The first running socks I bought a couple of years ago were WrightSocks I found on sale at REI, and after trying a bunch of different brands (including some recommended by you I think) they are still my go-tos, especially if I might be getting my feet wet. I sunk my foot ankle-deep in ice melt at the beginning of my run yesterday and completely forgot about it until getting home. And they do have crew and quarter options. ETA: I have several different styles of the wrightsocks and like them all, but the best are the double-layer ones.1 -

When I got shoes on Friday, we also stopped at the Hanes Outlet store. They had Hanes crew-length socks, 13 pair per bag, for less than $20.00 a bag. They're 85 percent polyester, 14 percent cotton, and 1 percent rubber. I ran in them yesterday and today, and had no issues whatsoever.
I know you put in a lot more miles than I do, so they might not suit you as well as they suit me.1 -

Rubber? Add a little bounce to your step? I like the Hanes products. I have some men’s shirts that work as well as any tech shirt. The natural rubber would be a cautious choice for one like me who’s allergic to it. Great score on those socks!0 -

Restarted c210k today cuz I’ve been sucking at running lately so I figured some intervals would help. They did! Still getting some niggles in my knee though

Saturday 10km Manzer Avenue Hill Climb. We have had to adjust our route to a differant portion at the top of the hill as at 4.2km the rural residence has a new dog, he's a beautiful super friendly Golden Retriever/Lab cross - just a big puppy. Unfortunately as soon as he see's us he charges out and joins in for the run and we can't get him to go back home. Were afraid he will get hit by vehicles. We have all walked him back to his front door and did the sit/stay routine and just as you get off the property he charges back out to join his new running friends. He has a old Lab as a companion at the house who is " not friendly " - lots of bark but ultimately turns and runs for the safety of the Dog House. We don't dare leash him at the front door of the house/dog house since his food/water is inside the barn beside the Horse Corral. The owner is actually quite good about her dogs and horses but sometimes without warning ends up overnight out of town for work so can't really keep them on a short leash in the yard. Once he matures a little more this should pass.
Sunday 5km West Brook shorty - just a mini club run. We lost a lot of members due to the beautiful Jan/Feb temperatures and they are slowly starting to come back out of hiding/hibernation.

@amirahdaboss - It makes me sad and horrified that such a terrible thing could happen (again) in a place of worship and during prayers. I don't think anyone should ever have to be afraid to go into their chosen place of worship... such craziness in the world!

To @ContraryMaryMary , @Avidkeo , other New Zealanders and anyone in the Muslim communities all across the world. This was the actions of one person and does not reflect on the true nature of New Zealand, Australia or other countries in the world.....
I spent 4.5 months visiting/backpacking in New Zealand back in 1988/1989 so my memories are of a very differant time socially, politically.
The Pinnacles in the Coramandel look amazing. Just a great day with friends no matter what the visibility was.
Mad Respect to the Trail Maintenance crew, even if the supplies were dropped in by Helicopter it's still a lot of heavy work placing and leveling steps/stairs etc.

@Elise4270 My daughter works at a brewery and they had a "0.5k marathon". Fun twist, you had to run with a full beer cup and you could not spill (or drink) it until the end or you were disqualified. LOL8 -

We had a 0.05K dash here a few years ago from a brewery to the distillery next door.

Further to a few comments some of you have made - of the whole 15-16km we would have run maybe about three or four. Too steep, too uneven, too slippery (even though it was dry) to go much faster than a brisk hike. Much of the route is 'paved', and I put that in quotation marks deliberately. Over the years someone has picked up the rocks and made a path - it's a bit like a Roman road, but incredibly uneven with some pretty irregular steps. Amazing effort by those who have done it. Most of it would have been done with brute strength too, as the first 5-6k are in dense bush. The final ladders and materials to build stairs would have been helicoptered in though. There's a big hut a couple of kilometres from the top - sleeps 80 - that obviously had to have the building materials flown in (helipad there too for emergency evacuations and I imagine there's a few broken bones on this route every year). Apparently watching the sunrise is amazing and a lot of people trek to the hut, sleep the night, then climb the actual pinnacle to see the dawn.
Total elevation was about 800m, with the last 200m climb in the final kilometre to the peak. It took about two hours to get to the top, and about 1.5h to get back down.
And as disappointing as it was to miss the view, the cloud cover did keep the temperature at a very pleasant level. On the one or two moments when the sun did come out it was blistering!7 -

Made it out today, even though all of my muscles are hurting from the gym yesterday (first time back at CrossFit in six weeks) and a shoulder massage.
Caught the train to a nearby town, then ran along the river back home again. It’s a shorter version of a 17mile run I did when I was training for a marathon last year. This time it was an awful lot muddier!!! I was testing out some new shoes too - really they’re hiking shoes to wear for my forthcoming long distance hike, but I reasoned I could test them out with a run
After I got home, I had to soak in the bath for an hour just to loosen my muscles up enough for some housework. I’m hoping as I ease back into exercise again the extreme fatigue following will also subside!5 -

A very boring treadmill run - I forgot my phone so had nothing to listen to but the gym music, which was actually not loud enough to hear. I alternated between people watching (and it was not very busy so not much to watch) and trying to follow tennis on TV. I had planned to go a little longer but was happy to hit stop at 3 miles.
I added a few assisted pull-ups and some dips then called it a day. I stopped for Thai chicken and rice noodle bowl and some beet lemonade at my favorite place near there.

I am fine, some bumps and bruises. The vehicle as you can see is not. The worst part of this is not the accident itself, but the fact that I only had 4 more months to go to pay it off.😖17 -

@workaholic_nurse! Oh my! Based on the car pics, you are EXTREMELY lucky to have walked away with those minor injuries! So sorry for your almost paid off car too! Just try to take it easy and heal. Hopefully insurance will be of some help (for you and your car). Guessing the cattle didn't fair too well either0

When I was maybe 8-10 years old my dad came home with the front of the car all smushed (though still drivable) and told us he'd hit a deer. My sister and I were very worried about "Bambi" but dad assured us that the deer shook it off and ran away. It wasn't until many, many years later that I remembered the story and in a flash realized that my dad had lied to us. That said, black cattle are pretty tough...1 -
Sadly none of the cattle survived. But yes I am extremely grateful to be walking away from the accident.8

Nominal March mileage goal: 200 miles
Real Goals: Train well toward Boston. Cut back before St. Patrick’s Day weekend, run the 8K hard, use the half as a training race. Remain uninjured, even if it means cutting back on planned mileage.
Today's notes – Ran from the hotel to the start line. 40º F with 14 mph wind, and my jacket was going to be too warm for the race. Took the sleeves off and stowed them in the rear pocket to run the race. This is the first time I actually removed the sleeves and used the jacket as a running vest; it worked well.
N wind 15 mph for the early part of the race didn't matter; I was hanging with the 1:35 pace group, and with Meb pacing it made a substantial peloton. Started managing my own paced a bit past mile 8 because the official pacers weren't totally even; but they stayed near me. Wind shifted to be easterly off the ocean by the time we turned that way; Meb chuckled when I said I'd have to tell folks I had Meb to break the wind for me.
A bit past mile 12, Meb slowed down so a girl could do a selfie with him. I went ahead at an even 7:15 the, and about 12.3 miles on my watch I gave up pacing and just ran the rest of the race at about 6:25 per mile.
Went through the finish chute, collected bling: The half marathon medal, the Dolphin Challenge medal, a blanket (still in the bag to pack in my suitcase), a running hat, a second orange Shamrock string bag. That makes 4 medals for 2 races:
Drove halfway home, just saw my official time a few minutes ago. Finished in 1:34:21, 2nd of 110 in the age group. Say what? Weren't more guys actually running this as a race? Age group winner ran 1:32:09; I could have beat that if I'd run it as a race. But it was smarter to run it as a training race, 4 weeks out from Boston. Goal #1 is to remain uninjured. That goal is still alive. Goal #2 is to run Boston well; I'm feeling pretty good about my conditioning, 4 weeks out.

W7D3 completed. Today was an absolutely perfect run. The weather was great, 40's and sunny, and the run was so smooth. I tested out my race day song list and so far so good. The dog was focussed and ran exactly at my pace for the whole 25 minutes. I probably won't get all the remaining 3 runs in for week 8 of C25K before my 5k next Sunday but I'm not worried about it.
