Ahhh! Too cute!!!! Love it! I had no idea what a Kiwi accent sounded like!. I did have to get on the computer to watch it. DH said we need to move to New Zealand. I'd be okay with that. Your girls are so sweet!
I am going to do the race tomorrow. Its just a 5k. And i ate ice cream and pizza tonight so i need some punishment miles
LOL yes come visit at least! Haha. Our Prime Minister was on colbert the other day, the whole country was so proud lol4 -
@_nikkiwolf_ What a beauty!
10K trails and that's September for me, next two days are rest days and we need to catch up on work. This is my first month running 60 miles, and so far my legs feel fine, although my husband has been having ankle issues.
Speaking of legs, I always run with a side-supportive knee brace because of my missing ACL, and I need a new one - the metal support is coming out. So today I was running with a little knee sleeve on top of the other brace to hold it together. The end result must have looked pretty sorrowful because two people stopped me to ask if I was okay. One guy said to my husband, "What happened? She run too fast for you, you had to kick her in the knee so you could keep up?"
The weather today was perfect running weather, about 66, still pretty humid but the dewpoint was only 62 and we've been running with it about 75. It was so nice not to finish our run dripping wet and guzzling nuun. We saw a big fat bunny who apparently believed if he stayed still enough he was invisible. He kept this up, sitting right in the middle of the trail, until we were almost on top of him, then lost his mind and jumped straight up into the air, before dashing straight up and over an embankment.
Thanks to the weather we felt like we could really run all out, and since last run was an unplanned easy run due to ankle issues, and today we both felt fine, we indulged ourselves and opened up the throttle. Would love to know what our pace was but of course the gps was being flaky. Not that it really matters on trails, time is so dependent on terrain. Regardless it felt great.7 -

I'll have to find the PM on Colbert! Loved his Colbert report... I havent watched him since he took over for Letterman. DH and I are (at the moment) serious about a trip in the next year or so. We are going to Hawaii in January, then we'll try saving for a bigger trip. Fingers crossed for early- mid 2020. Haha!3 -

26 km/16mi today, 2 weeks till Melbourne Marathon. (Did my big long run for this marathon last Saturday (36km/22mi).)
Today I ran uphill to the next town and back down (17km/11mi) then did parkrun (5km) pretty fast, then jogged 4 km to cool down. Pretty amazed how fast I managed. Gradient-adjusted average pace was 6:14/km (10:02/mi) (190 metres / 623 ft of elevation).
Studying my half-marathon spreadsheet intently, this was a very strong run for me! Garmin says it was mostly in Zone 2! WTF?! Really, really trying not to get too cocky about the marathon now! Garmin overall time includes a wait while the parkrun announcements were on. Was hard to get going again! Strava moving time was 2:42:13.
Ate a cinnamon donut, a raspberry & white chocolate oat protein bar, and a Wiggle mocha caffeine gel.
This was my 50th run of over 20 km distance since I started running 3 years and 1 week ago.

@ContraryMaryMary good luck for tomorrow!
@orphia nice run, and beautiful pics. I can't believe it's only 2 weeks away3 -
Hi all. Yes I’m still alive lol. My fall back in August at my trail race badly bruised my bones in my knees according to the orthopedic doctor. After 2 weeks of pretty bad pain not getting better I went. He said though running won’t make them worse it will continue to hurt like hell. So he recommended not to run until the end of the month. I have been running here and there and he’s right the next day or so it hurts like hell to bend my knees. He was actually in the race and said he was impressed I was able to finish lol.
I’m going to try to skim the thread to see how everyone is. I’ve been so busy at work and if I’m not at one of Skip’s meets on Saturday I’m at a high school meet. She’s doing great enjoying college for the most part. Some dorm girl drama but hopefully that is done for now. She’s running good and her coach is proud of her times and work ethic.
I’m in Gainesville GA now getting ready to head over to her meet this morning. Her first 6K distance.
Is the October challenge posted yet? I didn’t see it. Thanks.11 -

@RunRachelleRun glad it went as ok as possible.
@Orphia those photos made me want to get there and run with you, beautiful!
Awesome 5k race last night. It was organised by the National Police force and I discovered that I may be the most law-abiding soul out there, but circle a police helicopter over my head and oh boy does my pace pick up LOL. My watch didn't register properly but I think I was about 30 seconds faster per kilometre than I usually run by myself hehehe. The eye candy in uniforms along the route might have helped too O:-)

No October thread yet. I hadnt realized September had ticked away already.
Glad you are doing alright. I fell off my bike a few years back. i couldn't unclip fast enough at a 4 way and landed on my knee at the tibia causing a bone bruise. I think that took 6 months to heal. I was lucky it was just the tibia which is a non weight bearing bone.5 -

9/30 Wineglass Marathon
I ran an easy 2 miles yesterday near my in-laws’ cabin. Today will be a rest day before the marathon tomorrow.
I went to the expo yesterday, and I had sooo been looking forward to meeting Bart Yasso (he said on Facebook he’d be there Friday afternoon, and I’m reading his book, and I’d hope to have him sign it), but he wasn’t there. I got a pretty awesome swag bag though, and hubby bought me a cool reflective skull shirt.
Today the family is heading to the Grape Festival in Naples.

Nice @marisap2010 . I like the shirt this year. I wear mine from the half last year all the time, it's one of my favorites. Have a great day and good luck tomorrow! Can't wait to hear how it goes.

An easy paced 5 miles this morning in Lake Placid. It had rained overnight or early in the morning but was starting to clear as I headed out. I felt stiff and sore but after about 3 miles it was feeling better. The best part though was that I finished up at my favorite breakfast place (by design - I kept circling until I had 5 miles at that spot) and had a fabulous brunch complete with a bloody mary AND a mimosa. LOL. I ordered the bloody mary because they have the most awesome ones filled with veggies (good for you!) and then the bartender had a mistake on an order and offered up the mimosa for free. Who am I to turn down a free mimosa? I take it as a good omen and a reward for good behavior.
I'm hoping to do a little hiking and maybe some kayaking later today. It's fairly cloudy but the sun is peeking out now and then and the leaves are starting to be really beautiful. I don't have time budgeted to do a full high peak hike but have a shorter one planned that is supposed to offer some great views of the high peaks. This is definitely my happy place, so whatever I get done it's all good. I'm sitting in my hotel room looking out at the lake and foothills and still on a buzz from my brunch cocktails. What could be better?

midwesterner85 wrote: »@_nikkiwolf_ Is that an elk? Unfortunately, we don't have them here. We do have loads and loads of deer, turkey, lots of rabbits, various birds, etc. I even saw a possum last night when trail running in the dark and someone told me there is a cougar with cubs there. I'm not sure how credible that is because it is extremely rare to have female cougars here in Iowa. We get lots of young males, though.
Cougars are very territorial, so male cougars have a big area and lots of females. Young males get kicked out at less than a year old and have to find their own territory by either fighting for it or moving on to a place without a male already. They just keep going and going further east and end up in Iowa from western SD and western NE.
There are cougars in the mountains too, but super rare. I only know one person who claims to have seen one. The most exiting animals I met on a run so far were foxes and wild boar.5 -
@marisap2010 that shirt is awesome! Good luck tomorrow.
I ran a 5k road race today. Perfect running conditions and I came 3rd in my age group. Got a medal for my efforts too.

Hit my goal for the month! Looking forward to a little cooler weather and some rain from Rosa. Was a little slower than my last long run but I ran more. I took short walk breaks. Enjoyed the view. Texted with friends. I was just taking my time and enjoying the run.
Now I need to figure out the October goal in anticipation of the new thread.8 -
Also, I want to add a new possible run to my 2019 list... I saw the medal for it and love it. I did this run several years ago when it was just a small, casual run. It's since morphed into a huge deal and I haven't done it since. For no real reason, just didn't get around to it. The back of the medal is what drew me in. IDEA stands for something and of course, now I can't find it.
https://priderun.phxfr.org/phoenix/5 -
10.5 km - West Hill from Tims.
All I can say is I struggled right from the first step. A tale of 2 runs - uphill to the 5km turn and then downhill back to the start. Made the right decision to call it and turn at the 5k mark. Tomorrows another day.
To many travel days with work this summer = not enough running. Have had 10 travel days with work in the last 2 weeks so it has really interfered with my running-training. We are replacing a 30 year old Telecom system that covers the whole Province of Alberta so lots of work getting equipment in place for the transition. Fortunately I am now down to the last 3 sites and they are all closer to my home office. Something about getting home at 8-9pm after a 12-14hr day and 300-700km of driving really beats up on getting out for a run.

@BruinsGal_91 Well done!2

No running today, and that's okay. I drove, I walked a lot, and I took a few pictures. @marisap2010 already showed you the shirt, split of champagne, and wine glass; mine look substantially the same. I did find a magnet at the expo that I just had to buy:
And I got a few scenery shots while walking the last mile of the course with my sister:
That's the Chemung River. First shot is view downstream from the Bridge Street bridge. Next two are the embankment seen from the course, then view of the river from top of the embankment. And since I was up there anyway, the last shot is a view of the Bridge Street bridge from further upriver.
Pasta tonight. Have to be up early tomorrow.13 -

Haven't been checking in. Too much fun running around in Ireland.
Is tomorrow the last day of the month already? Jeez. Guess that means I'll be falling a few kms short of my goal this month, as we're getting a pretty early start and I don't think I'll have time for 13km.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, sure wish I could join you.

So, no birthday run for me today. I have been having a few health problems since my long run / dehydration episode on Wednesday. TMI warning and cautionary hydration tale....
The heat and humidity pushed me into pretty bad dehydration the last few miles of my 16 mile run. I did not hydrate at all the day before. Stupid!!! I felt like crap Wednesday & Thursday but felt better on Friday. So, I ran Friday morning ... and then started peeing blood. I immediately went to
Urgent care. Lab work showed I temporarily damaged my kidneys. Apparently, people who run marathons always stress their kidneys a little on long runs. My 16 miler, coupled with dehydration / heat / humidity/ ibuprofen use, stressed them more than a little. Anyway, the kidneys will heal over the next week or so BUT....
Everyone make sure you are well hydrated on long runs please!!!!!!
