My grandmother lived next door to me, and early on was easily one of my best friends. I never understood my classmates at school when they would whine about having to go to their grandparents. I went on many car trips in my grandma's cute gold Dodge Dart. She would inch up the hills and zoom down them! She also would tell me stories with her teeth out. Such a character she was💖.

Rebecca You jogged a memory for me! A wonderful childhood memory. We had a cabin on an irrigation lake 8 miles out of town. One route we sometimes took home was a very hilly road. Usually not another car in sight. My mother would traverse the hills so that your stomach was left up in the air at the crucial moment. Momentarily weightless. We laughed and laughed. It was so silly and fun. Thank You!

Ladies, if anyone wants a sneak preview of The Real Skinny on Fat, Episode 1, I'm taking a chance on posting the link here. This is from Dr. Cate Shanahan's website, one of my favorites, who is included in this series.

Very interesting show today on Dr. Oz! The theme was the Keto diet and I was surprised that you can be doing a "dirty" Keto or a "healthy" Keto. I think my main problem with Keto is that idea of consuming so much fact and very little protein. I just can't understand where the fat should be coming from.

Machka--Sorry for your loss. She sounds like a very special lady.
Kylia--Great news and keeping you all in prayer.
Karen--Good for you, stopping yourself. One step at a time.
Beautiful weather here 45, after the below zero and wind it is nice. I am working 6-6 today so can only enjoy from the window.

My parents will celebrate 65 years on the 29th of this month! Dad had his 90th birthday this past Tuesday. Seems your parents and mine are of the same generation.

Hi ladies, i went back to work this week. Lots of cleaning. They remodeled and we ar putting everything back and deep cleaning. It has been brutal. Fighting a sore throat.
I thought it was quiet in the gruop. But it moved. I'm sure it had been mentioned a time or two.
Did someone mention sourdough starter. that would be awesome. Sorry if I didn't get to you sooner. I tried to wade back through the messages. Please message me.
And good news might husband had found a good trucking company to run with. ☺🙂

Machka - I am sorry for the loss of your grandmother.
Janet - Your granddaughter is beautiful.
Kylie - So glad Audrey is improving.
Carol - Fat has 9 calories per gram while protein and carbs have 4 calories per gram, so eating the same number the same grams in protein as in fat when stated as a percentage results in more than twice the percentage of fat. Basically the good fat sources include olive oil, avocado oil, avocado, nuts, dark meat chicken vs white meat (I prefer white meat myself), butter, heavy cream, olives, bacon, salmon, and red meat. Protein is not minimal, it should be moderate - 3-6 ounces per serving.
Information I learned from “The Real Skinny on Fat” was how bad vegetable oil, corn oil, canola oil and safflower oil are for you due to the way they are processed.
Another cure for leg cramps is magnesium oil applied externally.
I too, frequently enjoy yogurt mixed with nuts for breakfast. I use my Instant Pot to make homemade yogurt using Fairlife milk and heavy cream. This has fewer carbs than purchased yogurt. I add sweetener and vanilla.
I have decided on a word for 2019 - Commitment - Commitment is staying loyal to what you said you would do after the mood in which you said it has passed.
It is a gorgeous day today. It was sunshine, blue skies and 56 degrees when I walked 2.5 miles to and back from a local park.
Here is a picture of bridge in the park that is my destination before turning around.

Hi ladies! I'm sure glad I'm done with work today. We had an all day curriculum "retreat". It was more like a coordinated hostage-taking. I'm glad we finally were able to escape. It was dreadful in every way possible. They fed us breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was a mini muffin. Bleh. I had to eat about 10 to keep my blood sugar up! I had skipped breakfast at home because we were told we were being fed lol.
Not sure if I told you, I switched my diabetes meds from Farxega (horrible drug) to Trulicity (hallelujah!). My blood sugars dropped within 24 hours, I've lost weight, AND I'm not hungry all the time like I used to be.
I'm planning to spend the weekend doing a few chores/tasks, but I'm committed to some ME time too. I have started writing daily lists of both, and the chores get mostly done but the ME things don't. I did have a "back facial" earlier this week which was awesome.
OK my friends. I have to find some real food for dinner! Take care, Meg from lovely Omaha5 -

I’ve never heard of using tonic water for muscle cramps ... how do you use this .. A stupid question ... but are you drinking it fast ? How does it help in seconds?
@bwcetc, I think the quinine gets to your bloodstream quickly by drinking it. I keep a bottle handy and drink 8 oz. as fast as I can. Pharmacists used to prescribe quinine pills for cramps. My friend also gave me an Amish bottle of something that looks like apple cider vinegar. I haven’t used that yet. I also take a magnesium supplement. I get the cramps as bad as you said you do. Try keeping a small bottle of tonic water on your bedside table and wherever you sit. I know the screaming well. My husband promptly runs to the tonic water if it’s not in my reach b/c I cannot move when they come on. I feel your pain … literally! 😊 Congratulations to your parents on their anniversary!
@Machka9, so sorry to hear of the loss of your grandmother. Glad she had such a full, loving life. I never knew my grandparents and regret that. I lost my mom when I was 20. It’s tough losing them, for sure.
@Katla49, I wonder if Tums have magnesium in them.
@ydailey, I think I’ll pass on the pickle juice! I can’t even imagine. LOL!
@lhscapil, love that shirt!! And your grandmother sounds like she was delightful!
@janetr7476, your granddaughter is beautiful. Looks like she favors you.
@trisH_7183, no problems with MFP on my end today.
@megblair1, great news on the new meds!
I received a call yesterday that someone was interested in our foster Schnauzer. I’ve only had him since Dec. 13 and hadn’t even had time to post his information on the website with the holidays and company. I feel a little sad, but I know this will be a great home for him. The lady sounds like a very loving pet owner and has been vetted so I know he’ll have a great forever home. We’ll meet up with her Sunday afternoon at the dog park and then I'll be on the list for the next Schnauzer who needs a home.
Yea, I’m caught up!
Blessings,
Bonnie in Nashville TN

Happy Friday! So I have so many new things to explore now that I have real internet! It is so fast! The new laptop makes a difference too. And staying on that trend, there will be a "new" phone tomorrow. I dropped mine heading out the door on New Years. It hit at just the right angle to shatter the screen. This is the second time! The new case will be here on Monday so will put old case on until then. It has protected it many times and in fact is cracked itself, but time for better protection!
So can someone explain to me how my DH gets 11,000 steps in a day without trying, yet sits on his bum for a couple of hours out of a day. I rarely sit down at work. I carried boxes back to stock several times today. I was back and forth with equipment several times today. I get home and am at 5000 steps. RRRRRR! I was walking around the house again catching up with you all. DH doesn't understand that I needed to walk to get the calories burned that I ate. I could walk a while longer and catch up with him, but have only been averaging around 7000 most days. I was DETERMINED to hit 10,000 today and I did! I think I need to find my fitbit one again and put it in my pocket. The Alta HR on my arm just doesn't count if it isn't really moving (like carrying something or pushing a cart). I put the One someplace safe.......just wish I could remember where..... The funny thing is I decluttered my stuffs and organized lots and still haven't run across it. Oh well.
The doctors are optimistic, yet cautious with Aubrey. She has a lot of inflammation with her lungs. Slow and easy is the forecast today. My niece checks into the Ronald McDonald house on Monday. Her husband has to go back to work. Apparently both her and her sister's sororities both support the House. That seems to be a good thing. Cautious and Optimistic!
I am at page 28 on September! Yay! Just trying to figure out what has been going on that I missed. It makes for pretty good reading-hehe!
Congratulations to all the "losers"!
Hugs to everyone because they make us all feel loved!
Welcome to the new ladies!

Did an workout on the bosu DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Jackie’s 30 Day Fast Start DVD.
Kylia – so your husband goes into AFib? Vince had Wolfe Parkinson White syndrome (until he had his ablation) and he never changed his diet. He was on Rhymthol for a LOOONNNGGG time (we’re talking about 30 years here). I’m assuming that your husband was given some “tricks” by his cardiologist to make his heart convert. It CAN be scary, for you and him. My sympathies
Looks like we have some models in here! You know, every time I see a package of Pampers with the baby on it, it reminds me so much of Joaquin. That baby has the same dark hair and big eyes.
Suki is sooo adorable.
M – I am so sorry about your grandmother. Take comfort in the fact that she led a good, full life.
Frozen Thin Mints with a tall glass of milk…..I’m in heaven just thinking about that
I’ve used the pickle juice for leg cramps, too. The only thing I’ve found is that the taste can be nasty. What I do is usually take a mouthful and then have a grape. But it DOES work. I don’t have a problem being dehydrated because I usually drink over 100oz a day. Since we usually don’t have pickles, I have to buy it off Amazon.
I know that I could never do keto. Just me, but I love my fruits and veges too much to give them up. Now sweets…that I could give up. But not my fruit! I hand it to anyone who can do that. At ceramics Wed. night the one gal asked me if there was anything that I absolutely loved. She said that she loves chips. Really, there isn’t anything that I can’t keep in the house because I go crazy eating it. I admit, sometimes I do have a stress-eating binge. But then the next day I can do without what it was I was stress eating.
Karen in BC – sorry you got bad news. If you’d like, get it off your shoulders here.
Yvonne – you’re looking to have the citrus tucked away? What is citrus? When I read that you wanted it tucked away, the only thing I could think of was “how do you tuck away oranges?”
Helped Vince work out in the garage starting to get things organized. Found things we didn’t even know we had!
Fatmah…what kind of help are you needing?
65 years of marriage! Wow! Makes me feel like a youngster only 40
I always get the plain yogurt and add frozen fruit to it. As the fruit defrosts, it leaves behind a sort of “juice”
Meg – how wonderful that you’re not hungry all the time. Great that your sugar went down so fast
Jess came home and wanted to go to Olive Garden. I think I was pretty good, had the minestrone soup, ½ of a breadstick, 2 orders of steamed broccoli, I did sample the wine and had a mouthful of Vince’s dessert. Just water to drink. And the mint afterwards
Barbie – hope you feel better real soon.

Machka--So sorry for your loss. Your grandmother sounds like a great lady. Salt of the Earth people like that just live their lives, make memories, and leave big holes when they're gone.
While we're on the subject of grandparents, I'll add my 2 cents. My grandmother died when she was only 58, but she really lived. She was one of the last people to have polio before the cure, and fortunately she recovered. I've heard many tales of the rocky relationship she had with my grandfather--even splitting up and finding a new man at one point. Grandpa died before her, and she swore there were no good men who could measure up. They raised four kids, and lost an infant son. They followed traditional roles, and Grandpa worked to support the family. Grandpa was an intimidating man, at least 6' tall with an iron gray flattop. Grandma was tougher, at barely 5' herself. He cheated on her once, and she slept with a knife for a long time, so he didn't make the mistake of thinking it was safe to come back to bed. She learned to use a shotgun, targeting rats in the field across from their house. She was Italian, and rumor has it the family changed their name to avoid legal/criminal retribution when they came to the US. I miss them both; they've been gone so long.
I drink lots of water, take magnesium supplements, and do stretches, but still get leg cramps. I guess they're milder than some--I've never passed out. I can get out of bed without fully waking up, I've done it so often. If I can't get out of bed, I try to grab my toes and pull them toward my shin, or hook my other foot around the one causing me pain.
Tracey in Edmonton--I wish I could give you a magic way to get your hubby to join you in fitness. My husband started long before I did, and I resisted for a few years. "It's easy. It's all about the calories," he'd say. I remembered long hours of exercising, eating salads and rabbit food, and being tired all the time. I wasn't interested. Nothing he could say or do would motivate me--even his genuine worry that I was going to die early. I resented any mention of my weight, or suggestions of what I should/shouldn't be eating. I'm stubborn sometimes.
What may work, is asking your husband if he would give you 20-30 minutes to listen to your concerns and ideas--as a gift. Let him know you're concerned about his health--not his body image. Ahead of time, work up his calorie profile to show him. Show him the calories of some of his recent meals, and show him some alternatives that he likes. Starvation and deprivation come to mind when you think of dieting. Change this. If he's competitive, offer a goal and reward. "If we both were in better shape, we could (fill in blank.") See if you can get him to give up just one thing you know is bad for him--like soft drinks. See if he'll go for walks with you. Ask him to drink a glass of water before he eats a snack. Have free weights by the couch when you watch TV, so he can do some easy curls. Remind him how much you love and need him. Men lose weight so fast, just changing one or two things can make a big difference. Good luck.
I'm keeping my dishes done. I've started washing a sinkful every night, rather than using my pathetic dishwasher. It makes me feel productive.
Today I saved one of my bath sheets destined for the rag bin. It needed stitching along two sides, and it looks great now. I also started putting away the Christmas decorations. I threw away a lot of damaged and ratty ornaments. I imagined keeping them for the kids, but they don't want my old decorations either.
I got my bicycle out and took it for a spin. I only made it two miles, since there were a lot of little kids on the trail, and I was having trouble avoiding them. I'm a lot more wobbly on the bike than ever before. I ran it into the grass a few times to avoid the little tricycle motors. I've got my cute basket and bell, so I don't look at all like a serious cyclist. I think I'm going to have to get a helmet and start riding on the roads and sidewalks instead of the park. The winding paths are designed for pedestrians. I got an app on my phone. I tried Strava, but it wasn't compatible with my old phone. Found one that tracks time, distance, route, and calories.
Today I'm down 70 lbs total! Five more for my next goal--beating my past weight loss. I need to map out a 5k course near home, so I can start practicing for the Color Run in March. I said I would register at the end of February if I know I can complete the course. I'll also need to look into public transportation--I'm not driving in Dallas if I can avoid it.
