Great race reports everyone, congrats on your finishes!
A great run on the treadmill today. I went to the gym that is closer to my house vs. work, since I had the day off. I was able to use one of the virtual run settings, so the time passed by relatively quickly. Planned on 3, but felt good so went another mile. The setting offered some really good hills too.

@PastorVincent hmm.. 59f is still tank/no shirt running weather here. Maybe its a cold 59 in Fronce 😆 eh, i like the look of the gear. Seems to be half the price-ish. I have a really nice warm nike shirt with thumb holes and a hood, i think it was 60-80$. So 30-40 is alright.
I bought some cheaper running shirts when someone left staples/tacks in thier pockets and they happened to shred my good running shirts in the dryer They are Fila. They are heavy, hot, seams pull...i never wear them. Eh. But the group appears to think the decathlon brand is worth a go.
I also have some fila fleece lined running tights that are nice. Were cheep. Like 12$. Definitely worth it.
Let us know what you think of the product. I may spring for some just based on @noblsheep 's approval.2 -

I agree with you about Fila - bad shirts, great cheap tights. Are they a Kohls brand? I don't think I've seen them except at Kohls.0 -

01 - 4
02 - 1.25
03 - 4.25, slow, but it was one of those runs that just felt good.
04 - 2
05 - 4.5, plus a five minute plank today & two hours of roller skating
06 - 1.75, five and a half minute plank, day three on squat challenge
07 - 2.25, six minute plank & day 4 of a 25 day squat challenge (25 squats)
08 - 3.75, almost didn't run because it's so cold and windy, thankfully my dog guilted me into running with her sweet puppy dog eyes. I had a great run, felt strong and healthy.
09 - 2
10 - 3
11 - 2
12 - 1.5
13 - 9.25 mile trail run with friends in Forest Park, easy run with lots of hills and great conversations. ♥️

January Total: 41.5 miles
January Goal: 60 miles
Upcoming Races:
Rhody Run 12k (5/19)9 -
@girlinahat - I love it when they bark like that too - I figure he is telling 'it' to 'slow down, I just want to talk to you...' He has also started to bark a bit when we are running agility. I think he is telling me to hurry up because I am typically behind him 😊
@HonuNui - fantastic pictures of the Blood moon eclipse! Wow! Also if I could find a way to get Hobbes over there with me I would bring him. I am sure he and Lily the Whippet would have an awesome time chasing all over the place!
@scott6255 - great report and great job on managing the race!
@7lenny7 - the lure runs on a line that is not as thick as a rope but thicker than fishing line, if that makes sense. There are some devices that hold it in place but allow the lures to run seamlessly. There were a couple of times a dog would grab it at the end and pull it so har they would have to realign it onto those devices. It was run remotely from a guy on a ladder at one end of the field far away from the dogs' running area but close enough that he could see to increase or decrease the speed depending on the do's attention and speed. They didn't so much let the dogs catch it at the end but there is no real way to avoid it. What you don't see on the video is Hobbes got the bag so far in his mouth that he gagged right after grabbing it. We will definitely be doing it again.
I have never heard of Decathlon brand but will have to check them out now after all the recommendations!
I am loving all the pictures of ice beards, cold weather gear, race bling and food! Of course Kody gets the honorable mention for his tongue and ice beard! So Cute!!
Also seeing all those cold temperature mentions and cold weather pictures I have to mention that it is windy here and getting worse (20-30 mph today higher tomorrow) but after Tuesday it is going to get back into the high 70's maybe 80's again. I had finally felt like we were having a winter this year with cool temps and rain but it seems to be over already with just a week or two...

I got a reply back from Joey...Joey wrote:Hello Vincent,
Thank you for your your message in regards to our products. My name is Joey, our running expert here at Decathlon USA.
All of our products are translated from French, but we do tend to add some excessive wordiness to our product names. The shirt you mentioned is a perfect example: "The running warm long sleeved t-shirt." We are working to clean up our product names as time goes on.
As this is a long sleeve pullover, I wouldn't recommend running with it in desert temperatures. There is a typo on the product page and it should read 41 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit. It's a great lightweight running pullover. If you're looking for something to handle a little cooler temperatures, I would go with the warmer version:

What else can I help you find?
Joey
Heh. Well that was.. helpful.
I think there must have been a mistranslation somewhere, that same shirt reads "up to 15 degrees C" on the Chinese website. Which is also a load of crap, as I don't fish it out until it gets well into the single digits. Maybe their product testers put them on and then hang around chatting outdoors (for which it is totally comfortable at 15C).@PastorVincent hmm.. 59f is still tank/no shirt running weather here. I went through my running stuff again last night. Turns out I've bought more stuff from them than I'd remembered. An incomplete list of running gear (YMMV):
Shorts - capable. I cut out the lining because it chaffed.
Shirt - nothing to write home about.
Warm tights - does its job. Haven't used them in a while, too hot (Beijing only goes to about -5C most of the time)
Windbreaker - fugly but does its job.
Trail backpack - has seen me through a 50km, a 30km and countless trail HMs. Bounces around more than my Salomon trail vest but only cost a tenth of the latter. I end up using it more for races because of its various pockets.
Beanie - fugly but does its job.
Rain cap - fugly but does its job.
Long sleeve warm shirt - fleece lined, warm enough to go under freezing without needing an extra layer. Great stuff.
Thin long sleeve shirt - dunno where I put it. Does its job.
Other stuff in case anyone cares:
Cycling gloves - hasn't died on me yet
Swim goggles - capable
Fleece backpacking shirt - warm enough but picks up static like crazy
Hiking poles - got the cheapest ones with the screw adjustment system, utter *kitten*. Non-screwing ones might do better
Foot massage ball - didn't find this on the US website. Best thing ever for sore feet
Basketball - hasn't died on me yet
Badminton paddles - ditto
Hope that helps.

Eep just signed up. For a local 23k run/walk - that's in 3.5 weeks time... So going to be a run/walk as I am no where near HM ready. But it's for the local fire brigade raising funds for cancer so couldn't say no.12

Chilly 5.9 miles this morning. 22 days on the run. 113.x miles this month.
RTY TEAM Runderful World!
Hope everyone has an awesome🤯day!8 -
Hmm you know what's useful? Turning on your get up and run alarm. Oops13
-
@shanaber We had some strong wind yesterday. It wasn't helping my awkward running as it seemed to be coming from every direction. Temps would have been great if it wasn't for the wind.2
-
Week 1: 4.3 miles
Week 2: 6.0 miles
Week 3: 7.2 miles
January 22nd: 20.5/25 miles
Skipped my run yesterday because I was super sore from Sundays workout, but I made up for it by having my longest run of the year today 👌11 -
We were supposed to get 4 to 6 inches of snow overnight. I was going to get up early so I could run in it before work. Before bed I checked the forecast and saw that the meteorologists were starting to lower their numbers and some were even calling it a bust so I skipped the pre dawn snow run plans. I'm glad I did. We got just a dusting. I'll run tonight after work when I'm not as pressed for time.7

okay team I am working from home today so it is a run outside or bust situation. at least it's supposed to warm up to -15C by lunch?

I have that same foot massage ball - mine came in a set with a regular size foam roller and a handheld roller. They are awesome.I also discovered I've bought more there than I thought. Basically our entire home gym. I think the only thing I didn't like were the cheap summer "running" socks, and a cute set of summery workout clothes from the "fitness" section that as someone else mentioned, are more about looks than functionality. They are not long-run-approved. But then I didn't buy them in the running section. And I haven't found a tennis skirt I like enough to buy yet. I guess I'm picky.
medicine ball and plank/push up handle-thingies ('cause my wrists can't handle holding me up the regular way) sold separately0 -

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen.
Scheduled rest day today. It's already warmed up to double digit degrees F. If I change my mind and run, I'll come back and edit the post or re-post. Don't really need to rest from resting.6 -

I had correctly assumed it was a typo for °F. 15° C = 59° F, so the math works out. It looks to be about the same weight as the long sleeve tech shirts I get for races here. So . . . either French runners run much colder than upstate NY runners, or the company is primarily marketing to non-runners who think they want to run and still think 59°F/15°C is cool. For me, it's borderline between short sleeve tee and singlet with no great negative consequence one way or the other.6 -
5.9 chilly miles this morning, about 25F again. After yesterday's wind I added another layer to my lower body and hooray, it worked well!
Buddy taped my errant little toe for the run and seems to be doing much better. I left it untaped after the shower and have been walking on it with no issues. May just be something that I have to do for the next couple of weeks.
Hope everyone is doing awesome whether it be rest, distance or adverse weather runs! All that matters is putting in the effort
Have a runderful day!
ETA:So last night my wife and I were trying to figure out how far back(by landmark) I would have to run after getting to the dam to increase my distance the 16 mile mark. I think we got it figured out and that is my goal for my distance run in a week and a half(2/2/19).6 -
@Scott6255 Congratulations on finishing your first marathon! And in a great time too! Almost 20min faster than my PR, so I find it impressive And you ran all that without your glasses, and with hand-warmers in your shoes? Sounds like extra difficult.
@louubelle16 @mbaker566 @rheddmobile @RunsOnEspresso Congratulations on your great races too!
I haven't signed up for a race since forever, but reading race reports here always makes me want to look for something in my area.
@PastorVincent I have some great running clothes from Decathlon. Nearly all of my running stuff, in fact.
(I ordered UA pants twice, but was really disappointed the second time because the new ones where much shorter than the old version...) I especially appreciate that their running tights have POCKETS. Not just one single stupid tiny key thing at the back, but actual pockets where I can put things in. This one is my favourite. For running when it's cold (usually between -5C to 0C) I use a combination of this shirt with this vest. Of course, one advantage I have compared to you is that I don't have to put up with bad translations

So far, I'm really behind on my distance this month! I skipped about 10km to baby my knee during the week, then I skipped another 15km to go skiing on the weekend. Tonight I'm going climbing right after work, but I should really make sure to go running afterwards, no matter how late I come home... It's so frustrating that it's beautiful sunshine outside right now, but when I get home from work it's still already dark. I prefer winter temperatures over summer temperatures for running, but a bit of daylight now and then would also be welcome!

@_nikkiwolf_ I do almost all my runs in the dark currently(@ 0430-0500 starts usually) and am eagerly anticipating the longer days with earlier sunrises too!

I must be odd (a collective "duh" rings out) but I love running in the dark, be it on trails or pavement. I don't dislike running in the daylight, but there's a certain primal feeling I get running in the dark, particularly on trails, in the woods, particularly in the rain. When I get to my long runs before my next big race I'm considering doing them on Friday nights after dark rather than Saturday mornings.13

As I suspected, didn't finish the run in time to edit my previous post. Some of the route was packed snow, which was fine. But a lot of it was loose snow on top of packed snow, which was like slippery sand. One of the drawbacks of a grey beard is that it camouflages the ice pretty well. Made goal for the month, but it was a pretty low goal out of fear for the weather.5 -
@_nikkiwolf_ that top is the one I'm currently in love with and omgoodness I hadn't seen those leggings with POCKETS. Now I'm going to have to pay Decathlon a visit tomorrow (30 minutes cross-training sounds like it will be a walk to the store and back lol).
I usually run very early in the mornings before the sun is up, but stick to well-lit streets. Once I ran down a street with no lights on and that scared the *kitten* outta me, not being able to see where I was putting me feet was terrifying. Guess that's what lamps are for, huh?

I ran 5.02 miles this morning. I really thought I would just have to embrace the suck on this run because it is so windy and I don't really like running in wind, but it was actually a great run. The moon looked so awesome with the clouds sailing past it, and I just felt really good. I knew it would be windy so I just tried to relax and not worry about my pace. I expected to be slow, but ended up having a decent pace. I debated running at lunch, but this is the only morning this week it is supposed to be in the upper 50's and it is going to be windy all day so I wanted to run before work and get 5 miles in instead of at lunch and only get 3. It is supposed to be around 34F in the morning tomorrow and Thursday so I'll probably run at lunch the next 2 days.

59 in that grey range between T-shirt and Long Sleeve where depends on sun/etc. Definitely not second layer pull over range
I might try the shirt Joey suggested linked when I get some cash. Still a bit undecided. The price is good, so maybe. Seems lots of people on this thread like their stuff so that helps.
But definitely get the feeling their "running expert" does not run or only runs in warmer climates based on the numbers

The French site looks much more respectable too! Almost like a professional made that site, and his kid made the USA one.3 -
I'm thinking of signing up for the Hogeye Marathon in Springdale, AR (4/6/19). Does anyone here know if they have bacon on the course? It seems like they should have it either on the course or at the end (as a minimum). Has anyone done this race and do you know? If not, I might message the RD. I'm really thinking about signing up and that might push me over the edge...8

26/60km goal
It warmed up to about -20C, and I grabbed 6 km. Usually I do 5 km and the mental hurdle of one more seems higher than is strictly necessary. I love running outside, despite the weather, so much more interesting. I am a little sad to not be skating, but I set a running goal, so I aim to please.
p.s. I pulled the muff thing down once I warmed up
p.p.s. ski goggles are better in this weather but I don't have those
32/60km goal
