So crazy things going on! The apartment we lived in for 6 years in Oregon is not returning credit checks, pretty much all the realities waiting on! Frustrating! We called a couple times yesterday, left messages! Then I noticed on the message was a trouble call number for tenants, so I called that. At least I got a live person. But the managers are a husband and wife team, she does the managing, and he fixes stuff. So I got him. Kind of a weird intro, "hey, I used to be a tenant, and trying to complete application up here in Whidbey island. My name is Such and such, and he cut me off.... He said I don't do any managing stuff this number is for 24 hour emergencies, so byeee! And he hung up on me! Today going to the realtor office and tell them we can prove we paid on time since 2012!
Have a tour today as well!

Hi Ladies!! My first post here. Joined MFP on Feb 21, but only got onto the boards in the past few weeks.
So happy to find a group of FABULOUS AND OVER 50 LADIES here. My goal is to lose about 105 lbs. with 11.4 gone already. I'm working through a medical clinic that specializes in weight loss, and they recommend using MFP. You also get blood tests and other tests (which I haven't had yet) to make sure you're on track. I'm not doing this alone. My husband and kids are also working on weight loss (it's a family affair for us), but my DH is following it like me rather than half-@ssing it like the kids. They're teenagers. But they're losing weight because we're not bringing snack foods into the house anymore, and they're too cheap to buy their own!
I hope everyone has a great day. Only 2 more sleeps until Opening Day for the Toronto Blue Jays!!

We have 2 cell phones and a house phone...all 3 just got a robo call within 10 minutes of each other! Ugh!3

So last night a watched a video of an obese woman's autopsy. It was amazing to see! The layer of yellow fat under her abdomen was a startling reality. Every one of her organs was encapsulated in its own fat bag. Granted, a small layer is normal, but the amount around her heart literally choked her heart, making it not a muscle, but a limp bag. The ventricles normally thick, and muscle, we're thin. Her liver was enlarged and light pink, meaning filled with fat, instead of a brighter red. It was a video that made me sit up and take notice! I could be that lady, though the coroner stated her heart disease would've shown up in her life, making it hard for her to take deep breaths, or walk upstairs. Going to the gym, walking for 30 minutes healthly, I am not this lady. She led a difficult life, she was just in her late 50's. Anyways, I felt life telling me to sit and watch this video, and so I did.

P.s., Didn't get the house.😔7 -
Well I am up to date again. I am so upset with myself as my weight is up almost 4 pounds this week. Seems I lose and gain the same couple pounds and it has to stop. I know it is my own fault. No excuse.
KJ--Great news on your surgery results.
Barbara--Your stove looks a lot like mine and DH loves the grill in the middle and uses it a lot. I do not like the stainless steel and would not buy them again.
Trucker--Great news on onderland.
Wish the weather would make up it's mind. Sounds like we are in for more rain and chance of snow next week. I want to get outside and work around the house and get things done.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE1 -
When I make up my mind, I work fast. I scheduled a painter to start Friday.
Now I have to get some boxes and start packing up all the little stuff - books, pictures, figurines, etc. this will be a great opportunity for decluttering and cleaning.
Carol, the robo calls are continuous at our house. For a while I would answer, but I finally quit. Sometimes the cell will ring as soon as the landline stops. Nancy, my Medicare representative, is particularly relentless. Every time she promises this is my last opportunity or the government will revoke my Medicare eligibility. That is the one that pushed me over the edge. If I get a legit call, they will leave a message. I did get a message yesterday that sounded so sincere and legitimate until she started talking about my need to consolidate all of my unsecured debt. I don’t have any of that! I can see how people are taken in. I’ve even had messages that said they were in response to my inquiry. No! Somebody, somewhere, ought to be smart enough to figure out a way to stop these calls.2 -
Machka ... such a precious photo of you and your grandmother.
Barbara ... You've given me oven envy ...I wish the inside of my oven looked so clean!
Heather ... Tomato and red pepper soup sounds really good to me right now .... recipe link?
Lanette ... an article I bookmarked from the American Stroke Association regarding restricted time fasting.
Today I began tackling the outdoor spring clean-up. We have a debacle in the side yard where the trees were late in losing their leaves and when they did they were immediately covered with snow creating a thick mat that now needs cleaned up. I spent 3 hours this afternoon raking and moving sopping wet leaves (and will most like need traction tonight ) and only got about 1/3 -1/2 done. But at least some of it is done and I have 14K steps in for today so far!!
The whole yard for that matter (1 acre) is in serious need of care. My husband, as you may recall, has had multiple back surgeries in the past 3 years and had arthroscopic knee surgery 2 weeks ago as well. He really has not been able to keep up with things and I've been waiting for him to do things like this again. While he's better, there are a lot of things he will not be able to do again and I'm just going to have to do them ... a little bit at a time.

Barbara: Thanks for your good wishes. I saw the doctor today and the worst part was finding the parking lot.
Machka: I also love raspberries. I hope your raspberry plants flourish and provide many berries. :flowerforyou:
Rori: Thanks for sharing news that Meg is safe from flooding.
Rebecca: Your DDIL has a lovely baby bump. Congratulations!!! Sorry to hear that you didn’t get the house. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and your family.
Heather: I enjoyed your photos of the dance and you with your friend outside in the sunshine. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Love the photo of you and Kirby in the car.
Rori: Home improvements can make life so much better after the work is all done. Living in the space that is being improved is another thing.
Machka: You are so right that a healthy lifestyle includes more than cutting things out. It has more to do with adding in exercise, fun, play and personal creativity. I love the photo of you and your grandmother.
Michele: Thanks for your happy anniversary wishes.
Dana in AR: 93 trees?!? Wow! I’m glad you didn’t have serious damage from your storms. It seems like you must have a guardian angel. :flowerforyou:
Medical results are in for the bump on my back. It is a cyst and is not malignant. The doctor recommended I wait until it is bigger and then get it removed. Waiting is likely to result in significantly lower out of pocket costs for me, and I’m not in any danger from the bump.

Beth - thanks, very good article! Looks like restricted eating during any timeframe is somewhat beneficial. I'm aiming for 6 hour "feast" time. And way to go with the yard clean up. 14K steps is impressive.
Katla - glad to hear good news on the cyst on your back. Bet you'll be glad when it is gone tho.
Rebecca - your OR landlords...sheesh. Hope the "boss" has gotten back to you now and provides the reference you need.
I've been setting my little tomatoes out in the sun for a few hours each day...chillier than the greenhouse but it does them good to get some unrestricted rays and a little breeze tugging at them and getting them to toughen up. 42 of those guys, about half destined for the Master Gardener Plant Sale and the rest for me and my peeps.
Trying my hand at growing some flowers this year. Marigolds and Bachelor Buttons germinated quite well. But I had no idea Petunia, Canterbury Bells, Snapdragons, Phlox had such teensy seeds and once germinated, have stems about the size of a human hair. Not sure if any will survive, they are still on heat mats under the grow lights. Whatever the nursery charges for them already going is worth it, lol.
Making meatloaf, mashed potatoes, carrots for supper. DH will be happy to eat leftovers for a few days and I'll be happier not to cook.
Looking forward to the podiatrist. Kind of hoping he gives me a cortisone shot. I think the taping helped a little but it's not a long-term solution.

Today is National Make Up Your Own Holiday Day!
"Today's holiday encourages people to make up their own holidays about anything they want! If there isn't a holiday about it already, it's fair game! It can be a funny, bizarre, or very serious holiday. Make Up Your Own Holiday Day was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays, who are no strangers to making up holidays." Today is a day to celebrate whatever we feel like celebrating, so I hereby declare it Purple Hair Day.
Philip is off work on Tuesdays so I sent him to the grocery store with a list. This will be our first shot at re-using some of the Home Chef recipes on our own. I love the convenience of having everything packaged up and sent to me but the packaging is very wasteful so I want to cut back on using the meal service. Some of the recipes use tiny amounts of things I don't keep on hand (demiglace concentrates, various seasoning blends, etc.), but I'll just focus on the ones that use or can be substituted with staple items in our pantry so we don't end up buying a bunch of specialty ingredients that we use one time.
It's a gorgeous day out, so I'm off for walkies with Luna and Forrest. Sweet Forrest is still having a hard time grasping the idea waiting until he's outside to do his business, but we're working on it. Once we have housebreaking under control he'll be ready for adoption and I'm sure someone will snap him up.

Katla - Great news about your cyst!
We don't get a lot of nuisance calls these days, just one or two very occasionally on my cellphone. There is a number we can call to register our landlines against nuisance calls and they can be fined if they ignore the prohibition. It can't stop international calls though, but I can see that on the display. Haven't had them for a while now.
Went to Swing dancing lesson and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even DH found it a bit easier this week. I think he quite enjoyed it too. I could see one of his partners giving him a big hug.
Came back and watched a Vera repeat.
Beth - I don't have a recipe. Basically I just roast a tray full of red peppers, big vine tomatoes, whole onions until they char a little. 30 mins hot oven? Put them in a saucepan with good chicken stock and cook for a while. Then blitz it with a stick blender. Season to taste. I also use some pomegranate molasses to add a bit of acidity, but you could use a squeeze of lemon juice to taste. I bought a big pile of veg from a cheap shop, but it could be pricey from a supermarket. My son insists I sieve the soup to get rid of the tomato pips, but I don't bother if it's just for DH and me. It's one of our favourite soups that I first had in Australia and tried to copy. If you had a jar of roasted peppers you could add that, but it would add considerably to the cost. My soup has made six very large bowlfuls. I have frozen four portions for future guests. I like to have a store of food for visitors, then it never feels so overwhelming.

I’ve caught up on posts. I decided yesterday to clean and organize one of my cupboards and when I turned around I caught the dust on n my china cabinet. That led me to emptying my china cabinet, washing all of its contents and pulling it out to give a good cleaning in behind it. I washed a mark on the wall and have since washed all the walls and rearranged some pictures in the kitchen, dining room, living room and hallway. I have also scrubbed all the way through.
It wasn’t my intention to do all of that but it kept me busy and burned some calories.
I received an email this morning that I didn’t get the job that I interviewed twice for last week. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. This afternoon we found out that my husbands EI has ended, 2 weeks earlier than last year. This is going to leave us very short these next two weeks.
Rebecca - sorry you didn’t get the house.

Did an extreme strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Amy Dixon’s Breathless DVD since we have a Newcomer board meeting (and my last…yea)
Dana – when we were putting down the river rock, one of the absolute best things we ever bought was a gorilla cart. https://smile.amazon.com/Gorilla-Carts-GOR4PS-Pneumatic-600-Pound/dp/B01BECQAWO/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=MQ3E76AJXP09&keywords=gorilla+cart&qid=1553591416&s=gateway&sprefix=gorilla,aps,148&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1 It’s been worth its weight in gold. You have no idea how many times we’ve used it since putting down the river rock. Admitted, we needed something rated for heavy weight because we were putting down the rock, but we’ve used it for so so much more.
M – the best part about the shower? I guess you could say the open bar…lol And I’m not a drinker at all! The food wasn’t bad, either. I liked seeing Denise and her new place. I was disappointed that no one seemed to care when she was opening the gifts. And they stayed WAAAYYY longer than they were supposed to. The girls came out and started putting clean table cloths on….still hanging around. The manager locked one door….still hanging around. The manager turned out the lights….still hanging around.
M – what a lovely picture of you and your grandmother
Did a bit of the quilting. Did I mention how much I hate quilting. To me, this is a necessary evil.
Welcome everyone new!
My weight was up today, but I realized that I totally forgot about my Lenten sacrifice and had some candy. I’m just going to have fruit from now on and it seems that that’s helping me lose
Vicki – the weather is supposed to get nicer here as the week goes on. I’m pumped to get the pool open!
Katla – phew! Glad that bump isn’t something more serious
Hey, hey, hey, when we were in FL a friend gave me this tree, a loquat, and I haven’t killed it YET (yet being the operative word). Come close a few times, it was looking pretty sad. But it’s still green, miracles DO happen….lol
Tracey – one thing leads to another…that happens so many times to me. I’m sorry you didn’t get the job. Something better will come along.
I did a little bit more quilting. Did I happen to mention how much I hate it?

Rebecca Sorry about y’all not getting the house.
Carol and DrKatieBug I ended up getting Robokiller. It’s a service where robo calls, telemarketers and such are forwarded to them. The party can leave a message if then want but after being told that RoboKiller picked up the call most do not. It costs $2.99 a month and I pay it thru my iTunes account on my iPhone. I have all of my contacts or businesses in my phone so those are recognized.
Lanette Hello! I haven’t talked to you lately!
Katla Yes, there are 93 large red oaks, hickories and pines. A few cedars too. Central Arkansas is mostly forest and has several national forests. Ouachita and Ozark. We have an acre and a third. The far back part is left natural because of a creek but my DH mows probably close to an acre.
We raked up more leaves today and picked up branches that came done in the last storm. It’s a common occurrence for the trees to be dropping stuff al the time.
I did good on my tracking and watching my food. We were both tired this evening so DH went to Wendy’s and picked up a salad for me. It was the Harvest Chicken salad. Pretty good salad with apples, cranberries, feta, bacon, lettuce and of course the chicken. A full salad was 590 calories.
No desert tonight!
Have a good evening/day!

Barbara. Love your stove. I’m thinking seriously of switching to a propane stove.
Thank you for the supportive words. Feels so good to have the court recognize and validate my sister and I. I’m reading everyday but not posting much. We’ve been busy putting expenses together to submit lawyer/legal fees for reimbursement..

Some neighbors down the street had a very large red oak fall over on their house during a wind/rain storm 4 days ago. It did considerable damage to the 2nd story bonus/play room and took out the corner of the roof & wall of the main house as well. It looks like a perfectly healthy tree...I think it just had a shallow root structure and went over. I feel really sorry for them, it's a lot of damage. Apparently the 2 girls (granddaughters) had been playing in the room and had gone downstairs to the kitchen to be with their grandmother shortly before it happened. No one was injured.
My grandson is doing 3rd quarter benchmark tests this week. He didn't do as well as last time: 83% in Civics, 85% in Math, and 90% in Language Arts. He made careless mistakes, which happens when he takes shortcuts. We went over the questions he missed, and there were only a couple of questions he really didn't know. His heart just wasn't in it this time. Benchmark tests don't count towards grades; the teachers use them to identify the areas where remedial SOL teaching is warranted.
Count me as a raspberry lover, too. Having some with homemade yogurt in a few minutes. Yum.
My son was looking through an old crate full of his saved letters & cards & found a torn gift bag that belonged to me containing an old Hummel (belonged to my paternal grandmother), a handmade bowl I had given my mother, a newspaper from 1988, a shot glass, a cork from a bottle of wine...and the real treasure: a letter written in January 1919 from my then 19-year-old maternal grandfather to my 21-year-old grandmother. They weren't married yet. He was just returning from the war and was in New York, headed back to South Dakota. Gramps' handwriting was beautiful. He expressed his hopes that Granny would still feel favorably towards him when he got back to South Dakota. It has a 3 cent stamp on it and a legible postmark. My heart is full.

I really am around. My trip home was a success! I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
My aunt is doing amazingly well. We are pleased with her progress. She goes to the surgeon (I think) on Thursday.
Aubrey is home. She came home a week ago. She is just happy to be out of the hospital I think! She loves sitting up and riding around on her Daddy's chest in a front pack. There was a scare on Friday before I got there. Aubrey started throwing up again. That is what happened last time she stenosed. Her mom realized that the only changes they had made was adding a fortifier to her feedings. Aubrey had been tolerating breast milk fine. Paige discontinued the fortifier and Aubrey hasn't thrown up since. She is 3 months old. 9lbs 5 oz. She managed 20 ml of breast milk from a bottle, then finished the rest by feeding tube. No tummy time for little one due to the surgeries. It will take several months for her sternum to heal. Her medication list is a full college rule page with times, days, and check marks. They set alarms on alexa to remind them of what is coming up. They chart everything. It is awesome listening to Eric (daddy) talk about the different diapers, toys, clothes, and bouncer things. He was amazing! Aubrey starts day care of sorts this week. She will be with Jay and Jacki (my brother and SIL) on Mondays and Tuesdays. With her mom on Wednesdays. With a sitter on Thursdays and Fridays. With Dad on weekends. Being as Aubrey is a 1 million dollar baby, I reckon the parents must keep working! Several of the surgeries that have happened have never happened on one so young. The faith of her parents is inspiring. Paige says that she just has to love each and every day with Aubrey. They both feel they have learned so much from her. She is indeed a happy baby! They had a fund raiser last night. The local family resteraunt donated 10% of all sales, all day towards the medical expenses. There was a raffle with lots of donated items. It was a record sales night! There are a couple of other fund raisers already in the works at different places. They are so blessed in their community.
Well, Dana stayed all day Saturday. Tia managed to get there by 10. Left at 10:15. Came back at 11:30 and left by 1. Donovan ran his butt off. On Monday, Dana stayed at shop until 9:30 am. We open at 9. We were busy all day!!!! I ended up doing about 3 hours of work once I got home. That was after I cleaned the kitchen, mopped the floors, vacuumed, and while I did laundry. Today was slower, Thank God!!! Dana not there. Tia finally showed up at 10. She wasn't much help!!! She did get part of her mom's work done for her-grumble, but when she was done with that she left. It was around 11:30. I did get all the invoices called that I had totaled at least. That took me until 3. I brought work home, but just not in the mood. Will do in the morning. Steve says I need to give Tia tasks, but the last time I did, she totally screwed it up! I really need another me. Then I got yelled at by Steve as He apparently doesn't hear a darn thing I say. We had discussions including with Dana on how short the sale time was on the mowers, yet supposedly, he has told folks they will be on sale til the end of April. Well......right now....the sale was for March only! It ends Thursday! Some days I don't know which end is up!
My daughters are a little upset with me as I didn't discuss my trip with them. They would have both gone and helped drive. They are so busy that I just didn't think about it. Oh well. I needed this one.
I have more to write and lots to read. I am covered up at work. The good news is I am on track to not gain weight this month. Scale may not show any loss, but no gain is acceptable!
Stay strong my Lovely Ladies!
Say something nice about yourself today. Negative self talk sucks! You are all STRONG and BEAUTIFUL women who mean the WORLD to us!

There's a thread going in another forum, and I thought I'd bring the central thought of that thread over here ...
You don’t have to cut out everything to have a healthy lifestyle
I sort of think the person might have been talking about food, but to me "lifestyle" is so much more than food.
I responded ...
Right.
I still work full time at a pretty decent job.
I still attend university part time working toward a goal I've had for a long time.
I still ride my bicycle, row on my rowing machine, and walk lots. I'll run again too once my hip has healed up a bit. And one day, we'll get the canoe on the water.
I still dabble in photography.
I still travel.
I haven't had to give up any of that to have a healthy lifestyle! In fact, all of those things are key elements of my healthy lifestyle.
What are some positive elements of your healthy lifestyle? Things you've kept through the years? Things you've added?
For example, one thing I added a few years ago was a decent bed (mattress and box-spring). I still don't sleep a lot during the week, but I look forward to the comfort of my bed at the end of the day.
Previously, I'd wake up with sore hips and shoulders ... feeling achy and not rested ...

Hi Gals,
Tracey – you refer to El – it seems to be some sort of financial help??? But what is it? Sorry to hear you did not get the job…
Karen – so glad the neighbors are ok… I am surprised that a Red Oak had shallow roots, I have a California Red Oak (common names they may be different species) that I put in because of the deep roots as I wanted it near the driveway and the sidewalk.
Aren’t the old letters the best? I have my parents love letters – pre-marriage – and I love them.
I have logged everything for 3 days, not much, but better than I was…and have been walking 11,000+ steps. I think I told you but about 8-9 months ago the yoga teacher I liked changed places to teach and the new place is out of my budget, I have tried a few; but all too pricey. And I know I could and should do it at home, I just don’t. A class works better for me. I found a new one at the right price and I have been 3 times. It is hard, she has us hold each pose for at least a minute some times more, I end up very sore at the end. I am going to do one more month and then re-consider. It is a class for seniors. She doesn’t do any balance, twists, or anything with our heads lowered at all – so no toe touches, downward dog, or even cat and cow positions… she reminds us that we are old and that old people should not lower our heads below our heart because of our blood pressure – I do not consider myself old, and I know about ½ of the folks in the class all between 50-60 and all still working.
I wish location, time and cost were not so important!
