This will be the first non-race I have run with another human being in umm a 5 years? Something like that... Not sure I know what is protocol, should I turn up my audiobook so he can hear it too, or just pretend I am listening to him and not the book?
Not sure, but I think you're supposed to turn the book off and talk or something.5 -

LOL. Just start talking about something you have in common. Maybe running?6 -

Oooh, ask the difference between leggings and tights! That should last at least five miles.12 -

Oh, yeah, that's a good one. I asked for running tights for Christmas, and the wife laughed and ridiculed me for days!12 -

I run to music, so a little different - but if I’m with another human I will plant one ear bud in my ear and tuck the other in my sports bra. I am guessing you don’t have the luxury of a sports bra tho 🤣
I don’t have to concentrate on music and you probably do your book...1 -
Scheduled rest day Wednesday, so I spent a good amount of time foam rolling, massaging and stretching, with a little strength work.
Yesterday called for 2 miles but I wasn't sure how my calf/achilles would feel so decided to just try the treadmill. Good news is that neither of those hurt while running. Bad news is I only lasted 1.6 miles. How do you guys run so many miles on a treadmill? It's SO boring!
After discussing with my husband, I decided to cut back my planned mileage. Rather than trying to build up to a half next spring, I'm just going to gradually increase mileage every 2-3 weeks. In Feb/March, I'll start a training plan for the 12k in May.6 -
@zeesparrow i sound like a broken record i'm sure, but i watch an action movie. or action series. something that doesn't require a lot of brain power but something i can still get lost in2

So I can’t give you a running update because I’m still out of commission, but I can give you a lovely creepy crawly pick. This is a weta that came in for a visit. They’re a prehistoric cricket-like insect, endemic to New Zealand, and as we don’t do animals (we have a bat as our only native mammal) this is a scary as it gets here. This one is not a particularly large species, but he’s still about 7cm long in the body plus legs plus those ridiculously long antennae. I didn’t want to touch him as they are prickly and known to bite so he’s still on the kitchen wall!

I think it would look good on the bottom of your shoe, prehistoric or not.4 -
@mbaker566 Good idea. We'll have to see if we can't rearrange things to get a TV/monitor in front of it.0

You can also spark a conversation about these controversial topics. I promise the running chat will last at least 11 miles ... or you will kill each other. LOL. Just think, if you get to the end of this list you will be official running "sole mates".

Wait. Doesn't your vacuum cleaner have an extension wand? We have asian lady beetles every where. They are not scary. They will bite. But are mostly a stinky nuisance. I do worry that one will get in my ear when I'm asleep.
Hey. Name her Wena and sing the My Wena song to her from Bowling for Soup. (I just wanted to say wena cuz I'm 5). Good luck with wena the weta.4 -
@amymoreorless - OMG, I made a comment about coughing up a lung this morning after a bad coughing fit. I just KNEW it was possible. That link - so gross. Hope you are feeling better and definitely good call not running in the cold rain right now.
@mbaker566 love your dogs and their puppy guests. So cute!
@7lenny7 sorry about the delay in your plans to start walking more and hiking. I'm sure that must be very frustrating. Hopefully if you listen to the doctor you will heal completely and then be able to ramp up and still get to your goal.
@sarahthes I'm so sorry you've had such a string of injuries. Hoping this hip and back pain will resolve quickly.
@PastorVincent hope you have a good run with Don - who I hope will be identified and report back to us whether you talked to him or not.
@hesn92 - hard to say what you are describing, but you can get a bunion on the pinky toe side. Look up Tailor's bunion and see if that looks might be what you have. Or it certainly could be an injury there. If it is painful and doesn't go away soon (or is getting worse) you might want to get it checked out. Did you get new shoes or anything that could be causing a new friction kind of injury?

Back to the gym this morning for a treadmill warm-up and then circuit training. Despite the post-workout coughing fit, I felt pretty decent. Tomorrow's 5k will be a test because it's going to be pretty cold. I'm going to postpone my long run that I would normally do on Saturday morning and just do the run that night to conserve energy a bit yet. I'm hoping there might be some hot beverages to enjoy and make it a really fun run despite the cold.7 -
Got my lazy *kitten* to the gym today! Found a great playlist on Spotify so I didn’t feel like a hamster running on its wheel the entire time!
12/1: 3.1 miles
12/3: 2.7 miles
12/5: 5 miles
12/7: 3.5 miles
Total for December: 14.3/50 miles7 -
If you're looking for a marathon to do in October, our own TC Marathon would be a great choice. It's always in the top 10 lists for top marathons in the US. I'm targeting 2020 or 2021 for this. @MegaMooseEsq this is TC in Motion

Hi All. I haven't been checking in here but I thought this was a nice big group of runners so hopefully it's ok for me to ask a question here. Recently (within the last 5 days or so) the bone on the outside of my foot under my pinky toe (so the opposite side from the bunion?) has been sore and it's protruding more so than it normally does? The bump is a lot bigger than it is on my other foot. Does this sound like anything to any of you? Could it be from running? I don't really want to go to the dr. for it if it's like, no big deal. just thought I'd ask.
@hesn92 As I remarked to my physical therapist, endurance athletes only have two modes of dealing with injury: denial, and hypochondria.
Denial tends to make an injury worse, resulting in more couch time and less running time. If something is chronically asymmetric and hurts, and you don't understand what it is, it's time to seek medical advice. In order to know what to do about it, you absolutely must understand what is going on. Maybe it needs a day or two of rest. Maybe it needs surgery. There are a host of possibilities between those extremes.
About all a faceless internet stranger who runs can say is, this doesn't sound like one of the common newbie runner sore spot things. It could be from running. It could be your shoes, or the shape of your feet, or your foot strike, or some combination of these, or something else entirely. Find a podiatrist who treats runners, and find out what it is. Then go from there.6 -
Ok, did anyone save the “inexpensive sport” meme.
