Yes, my son has gone a bit ghostly. I guess we have under feeding...

@rheddmobile Whoo hoo! I'd need more than fired up rocket boosters to get that fast!!! Fantastic!!
@MobyCarp Sounds like you had a great race today. Good luck with tomorrow!!!3 -
March goals: Run 100+ miles, stay healthy & keep up with marathon training plan
3/1-10 Totals: 73.7 km run, 5.6 km hiked, 1 hr yardwork
3/11 - 8km track workout (7x800@5kP w/200 recovery +1km cooldown) while initially being pelted by small hailstones falling from the sky. Overall a challenging but good workout. +weights/core
3/12 - 19.6 km run, very slow "recovery" long-run as this is supposed to be a cutback week.
3/13 - 6.1 km run, followed by foam rolling (feeling something in my quad again, guess I was right about being close to my limits & needing to be careful) & core workout
3/14 - no running, 3.5 km failed bike ride (kid had a meltdown)
3/15 - 13 km run through a downpour on the out, followed by bright sunshine and blue skies, then back into the storm on the way home. Quad feels totally fine so maybe my imagination.
3/16 - rest
I took a week off of social media, including this app. I'm not going to catch up on missed posts, but I'm back, and this was my week!

I had another terrible night of sleep so when my alarm went off at 5:45 (when I finally was sleeping) and I heard the wind and rain, I quickly silenced it. I rarely just skip a long run but I did not have it in me today. I went in to work and was super cranky about how cold it was outside, and my office was chilly so my feet were freezing all day. When I finally go the gym I sat in the sauna just to warm up before my treadmill run. I got plenty warm then. Funny how quickly I feel like I lost my ability to tolerate the cold after a couple of warmer days.
I forgot to start my Garmin until almost a mile in to the run so the mileage is a bit inexact, but let's call it good enough. I added on a few assisted pull-ups as well.
Great job @MobyCarp and good luck tomorrow.
Creepy photo @PastorVincent!4 -
Hmmm.. look a "race" i might be able to look forward to. I hate that it targets "couch potatos", but couch potatoes gotta start some where.
@Scott6255 I'm about 90 min from Keller. Anyone else interested in going? Food and beer. With a medical tent for "shots" haha!
Agh. Maybe I won't gain weight. I can train for a 0.5 k!
ETA dh is on board!
Anyone to lazy to do it and want the swag? (And support a good cause? Hero's for Hope supports St Jude's DFW and families/children with cancer).

Weather here was horrible - very strong winds and pouring rain. It’s a really busy weekend so few opportunities for a run so I decided to use the pay as you go gym at the uni where my son does an inclusive sport session on a Saturday morning. It meant I could get my workout done while he was doing his class, and still be close by if there was a problem. It’s not a big gym, but there were 3 treadmills so things should have been good, unfortunately only one of the three was working, and this was in use for the first 20 minutes! As I didn’t feel I could really hog it for an hour, I limited my run to just over 30mins, then did 20 mins on the strider, 15 on the bike and some kettlebell work. Not the mileage I’d planned but takes monthly total to 19.5

I'd be happy to donate for it but I'm having trouble finding information about that particular charity online and am kind of fussy about that kind of thing. Also I don't have a car.1 -

Haha! I think they are a reputable organization. I found this https://us.commitchange.com/texas/fort-worth/heroes-for-hope
ETA looks like they partner with different sponsors and raise for various charities. I found an older race that was to support a children’s advocacy group. Seems like they operate in a similar manner to United way.1 -

Today I got to run 3.64 miles around my home lake. It was sunny, mid 30s, not too windy, not too icy, basically as good as it gets in March. This makes two weeks in a row that I’ve been out to run three times (counting trips to and from the gym as single runs) and it feels like I can call myself a runner again. Thanks to the gentle correction of you fine folks, I’ve tried to call myself a runner ever since I stopped running in place at stop lights, but it doesn’t always feel natural. Today, it feels natural.
I registered for a couple more planned races today - a 10K in May and a 5K in June (my first trial race!). I also found out that the Twin Cities Marathon offers a “Loony Challenge” for running the 10 and 5Ks on Saturday followed by the 10 mile on Sunday, one of the ways to get a guaranteed entry in the 10 mile race. I did a 10+5K in December and it wasn’t bad at all (other than being a bit rushed changing in between), and I’m pretty confident that by October I’ll be up for that kind of volume.
I’m a little hesitant to commit quite this far in advance (though I’m already registered for the 10K) but it’s something I’ll be keeping in mind. How do you folks decide when to register for a race? There are so many things that can change over the course of a year - jobs, health, family, etc. Obviously nothing is absolute, but it still makes me a little nervous, especially looking at an entry fee over $200 in this case.

@Elise4270 0.5 mile 'race' just doesn't seem worth the trouble (even though it is for charity)1
-
@PastorVincent - Happy Birthday to Mrs Pastor Vincent! Hope she had a wonderful day!
@taxgirl1 - I actually plotted a route once that took us by a dog park with the thought of running there, letting Hobbes the Vizsla play and then run home. Unfortunately the rest of the route was pretty terrible and boring so we haven't done it again.
@rheddmobile - I have been seeing all kinds of lizards and skinks too. They run along our block wall and too me it is a sure sign of spring... that and the 80F!
@Elise4270 - If I were closer I would do that race and make DH do it with me! Sounds perfect for him, especially the VIP option! 🤣
@mobycarp - Love that Meb is a pacer! I had the opportunity to 'meet' him at the US HM Invitational a few years ago. He was on the sidelines cheering all of us on. Such a great inspirational guy!
Went out for my 'long' run today... Well the longest I have done in months. Temps were in the mid-70's, humidity was very low (15-18%) and the winds were blowing 15-20 MPH with gusts up to 35... I was trying to keep an even pace of 12mins on the run intervals. Looks like I was around 11:30 except when running into the wind then closer to 13 so it averages out right? We did stop each and every time we passed a drinking fountain if for nothing else than to wet my mouth and get Hobbes a little drink. Running into the wind felt like I was running and not going anywhere and more than a few times I had to fight to stay on the trail and upright. It was tough all around and my legs are really tired. Tomorrow is a rest day so I am updating now for that too.

Went on an adventure run with my running group today. Headed up The Pinnacles in the Coramandel, about two hours south of Auckland. When I say up, I mean up. Pretty much 8km up steadily, the last kilometre almost vertical - ladders and everything. The view from the top is amazing, or so we are told. We were completely in cloud and couldn’t see a thing. After all that up, then it was down, down, down. That was worse. Fab day out but tomorrow could be interesting, especially at Pilates!!

Long run this morning (well it extended into the afternoon, but you get the gist). Energy levels were pretty low for the second half, probably due to being hungry. I did have a gel on me, which picked me up for a while, and then it was back to the slump. I think it's because I've been drinking too much coffee recently. My body just doesn't feel awake without a big dose of caffeine.
It was the first time this spring it's been warm enough for a t-shirt instead of a long-sleeved tech shirt. Also found a hole in my "every single run, race and trail under 20 degrees, plus badminton, basketball and sometimes cycling" tights. They are Skins A400s that I first bought in 2014. Mentioned this to girlfriend, who examined it and commented that it's a small hole and I'll probably get three more years out of it at this rate.ContraryMaryMary wrote: »Went on an adventure run with my running group today. That last part looks terrifying. I'm awful at going downhill, which is why I keep passing people in the uphill during races and then they fly past me not long later.
There is this 100km trail race near the N.Korean border called Ultra Trail Changbaishan that is almost all uphill. It starts in a valley and ends up at about 2000m elevation, at the shore of a crater lake at the top of a mountain. If I were to run a 100km race one day, that would probably be my go to race.4 -

This is exactly what I was going to say. I want to do that adventure!
Today is starting out as kind of a repeat of yesterday - didn't sleep well, it's cold (but this time it snowed overnight), I'm not going to run out there.0 -
SOCKS!
I know this is a fairly personal recommendation thing but... for the winter I like Darn Tough socks but I need new non-winter socks. Was tempted to just grab another bag of "Nike Unisex Dri-Fit Crew" but with the price going up to $30 for 6 I thought I would ask around... any other suggestions? I do not like no show, or whatever. I like to have some sock above the shoe to prevent rubbing and what not.0 -
@ContraryMaryMary That looks like an amazing place to run walk. If I did it, there wouldn't be a whole lot of running going on. It's beautiful though. Wish you had been able to take in the view at the top.2

Well not all of us are elite athletes (anymore)... 😉 *Whispers* it a party with a walk option. not really a race. But don't tell my inner Kara.5 -

Thank you @PastorVincent and @shanaber! (Only just seen your posts while playing catch up!).
@ContraryMaryMary That looks awesome! Shame about the clouds though, I can only imagine what the view would have been like.
04Mar - 1.8 miles (treadmill)
07Mar - 1.6 miles (treadmill)
08Mar - 2 miles (treadmill)
11Mar - 2 miles (treadmill)
15Mar - 8.85 miles (outside)
17Mar - 5 miles (outside)
Total so far: 21.25 miles of 40.
Thankfully nowhere near as windy as Friday! Did look like it was going to rain as soon as I headed out but it stayed dry and it brightened up so ended up doing 5 miles instead of 3. Hoping I can get at least my usual 6 miles in at the gym next week as I won't be able to run next weekend (but I'll be at a spa for my best friends hen do so could be worse!).3 -
I'm resting to prevent (further?) injury to my left calf/achilles, so I didn't run on Friday as planned. That was a full rest day.
Yesterday I walked one dog in my old Merrell trail glove shoes for just under 2 miles. That was dumb. My arches are grumpy now. Later I walked the other dog for over 2 miles in my usual shoes. The weather was sunny and warmer... and he found every mud puddle on the dirt road. That was a great walk, even got my heart-rate up pretty well.
This morning I took both dogs out for a walk, and ended up doing a little running. I'm counting just over 2 miles as running distance, giving me almost half my planned distance for the week. Now that I've showered and dressed, I'm contemplating changing into my running clothes and running 2 more miles. But I'm resting to prevent injury so I won't.9 -
8 paved miles with Kody yesterday while the kids napped between our adventures.
I have a 4 hour trail run on my schedule today, but I have to wait until the kids leave at noon. I should be working today, but I'm not sure if I will. The kids kept us up until 2am these last two nights and I'm wiped out. It will be a struggle just to get out running.6 -
@ContraryMaryMary - Wow! What a fantastic place to hike!! It is too bad about the clouds but I bet they kept you cool too!
@noblsheep - I have a pair of capris like that. They are Patagonia and my daughter got them for me when she worked at REI. I mostly wear them to the gym now but they are my favorites and so comfortable.
@PastorVincent - they are way more expensive than your 6/$30 but these are my favorite socks. They come up just high enough to prevent any rubbing from my shoes. Also you can find them for about half price on Active Gearup or even sometimes at REI.
@elise4270 - I showed the 'race' to DH thinking he would find it hilarious (like his 0.0 magnet on his car) but apparently I hurt his feelings ☹️ I still think it is so fun and a great way to raise money! I just wish they would mail the goodies - I would totally do the Procrastination Entry!
@zeesparrow - rest is good especially if you are avoiding (further) injury. Do not be like most runners and say 'sure I can run, it really doesn't hurt that bad!'.2
