@PastorVincent How cold was it that you had icicles on your eyebrows? I just can't imagine.
@eleanorhawkins I hate spit, but I think I would spit in his dinner too! Does he run too or just make snide comments on how you do it?
@ContraryMaryMary Yeah! Glad you get to run again. Hopefully it won't be long before the walking requirement is dropped for you.0 -

Eh, wait till @7lenny7 sees this post and posts one of his ICE BEARD pictures. I had on a Baclava (face mask hood thing - not sure how to spell name!) so no ice on my mustache. I normally have sunglasses on to, more to keep the icy wind out of my eyes than anything else, but I forgot them this time. They probably would have prevented the icicles.eleanorhawkins wrote: »Heh, is this a post race grump by any chance?
Very well could be.

I did not look, guessing upper teens? Lowe 20s? Down by the river, there is often wind so I am sure that helped freeze the water on my eyebrows.1 -
Super sucky run today. I’m thinking it’s probably because of the cold/flu thing I’ve had for the last couple of days. I also switched treadmill types at the gym, so I think that may have been a factor as well. Super annoying that some days I can run 5-6 miles but on days like today 1.5 miles is a struggle.
12/1: 3.1 miles
12/3: 2.7 miles
12/5: 5 miles
12/7: 3.5 miles
12/8: 4.1 miles
12/10: 2.6 miles
Total for December: 21/50 miles6 -
a few days and 8 pages later...have been consistent with my running and lifting. Ran Saturday on an indoor track(UGH!) and then did yoga as it was 34F and raining, no race in the near future so no need to get sick right before Christmas.
@eleanorhawkins CONGRATS! I knew you could do it!
@MegaMooseEsq Very well run races!
@7lenny7 Yay on the loss of the boot, but boo to having to build back up slower than expected.
@PastorVincent pics or they weren't there
@ContraryMaryMary Congrats on being able to run again.
So many others I couldn't remember them all . I am still creeping through the thread just not logging every day, those on Strava can see my runs as it is easier to start an app than to hop on and read everything these days. HAGD everyone .
ETA: Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
I will have run 4 half marathons and hopefully my first full if I can get the training runs in, plus a multitude of other shorter distances. Of the 4 HMs I hope to do my first trail one next year.8 -

Was coming in here to moan about how much my knees hurt and about the fact that my idiotic husband, who just doesn't get it, spent all day yesterday bragging about how proud he is of me then told me today I need to run faster next time cause "even a fat guy beat me" and despite my pointing out that I deliberately started RIGHT AT THE BACK lectured me that I shouldn't have "let a fat guy overtake me".
Meh, gonna go spit in his dinner now while I stand and cook it (on knees that are screaming) while muttering about how badly I need the run my legs aren't gonna let me have, meaning I have no calories left for anything but soup for dinner but still have to cook for THEM.
Heh, is this a post race grump by any chance?
Weight is surely no indication of running pace. I bet there's a big girl or two out there that'll leave him in the dust no problem.
I'm sure he was offering motivation. (I hope). We challenge ourselves and encourage one another. Not vice versa.
I suggest ordering take out for dinner and icing those knees. Think Nike.... "Just do it"
Mine brought home cookies and kombucha for dinner. What? That's not dinner. *Sigh*7 -

Anyway good for that fat guy finishing a half marathon (even if he did start ahead of you), it's hard toting that weight all that way. And boo on your husband. I hope your knees feel better soon, remember it's supposed to take about as many days to fully recover from a race as there were miles in the race.8 -
2019 Run the Year update:
I am so excited to see so many commitments to run the entire year of 2019!
This is an excellent chance to find a support group (cuz running is cheaper than therapy- well not if you do it right. But youll be fit to out run any zombie. Unless it's fungal)!
We have 3 teams so far!!!! Who's been on the fence? Who is a part of team D with @kathie_blunt who is training for a half in May?
Yes, you have plenty of time to sign up. I think in 2016 when i did it (failed), registration was open through February.... (unless I'm wrong or it has since changed, then you better find that 25$ ASAP).
Come on. Come join a team!

Thought I had posted a few times already this month but I guess I’m just fashionably late. I’m going for 30 miles this month. Can’t believe I did 100+ last year at this time especially since I only started running in November. It’s insane how much I have run this year especially since I don’t really like running but I do love the time alone.
I’ve completed a lot more races than I thought I would be able to and hopefully this coming year I can surpass that.
My first goal when I started was to run 20 miles a week and I felt so accomplished after that, in high school I couldn’t run a mile to save my life even though I played basketball. I have now completed a number of 5Ks and 10ks and I made a promise to myself that I would complete a half on my birthday. So I showed up ready wog (walking jog) and I finished my first half. I gave myself 4 hours to get it done and I did it in 3 hours 41 minutes. The fact that I had to stop training really sucked but I know the next one I will be determined to just keep running. I was even more stocked that I placed first in my group especially since there were about 10 other people doing the half but I think once they got that 10k turn around they had just had enough and completed the 10 instead. It was cold running along the beach but it was pretty watching the sun come up. Of course my phone died 30 minutes into my run so it was hard for me to keep a steady beat without being in my head. Lol.10 -
4 miles this evening. Was actually looking forward to this recovery run to start this cut-back week. Thought it was going to be a nice easy, feel-good run. It WAS slow, but felt so uncomfortable. I still don't know how to do a recovery run.
Yay @ContraryMaryMary happy return to running!8 -
12/1 (3.5mi - run)
12/2 (2.2mi - walk)
12/3 (3mi - run)
12/4 (1.9mi - walk)

12/6 (3mi - run) (.7mi walk)
12/7 (rest day!)
12/8 (3mi - run) (1.7mi - walk)
12/9 (5.5mi - walk)
12/10 (3.5mi - run)
Run: 16mi/30mi
Walk: 12mi/30mi
My knee started pinging me as I was running down a hill so I turned around and went up the hill and just ran flats the rest of the way. Tomorrow I’ll have a rest day from cardio and just get some strength training in instead.8 -
Last run of my 10k training plan tonight! I feel confident that I can complete the distance come race day, which is still a couple of months away. My plan is to just recycle the last month of the plan a couple of times. I didn't really time this. I started the plan then found a couple of races.
It's still weird to me when I go run for like an hour considering that this time last year I was lamenting how much I hated running. Now, I'm totally hooked!
Earlier this month there was a question about inspirations. I guess I have to say my husband, though probably not for the typical reasons. Over the years he has gotten me interested in and subsequently hooked on several things. Then he quits doing them!! He swears he isn't quitting running, but he hasn't run at all for about 3-4 months now. So he certainly gets the credit for inspiring me to start and now I'm trying to inspire him to get back on it!!
Dec run miles: 4.69 miles
Dec run goal: 30 miles

Wine and Dine half marathon - 11/3/201912 -
Thanks for the congratulations, all! It was a great race and really gave me a shot of confidence about winter running. No run today - my mom had a follow-up appointment that was a bit of a frustrating waste of time, then we got lunch and groceries and I stopped at REI to return some SmartWool crew socks and pick up a couple replacement pairs (Injinji crew liners). I realized when I got home that the clerk shorted me $10 on the return, but honestly I don't think I care enough to do anything about it. Fingers crossed that the new socks work better - I really just need a touch more warmth and something to cover my ankles, and these were recommended specifically for layering. My replacement order of base layer tights should be arriving tomorrow (the post office lost the first order so REI sent a replacement) so I'm really hoping to get my butt out there again soon. I probably won't have enough time tomorrow, but Wednesday and Thursday for sure.
I'm balking on pulling the trigger on the Y membership for some reason. Maybe I've just had too much change recently and don't feel like I have the energy to add another thing. I know that now would be a MUCH better time to start than a month from now, both because of the joining discount and fewer people, but I don't know that the brain is going to win on this one. Sigh.6 -

I finally made myself go back to group speedwork tonight - posting on facebook that I was DEFINITELY going this time was enough to shame me into it. So hard to leave the house and go out in the dark and cold again though. It was a pretty good return to speedwork, surprisingly so. Tonight's workout was a 25-minute tempo run and when I heard that I had the "I've made a huge mistake" thought (was hoping for short intervals to ease back in). My pace was better than my 5k on Saturday and Garmin even thought I had my fastest mile ever (not true, but I liked the encouragement). After I was feeling pretty down about my running the last week, it was nice to have a good workout.

This is WAY off topic, but some of you have known me for quite a while and might care to hear this...
One of my books just hit #112 BEST SELLER on all of Amazon. I am the #1 Space Opera book, and the 14th most popular SciFi author on Amazon right now! It will not last, never does, competition is way too fierce, but, eh, I am here for now!
31 -
Wooo! (in a good way - I did not woo your post) @PastorVincent
I listened to a podcast not that long ago and they were talking about how those rankings are good for ebook sales. I don't remember the exact details but it was interesting to hear a bit how amazon works.3 -

Congratulations, @PastorVincent!!!
Every Pulitzer Prize winner had to start somewhere.4 -
Fun fact.
Run the Edge is a book written by Adam Goucher. Adam is a co-founder, Olympian and exercise psychologist. He is co-founder of the Run the Year challenge. (think i got all that right)
He is married to Kara Goucher, one of my running idols.
(Btw Congratulations @PastorVincent ).7 -
No run today, too icy on the sidewalks and roads around my place. I did a 30 minute Fitness Blender video instead since I feel I've lost more cardio fitness than leg strength.
Tomorrow I will bring gym kit to work and hit the treadmill after work if it's still super icy. Sidewalks should be okay by Thursday if the weather forecast holds true.6 -
Hey all.
I'm so far behind it's not funny lol. An update, I managed 5k this morning so finished 60/60 km for the 12 days of Christmas challenge I've been doing. I'll post a pic of my medal when it arrives! I'm taking a rest day tomorrow, and will try get in a walk at some point. I think maybe I've put too much pressure on myself. So m going to chill for the rest of the month, still run but not pressure myself to run everyday. As per suggestions. So sleep in tomorrow! Yay. And in a week I'm on holiday so should be able to get in a relaxing long run, rather than trying to fit one into a tight schedule.7 -

Yay, excellent news! Take it slowly :-)
@quilteryoyo haa yeah he reckons so... he comes for a run with me once every 3 months or so, runs as far as he can before almost keeling over (I've given up repeating the too much too soon thing now, it's like banging my head against a brick wall) then spends 4-6 weeks moaning about how much his feet/ankles/knees/legs hurt.
@Elise4270 @rheddmobile etc. it was probably not said with bad intent, I'm telling myself it's just cause he's not 'one of us' so has no idea lol. One of the things I was most amazed/entertained by was the variety of random people doing weird/wonderful things during the race. There's a group that runs pretty much every race round here with 3 people in wheelchairs... around km 3, two of them disappeared then turned up again 10 minutes later with a bag of 'churros' (typical Spanish thing a bit like long strings of fried donut dough) which they proceeded to share round on the go. One barefoot dressed in some sort of Vietnamese looking gown and a straw hat. One with two tennis rackets and a ball which he was bouncing the whole way, and another barefoot guy that I ran close to most of the way. Oh and another group dressed as Romans, one carrying a massive cross! I left them behind around km 19 hehehe.
Once I'd had my medal engraved, inhaled breakfast, been back to the hotel for a quick shower, checked out, collected the car and was heading for home we passed the end of the pack that were doing the full marathon. Tennis racket guy and my barefoot guy were there. They were doing the whole dang marathon!
Back on topic (sort of) I had my soup and went to bed with cold compresses on my knees, they feel a lot better so far this morning, will have to force myself to keep resting them today.
@rheddmobile still laughing over the clashing sword sound effect, love it!

Thanks all! I topped off at #104 overall on Amazon and then went to bed. Today I am back down to 126 and will begin the slide down the charts. I do not have the advertising budget to stay up there with the big players... yet. Still fun to break in on their party and spill a few drinks from time to time though.16 -

I genuinely can't decide what I love more, the churro & wheelchair group or the tennis racket guy. Awesome!
@PastorVincent: Congratulations!4 -
So I had a session with my trainer yesterday. She said she was "blown away" (her words) by how well I've been doing on my training and in the 2 years we have been working together, this is the most "in control" of myself she has seen me! I'm humbled.
Since my 15K is this weekend, I wanted to have another goal, something else go aim for so I don't just "whatever" it. I have done Gasparilla Distance Classic every year I have been running save 1 (recovery from surgery). So I'm DEFINITELY doing it in 2019. Was thinking of another 15k....but we decided that I'm going to do a half marathon! I'm nervous, but, like she said, I'm already doing 9 miles, I'll have 10 weeks to add another 4 onto it! She's excited, my BF is encouraging me, a couple friends at work are encouraging ("I've walked 2 halfs in 4 hours. I've seen you at races, you definitely got it! Go for it!") I have Hal Hidgon's HM novice plan in my calendar, as I've been using his 15K plan & it's been working well. When I started running, I NEVER thought I'd EVER say I'm going to do a HM, but here I am!
12/1 - 7.02
12/4 - 4.02
12/6 - 8.02
12/8 - 2.10
12/11 - 3.01 miles - 24.17 miles done

@MegaMooseEsq if you're bored, churros/wheelchair team and racket man are next to each other about half way down page 3 here: http://zurichmaratonmalaga.es/fotos/

@PastorVincent Congratulations! That's awesome.
@eleanorhawkins Love your racing story. As I play tennis, I am very impressed by the tennis racket guy!
I have decided to challenge myself to virtually run across Tennessee, my home state, in 2019. It's 499 miles from Bristol to Memphis, following the interstates. That should help motivate me to get ready for the 10K I want to run in August for my 60th birthday.
