as I had an Aussie accent. I’m terrible at picking up accents. If only my Welsh accent didn’t veer into Pakistani....5 -

Yeah, I 'subscribed' to them over a year ago, and yes, they have some good videos and tips. But the only thing the subscription does is email you everyday to try to get you to join their paid online coaching program. I've been tempted several times, but have never pulled the trigger.4 -

....
Which is done ironically, making fun if the yah-hoo's i wish not to be a part of. But am... "Y'all" is more often used, in my world as : cmon, listen up, often with attitude of inattention and disbelief.
There should be a way to share short audio clips of one reading a post....
ETA there may be a way using Google drive.. ohh lunch time project.5 -
If anyone wants to hear my complete lack of accent, I have a YoutTube Channel, plus dozens of my sermons online... just Google my full name should bring them up.3

They were a sponsor for the SF Marathon (SF based group) and I got the emails as part of the all race promos. I haven't joined the online coaching program but I did subscribe to the youtube channel. I just look at the email and delete. They have some great training videos. Last week they had one on hip rotation that is really good and just what I needed. If I ever decided I wanted an online coach they would probably be my choice.3 -

I did my shorter long run this morning before I head to the Adirondacks for the weekend. I decided a cut-back week was a good idea for various reasons, such as being so very tired, but mainly because I didn't want to run 20 miles either by myself today before driving or in the mountains. I'm wimpier than some. I will do some running there for sure, but shorter distances - I already did hill repeats this week!
That brings me to my goal for the month which I thought was going to be a stretch, and my highest mileage month so far. Maybe the highest I'll ever get to. Marine Corps Marathon is 29 days away.
I'm off to enjoy some R&R and hopefully some beautiful fall foliage. Good luck to everyone who has races this weekend, and to all the long runners, taperers, and those doing any running at all.

Not sermons but I've got a few clips on youtube and IGTV. I hate my voice so I am trying to move beyond that by making short videos. lol5 -
I have a few episodes of my running videos on YouTube as well... series cancelled due to forest fire smoke! LOL...3

Popping in to say I'm doing fine. Thanks again for all the well wishes. The wide excision went smoothly, and I was only in pain for about 30 hours after. I woke up feeling simply sore. My surgeon said I could run again as soon as the tight, vice-like feeling had passed and there was no fresh bleeding. I may not be off as long as I had expected, which would be great for not losing my progress and also for my mental health as I have to wait two to three weeks for the biopsy results.16
-
@katharmonic You had an incredible month. Congratulations! Enjoy your well-deserved R&R.0
-
@RunRachelleRun Glad to hear the excision went without any issues; hoping for the best.
Re accents - I'm a Brit living in Texas...which means the following exchange once took place:
Wife: Your son just said "*kitten*"
Me: Why are you looking at me?
Wife: He said it with a British accent
Me: *kitten*
Today's run continued with the same coolness as yesterday, and it was beyond awesome. I was even able to pick up the pace in the middle, and then kick things up another notch in the last five miles. Couldn't do recently that with the heat and humidity bogging me down.
This will probably be the last run from me for this month, so September's a wrap and see you all in the October thread.

@RunRachelleRun 30 hours? Wow. I'm not regretting bailing on mine. Which i still havent heard back on... I may make a phone call.
@garygse i wanna know what kitten word was used... How old was he when he said kitten? Was it cute? Or teenage kittens? Wish my kids were tex-brit kitten cute.7 -
@Elise4270 yeah, I wish she had given me some pain meds. Then again, my liver area was sore up until the next afternoon, I assume from the anesthetic, so maybe it is good that she didn’t.
It wasn’t as bad as my brain had anticipated. Melanoma has good odds when caught early. I would definitely try to get that pathology report. If it is melanoma, don’t wait. I don’t know much about the other types, but I would think they should still be removed - maybe they don’t need to take as big of margins.4 -
@garygse That’s funny. My son swore for the first time using a British accent when he was nine. It was because my husband had played a video game with him called The Getaway (I think), which was set in London. I was so annoyed, but it was hilarious. Are you picking up the Texas drawl?0
