Been extremely busy. Weight is very, very slowly going down. I've been staying very close to my calorie goal. Just like Lucy I've been extremely hungry. I think my body is noticing I'm eating less and complaining.

Michelle—My mom taught me to crochet when I was younger, and I only knew one stitch. I decided to relearn it, and taught myself how to do most stitches and read patterns. I actually made a blanket that won a blue ribbon at the NC State Fair. I still have trouble following patterns in the round. There are many tutorials on youtube if you need a visual guide. I've learned several stitches that way. The hardest part of crochet, is learning how to hold and turn the hook. My grandma could knit and crochet. She made the granddaughters ponchos one year. She was a busy crafter.

Willow—Good luck with your oldies. Intention is key.

Lisa—I am so envious! I've written four books, but haven't yet figured out what to do with them to get them on Amazon. Every time I think I've got it figured, they change the rules. I'm not technical, so the terminology confounds me, and so I edit one more time. I admire someone who can write poetry. It's definitely an art. I can write pages and pages of fiction, but the imagery—and brevity—in poetry eludes me.

Paige—Your fur family is adorable. I've got a chow chow dog we sort of rescued, when he didn't get along with his owner's other dogs. Then we found out his owner got him from a puppy mill, and he was never socialized. He's afraid of everything, so even a kitten would probably stress him out. I'd love to add another pet to the family, but I don't know how he'd react, and it's not worth the risk.

Heather—You are so active; you're an inspiration! Split peas with ham sounds wonderful. The first time I had it, it was cooked all day on an old wood stove. Maybe I should ask for an instant pot for Christmas?

Today I went shopping with my DMIL, just because it was nice out. I bought some clothes that were two sizes smaller than I wore last year. It felt great to choose based on what I liked, rather than what fit and wasn't too tight. I'm enjoying wearing pants with buttons and zippers—not just elastic. I'm pulling clothes from the back of my closet, and wearing things I haven't had on for years. I've got a bag of clothes I plan to donate, and I toss anything that looks baggy and sloppy in there.

I'm still not pleased with the image in the mirror when I undress, but it's going to take time. It took me five years to get this fat, so it'll probably take at least a year to take it off. I love that my mind and focus are steady.

Gratitude calendar: Knowledge—I'm going to have to say reading. I know people who don't read well, or don't enjoy reading, and I can't comprehend how they cope with such a deficit. Writing is a close second for me.

I'm off to a dinner of chicken, vegetable, and noodle soup. I've got enough calories left, I could probably even have some bread or crackers.

Hi pals. By the time I catch up reading, my eyes are blurry lol.
Penny- I have been thinking about your Mom and sister having Macular Degeneration. I was diagnosised 15 years ago.
I was part of a 6 year research study on the formulary for AREDS 2 at UTSWMC in Dallas. Did either of your family members see a retina specialist? In just the last two years they have new treatments. I wish them the best.
Lisa- you are a treasure and the intrem ceo doesn’t know what she will be missing.
KJ- Joaquin isn’t my grand baby but I love him. I think he is very smart to know how to call you.
Never got to answer what I do for fun but I love to play golf, bridge, yoga and read.
    Better stop for now.

Just checking in as I get sleepy with my antihistamines and my omeperazole kicks in so I can lay down.

Penny and SueBDew—have begun the macular degeneration journey with my mom, so different than with my father in law. She has been to the retinal specialist and had 3 treatments/injections to stop the progress. It seems to be stabilizing.

Michele—how we struggle with our children! Since June, we have run the gamut with our youngest. She just turned 20 two weeks ago. She is adopted, we were connected when she was 5 days old, but was 15 months by the time she came home with us from Guatemala. In June, my husbands cousin found her birth family and our daughter has been doing everything possible to go to live with them. And while we cannot stop her, trying to get her there safely and as connected online as possible so she can continue college online, it has been a nightmare. For months I have been “you”, no longer her mom just someone who lives there. The last month has been better, but only because of the lies and deception going on down there that have really hurt her. She is clueless on how she has ripped that family apart and hurt us beyond measure. The day after Christmas we will make our 4th trip down there and she will be staying—how long is anyone’s guess. I understand the need for her to do this and her birth mother is not well. While she has always known she was adopted and we have been helping her and supporting her the last 8 years to find her family, never did I ever think it would be like this. I understand the tears, they come every day. Prayers and therapy, that’s what is getting me through this mess, and hope that the baby steps continue to happen to heal us. Hugs for you, and a listening ear I can be.

Talking about knowledge today—seems that I am a lifelong learner with such a thirst for knowledge and passing it along. Nursing tends to put you on that path. I have done much teaching, too, from religious education to substitute teaching in the grade school to educating my fellow nurses on the job. I have spent the last 4 years getting my masters degree in nursing education, I finished in March. Knowledge is a power in your life and something that no one can take from you.

    Off to bed!

    Love from KY,
    Kathy

Kim: it is so good to see you post! :flowerforyou:

Pip: I love the curtain. It is full of personality & perfect for the two of you and your home.

Dana: Add me to the list of people who love your dog. What a great photo!

(((Michelle))) You have a tender heart and I have sympathy for you. My kids are half a continent and a whole continent away from us and it is unlikely that we will see any of them before spring. The holidays are tough. We have been invited to DSIL’s for Thanksgiving, but DH doesn’t want to go because of food issues. He is on a restricted diet, and can't eat most of what his sister cooks. His sister cooks as she has always cooked and can’t understand that many of those foods make him sick—such as anything with wheat in it, fresh garlic, onions . . .It is easier to stay home than to try to explain. We could take the RV and cook for ourselves in the spring or summer, but don’t consider it safe in the winter season. The roads between here and her place lead through mountain ranges and are often icy at this time of year. We won’t make that drive in the RV until spring or summer. :ohwell:

Machka: I love the art piece. The colors pull me in, and the shapes are full of movement. :star:

Barbie: I love your kitty and the green blanket.

Kathy from KY: Welcome to a great group. :flowerforyou:

Willow: Welcome. There are several women living in Washington State, and several in Oregon, too. I hope you’ll post often and get to know us. :flowerforyou:

TerriRichards: Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays ever created. It brings people together to share a meal and the comradery of friends and family without the stress of gift giving. Last year we went to visit DSIL for Thanksgiving and had a lovely time. This Thanksgiving we are unlikely to travel and may have the holiday with only the two of us.. :ohwell: I wonder if we can change that situation. Skype is better than nothing, I guess.

17: What knowledge are you grateful for? There are so many things to choose from. Knowing how to read is my choice for today. Reading expands my understanding and leads me to new knowledge and ideas. It connects me with other readers and writers, and friends here. It provides entertainment.

I'm glad we don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the UK. I have enough problems with Christmas. Lol!

We don't celebrate it here in Australia either.

I miss the Canadian Thankgiving a little bit. It was always a lovely 3 days off ... quiet, relaxing, no pressure, small family gathering, and usually nice enough I could get out for 3 days of cycling.

    Morning Ladies~
woke up around 4:30 this morning,,, and I had my tea and watched Joyce... have a load of laundry in the washer...
I am really thinking about maybe after the first of the year getting a washer dryer combo that does both... downsides it take between 3-5 hrs to wash and dry and they dont have the hot out of the dryer feel, having one in my hall closet would be more convenient for me, but at what cost, the pro's and cons something to think about...
Here is hoping the closing is this week sometime.....
Michelle I am going to a cookie swap and would love the recipe for the lemon ricotta cookies with the lemon in it... thanks in advance...

Michelle You are a strong woman with a giant heart <3 I don't have the same circumstances that you have but I do know that we raise our kids to be launched into this world, they make their own mistakes and have their own victories apart from us. No matter how brief your time together is, spend it in the moment, not measuring it against anyone elses time. I say this sincerely, not as a judgment cause I really can feel how painful this is to you. When I'm deep in a cycle of anxiety I will talk myself out of it, fake it till you make it, is often my mantra. If you feel some tears coming on, pretend you are having the time of your life and look for what is going on that is funny or delightful or happy--focus on finding that happy while they are right in front of you. You will enjoy yourself more and they will too! I think your DH is right, don't go borrowing trouble before there is any (about the timing of the construction). <3<3

I'm headed to the gym first thing, it really does anchor me, then off to meal prep for a shorter work week (yippee). DH and I will have a quiet couple thanksgiving, I'll make some things he likes and some things I like, we'll also skype with family. My daughter comes home from South Africa next Sunday until her spring semester starts mid-January. Should be interesting.

Lisa: I love your advice to Michele, and also your plan for your upcoming interview. Fingers and toes crossed for you. Personally, I think your will do very well in the interview. :star:

Barbara the Southern Oregon Coastie: I understand how you feel about this group of women. I feel the same way.

I seem to be coming down with a cold. My nose is starting to get runny & I feel pressure in my sinuses. The things I used to take for colds are off my island. Does anyone have any recommendations in addition to water, peppermint tea and coffee?

Good morning all Cold here today but it's winter. I choose to live here in the great white northern Ontario.
The foot is feeling better getting more steps in. Walking needlessly again getting in around 1000 steps not much but better than the two hundred I was getting just to go to bathroom and back to either here or my living room chair or bed. It's getting better.
Thanks Barbie and Michele for stopping by page.
Mary where are you in Ontario.
I'm in a little town called Cochrane way up north.

    See you all lighter

Grandmallie: what about a stacked unit. My laundry space could only accommodate that since I wanted cabinets in it for craft and cleaning supplies and a linen closet for the half bath. Love it! Especially that warm, fresh from the dryer feeling and smell!

Carol, of course it's not too much information. I think we all expose our worries about our kids here, as well as ourselves. I hope your fears about your DDiL's feelings about your son don't come true, dear.

Lisa it will take me a little over three hours to get to your house, will the bread be out of the oven then? :). Unfortunately we are getting freezing drizzle this morning and its moving east, I have no desire to navigate icy roads. Maybe next time. 🍞

Janet, you're more than welcome! The bread still has an hour and a half on the second rise before it goes in the oven. We're supposed to get just the edges of the weather you're sending our way, but it will blow back up again into rain once it gets past us... Not s'posed to freeze on our side of the mountain, but high will be only 45 degrees. A good day for baking bread... and possibly roasting a turkey! Corey will only have one day off for Thanksgiving, and I found turkey for 59 cents a pound, so bought two. Shoved one in the freezer for later in the year, and will roast one today. Unless I decide to wait until tomorrow, and we'll just do hamburgers today on the fresh bread. It's so nice having time off to indulge my domestic urges... :)

At Corey's request, I tend to do a half-recipe of my mother's bread, which makes 15 hamburger/sandwich rolls. He loves them for his weekday lunches, as they're a bit larger than the storebought ones, and stick to his ribs. :)

Okay, the boys are up and around, and getting ready to get a door hung on our bedroom and the half bath, and I should help out.

    Love y'all!

It's kind of strange, jumping into a board and reading y'all talking about family get-togethers with Thanksgiving and all. I'm not sad about it... I'm simply musing...

See, my husband and I are introverts, and neither of us are big holiday people. Thanksgiving will come and go and the only reason we'll know is because he'll have a day off of work. Same for Christmas and New Year's. We'll probably put up a tree or something for Yule, but that's about it. By the way, we're both Agnostic. I have four grown kids, and four siblings, and they live their own lives a few cities and some states over, and some live on the East Coast, but none of us are rich enough to travel. I'll probably hear about their Thanksgiving shenanigans on Facespace. My parents and I are... not close in any way, shape, or form. But that's a different story.

I guess if we lived closer to Doug's family, we'd get pulled into Thanksgiving dinners, and other holiday celebrations. But right now Doug and I live so far from everyone, it's just not a thing. Anyway, I hope y'all -- those who celebrate Thanksgiving -- have a good holiday with you and yours. We will be here at home playing video games all day, and enjoying the time with the furbabies, because that's what we do.

One good thing about not celebrating the holidays, I don't have to worry about the tempting food from feasts.

Edited to add: Willow from WA USA (I keep forgetting)
