WOMEN AGES 50 + FOR JANUARY 2019

I’ve been having computer problems related to my word program. DH succeeded in getting this back for me. The problem was originated from Microsoft. They accessed my information without my permission & converted all of my saved files to a huge font size. I am inconvenienced and also concerned about security and privacy of information on my computer. Microsoft has invaded my privacy in a blatant effort to force me to buy new software from them. I am guessing that many others are having similar problems. I can’t imagine this is only an attack on my privacy.
I hope others don’t also have this problem.
Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon
PS: I am angry! DH helped me get the mess straightened out and enabled me to make this post. Big thanks to him and I hope microsoft gets a severe backlash.
January 2019 Resolutions
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours nightly.
6. Avoid alcohol.
Halt Stress :
1. Am I hungry?
2. Am I angry?
3. Am I lonely?
4: Am I tired?
For any yes answer, you have a practical way to help yourself. If I am hungry, I eat. If I am angry I can find a way to address the problem that caused anger. If I’m lonely, I can chat with this wonderful group, or DH, or call a friend. If I’m tired I can rest or sleep. It doesn’t make life perfect, but it sure helps smooth out some bumps.

Another beautiful day here. 70 degrees, no coat required. Walk and weight training done.
Dinner is Creamy Parmesan Lemon Chicken with Artichokes from the freezer. Tomorrow I plan on making the Ranch Chicken soup again and chicken salad.

Michelle in PNW - I am guessing that you have the wrong star... so when you are in the Jan. thread reading, go to the top of the page, then look down until you see the page numbers listed at the top there is a little star there if you click on it, it will change colors from grey to yellow.... you want it to be yellow. That book marks it.
Then to find your book marks, when you log in - touch the community tab, then the grey star and all the book marks will come up.
Kim in N. Cal2 -
Katla - I have not had that problem, what version of MS word or office are you running?
Kim0 -
Micheller- It sounds like you need to bookmark January. You want to click on the "empty" star that is on the same line as our group title Women Ages 50+ for January 2019. The star will turn yellow after you click on it. Hope that helps! KJ0

Lanette- How funny about your hubby driving you to drink! lol I had a glass or two of wine every evening while I was on vacation and DH wondered why I was drinking so much. He doesn't drink anymore since it doesn't agree with his meds. It bothered him until I assured him that it couldn't become a habit, since most days (5 out of 7) I have a child in my care until 11:30. A couple nights of a couple glasses a wine, just makes me feel like I am on a mini vacation. Plus, I am a light weight. Two glasses and it is a very relaxed me going down the hall to bed. KJ (Kelly)5

Kelly - LOL! I kind of miss the old days of having a beer or two - very strange now, even the smell of it and especially the odor of red wine makes me queasy. Like being a reformed smoker! Don't know if it's my allergies or what. My DH still has a beer or two most days, even tho it's not good with his meds but he rarely overdoes it.
I decided to just quit beer and wine a couple years ago because I was tired of the calories and bloating and it made me lazier than I wanted to be. I wouldn't mind a nice Bloody Mary though!
So enjoy it and relax! You deserve a mini vacation!

Did Jackie 30 Day Fast Start DVD. the plan for tomorrow is to do and Ultimate Weight Training and Cardio DVD.
Got most of the Christmas decorations in. Still have the arches to do tomorrow. Vince is planning to organize the garage tonight.
Vince used to get me a bag of Dove each and every holiday. Finally, one year I asked him not to get me any candy and ever since then he hasn’t
Panderson – Let me express my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband and your son. What kind of degree are you going for?
PartyPerson – many is the time (especially when I’m at the Green Room for some reason) that I eat my breakfast later. I usually have ½ a bran muffin just to have something in my stomach (plus I need to drink water with it)
Denise just told us that she scheduled her baby shower for 3/24 after Jess asked her if Denise wanted Jess to arrange it since Jess was Maid of Honor. To me, scheduling it yourself is like asking for presents. Then again, Denise is very materialistic like Pete’s family. But not my baby. I never had a baby shower and I didn’t miss it.
Took Jess to the airport this morning. She left a lot of things in her room, I just put them in the closet. I’d really like her to clean out her closet again so I have room to put things in when she just leaves it here. She brought Shadow back here but asked if we’d meet Colby ½ way and he can watch Shadow while we’re in FL. She hadn’t thought far enough in advance to tell us if Shadow is coming back here after we get back from FL or not. I sort-of suspect so (I hope so)
Allie – when I go to any restaurant, I do exactly what Barbie does. Denise says “ma, by the time you’re finished, it doesn’t even look like what’s on the menu”. But I don’t care, I want what I want and have NEVER had a problem getting it.
Cari – I always ask for my salad without cheese or croutons. Only once did they put it on and I sent it back. I also ask for the dressing on the side and rarely use it. I order senior and kids meals, too. Surprisingly, most restaurants will give you the kids portion. Only problem is many times the kids menu consists of things deep fried.
Rebecca – I don’t have a problem with you posting your meals. Only problem is…I need to pass them by because they look so so good
Vince and Jess kept going on and on last night how sugar, even natural sugar, is still sugar – same molecular structure. I finally told them that it’s what the refined sugar is on that’s the problem. Oh, what to do? I don’t crave sugar and sometimes don’t want it. I want my fruits and veges. Why won’t they leave me alone? I don’t tell them that what they’re eating is bad.

How do I join this group?4

Hi friends. It was beautiful here today, in the 50s, but I have had a headache all day so I haven't really done much. I did walk the 1/2 block to the mailbox. I plan to get on the cross trainer for 30 minutes after dinner, then I think I'll head to bed early tonight.
Barbara: I had to ask too! A back facial is a facial on your back They just literally do the same treatments on your back they would normally do on your face. Plus it's easy for the esthetician to see if you have any suspicious spots that you should get checked out. It was very relaxing. I bought a membership at Massage Envy in November, and that was my December treat. This month I will have a massage.
OK ladies. I'm going to check out of here and have something for dinner. Take care all and I WILL be back tomorrow! Meg from sunny Omaha2 -
Pip: I carry a protein snack with me when I go out, as I often feel an energy low if I don't eat regularly. I seldom need it, but it's a great comfort to know that I won't have to eat some rubbish just to keep from fainting.

I’m having problems using microsoft word to make my comments to the group. Normally I open a word document & make comments for the the group & then copy & paste it into the thread. Now they want me to rebuy their program. Advice welcome!

Did your subscription run out at the end of the year?
You can use Wordpad if you need to.

@ljhendrickson63 Just keep coming back frequently & post. We have a new thread every month. Welcome!1

ljhendrickson--To join here, you just jump in. Respond to any comments, or drop one of your own. Check in as often as you can; it moves very fast here. (19 pages in 5 days.) We talk about anything here, since many things can affect health and fitness. Some are maintaining their goals, and some are still striving to reach theirs. Sign off with a name we can call you, and a general location, so we can get to know you better.
K. Karen--I was all set to tell you those fortune cookies were 107 calories each, but it seems I've been looking at them wrong. They're only 30 each; that 107 I've been living by must be for a certain weight, not an individual cookie. Still, if I'm going to have sugar, I think I'll save the calories for a piece of Dove dark chocolate instead, at 42 cal.
I found another way to write long responses. I just type the comments at the bottom of the page I'm on, and then copy it before I go to the next page. Then I paste it to the comment section of that page, and add more. It's more scrolling up and down, but I don't have to open another document.
Today I got in a walk with my husband. 2.5 miles was easy with the nice weather we had today. I really think I'll be able to do the 5k in March. I won't be able to run it, but it's not a serious race. Christmas decorations are almost all down, and packed away. I made some chicken breast and green beans in my Instant Pot. I'm still learning how to use it. My beans were awesome, but the chicken needed a second run to finish cooking it.

That's more or less what I do.

Long day,and I must say I didn't need a nap...
That's a first..anyway ordered steak and provolone cheese and sauteed mushrooms in a bowl in instead of a grinder..and I had one slice of veggie pizza and just scraped the toppings off the crust...then came home and did a little bit of grocery shopping for my neighbor did some dishes ,got her meds together and helped her into her nightgown..
Will go up after I feed Buddy in the morning and help her get dressed and do some laundry for her, then come back at night and get her ready for bed again..

OK! Here goes nothing. I'm 56, obese and ready to be healthy!! I've been working with a trainer for about a month and now I want to start making more changes to move closer to being healthy and fit. I currently have the unholy trinity of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I've been overweight for most of my life and have used food for comfort to celebration and everything in between.
I have four sisters and three of them also struggle with weight issues. We recently started a book club and while working through a Brene Brown book uncovered a lot about each other. So this year, we changed our food-focused holiday celebration into a day of games and fun. It was awesome.
While I don't have any human children, I'm very close to my nieces and nephews and their kids (my greats).
Cassie is my 14 year old Akita mix and she's my angel! She has seen me through a divorce and several losses that I truly don't know how I would have survived without her.
Here's her pic:

Allie, great ordering at the restaurant. The more often you do it, the better you'll get at the process.1

@Irish Terry- Great choice in walking before computering! Since I walk either around my house hallway or up and down driveway, I actually do pretty well reading and walking. In fact, I was walking when I read your comment! LOL!
@ Allie- Great job on the food choices. I am sure your neighbor appreciates your help as well.
@ Lisa- I sure hope you are feeling better! My SIL had surgery for that years ago. Hers was severe, but she said the surgery was AWFUL! The belly issues that you are experiencing I understand from my time pre-gall bladder surgery. I actually kept extra clothes at work for emergencies.
@ Cari and Machka- Thank you for the tip! I never thought to do that. The last few nights I look back pages on my phone while typing on my computer. Your tip will make it easier.
@ Rebecca- Please keep sharing your meals. You give me great ideas!
@ Michele in NC- You just stick to your guns about your eating. It works for you! While I haven't given up sugar in any form, I am finding that if I eat real food, I don't crave the sweets. Also, if I have them available, I tend to not want them....strange, I know!
@ Kelly- My husband wishes I drank more often. I am definitely a social drinker. I want to sit and enjoy a beverage. I am no good trying to get anything done if drinking. I too tend to drink more while on vacation. Nothing to do but watch the sunset, sit in the hot tub, and maybe play some pool at the cabin.
@ Cathy- sounds yummy! It was pretty here too! In the 50's with sunshine. I am really afraid that when winter does show up it is going to be nasty!
Well ladies, It has been a productive day! I hit my steps and calorie goal! Worked until 2. Got grocery shopping done, cleaned the gutters out and roof off, cleaned the windows on my truck, vacuumed the interior of truck, have dishwasher going, and garage towels in the laundry. I am beat! I am pleased with my eating today though.
I found my Fitbit One! I knew I put it somewhere but couldn't remember where. I almost bought a new one today, but decided to wait until Monday if I didn't find it this weekend. It was in my headboard drawer tangled up in my dream catcher feathers. I had already looked in that drawer three times-smh! I have the Alta HR which I love for its heart rate monitoring, but it just doesn't do well counting my steps since I am usually pushing or carrying something. I just slide the little guy in my pants pocket. My Alta has a really pretty silver and leather band. It is like wearing a bracelet. I will keep you posted on how the two compare.
I am going to get off here and do some reading. Have a great evening!
Welcome to the new ladies! Just jump right in! This is a chatty group, so don't feel you have to comment on everything. Check in often though.
Thank you all for your support and love!

Laura from Bedford Welcome! You will find lots of ladies on here who have successfully lost lots of weight and kept it off. Age makes no difference. We are all willing to support. There are several different styles, strategies, and plans. You have to figure out what works for you. The one thing we all agree on is that you have to log what passes your lips. It is eye opening. Small changes work best for me, but some jump in with both feet. For me giving up soda was the first step. I don't deny myself anything, I quit soda for health reasons and haven't ever wanted another. I try to keep what I eat within my calories recommended. That doesn't always work, but that is the goal. My scale has been stuck literally on the same number for 2 weeks. I have increased my water intake and done okay with calories. I quit logging when S*** hit the fan for me in Sept. I was within 4 pounds of my goal. I am now 12 pounds away. So since my scale stopped moving, I had to look at what else I needed to change. I have added my steps back in. Hoping to see some movement soon!
Your fur baby is cute. I am almost 56, mother of two, grandmother of 4 and furry baby mommy to a German Shepherd and a Pyrenees mix. They are both 12 years old.
Hope to see you often!

Good day today. Even though I went to a funeral two states away (friend's father), I stayed on plan, ate under calories, got my recumbent bike exercise in, and didn't have a snack when we stopped. While the others went into the store, I walked to get some steps in. Hope you all have a wonderful evening!4

My word for 2019 is RENEWAL.
After reaching my heaviest weight in 2004 (age 40), I lost 50 lbs and kept it off for over 3 years. Since then I've gone up and down between 10 - 40 lbs and I'm ready to end this cycle. Just 2 years ago I was running 5k and 10k races, but my fitness and nutrition have gradually fallen off. I'd like to lose at least 40 lbs and then maintain. For January I'm working on being consistent with exercise and I started back logging food today after a hiatus of several months (been on and off MFP for a few years). My life has been in the state of instability over the last 18 months, so renewal is my goal.

My soup prep:
My soup all simmered!
I was supposed to have this for dinner, but then I fixed it at 3pm. My dinner was my yogurt and walnuts. My snack was my Kashi chocolate cookies and coffee. A good day!

Laura – you join this group by posting!!!!! Welcome. Cute doggie
Denise just called to ask us if we were going to buy the bedroom furniture! We hadn’t even thought about it! Someone in Pete’s family wants to get it but “doesn’t want to step on any toes”. Sounds like it’s someone who has a head. Well, I understand it’s Pete’s bio family, that’s probably why his bio dad left his wife. Talk about materialistic. Denise told me that the rocking chair she wants is $600, a baby monitor - $300, she wants a forehead thermometer and a temporal scanner thermometer. Am I just that much out of touch? She wants a bathtub that that has a thermometer and a scale in it.

Katla, I've sometimes opened MFP twice, then have it set up so both are visible side by side on the computer. I then read one site and type in the other. When I'm done reading and commenting, I simply post the reply. Works like a charm and no MS Word is needed. Good luck!
Chocolate has been calling my name the last few days and I've been answering. Not good, but...... the scale is still cooperating, just have to remember that I can't get away with it indefinitely. I have been watching everything else, fortunately no cookies here or at work that interest me, so that's good!
Kim, I know this is well past now, but I'm so sorry that your brother was such a nasty pill over Christmas and about new years eve with your nephew. I do love your idea about the celebration of life, perhaps your nephew would care to join!
That's it for me for now. Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
