Rebecca- I thought you were eating a keto diet? I must be thinking of someone else. I was going to share some websites but I don't know who that was.

Penny & Pip: What are the chances that the two of you are actually sisters? Seems plausible.  At the very least, you seem to be sisters of the heart.

Carol in GA: It sounds as though you have a serious worry regarding your DBIL. Good luck to you & your DH. Is he close enough to drop in on him a couple of times a week? Do you think he needs to be in an assisted living facility?

Clowe1028: Thanks for posting the link to the real skinny on fat. I watched this series before and would love to see it again.

Cathy in Arlington: Are any of you watching the Outlander Series on Starz? I bought the books as they came out and have read them all, some of them more than once. I am so impressed with the TV production. They’ve done a stellar job so far.

I love all her books and the series as well. She has such a great ear for dialogue and wonderful insight into social nuances. And her research skills are second to none! I enjoy the audio books particularly. Davina Porter (?) Is a terrific voice actress.

    Happy National Cuddle Up Day!

"... there are multiple benefits to cuddling with human or canine or other pet. Cuddling releases oxytocin. Besides giving us warm and fuzzy feelings, oxytocin reduces pain. So when the cold has made those muscles and joints ache, cuddling can help reduce those aches and pains. Oxytocin also helps reduce heart disease, reduces blood pressure, stress and anxiety. If it weren’t free, cuddling would probably be covered by health insurance it’s such a huge health benefit!"

I'm so far behind. Here goes:

drkatiebug - Sixty-five years of cherries, beautiful! Mom tried hard to make it their fiftieth anniversary but cancer had other plans. Still, they were each other's one and only for forty-eight years. It just broke Dad when she died.

Bonnie - I know, right? Just the thought of drinking pickle juice makes my salivary glands pucker. My brother and his family really like pickles though, so I guess it's not so bad for them. Yuck. Hope your schnauzer's forever home is wonderful - we've been foster parents for a long time and I know it's hard to let them go sometimes, but it helps when you know it's a happy ending! My latest greyhound landed in a home where he is ridiculously spoiled and pampered... every time his new mom posts a photo to Facebook I get warm fuzzies.

Michele - We have a key lime tree and a satsuma tree, both in containers. (Our bay laurel is also container-grown.) It gets too cold here for all of them in the winter - not for long, but enough that we are forever having to move them around, cover and uncover, etc. I'll be glad to have them in a greenhouse where they can live for good! I'm hoping to start a ponderosa lemon tree from the tree in my sister's front yard once I have a stable place for it.

Janet - I adore cherries but when it comes to chocolate-covered ones I think they're a waste of both chocolate and cherries. I'd rather have fresh cherries.

Rebecca - Your sunroom looks nice and bright with its roof and windows clean!

panderson - What a terrible string of losses - I'm so sorry! Welcome back, and just remember grief doesn't have an end date. You are very strong to be moving forward with your life.

Kelly - I'm glad you enjoy the special days! I often pick the most ridiculous ones I can find, just for fun.

Laura - Cassie is a beautiful girl!

Penny - Thank you for sharing the story about the rescue of the Northguider crew!

Tried to donate blood yesterday but got turned away for low hematocrit (again!) even though I'm on an iron supplement and I had a steak dinner the night before. So I'll hold off for a week and work on bumping up my nutritional sources as well as cutting out any foods that can block iron absorption. This has been an ongoing issue for awhile. It's a big waste of time to go there, get signed in, and get all the way through the check-in interview then get turned away, so I want to get to the bottom of it!

I just got back from a long walk with Luna, and dinner is already taken care of since I turned the leftover Christmas turkey into gumbo yesterday. Mom's recipe - it is the ultimate comfort food for me, so I guess it's a good thing that its nutritional stats aren't too bad.

Philip is working today so I'm going to treat myself to a cuddle-up on the the sofa with the dog, cats, and/or even the parrots if they'll let me.

    Get yourself cuddled!

    -Yvonne in TX

A blood nurse told me once that you should start eating more mindful (iron wise), about a week before you're due to donate. I always thought, oh a bunch of spinach the night before is good enough, but nope!

Laura – you join this group by posting!!!!! Welcome. Cute doggie

Denise just called to ask us if we were going to buy the bedroom furniture! We hadn’t even thought about it! Someone in Pete’s family wants to get it but “doesn’t want to step on any toes”. Sounds like it’s someone who has a head. Well, I understand it’s Pete’s bio family, that’s probably why his bio dad left his wife. Talk about materialistic. Denise told me that the rocking chair she wants is $600, a baby monitor - $300, she wants a forehead thermometer and a temporal scanner thermometer. Am I just that much out of touch? She wants a bathtub that that has a thermometer and a scale in it.

Did Ultimate Weight Training and Cardio DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to hold my plank then take the extremepump class. I might add something else in there, I’m not sure. Bowling then ceramics then mahjongg.

I got a friend request from a markcorino. I’m just going to delete it

M – we were thinking that for the baby initially we’d get the crib, but we really hadn’t looked into it. Now I’m thinking more on the lines of a car seat that goes into a stroller and one of the two diaper bags that she wants. How many diaper bags you can use at any one time, that I don’t know. How nice you met your stepson

Barbara and Lanette – Vince had told us how right after he had the tibial plateau fracture and they operated on him, the PT people came in his hosp. room the next day and had him get up. He screamed in pain. Know their answer? They closed the door.

Kylia – I know what you mean about the baby stuff. Denise asking for a baby tub with the thermometer and scale in it. I used to put my elbow in the water to be sure the temp was OK. I took the baby to the doctor to get it weighed. Actually, the baby’s weight isn’t as critical when they’re infants, it’s when they’re older that you need to be more concerned. She’s just gotten very materialistic. Two diaper bags? How many can you use at one time? Two thermometers? The thermometer I used was a kiss. But not me…… Personally, when I saw the picture of the crib she picked out, I wasn’t impressed at all. I thought it ugly. Then again, I only saw a picture

KJ – no, I’m not going to say anything to Denise about her baby choices. I just think some of them are ridiculous. She will figure it out. I guess she doesn’t care if things are expensive since others are buying them. I bet if she were buying them, she’d be thinking twice about what features she really needs. Well, I’ll just let her bask in her glory. I suspect she has no idea how much a baby changes your life! Right now she works at a daycare but at the end of the day the kids go home. After she has the baby, at the end of the day she still has a child to care for. Changes…… I’m thinking we’ll get her the car seat/stroller combo and one of the diaper bags. I swear, every time you post a pic of Joaquin, I could just squeeze him. He’s going to be a real lady killer when he grows up

Regarding gym: I like to exercise at home, but it’s just me, I need the comradery of a class. I really only go to two classes/week – the extremepump and the water class. But I need to have intereaction with others. The other days I have no problem doing something on my own.

Katla – do you know if you are RH-? My mother had a few miscarriages before I was born. I believe the reason I survived was because I’m negative. My mother was probably negative but had a natural miscarriage the first time. Of course, at that time they didn’t know about giving negative moms the Rhogam

Finished bringing in the Christmas decorations. Did a few other little things outside. It’s so very nice – sunny in the high 50’s. If it were up to me, I’d open the pool. Of course, they’re talking about snow next week (boo), but why not worry about next week when it gets here?

Made some homemade dog biscuits for the gal that we play mahjongg at tomorrow. She just got a new dog (remember I used to give lettuce ribs to the other dog who died of, basically, a broken heart). For the life of me I can’t understand why someone would pay high money for a dog when there are so many at the shelter. But that’s just me.

    Diane – welcome

Bonnie – I would have been a foster failure just like Jess was. So happy for you and Ollie. I cried when we had to give the service dog back, even tho I knew that the only reason he could help a disabled person was because of the love we gave him. But it still hurt.

SuBDew~I have PKD not horrible but still .. I finally decided that Keto is the way to go for me.. even though there are proteins in there ,it outweighs my qualms and if I can lost close to 5 lbs in less than a week eating this way then I will keep doing it.. will see what my kidney Dr says on next appointment , and will wait for a few weeks before I go for bloodwork.. to many people with great results to to stick my nose up at it...

5 lbs a week is really aggressive. The recommendation is no more than 2 lbs/week.

Vicki - I couldn’t work 13/14 days any longer, and am I mistaken or do you work 12’s as well?

Meg - what a great idea to put you on the top of your lists. I never put myself on the list top or bottom. What is in my best interest? I may have to post that where I can see it daily. Thank you for sharing.

Rebecca- I love your idea of lasagna in mini loaf pans. I may do that for myself too. I love your “food porn” posts.

Michele - friend request for Markcirino. I think I deleted that one earlier today as well. A lot of friend requests the last few days actually and not members of any groups I participate in.

Our eldest daughter and grandchildren came and spent the day. It was the first time in probably close to 3 months that Lauryn was able to visit as well as she had the day off. It was a really nice lazy day. We watched a couple of tv specials that I had recorded to watch with her. The kids played and tuned into the shows occasionally.

I bought a couple of mugs today to try my first attempt at vinyl tomorrow. I am just trying to come up with a design. 1 for me, 1 for Rodger.

I have given a lot of thought and I have finally decided that my word of the year will be Determined.
The year I quit smoking I was determined to do it and I will be celebrating 10 years smoke free on May 11th. When I am determined I tend to be very successful. My Dad used to call this my Stubborn.

This year I am determined to:
    - reach my goal weight of 140.
    - find a job that I love that pays well
    - become a better listener with Rodger, I tend to interrupt him a lot thinking I know what I’m going to say. I’m usually wrong and I don’t do that to anyone else. I need to stop it with him.
    - Continue to work on my Faith
    - Continue to be Grateful each day

Machka- Your vacation spot looks fantastic! Were you staying in that little town on the water's edge? Was that the ocean or a lake? I would probably die quickly if I lived in your country, because I would be the adult crawling into that tree's roots or needing to be "in" nature. I am sure some bug or reptile would get me. I also love the older pics of your grandparents! It is wonderful freeze frame of time. AND the pics of you, your mom, and your grandmother?! Boy, does the family resemblance run strong in you three!

We were in the next town over (which you can't see in the photos). It is also on a bay and is located halfway in between the rainforest walk we did and the climb. We stayed in a lovely and quiet resort out there, with a great restaurant! The resort also had a pool and gym, so I rowed, lifted weights and ran on the treadmill at different times.

You do have to watch where you walk or put your hand etc. here.

Back at work today ... making it through.

Back to eating my usual lunches.

I eat chicken, rice, and veg just about every lunch, and I keep the chicken and rice in my drawer at work. I just bring a packet of steam fresh veg into work each day.

    h4junxe8xh7v.png

    8z9h6m0hpndb.png

    96fsokahw5c8.png

And it comes to a total of 311 calories. Actually ... I might need to update the chicken. Looks like that number has dropped. It's meant to be 75 not 50. Gotta watch that in the food database, I've noticed a few foods have suddenly changed their calorie numbers ... someone has updated them.

Morning, afternoon and evening, my peeps...

Sharon (Trucker) - good to see you, was wondering if you'd had your surgery yet.

Felicia - you seem to be enjoying what would be my nightmare. I did OK in Carlsbad Caverns (which if you haven't been, no tight spots, no small spaces, pretty much wide open throughout), and then the thought occurred of all that earth above my head, and I started getting sweaty and uncomfortable. Not claustrophobic, as far as I know... just not something I'd do again.

Penny - so glad for a happy ending to the search and rescue, and all are safe. You are a great story-teller.

Allie - glad you've found something that works.

To all the new folks, welcome, we're glad you found us, keep coming back!

Traveling today and tomorrow... Will probably check in from the Little Rock hotel tonight/tomorrow morning. Okay, hubby's up, time to get my work laptop packed up and everything ready to go. Love y'all!

  • For goodness sake!!! I'm on the 1240 calorie limit and am STARVING!!!!!
just had a slice of banana loaf and now I've got almost no calories left for supper.
I need to lose 17 lbs but I am not sure whether this calorie limit is realistic. I crave food all the time.
I try to have a high protein breakfast at earliest 10h00 and I'm fine for two hours or so but by 13h00 I 'm ready to destroy my fridge.
    How do I find balance?

Bianca~ I was like that all the time and just mindlessly snacked , I have found out doing Keto you dont have that or if you get a bit hungry I grab a cheddar cheese stick or a hard boiled egg...
Lanette~ thank you I signed up for the series thanks for posting the link...
Machka~ I will not set a goal to lose 5 lbs a week and not doing anything aggressively.. im down 1.6 lbs from yesterday.. I started Keto on the first and just following the guidelines and am committed to see myself through this.. the only one who can control me is me... so I will do what I need to do to lose the weight I need to..
slept pretty well but always have to get up once or twice to go potty..
well of the showers.. then walk Alfie and then go walk homer and chester and then feed DFIL and then come back go see another lady here and start her car and run it for 5 min or so and then take out some garbage for her.. for that she is paying me 30.00 a month.. takes me all of 15 mins once a week or so
and taking care of Kitty she is paying me 12.50 an hr, so I think that money I will sock in savings , so maybe just maybe I could have a vacation this year...

    That's why I exercise.

I stayed on net 1250 calories for 16 weeks and lost 15 kg. :)

But I was able to eat pizza and all sorts of things because I exercised. Now you've got to be realistic about the exercise. I estimated that a brisk walk where my heart rate was elevated and I was breathing harder than usual (and walking about 5-6 km/h) burned about 200 calories/hour. I'd eat 100 of those calories back.

A 100 km bicycle ride burned about 100 calories for each 5 km so that burned about 2000 calories. So I'd get a pizza worth about 1500 calories.

    And so on.

    That worked for me! :)

Machka thanks for the pics, especially love the one of your grands by the cabin and your gran with a bicycle (your apple didn't fall far...). Met your stepson for the first time today? He must live far away?
