We have an ice storm going on, later today its supposed to snow. My plan is to stay warm and cozy and do my workout inside.
Got all my Christmas decorations and trees down yesterday except the big tree in the Florida room, Jack will need to help me with that tree.
Love you my friends,

Went to bed at 8:30 pm last night, was tired tired! Had a slight headache, but I think its my body just acclimating ( to exercising and not snacking)! Slept well, and woke up at 7:10 am with the sound of my husband's shower. Its a war mentally, because my body says you have to pee, but my brain just tells me its white noise! My brain won, and I fell back to sleep until 8 am. I had programmed my coffee pot for 7 am so I had coffee waiting. I have to do that every night, its a nice thing.👍
Have a great day ladies!

Got home from work this morning and had to spend 30 min draining the driveway with the sump pump cause the water was up over the top of my gumboots. Just what I wanted to do after a crazy 12 hr shift. Last evening was so busy I was craving junk food and chocolate but refused to go searching for some cause it would blow my totals. Had some protein for breakfast and feel more in control. Get to sleep for a few hours then check the rain accumulations again!!

Rita: It sounds like you are doing a great job with your diet. WTG!!! I hope you are blessed with energy and a happy digestive system.
Party Person: 1 stone seems like a big loss in only one month. Good luck to you. :flowerforyou:
KJ: I ran with a friend for a time after my son was born and loved every minute of it. We lived in Eugene, OR at the time and there were loads of great running trails there. Running with someone is a delight, but I wouldn’t want to run alone unless I was very confident that I was in a safe place. Now I have a damaged knee, and running is not on my list of healthy exercises. Riding a bike is on my list and so is yoga. I love both of them.
CJ: I ride regularly, but I never post because of an old knee injury. I figure my backside is padded enough to absorb the pounding. I tried padded bike shorts for a while under my riding pants. It wasn’t effective for me and certainly wasn’t comfortable. I hope you heal well and are able to get back to riding soon.
Lanette: I’m on the list of those who’ve said goodbye to their gallbladders. It turned out that I only had one gallstone and it was the size of a robin’s egg. Keeping it as a souvenir wasn’t anything I wanted to do. :noway:
JanetR: Staying inside during an ice storm is the very best option. You are wise. I broke a wrist walking in snow because there was ice hidden underneath. I’ve also fallen on unseen black ice and broke a wrist then, too. I don’t recommend tangling with hidden ice. :noway:. Our Christmas decorations are down but we still need to put the boxes they’re stored in back up in the attic. :ohwell:
I’m hoping to get holiday boxes stored up in the attic today. DH can be at the bottom of the ladder and I will be at the top. We use a pulley system to get the boxes up the ladder and I shove them back into their spots. Our living Christmas trees are back in the yard and enjoying the misty weather.

January 2019 Resolutions
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours nightly.
6. Avoid alcohol.
Halt Stress:
Ask yourself four questions,
1. Am I hungry?
2. Am I angry?
3. Am I lonely?
4: Am I tired?
For any yes answer, you have a practical way to help yourself. If I am hungry, I eat. If I am angry I can find a way to address the problem that caused anger. If I’m lonely, I can chat with this wonderful group, or DH, or call a friend. If I’m tired I can rest or sleep. It doesn’t make life perfect, but it sure helps smooth out some bumps.

I had a quiet Christmas and New Years. I spent Christmas at my Mom’s. I brought my Mom home with me after Christmas for a visit. She had extended visits with her great grand kids and enjoyed them. My brother met me halfway yesterday to take my Mom home. It was not ideal weather for travel in DFW with rain and cold. The traffic was much lighter after leaving the metroplex.
My Mom turned 90 in October. It seems several of us have patents around the same age. My Mom didn’t want any presents for her birthday or Christmas. I take her on short 2 day trips and to my house which she does enjoy. She broke her neck a few years ago and wears a neck brace. She also had macular degeneration. Her vision is severely compromised. Lighthouse for the Blind in Tyler provided her with a portable reader for the visit here, which enabled her to read. She has a large monitor at home. She walks everyday as long as it is not pouring rain. I walked with her both at her house and here. I have a 2 week streak of walking every day, which I intend on extending. I have a treadmill for days with bad weather. I did my first strength training workout today.
I did take a break from eating keto through the holidays and have gained weight due to poor eating. On an overnight trip with my mom and a friend after Thanksgiving, we had cookies from the hotel and White Russians for dinner. I am back on track as of January 1.
I agree that the Diet Doctor website is a great resource for lchf or keto diet. Check out the recipes from Kristie Sullivan. I made her Broccoli Cheddar Bacon Ranch Chicken Soup and it was fabulous. My mom enjoyed it too.
Lanette mentioned a documentary series “The Real Skinny on Fat” that was on the internet last year. It was highly informative and is scheduled for replay beginning January 15. There are 9 episodes. It contains helpful information regarding all types of fasting including intermittent fasting. I am limiting my eating window to 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Fasting - I do my own version of fasting for about 15 hours, although I do have a coffee on days I’m working. I am an evening snacked and was raised that way so it’s a hard habit to break. I would rather save breakfast calories for the evening. When my doctors realized I was losing weight, she asked what I was doing. I told her about my fasting and she told me to stop. The history of diabetes in my family puts me at risk of developing it and apparently fasting does something to the liver resulting in glucose issues. I can’t remember exactly what she told me, but she did say I should be eating at least a carb and a protein at least after 8 hours. I have not changed this yet because I have not been able to break the evening snacks.
Running I have never been a runner, even as a child in gym class I would find a way out of it. As a 12 year old girl that developed way too early in the chest area it was painful both physically and emotionally due to the boys leering and commenting. I managed to skip three years of gym class due to ailments and injuries. This past summer though I added some minor running into my walks. I would force myself to run from one spot to a parked car or sign. It felt good when I did it!
Blood type I am A-, I found this out a few weeks before my wedding when I miscarried the baby I was carrying. I required Rogan? (Sp) shots to carry successfully as my husband is A+. Funnily enough my Sister in Law is also A- out of our combined 5 children we cannot give any of them blood as they are all A+.
Today is my granddaughter’s 3rd Birthday, we gave her a present and had a cake with candles last night as we won’t be seeing her today. We are keeping them tomorrow including overnight as we gave our daughter a “Treat Yo’ Self” day for Christmas. She is suffering from depression right now and had mentioned that she felt she never had alone time. So we have her gift cards to Chapters and Starbucks in a card with a note that included childcare. She is very excited about it and said she may also use the Cineplex gift card that was supposed to be a date night too. I suspect the kids will be here before noon tomorrow. I will be making mini pizzas for supper tomorrow night.
Now that the holidays are over I need to really get serious about finding employment, my EI has not started yet and I am fearful how behind we will get. Hopefully the holidays are what held up the EI and it will be approved before end of day tomorrow.

Happy 2019 to all. I had a very nice, long, quiet break and I feel very recovered right now. I think my little November meltdown kind of frightened me. I really felt close to losing control. But things are better now. My new year's resolution is simple: take care of me, what ever that means at the moment. I did a very poor job of self-care last year and I got the consequences! So let's see how it goes! Take care all, meg from beautiful, sunny Omaha7

Pip & Penny:
Cathy in Arlington: I watched The Real Skinny on Fat and would be happy to see it again. Thanks for letting us know that it will be on again starting January 15.
Meg: I’m glad to see you posting again. I think you have made an excellent New Year’s Resolution. Taking care of you is the highest priority, as it should be. WTG!!!
Our Christmas trees are out in the yard where they live, but Christmas decorations are all over the garage and we have a string of outdoor lights to take down. That will wait for a dry day. Today it is raining.

well the nap never happened, go a severe leg cramp.. but i went out and made sausage egg roll in a bowl and I have to say it was marvelous!!! I had my portion and have 3 more to freeze... will attempt the bacon cheeseburger casserole next... I honestly think this is something I can do long term.. I dont have the sugar crashes, I am not as moody.. and I was very pleased with myself at not getting anything with sugar... I will also make up greek yogurt bowls, and cottage cheese bowls with fruit and nuts with a little cinnamon .. I got this!!7 -
Went dancing and then for a walk before lunch. We took our outside lights down yesterday, and I plan to take down the indoor stuff tomorrow morning.
Fasting: I do a modified IF. Fasting from 8.30 pm to 10.30am at the moment. I try to do a workout first thing in the morning.

Well, I am in a quandary! I have mentioned my BnL who has lived by himself for the last 40 yrs. He is what I would call a hermit. For the last 9 mos. he would not come to any family functions or even meet us for dinner out. He did let us pick him up the week before Christmas and take him to a steak house near his home. During dinner, my husband asked him where he grocery shopped and mentioned he could get better deals at a different store. This was just to make conversation as we were all discussing the fact that most of the things he needs are really close by. Now he is emailing my husband, me, and my husband's brother and his wife wanting to know why we all keep asking him why he is shopping at this store. I have never in my life called him and I doubt if my husband's brother would think to ask him such a thing. This is the second email we have gotten about this since we took him out to dinner. What we are really worried about is the fact that we don't have any information about who to contact if anything happens to him. We have asked for this information and he just says it is all on his computer....which is probably pass word protected. It is my idea that he is probably showing signs of dementia and I don't have any idea how we can help him if it get worse (which if it is that, he will get worse). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, my husband has been the one who he always calls if he needs to go to the hospital or if there is any problem.

Cathy - do you have the link for the Real Skinny on Fat when it airs again? I highly recommend it. Also, I'm like you in that I try to keep my eating from 10 am to 6 pm, mainly because I go to bed early.
I'm a morning person - generally up by 4:30 am. By 7:30 or 8 at night I'm ready for bed with my little tablet and watch something on Prime or Netflix until I fall asleep. Currently, I am bingeing on "Silent Witness" - about a lady pathologist. You gals from the UK are likely familiar with it. I'm up to series #4. Looks like it's been running for years like Midsommer Murders.
Rita and Beth - are you counting calories during your eating windows? If so, what's your strategy? Rita, stopping eating several hours before bed helped heal my GERD as well, along with chewing "Between" gum for a few minutes (from Amazon) which stimulates saliva which coats the tummy or something! Didn't want to stay on with Nexium.
I think Mary has had great success eating during a tight window. Rye also did very well on it as I recall. And Wendy from NZ. Miss them!
I love reading about the different strategies for IF you all are sharing!!

Happy National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day!
I'm not a big fan unless they're homemade, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for chocolate covered cherries because my father bought a box for my mother every Christmas.
Nicole - Welcome! You'll find lots of support here!
enough64 - You have to watch out for those curve balls! It's all about having a plan for getting back on track after one of them hits you in the head.
Rebecca - That scale decoration is so cute! They used a wonderful old vintage scale, too. Nice to see cool-looking things from the past find a new life.
Katla - If you ever see me running, you should probably run too because there is something scary chasing me.
Cari - Luna sticks so close to me when I'm walking around the house that I often can't find her at first glance because she's literally right at my heel. Sometimes I put a handful of treats in my pocket and ask friendly strangers to give her one instead of petting her. Like Vader, she is extremely careful with her teeth when taking treats!
Party - Welcome back!
All of your blood type posts reminded me that it was time for me to make my next donation appointment, so the Central Texas Blood & Tissue Center thanks you! Everyone who donates between January 2nd and 15th will be entered into a drawing for dinner at Franklin Barbecue. You can hardly get into that place anymore so I'd be pretty stoked to win that. Made a long-overdue appointment for a haircut too... I've been going to a young woman here in town but I'm not really happy with the cut so this time I'm going back to my guy in Austin.
With our planned ski trip next year, I got on the crosscountry machine yesterday for the first time in awhile. I love it but it takes some time to get a good rhythm back so I only went 15 minutes. It's finally stopped raining so today will be a walk day with Luna, but I'm going to try to do at least a little time on the Nordic Track several times a week in hopes of getting that rhythm back into my muscles.

Just a quick note on a drive-by reading, on the intermittent fasting, it's not deliberate on my part, as I'm largely trying to stick to high protein, low-fat and as few carbs as possible, other than eating oat bran for breakfast. I notice, however, that I do much better overall if I wait to eat my oat bran at 11 a.m. or later. Which, since I seldom eat anything after 7 p.m. because we're in bed by 9, and I have a hard time digesting anything laying down, that I'm on about a 16-hour fast. Again, not deliberate, but they are my most successful days. I do find that the day AFTER I do that, I'm quite hungry in the morning. If I'm working, easy to ignore, but the days I don't work, I tend to struggle with my eating anyway.
Also, this doesn't cause issues with my gall bladder, as it was evicted a couple years after the gastric bypass. Pretty typical pattern for most GBS patients, and many surgeons now just take out the gall bladder when they do the GBS, as it almost invariably develops issues after if they don't.
Later, y'all,

A thought - if he has a special friend or pastor or neighbor, see if you can figure out who that is if something happens and he's not willing to divulge more right now - he might have shared information with them.
Rori mentioned this website: agingcare.com and I signed up for it. There's a lot of great sharing and information on not just dementia, but all kinds of things caregivers run into. You might sign up for it and post your question there.
You and your DH are sweet to have thought of him over Christmas and to be concerned for his welfare.

PS - another thought here. You might contact your local Area Agency on Aging and see if they can point you in a good direction.

hidee ho ladies~well the nap never happened, go a severe leg cramp..
@grandmallie, I get these so bad I cry!! I haven't had one in a while and think it's because I've cut out diet coke/coke zero and I'm drinking more water. I take magnesium and vitamin d because a nurse friend told me that should help. I always have diet tonic water with quinine around the house. I had one really bad about a month ago and could not even move with crying, it hurt so bad. Usually, with the tonic water, it is gone in just a few seconds.4 -
Here is the link for the web series: http://therealskinnyonfat.com/optin/
You do have to provide your email address to gain access.
The hosts of the series, Montel Williams and Naomi Whittel are scheduled to appear on the Dr. Oz show tomorrow. They will probably promote the series.
Those embarking on the keto diet should be aware that there are a ton of food products that are being labeled keto. These are highly processed foods where the manufacturer is adding fiber to reduce the net carb count. I adhere to clean keto which means I review the ingredients of any food to avoid added sugar. Sugar free processed foods have a ton of undesirable ingredients. Whole food is best.
I am not an early bird. I think the thing I enjoy most about retirement is never having to set an alarm. I am in bed between 10 and 10:30 and usually awake around 7:30 - 8:00. By the time I walk and shower it is close to 10.
I had someone into look at my dishwasher for the second time. I have Kitchenaid dishwasher drawers. I only use the top one. The problem has been that the both drawers go crazy, the light is red instead of green and the motor is running but no water runs. It is so loud, the first time it happened it woke me up in the middle of the night. My handyman looked at it just before Christmas and it worked for 1 1/2 weeks and then it happened again. I turned the circuit breaker off until it could be looked at. Today the handyman brought 2 men with more appliance experience. The problem was the electric control panel was getting wet and short circuiting. They couldn’t locate a leak, but I heard them comment about suds under the bottom drawer. When I started thinking back, the problem started when I ran out of dishwasher detergent and bought the Kirkland brand at Costco. Turns out I bought dishwashing liquid instead of dishwasher liquid. Total user error, I was so embarrassed. The good news is that once it dries out it will be fine and the handyman didn’t charge me for the return service call. I will still have to hand wash dishes until I go buy new detergent.

Penny & Pip: What are the chances that the two of you are actually sisters? Seems plausible. At the very least, you seem to be sisters of the heart.
Carol in GA: It sounds as though you have a serious worry regarding your DBIL. Good luck to you & your DH. Is he close enough to drop in on him a couple of times a week? Do you think he needs to be in an assisted living facility?
Clowe1028: Thanks for posting the link to the real skinny on fat. I watched this series before and would love to see it again.
Cathy in Arlington: We’re waiting for delivery of a new Whirlpool dishwasher. The first one arrived with a sharp crease in the door and was sent back without ever coming into our house. Hopefully the replacement will be here in the very near future. Our old dishwasher is barely limping along. :ohwell:
Are any of you watching the Outlander Series on Starz? I bought the books as they came out and have read them all, some of them more than once. I am so impressed with the TV production. They’ve done a stellar job so far.

Hi all,
We had a lovely day with my brother and DSIL. Absolutely LOADS of walking! That's on top of my morning exercises!
It turns out that he has just started a low carb diet and they are both dry for January. Luckily I had stocked up with low carb snacks and cheese, so managed to find him a late lunch and a snack for later. He is an insulin injecting type 2 diabetic with eye problems, so he is really trying to get a grip on his blood sugar.
We went out to the Italian fish place for dinner and he had plain grilled fish with veg. I had octopus and clams in an onion sauce. Yum!
I hope to go running with my DSIL tomorrow morning as the forecast is sunny. I will make him scrambled eggs for breakfast.
All good.
A cold night is expected tonight. Brrrrrr!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx5
