Yes, he went a good 20 years before her. She was 20 years younger than him, but she always loved him and wore her wedding ring. I think they're together again.

Machka I loved the photos, especially the generation pictures. What a lovely grandmother you had. If I am interpreting what you said correctly, your grandfather also lived to be quite old?

Thank you to everyone.
My grandmother was ready to go. She's been getting weaker for the past 6 months, and has been hospitalised for about the past month, so we knew it was getting closer to her time. We all told her we loved her in the weeks (and months) before the end. She did have a good life and went peacefully in her sleep.
My grandfather lived from Jan 8, 1901 - Jan 26, 1993. For some reason, I thought he passed away in 1996, but I checked with my parents on that. So he was 92. I'm pretty sure my great grandmother was 94 and my great grandfather was 87. So there's a lot of longevity on my mother's side of the family.
Not so much on my father's side, unfortunately.
I won't go for the service but thank goodness for modern technology to keep in touch with my family.

Chocolate covered cherries- I always buy them for my DH for Christmas! I love chocolate covered Strawberries but leave the cherries to him.
I buy a box every year for Jack and put in his stocking. I DO NOT like them. I also get him miniature Reeses peanut butter cups and ask him to keep them out of sight because I LOVE them.

So I weighed in after the holiday season today ... and I've gained 300 grams.
After an incredibly stressful and busy year, I was able to take 2 weeks off. We travelled, we ate, we slept and rested, and we exercised.
Turns out that was a good combination.

The talk of Grandmothers has reminded me of my maternal grandmother. I grew up living beside her and like Rebecca she was my best friend. When I was a teen and ran away from home I ended up living with my grandparents for about 1 year.
My Father favourite story of “Mother”, that was his name for her, was one time she was leaving to go to work. My Grandfather was a worrier and was telling her how to back out of the driveway. My Dad was in the passenger seat as his car was in for repairs. Grampie told Grammie to put her foot on the brake, out the car in reverse and slowly let off the brake. Dad said, “your grandfather backed up away from the car, your Grandmother put the car in reverse and floored it backing down the driveway while saying “dam**it, you think I had never driven before. Dad said this was the only time he ever heard my Grandmother swear.
I later learned by reading her diaries she had probably been driving for close to 40 years at that point. She was given her drivers license by going to Grampie’s brothers mechanic shop and buying it. I guess during the war you didn’t have to take exams just have the money to buy it.

My grandmother lived next door to me, and early on was easily one of my best friends. I never understood my classmates at school when they would whine about having to go to their grandparents. I went on many car trips in my grandma's cute gold Dodge Dart. She would inch up the hills and zoom down them! She also would tell me stories with her teeth out. Such a character she was💖.

Rebecca You jogged a memory for me! A wonderful childhood memory. We had a cabin on an irrigation lake 8 miles out of town. One route we sometimes took home was a very hilly road. Usually not another car in sight. My mother would traverse the hills so that your stomach was left up in the air at the crucial moment. Momentarily weightless. We laughed and laughed. It was so silly and fun. Thank You!

My sunroom ceiling Windows are clean. He also piled up all the tree bits from the roof, bagged them up, and then sprayed the roof for moss. Waiting for that first great rain to make it cleaner.👍
But its nice of the owner to get it done!

Kylia... I had atriel flutter last Jan 2018 my heart rate was 180-190 .. the hospital till my heart dropped to under 100 had my first. ablation done. Was off work for 7 weeks. My fight or flight hormone button was on full throttle. I could not control my fear. My negative thoughts would jump start my anxiety. Then a week before thanks giving I went into a- fib. again I was in the hospital for 2 weeks as my heart did not convert. Just when they thought the meds would take my heart rate would go up. They put me in for an emergency ablation on my left side and did the right side again. A total of 3 ablations in one year.I have perfect peace now. I just learned to let go of everything I was holding onto. My life, My kids, My husband, my Work. My grandchildren. Put it all in Gods hands. And such sweet peace surrounds me. This will be something I will have for the rest of my life. But I feel confident. As I know who holds all my tomorrows. 😊🙇♀️ praying for your husband's healing. I'm sorry for what you are going through. I see how it affects my husband watching me. Every day is such a gift to me and my family. My friends are so much sweeter to love.
Leg cramps. My friend says they use apple cider vinegar with water and honey and give to the elderly in the nursing home she works. I get all leg cramps in my left leg when I try ti flip in bed. It seems my new sleep apnea machine is helping me. I still drink the apple ciderin water every night. And am still very cautious putting my weight on that leg to flip.
Goodnight everyone God bless and sleep well.😊3 -
Hi. I am starting today...again. I live in the Saint Paul, Minnesota metro area. I guess my word for the year would be survivor. My husband passed away suddenly in September and I dropped out of school to grieve but am going back in two weeks to finish my degree. My 33 year-old son passed away the year previous. I was with both of them when they passed. That is why I chose the word survivor because I need to handle all those events and come out stronger. I see so many inspiring posts. I love reading them.18

Hi Gals,
I’m catching up!
Carol (peach) – who would be the legal “next of kin” for your BIL? Is there a child or wife? From a legal stand point they would be able to step in if he is legally unable to make his own decisions. This information is helpful as often the “legal” person is not who you want to do the decision making so then you can have the discussion about who you would want, and how to put that in place. That allows the conversation to be had.
** Later I see you are staying out of the situation – not a bad option either!
Machka – thinking of you and sending hugs! The pictures are great and you really take after your grandmother!
Heather – I love hearing about Hove and the great times you are having finding new shops and restaurants.
Happy New Year to all!
I most days get over 10K steps, but at this point am keeping track with my phone, so if it gets left in my purse or on the counter, no counting! I had a fitbit for a while, and just really didn’t like it on my wrist all the time – I’m a minimalist when it comes to jewelry or extras… I decided I wanted to get a yearly daily average steps on my phone for 2019 up – 2018 was 9,526 and I’d like to see it at about 11K for 2019 a huge part of that is remembering my phone. It’s only the 4th and I left it at home when Levi and I took our walk this morning! GRR that’s 1.5 miles not listed on my phone. So I am walking around the house and walking in place. A friend is working on me to join a local gym, and while I am tempted, they will only give you a reasonable price if they set the monthly fee to be taken out of your bank account and that gives them access; I am super uncomfortable with this.. I’ll be checking in with my bank on what is in place to protect me.

Machka, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. I too see a huge resemblance between you and her, and you've certainly got her feisty, never quit spirit!
Allie, when do you meet with the new owner? Sounds like your eating plan is working well for you, congrats!
Day 4 for me, going fairly well, having a few bumps along the way, but that's to be expected. And I didn't gain all this in one week, can't expect to take it off that fast! Sure would be nice tho......😋
Thinking of so many of you whom are experiencing grief, hoping that fond memories will help you through these tough times.
Congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Big whine:
What do y'all do for the muscle soreness from new activities? Yesterday did SWSY, then line dancing. Today could barely stand up from chair. Did stretches, had massage. Still Oww. Was determined to meet steps goal, found a 120 bpm playlist on YouTube with songs I like and did 3 songs at a time between catching up here a page at a time. Tried to re-frame the feeling as good, evidence the muscles are getting stronger, burning fat, whatever but OWWWW! Is soreness a necessary and permanent part of fitness? If so, I'll take chocolate.
Karen in VA, the "positive procrastination" seems to be helping me... when I don't want to work on A, I can choose to work on B, or C. Still gets needed things done and leaves me feeling better about myself than 10 mins of Spider solitaire
KJ SEVEN little ones under the age of 5? SMH in wonder at you. Nap time couldn't be long enough for me
CJ Welcome back. "the person who hit me" would you share your story again, I missed it.
Katla add me to the ice=broken wrist club... twice. Also once on gravel and once trying to learn how to Xcountry ski. Ice is why we moved to the coast
Irish Terri, what kind of dancing?
Yvonne we gave Chocolate Covered Cherries to Papa on his birthday, Feb 22 same as Cherry Tree Washington. Look forward to envying the pic of your citrus in greenhouse.
Was it Katla? "If you ever see me running" made me snort my TJ's mandarin bubble water.
Cathy in Arlington "...never having to set an alarm" Amen, sister... except for those to remind me to go to T'ai Chi or Line Dancing
Margaret Would Epsom salts relieve muscle soreness too?
Janetr Brr! Beautiful pics, but chilling reminder of why we left Idaho. Dang that good lookin' GD apple didn't fall far from your tree!

So I've made it a whole 3 days on the diet and don't feel too bad - have allowed myself to go over the low cal when I was really hungry with a healthy snack to stop the need to break into the biscuit tin. The real test is the weekend when there isn't work to distract me and my skinny family are eating everything in sight. So strategies for today...
1. Eat breakfast as late as possible so that I see it as a treat (not too sure how this will work but need to find a way to avoid the mid-morning biscuits with the family)
2. Every time they go for the sweets I go for a walk...
3. Try to keep busy...I'm thinking that if it is dry it might be time to do some clearance work in the garden.
4. Go to the bike shop and see if there is some way to change the gears so I can actually use my bike (recovering from wrist surgery and just don't have enough grip in that hand)
Any other suggestions to avoid temptation at the weekends?3 -

I thought a lot about my grandmother on this run ... pretended like I was showing her around the area where I live. I don't know, perhaps she can see it now.
I learned a couple things on this run. Actually, I learned them after the run. I felt good when I got home. I hopped in the shower and started feeling a little "off", and by the time I finished my shower, I really didn't feel very good at all. I took a couple electrolyte tablets and lay down. About 10 minutes later, feeling really dizzy and a bit nauseated, I called for my husband and asked if he could bring me some real coke. We have some, by accident. It was delivered one time in a grocery delivery ... it's not something we order or usually have. But about 10 minutes after drinking a glass of real coke, with the sugar, I felt better. But I napped a bit before getting up.
I had eaten about 12:30 and didn't start my run until 3:40. Then I ran for 2 hours, and as mentioned above, hopped in the shower, etc. Dizziness and nausea hit me a little after 6 pm. So I had gone nearly 6 hours without food, and had burned over 1000 calories in that time. In other words, I bonked. NOT the British definition!! Bonking is usually a cycling term meaning that a person's blood sugar level has dropped into dangerously low levels ... essentially, the person has run out of fuel.
OK, that means I need to eat something small right before my run, and perhaps carry something with me.
The other thing is that it was a warm day, I sweated lots, and I didn't take electrolytes. So ... I need to remember to take electrolytes before I run.
In a way, I'm glad this happened this week, so that I know for next week.

Morning all!
Waiting for DH to leave the house to meet his daughter. She didn't catch the earlier train, but I'm hoping she'll get the next one. Messing up his day. Grrrrrrrrrr! But he loves her, so ......
I'm taking down the Christmas decs. Good feeling.
I hope I can get to see the grandkids maybe tomorrow, but I'm aware that they are starting back at school and DDIL may be frazzled.
Next week is busy with carpet layers, handyman, friends visiting and dinner party for my son and DDIL. I am still working on the menu.
I'm aware that I am not writing much at the moment and need to change that. I finally admitted my frustration to DH this morning and he seemed to understand. I still have decisions to make. Might talk to DDIL.
Lots of love to all the new people and my condolences to the lady who lost her family members so recently. Terrible blows.

I've started logging my food again. I went way over calories yesterday, managed to claw a few back from exercise, but I need to start eating smarter Well that's one way of putting it, but basically I need to stop being such a pig!!
Heather I tried your way of running (shuffling ) yesterday when taking the dog for a quick walk around the block. I must admit Leah did not pull so much if she thought I was going a bit faster. I didn't think/feel as if I was running, just a sort of bouncy walk. I did it for about 50 steps then walked a bit then shuffled again. I'm going to try doing it again when I take her out in about half an hour.
I watched the Greatest Showman yesterday and I quite enjoyed it, loved the songs. I do enjoy a good musical and like to sing (?) along
Been to see Dad this morning, he's a bit sleepy today, but he said he'd get up later. Left him reading his papers in bed.
Well I'd better take the clean washing upstairs to be put away, then get Leah walked - I wish she would do her business in the garden, but for some reason she won't 'go' there, it would be so much easier if she was like our other dogs and 'go' in the garden, but she would rather burst!
Hugs to all who need them

Happy Saturday. I’m on my own this week, DH and DD flew out to Arizona for a little trip. Me, I will clean up from Christmas, visit a neighbor, go to work and exercise of course, and attend my SIL’s mother’s funeral (she peacefully passed last night).
The time will fly without them. They have been going on a trip like this one for the past 5! Years and is a very positive part of their relationship—I love it, and not just because I get to control the thermostat and the remote!!!

Good Saturday Morning from not raining right now Ohio.
My proud moment this morning was that I got something healthy to eat instead of the chocolate chip cookies on the counter! They would have been faster, but the cottage cheese, pears, and granola did hit the spot.
Viv UK I LOVE musicals! And yes, I have seen a bunch and tend to sing along too! Good thing I am generally by myself when I watch. Great job on exercising to counter calories! I heard or read somewhere the other day that we should think of how long we have to work to pay for something. So like dinner out- Did I work an hour to pay for that....that type of thing. I think the same could be done with our thinking on food. If I eat this...how much more do I need to exercise? Just an idea. And yes, Logging is a must. I have to see it to be aware.
Machka As soon as you started describing your symptoms, I knew what happened. While it doesn't happen as often these days, it is scary to get that sugar level that low. I am no where near as active as you, but have challenges with too low of sugar levels. Sometimes it is different foods that will drop it. I know that artificial sweeteners drop mine super fast. Something in Wendy's burger buns does the same thing. I try to be aware of that. Once while plowing snow, I was sitting at the shop trying to total bills, when all of a sudden I couldn't see. Just lots of black circles. My MIL told me to eat, I told her I wasn't hungry, she told me to eat or she was shoving the pizza down my throat! Love that lady! Anyway, I was running on Mountain Dew and no sleep. About 15 mins after eating a small amount of pizza I was better. This has been years ago but I still try to recognize the feed me signals before it reaches that point. Man, I haven't had a soda in 9 years and haven't plowed in 4. Time going fast!
No updates yet on Aubrey this morning. Prayers continuing. I know she is on a long road so hugs and prayers is all I can do.
Positive self talk I think will be what I work on this week. Focusing on good choices. Too many negatives around. There needs to be more positive energy from myself.
Cari Great job on getting the bike out! What a great loss goal met as well!
Micheller That is scary! My husband just kept saying he felt strange. His family dr kept putting it off as anxiety for over 2 years. When he started dropping weight and I kept insisting it was something else, then the doctor sent him to the heart doctor. After wearing the halter monitor for a month it was as clear as a blue sky. DH has been on Multaq and Eliquis for two years now and it seems to be working. Yes, during the monitor wearing his heart was beating over 150 beats per minute for over 8 hours. No wonder he was eating everything under the sun and still losing. I hope the ablations and your new thought process help you.
I better get ready for work! Lots to do!
Have a Blessed Day! Learn something new. Make the best choices you can at the moment. And SMILE at a stranger. You just might be the only smile they see today!

I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia many years ago. Sometimes I'm OK and can go a while without food ... most times I need something fairly regularly.
I'm usually really careful when I cycle, but I think because I don't like running on a full stomach, and time had kind of gotten away from me (I intended to start running about 2 pm), I didn't think to eat anything just before. And I wasn't hungry on the run which should have been a signal too! On 10 km runs, I usually start to get hungry about 8 km. But this time, I even went past a couple restaurants which might set off the hungries, but nope. Not hungry at all.
I have to be MUCH more careful in the future.
Prayers for Aubrey!

Good morning all! Happy Saturday! Trentin will be arriving at 9 this morning and will be with me until 11:30pm. I asked his mom to leave his booster seat so that he can do the shopping with me. We'll see how that goes. lol We are also going to stop at the library. He has been there with me and likes to play games on the library computers while I get the books that I need.
Machka- So sorry to hear about your grandmother. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful person! And the longevity in your family! Wow! I am envious. I knew my grandparents, but I wasn't close with any of them. Two (maternal) were alcoholics; not mean or abusive, just inattentive and selfish. My other grandmother (paternal) was far away, so I didn't see her often, and she was somewhat undemonstrative with affection.
Pip- I am a pickle juice drinker. I have been since I was a child. Love that taste. Weird, but I have never had major leg cramp problems. The soap thing under the sheets mystifies me.
Kylia- Happy that baby Aubrey is doing better. I will continue to keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
Yvonne- Oh, how I have missed your daily "holiday" postings! lol Many of them I know about, due to the fact that I have to make daycare calendars and check a daily holiday website to do this. BUT many of the holidays don't make it onto my daycare calendar, so your posts remind me of those! So much fun!
Heather- Your sil sounds like a woman after my own heart! She found sparkly shoes! lol I don't own a pair, but just a month or two ago, one of my daycare girls showed up with sparkly loafer style shoes, and I decided I need to get myself a pair.
Keto and fasting- I am not sure if Keto is the way for me to go. I am currently on a higher protein, moderate carb, low fat plan. I lean a bit more towards a vegetarian lifestyle. As far as fasting goes, I fast from 7pm-7am. Some days even that is difficult now that many of my workdays are from 6:30am-11:30pm. So...if I need something after 7pm, I try to limit it to veggies.
Well, I better scoot! Almost time for Trentin to arrive and I need to get my shopping bags and list, etc. together. Love to all you ladies and all of the new members as well! Welcome! ttfn xoxoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
