Dana ~ Have a wonderful birthday!
Kelly ~ Very nice tribute to Doreen.
Janet ~ Love those two little girls!
Barbara ~ Scooter looks so cute in the photo. Hope the vet can cure what ails him. My Pom is 9 going on 10 and still just as frisky as can be. Took him to the vet yesterday as he has chronic skin problems (losing fur and irritated bald spots). They put him on antibiotics again and prednisone in addition to the thyroid med he takes daily. I think they are going to put him on a new allergy med as what he was on isn't working.
Welcome to all new chatters!

Kelly, The writing about your MIL is fabulous. Print it in a larger than usual font so it's easy to see and practice reading aloud (as others have suggested) several times so it will feel natural to read.

Nice one KJ. I ditto what Lisa said.
Kids came round this morning .
Great fun was had by all!
My son did half his run, but Achilles playing up. Then used our elliptical for an hour.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -
For those effected it is daylight savings time. Spring ahead!
Kelly Love your essay. The heart of it is (((LOVE)))!
Friend has a meeting on student who attacked her on Monday or Tuesday. There will be many adults at the meeting including the child's mother. She already knows many things will be said to distract from how great the needs of the child. It will be difficult to stay silent when she must. She is a strong women so I know she will know when to speak and when to remain silent.
Her job in the meeting is to keep the focus on how to best help her student and to keep to the fact she no longer feels safe for herself and her students around this student.
I am sending prayers to the student involved and to his mother too. My prayers is the mother and child are open to the help that is out there and changes are made so the student starts going on the right track.
Sometimes it takes a village.
Missed church again. Roads covered in 3 inches of heavy wet snow. On the list today of trying to clear our storm drains at the end of the block. We are to receive rain Tuesday and Wednesday. The threat of flooded roads is high. At least I will get plenty of exercise. I will take it slow. Shoveling this snow is like shoveling cement.

Hi Gals,
Kelly your tribute is amazing – I was in tears
Well it was a writing morning – Kelly, Heather, Lisa, and this….
Ok I am completely on a tangent! I know some of you love DST and some of us (Barbie and I) get the joy of early walking and seeing the sun rise, then having it taken away with the time change.. I did some minor research and this is my take on the time change.
Daylight Savings Time – So twice a year I think about this and think what a ridiculous name, the “daylight” is controlled not by the calendar, clock, or government but by the turning of the earth in relation to the sun. It’s science. And there is no “savings” we are not storing up daylight for later (December any one?).
So all DST really is marketing (dare I say propaganda) to get folks to change their clocks and to mess with their body’s natural rhythm because some number cruncher was convinced that we could save a bit of money on lighting. DST started in 1908 in Canada , 1916 in Germany and England, 1918 in USA, 1968-71 in Australia (they did it one area at a time). Only 70 (out of 195) countries participate in DST.
In the 1970’s studies were done on the energy savings in the world of today, there is no savings at all; business and homes often turn lights on even in the “daylight” as windows are not near work areas, and with the proliferation of air conditioning used in the summer time, lighting is not the main consideration of energy use any longer.
The suspicious part of my nature says someone/some group is profiting from this crazy habit of moving clocks around. A bit of Googling says sure enough with more hours of light after the traditional work day of 8-5 is over, Americans go shopping and our spending climbs. The biggest lobby to continue the clock moving to keep the most daylight after traditional work hours is the Big Box Stores and Retail Chain Stores. We drive to those stores so we spend more gas (another big lobby), for the week after the time changes (so 2 weeks a year) vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to pedestrian accidents increase up to about 6%.
So call it what ever you want but setting the clocks and not moving the time a couple of times a year would not cost us anything in energy costs, lower the accident rate, and make us in charge of our buying patterns, not a lobby.
I’m in for not changing my clock. And guess what if we didn’t change our clocks we would probably not call it anything but time.
Smiles

Beth: THANK YOU! I’ve read most of the information you posted about the DNA testing and have bookmarked the site so that I can go back and finish. :flowerforyou:
Rebecca: It is good to hear that you & your DG are taking care of your health. I’m betting your son did very well on his 1st class petty officer test.
Kim: I hope that you enjoy your mom’s birthday dinner. I’ve eaten at an Outback in Colorado when DD lived there. The food was of excellent quality and enormous portions.
Evie: Thanks for your good wishes regarding DH’s next doctors’ report. This will be a gastroenterologist.
Janetr: Have I already mentioned that I think your DGGD resembles you? What a pretty little girl!
Machka: I join you in wishing for year around daylight time. We just sprang ahead this morning.
KJ: I love your comments about your MIL and quotations from The Velveteen Rabbit.
Kim: I love your comments on Daylight time. “star:
Changing all the clocks is an aggravation. Our clocks have been reset, except for the clock radio in the bedroom. I can’t seem to get it to change in the correct direction. DH will have to do it.

Kelly,
That was beautiful! I do also believe I have "come into myself", knowing what makes me happy. I appreciate people, especially my eldest sister. Being that she is 7 years older than me, I think she "Mommied" me without even realizing it. But as years have gone by, our relationship is even. We are both old, worn, with happy eyes, and Real like you say. That's why its so frustrating to see our middle sister so introverted. No interaction, no empathy, for me that would be a terrible existence! And there lies the issue, its my feelings, and imprinting those on her life isn't fair. I tell her every so often, when I just miss her, miss bouncing life off her, I tell her I'm mad, mad, mad! She has time to like click every blinking thing on my Facebook page, but not say hi???? Oye!😁
Watching "Pioneer Woman", just absorbing info.👍
My deer just walked by the window. I swear she peeks in! Deer are strange, how they can eat grass, and poop at the same time. Utterly oblivious, just munching. The life of a deer.. Dangerously self reliant on specific neighborhoods, and most likely get fed at my homes. Our Bruiser elk named Walter was on the news last week. He is the lone make that swam to our island many years ago. He has had many items stuck on his antlers. Most recent was a bound up blue tarp. Many worried people, and zillions of threads on it all, he was spotted tarpless, so Walter our bachelor, got it done.
Have a great Sunday all!

Kelly, the words that you wrote for your MIL are a beautiful tribute. You may feel the need to tweak it a bit, I think it's great just the way it is.
Rebecca, handsome bunch of men in your life!
Janet, those two little girls are just so huggable!
Barbara, thanks for the info on how to do a spoiler, just hope I can remember it! lol
Rebecca, I think I've seen videos of Walter! Sorry that your sister is so uncommunicative, makes it difficult, I'm sure.
Kim, thanks for the DST info, I was a bit familiar with some of it, but you are so right in that it's not necessary any more.
I did manage to get to bed a bit earlier last night, so the time change didn't affect me too much. I am at work, so sleeping in is not an option, will be tomorrow tho! lol Still not managing the logging, but I am trying to pay more attention to what is going into my mouth and actually took some stuff out of the freezer this morning for the next few days so that will help everything immensely.
Must go, hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating, and welcome to the newbies!

Got behind this week. Too much going on here. Those of you on my FB page know what's been happening. I'm the kind of person that will get involved and help wherever. So got over 10,000 at least 4 times this week and kept to my calories and carb limit of under 35 grams. Happy about that!
Love and prayers to all that need them.Hugs too! Gotta go finish laundry.

Quick question - Heather?? Others?? I am, like Evelyn, trying to do some menu planning and was looking at the Hairy Bikers cookbook a number of things sound good, but there's a lot of lamb dishes I'm not a great lamb fan, and it is quite pricey what could I substitute for the lamb? Chicken? Pork? Tofu???
I'm quite bored with my usual items... so wanted to step out a bit.1 -
Morning everyone. Darn DLS time has messed up my routine so I am behind but am getting stuff done. Laundry and then off to the gym. I have had fun reading everyone's posts. Barbara, have you tried curabenz shampoo on your dog? My schnauzer mix had terrible allergic skin problems and this stuff cleared it up when nothing the vet had did, they sell it on amazon.

Megamom: I'm not Barbara but will try that shampoo. My poor Pom has suffered with allergic skin for years and we have spent several thousand dollars trying to help him. Hope this works.
Carol in GA4 -
This was the Pom when he was healthy. Now there is none of that beautiful red hair. It's just the undercoat.6 -
Kim - Lamb isn't particularly expensive over here and it does have a very distinctive flavour. It's my DH's favourite meat. I wouldn't substitute, but choose a different recipe altogether.
Very tired this evening , but stayed awake, just about, for Midsomer Murders. DH fell asleep. We were up very early to get our exercises done before the kids arrived.
I am reading the proof version of DH's next novel in his Winfreth series. I asked him if he wanted me to critique it, either generally, or minutely, but he said "Neither. Just read it." So that's what I'll do.

Lisa Brava for rowing. How did your new knee like it?
Barbara, my new knee LOVES the rowing machine. The rest of my body, on the other hand, believes my cheese has slipped off my cracker. My legs are doing fine, as they've been engaged in physical therapy for nearly five straight weeks. My back, sides, ribs, upper and lower arms are all kinda yelling at me, but it's the good kind of soreness, if you know what I mean.
Today, I inched up from 300 to 400 strokes, from 8 minutes to 11 minutes, and my calorie burn is absolutely pitiful--but I'll get there. Trying to add at least 50 strokes each day, and a hundred if I can handle it. The last hurdle (hopefully) to get through now is just the internal swelling - not sure how to explain that - it's not painful, just sort of a mechanical pressure--as if there's not quite enough room for both the new knee and the muscles and flesh around it. Weird and annoying, but not debilitating. Putting ice on it regularly still.
I'm also up over 4,000 steps a day now, trying to add more of those in as and when I can. After Wednesday, we're supposed to get a couple weeks of 50/60 degree temps and sun, going to see if I can Corey out to walk around the nearby park with me.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -
Kelly, beautiful tribute.
DST hate it in the beginning. Love it eventually. I do wish we would pick a time and stay there. I don’t care which one. Just pick one.
Michele, I’m with Vince. Leave me alone while I work on the taxes. I’m so glad ours are done.
I’m so ready for spring. I’m also ready for a couple of volunteer projects to be over. I hate living my life waiting for parts to be over. I feel like I’m wishing it away.

Easing into it is the way to go!
I'm wondering how my back and hip will react to my new rowing machine when it arrives. I'll likely have to ease into it as well.

Megamom, what was it that you got on Amazon for your pup for skin allergies?
My friend Trudy came down for dinner..I made us a nice grass fed steak with sauted mushrooms and roasted asparagus ,and mashed cauliflower with sour cream and chive.. it was delish..I dont usually cook big like that but she has had me so many times, nice to reciprocate..3 -
DST..... my body never went off it last fall, lol. I pity these guys:
Kelly - beautiful tribute. When my folks died, my SIL did the "service" for both of them at the funeral home. Her dad was a minister. She gave a kind of humorous tribute and shared anecdotes about becoming a member of our family. It was great and yours will be too. I think you'll do fine with your D & C. I was surprised at how quickly I rebounded - had much the same problems as you are having now. Sending (((HUGS)))). I too couldn't see your hair- bet it's super cute!
Rebecca - love seeing the photos of the guys. The older generation was neat, made me want to dig out photos of the great grandfathers.... not sure which box they are in, lol. Some day! Glad you have found a group that understands your LS and hope the treatment works well.
Lisa - your rowing machine is inspiring!!
Yvonne - did I read it right that you were ripping out a bathtub????
Loving all the dog photos. Hope those of you whose pups have skin conditions are able to get them cleared up. About a year ago I switched ours to Royal Canin for Mini Schnauzers, off the trendy turkey & sweet potato stuff. Both dogs seem to be doing well on it, and our older one used to have minor skin irritation and I haven't seen that come back, BUT it's not really flea season here in our neighborhood yet so too early to tell. Old Sophie had her teeth cleaned and one removed last summer - so far the tartar isn't rebuilding so I'm hoping the Royal Canin plus the carrots and veggies she eats is helping to scrub them. She won't let me brush her teeth.
My friend Lee, the marathoner, had an Australian Shepherd mix that was her best friend and ran with her all the time. A couple nights ago he just seemed kind of down, the next day he wouldn't eat and the gal who runs his doggy day care noticed his gums were pale. Lee rushed him to he emergency vet - he had some type of mass and internal bleeding. Vet said he could have had surgery which would have given him maybe a month, no guarantees, so she had him put down. She is heartbroken and we both had a good cry. He would have been 11 today.
I am changing the way I'm looking at evening snacks - which easily turn into cookie and/or ice cream and/or chip binges. I'm not necessarily eliminating those types of treats, but I'm adding a food high in protein or healthy fat or fiber to them to make them more balanced. An ounce of chips = add a string cheese. 1/3 c ice cream = add 1/2 oz walnuts. I want to make sure that the calories for the snack divided by ten are equal to or less than the grams of fat, protein, and fiber added together.
So far it's working well.
Have a great week, ladies. Hugs to those who need them!

Kim, Thank you for the research on DST. It makes perfect sense.
I'd love to see us on the same time year round. I'm used to walking in the dark so it doesn't much matter to me. I just hate the government imposed jet lag twice a year.
Barbie3 -
Lanette, so sorry to hear about your friends dog. Our fur babies really are a part of the family.
Lisa, I too have a few body parts that think I've lost my mind! After not doing anything for the better part of three weeks, I was a little too enthusiastic about some exercises, but it did hurt so good! lol
Allie, your dinner sounds amazing!
Machka, I think it's still your birthday week, so happy birthday!
Sorry, can't remember who was asking about substituting lamb, I'm not a lamb fan, and it is pricey here also, but I would try chicken, pork or even beef, tofu might be too mild tasting to be suitable. Worst case scenario, you chalk it up to lesson learned. I know I've had a few recipes that I'll never make again!! lol
Also can't remember who it is who has the friend who was attacked by a kindergartner, all I can say is OH MY!! I sincerely hope that help can be found for him and his mom. Also hope that a suitable learning environment can be found for him where there won't be a danger to other students and teachers.
Love the photo of the Stonehenge time change! I too wish we could just pick one and be done with it.
Not much to say this time as I think I'm actually all caught up with all of you! Although I do think I missed a page a while back as someone made a comment about something that I don't remember reading about, but oh well, I'll figure it out.....
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Ate way too much sugar during my open window for eating ... which changed time due to DST ... phlbbt! Tomorrow is another day.3

Hi all. We had sunshine here today! Cold and huge winds.....but sunshine! Every thing is a mess here with snow melting but it has to happen.
Kim - totally agree - Daylight Savings Time a huge pain. My BIL lives in Indiana and that state does not participate. There are others, can’t think now who....
Busy week this week, sitting here trying to schedule workouts so I don’t miss any days!
Every one have a great Monday tomorrow! Holly in Missouri1 -
Lisa and Machka: Thrilled for you both getting rowing machines. I love having access to the one in our condo gym. Here is the youtube workout I've been doing since getting back to it post hand surgery, and in fact, this is the exact same model I use: https://youtube.com/watch?v=THuWp4-pbYs
Kelly: Your draft tribute is beautiful. Your heart is so big and giving. Hope family is doing okay during this challenging time.
Holly: Hawaii doesn't change clocks for DST. We lived there for 17 years, which was great, but had to keep reminding ourselves of the time difference between the islands and the mainland.
I have free Netflix this month and have started binge watching Grace and Frankie. My new favorite show!!! Any other recommendations for 'shouldn't miss' shows?
Tomorrow morning I have Reuben my handyman coming over to get us started on painting the living room. I'll do some of the work, but leave the brush work to him because my paint jobs always look so amateur. Will hit resale sites for nature art photography at a bargain. Actually, my niece the photographer may also be a resource. I can get carried away with home decorating. It's just so fun.
Stay well, friends. We can do whatever we set our minds and hearts to. Stay strong.

Did an hour of a Leslie Sansone DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do some of a 10MS Pilates DVD and then take the extremepump class. One thing that I like about Leslie Sansone DVDs is that you can see some saddlebags on her (not much) and most of the women in her videos are “normal” people. Women with things like an extra layer of flab around the middle. It’s not big, but you can still see it. To me, these are “normal” people.
Picked Shadow up today (remember, she had been staying with Jess’ bf while we were in FL?). I had the grilled shrimp for lunch. Why is it that something healthy is the most expensive thing on the menu, well compared to Vince’s burger and Colby’s chicken strips. Got home and made the diaper cake. I don’t know if I like the color on the “smokestack”. I might very some navy material and use that instead.
Holly – Hawaii and Arizona don’t take part in DST. That must be a pain for companies who deliver goods (like Amazon). They have to be sure to schedule deliveries when businesses are open.
I went in Shadow’s room to get her dish for her wet food, she was waiting at the door and snuck out. So she’s now in the living room growling at any of our cats if they come near her. Back to normal!
My temporary crown felt weird, like it had shifted. Then I had an apple and it’s like it shifted back. Go explain that. I’ll probably call the dentist anyway.
