Yes, he went a good 20 years before her. She was 20 years younger than him, but she always loved him and wore her wedding ring. I think they're together again.

Machka I loved the photos, especially the generation pictures. What a lovely grandmother you had. If I am interpreting what you said correctly, your grandfather also lived to be quite old?

Kylia - Great news. Prayers continue.
Heather - I’m sorry you couldn’t sleep worrying about food for your brother.

Machka sorry for your loss. I loved the photos.
It would have been my MIL 85th birthday today. My brother in law posted on Face Book a lovely photo and tribute to her:
"My Mother would have been 85 today she brought up 4 of us by herself, no benefits, just 3 jobs to pay the rent and feed us, She worked at Maynards on Hull Road till dinner time, then with IMRO North until tea time then at Tang Hall Club until near midnight, you don't realise how hard people used to work, most benefits have just made people lazy, she was a trooper RIP Mum."
Feeling a bit sad today and missing my hubby.

Machka - I am so glad you have posted those lovely photos of your grandparents. The way your grandmother is beaming in the photos of you together - there's quite a bit of her strength and sense of adventure and love in you! And the photos of your grandfather = Edward S. Curtis stuff right there!
These were your mother's parents?
Sorry to hear of her passing, and sorry you couldn't be with her. You are bringing back memories of my own beloved grandparents this morning.

Macha ~ You are blessed to have so many photographic memories of your grandparents. Your grandmother lived a long life in which I am sure she had a good effect on the lives of many others.
Janet ~ What beautiful eyes your granddaughter has. A beautiful young lady.
BnL ~ DH has made it clear I am to stay out of the situation. I think he does not want to acknowledge what may be going on. Anyhow, I will try to keep my mouth shut. Thanks for your thoughts on this! We have kind of looked after him when needed for over 25 yrs. We don't know the names of his doctors, lawyer, close relative (if there are any), etc. His wife (my dh's sister passed away when my 43 yr old son was one...she died after having a 5th miscarriage). He is a very, very private person. He would think we were intruding if we dropped in on him on a regular basis. So, I will do my best to let it be and just am happy can spout off to you if I need to.

Machka ... so sorry for your loss. Your grandmother lived life well! I believe there's a celebration of that life taking place on the other side of the cross ....
Wizzywig ... giving you a virtual hug ... may you only be reliving pleasant memories ...
NYKaren ... remember to exhale as well ...
Kylia ... Yay Aubrey!! Continuing prayers!
Lanette ... I am still working out how I want to use fasting. I've chosen 19/5 based on Bert Herring's recommendations. He doesn't believe that you need to count calories or restrict foods but, instead, give the body an opportunity to reset its natural appetite control. I'm not sure about that and worry about bingeing during the 5 hour window for eating. Right now I'm watching how many calories I actually eat during the 5 hours. So far, I've been within my MFP calorie allotment. Not by design ... just happened. I'll let you know how this thing goes.
Leg cramps ... I'm like Lisa and see an increase when I'm dehydrated (which was last night, thus leg cramps, minor ones). I've used the bar of soap at the foot of the bed (need to do that again). I usually can't get to the refrigerator for pickle juice or any other thing that isn't by my nightstand if a cramp occurs at night. My muscle cramps immobilize me.There have been times I couldn't even stand to try and "flatten" my foot as others have suggested. I literally cannot move if a major muscle is in spasm. Some of this is due to a poor vascular system. The thing that has been most helpful is a heating pad, but when I'm screaming and can't wait for it to come up to temperature, my husband takes a damp face towel, microwaves it, puts it in a plastic bag and I immediately place it on the offending area. This seems to open up my blood vessels and allow some relief. I'm pretty certain I traumatized my kids over the years with my painful whimpering and tears when in spasm ...
Busy day today and a dinner party this evening ... which will be within my window of eating.
Beth

Carol I have to say the emails from your brother-in-law remind me of the ruminating my brother does if he can't quite figure out why you are butting into his routine. Sometimes with my brother, it helps to clarify things by reiterating the original premise with something like this: "Gray, I think you should shop wherever you want to. I only mentioned the other store because they have good sales. You should shop at the store you like best." Then the paranoia settles down for us. I have no idea if that would help or hurt in your situation, though. It could backfire, depending on his mind state.

Hi all i'm still up and at it. I lost all my old stuff so started a new so I feel i'm alone in my own little world. No friends just me. So i've been pushing no one but me. Starting my 3rd day of being good. Lost a little over the holidays that's a big + have to love it. I'm almost in Onederland if i'm good I can be there at next weeks tops.
Beth I hear you on leg cramps i've seen me having them so bad that i'd pass out and if I thought of the why Was mostly because I didn't get enough water before bed. Have you tried banana's.
Grandmalie staying around 20 is mighty hard. or find it so. I did 49 carbs yesterday and that's great for me.
So on to a good good day.

to clarify. when i drink the pickle juice for leg cramps. at night, i don't get up run to the frig and drink it. i do it after a long run and i know i've worked my legs harder than usual, that's what the bar of soap is for. that and magnesium pills are preventative measure. i don't have a problem with being dehydrated cuz i drink at least 56 oz of water or more a day6

I recently read a quote regarding their weight loss challenge (can't remember who wrote it) and it said "Wake up each day with DETERMINATION and go to sleep with SATISFACTION". This will be my motto for 2019 and I'm hoping I can also receive lots of member's support to help me along this journey!
I started reading the message boards and getting into the social aspect of MFP in May. I personally found that this group and a couple others I participate in are so motivational! Love your motto.

Allie High fat nuts like Macadamia & Brazilnuts can be nibbled on very slowly...and may help with your hunger as long as you know how many calories you are consuming. If you like them, of course. 20g is really low...hard to maintain...but some people really thrive on keto.

Got some distressing family news early this morning and was sitting finishing my coffee and thinking about all the things I was going to eat. Stopped myself and came here to read instead. Whew! Caught myself just in time before I ruined my day. Thank you!!
Still having to periodically drain the driveway but I think the rainfall warning is finally done!!

machka - so sorry for your loss.
I can’t remember who was talking about their husband and trying to get him to be healthy. I have been trying this with my husband too. I am having very little success. He will be 54 next week and has not had a physical in over 20 years when he needed it for his job. He smokes and is overweight. I fear I will be a young widow.
Heather - my Mom was Type 2 diabetic for over 10 years ending up on insulin 4 times a day and still couldn’t keep it under control. When her Alzheimer’s started to get severe she started overeating terribly. My Brother removed all food from her house and started preparing all meals for her. (He lived beside her). He met with a dietician to learn what she should be eating and when the dietician mentioned something he knew Mom wouldn’t eat he asked for an alternative. Within 10 months he had her off insulin all together, no blood pressure meds and she only had to take one metformin a day. She had lost 60lbs with no exercise. Since she went into the nursing home last December she has gained a lot of weight back and has had to have her meds increased again. My brother is sorely disappointed. Your Brother can be successful if he puts in the effort!
I had more I wanted to comment on, but can’t remember now. Today would have been my Dad’s 77th Birthday. I miss him so much.
The Grands are coming for a sleepover and to spend the day today. Our daughter is struggling with depression and she mentioned before Christmas that she felt she had no “me time”. She either works or is home with the kids. We bought her a card for Christmas that said “Treat ‘Yo Self” in it we gave her gift cards to Starbucks and Chapters along with a note telling her to leave the kids with us. We also gave her and her husband a Cineplex card each for a date night. She thinks she may use that today as well. I hope she has a great day!

Today is World Braille Day!
"The 4th of January is World Braille Day, as it is the birthday of Louis Braille, the Frenchman who invented the code in 1821. Braille helps to provide equal opportunity for many blind people worldwide."
Cathy - Glad your lesson about the dishwashing liquid wasn't too expensive!
Katla - Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't watched any of the Outlander series yet. We don't have Starz but I might be able to find it on Netflix or Amazon. I really got into the first few books but for some reason I haven't been as interested lately.
Janet - The trees look so pretty with their coatings of ice. Like a glass forest.
Bonnie - My brother drinks pickle juice for leg cramps. You can buy it on its own but he makes us all save the juice when we empty a pickle jar!
Machka - Deepest condolences on the loss of your grandmother.
I have to drive to Austin today to get my haircut but it's pretty out so Luna and I will have a nice long walk when I get back. After that Philip and I have to finish the pad for the greenhouse - we'll see what is left after all the rain we've had lately! I am looking forward to having the citrus tucked away safely so we don't have to move them around, as they are really heavy.
Whatever you're doing, enjoy your day!

Cari - wanted to mention how much I enjoyed the story of Cliff Young! thank you so much for sharing that. I just got back from my walk - and actually did a few sessions of "shuffle" lol. Don't have running shoes per se, but at least I wasn't wearing my work boots.
Allie - I tried the really low carb (Atkins) and couldn't do it, but now with all of the Keto recipes and new research it sounds easier. I was re-reading Michael Mosley's "8 Week Blood Sugar Diet" this morning, and he mentions that we sit too much and even finding a way to stand 3 hours a day increases metabolism. Those of you working and on your feet are in good shape. I've mentioned before, when I had a "sit down" job before I retired, I really did move a lot more than I realized... up and down to files, copy machine, counter, mail room.
Carol - I guess if I were in your shoes, my concern would be - if your DH is unable to help care for BnL's ER transportation or take/accompany him to medical visits, then who will take that over if BnL calls him for help? And I think the hospital wants to have a "notify" or responsible contact party? It seems your DH has kind of assumed that role. Maybe it's already taken care of and that's why your DH says to not worry. My DH gives minimal information a LOT and most of the time I just have to trust him. Trust but verify, lol. That's what you are doing!
I think you said your word for this year is "Peace" - having to deal with emails and unclear expectations regarding BnL might be stressing it a little. I guess the Serenity prayer comes into play here.
All the pain and torture doing Physical Therapy for my frozen shoulder is paying off, I've advanced 15 to 20 degrees farther in range of motion on most planes in the past week. I found a T-Shirt that's applicable to PT and also some workouts I've done:
I'll be champion of my own race on this shoulder thing, gritting my teeth and making the air blue when necessary.
Later, ladies. Heading out for the rope & pulley masochism. Get out the earplugs. It already hurts like a sumb*tch

Hi, had a lovely day with my brother and DSIL.
We didn't go running because they got up really late, but that gave me time to knock off 300 calories on the rower before they appeared.
We caught the bus into Brighton and explored all the lanes of little, independent shops. Had a coffee. DSIL bought some glittery shoes!
Then we wandered a bit more (I nearly bought a vintage mirror) and I was beginning to despair about finding a low carb restaurant in that area. Everything but. Then one appeared. Perfect! My brother had cajun grilled chicken and a big salad.
Caught the bus home and they left in the car. A great visit.
DH was trying to put up a bracket for the tv in his room, but the screws wouldn't go in. I found a "handyman" for him on my phone who is coming on Monday. To relieve his frustration we went out for a very chilly walk by the sea. Beautiful sunset shining on the smooth water. So I'm calling the day 700 calories.
Machka - ditto all the comments. A good life and a long one. Photos lovely. I also loved the ones of your grandfather's exploits.
Viv - Sorry you are feeling sad. (((HUGS)))
DH's younger daughter texted him at lunchtime to say she wants to come down tomorrow and meet him for lunch and a stroll along the front. I will let them get on with it on their own. She has been feeling miserable since a new man dumped her, she can't sell her hated apartment and she is feeling insecure in her job. I've never envied her position, being single and leading a very "young" lifestyle at 46. It's like she's never left her early 20s,.DH does worry a lot about his 'children'. He does his best for them.

Whew-finally caught up!! I was so far behind in December that I just hopped on here.
My blood type is B+ which is pretty rare. I sometimes get contacted by the Red Cross because they need that particular type. However, I haven't been able to donate in years. The test they use for iron always comes back too low. But when I have by blood tested by my doctor, I'm well within the range!
In reading over everyone's words for 2019, I came up with Action for me. Maybe because I need to get into action and get my behind off the couch!! But I am also applying it to life in general. Sometimes I get too analytical and think about things too much without actually doing anything!
I gained 3 pounds over the holidays. Not great, but it could have been a lot worse! Really paying attention to my food these past few days-my GI system has not been happy and I need to really clean things up.
Speaking of GI issues, we spent a few hours at the Emergency vet clinic on January 1. Puppy was having a lot of issues in December that you do not want to hear the details about. He still wasn't doing great, so we went to the regular vets office today. Turns out he has Giardia-a parasite that is very easily treated. I wish someone had run the 10 minute test earlier!! I'm quite relieved to have an actual diagnosis!!!
Somewhere, maybe on here, I heard about From Fat to Finish Line, which is like C25K but just for a mile:) I'm signed up, but haven't started yet. It has been raining here FOREVER, which hampers my outdoor exercise.
I'm enjoying reading/catching up with all of you!!!

My grandmother passed away last night. She was 97 years old and lived a life full of love. She loved her Lord Jesus, her family, and many others she met. She was always very welcoming.
She served with her husband in several pastorates for over 40 years. She taught herself to play the piano and organ and led a choir. She also taught Sunday School for well over 40 years and in later years she held a Bible study for seniors.
She was a busy woman, an avid gardener, cook, and baker. She worked in a flower shop for many years in Alberta, and spent some time in summers for several years picking raspberries in lower mainland BC, often with me.
She was energetic and healthy ... walked a lot, gardened (as mentioned above), ate a reasonably healthy diet, didn't smoke, didn't drink alcohol. My grandfather enjoyed mountain climbing in the Canadian Rockies, and she joined him on some of the hikes ... those with paths.
This is her ...

Machka so sorry about your Grandmothers passing. Big hugs to you. But what a glorious life she led!
My grandmother lived next door to me, and early on was easily one of my best friends. I never understood my classmates at school when they would whine about having to go to their grandparents. I went on many car trips in my grandma's cute gold Dodge Dart. She would inch up the hills and zoom down them! She also would tell me stories with her teeth out. Such a character she was💖.

Rebecca - thank you for sharing those wonderful memories! What fun for a child to ride around in that Dodge Dart like that!
My paternal grandparents lived on the farm next door. A little bit of a hike across the fields or on the road, but I agree, Rebecca. Best friends! My grandma never drove but walked all over, sometimes a couple miles, to visit neighbors and take them goodies. She'd arrange for Grandpa to come pick her up. Some of my fondest memories are those neighborhood walks with her and the poor country folks we'd visit. There was no sin in being poor but living in an unclean/untidy home? Oh boy. Grandma scrubbed her kitchen floor every day and wore the pattern off! I'm not that driven, lol.
Like Machka's grandmother, no smoking or drinking, a sweet little church going lady who was by no means a pushover.

So one of my favorite breakfasts is vanilla Greek yogurt and a couple of walnuts mixed in. Last night I made a square pan of lasagna for husband and son. For me I used a mini loaf pan, and cut the lasagna noodles into small rectangles. I used 4 per section. The 4 were 1/3 of a whole long noodle. Each layer had a spoonful of sauce. I figured it was probably 1/4 cup per section. I put in two layers of a spoonful of cottage cheese. One of the layers had 5 baby spinach leaves. Its a fun meal to organize. I planned for 3 mini lasagna for me, and it was heaven!
This morning I weighed and I am 2 lbs down from New Years eve. So I know portion wise I am doing good. No restrictive eating, no denying myself, just good healthy stuff.

Elizabeth - I'm unable to give blood as well, but not because of iron levels. I happen to have lived in England in the years when BSE (mad cow disease) was an issue there, so blood banks in the U.S. won't take my blood! I'm an A+ blood type, second most common after O+. I only know because it was on my dog tags when I was in the military.
Almost done with my Friday - got my report out the door, and one more meeting, and done 'til Monday, when I will be driving to Little Rock.
Eating's good today, and the sun has come back out after 24 hours straight of rain. Leftovers for dinner, so zero effort on that note. All's right with my world.
Love y'all,
