M - this lap quilt is a thing that I x-stitched for us to hang on the wall. it needs to be quilted. Most people that I know only do machine quilting. I just don't care for that so I hand quilt it. Now I do have another quilt that I x-stitched that needs to be quilted. But the top part is prequilted so what I'm thinking (I just have to check with one gal who does a lot of machine quilting) is that it should probably be quilted by machine along where it's been prequilted.
You can count me as a raspberry lover, and a blueberry, and a strawberry, actually, I can't think of a fruit that I DON'T like.

Hi Gals,
Tracey – you refer to El – it seems to be some sort of financial help??? But what is it? Sorry to hear you did not get the job…
Karen – so glad the neighbors are ok… I am surprised that a Red Oak had shallow roots, I have a California Red Oak (common names they may be different species) that I put in because of the deep roots as I wanted it near the driveway and the sidewalk.
Aren’t the old letters the best? I have my parents love letters – pre-marriage – and I love them.
I have logged everything for 3 days, not much, but better than I was…and have been walking 11,000+ steps. I think I told you but about 8-9 months ago the yoga teacher I liked changed places to teach and the new place is out of my budget, I have tried a few; but all too pricey. And I know I could and should do it at home, I just don’t. A class works better for me. I found a new one at the right price and I have been 3 times. It is hard, she has us hold each pose for at least a minute some times more, I end up very sore at the end. I am going to do one more month and then re-consider. It is a class for seniors. She doesn’t do any balance, twists, or anything with our heads lowered at all – so no toe touches, downward dog, or even cat and cow positions… she reminds us that we are old and that old people should not lower our heads below our heart because of our blood pressure – I do not consider myself old, and I know about ½ of the folks in the class all between 50-60 and all still working.
I wish location, time and cost were not so important!
Kim from N. California
EI is Employment Insurance ... it's what you get when you've been laid off work. Unfortunately it usually is only for a limited period of time. (aka "dole" in more British areas)
How old is the instructor? I'm into my 50s and husband in his 60s and I've never heard about lowering our heads below our heart because of blood pressure. Also, why would our blood pressure be any different than a younger person? I'd be tempted to say something to the main organiser about age discrimination!! And you're right ... 50-60 is not old!

That led me to emptying my china cabinet, washing all of its contents and pulling it out to give a good cleaning in behind it. I washed a mark on the wall and have since washed all the walls and rearranged some pictures in the kitchen, dining room, living room and hallway. I have also scrubbed all the way through.
It wasn’t my intention to do all of that but it kept me busy and burned some calories.
I received an email this morning that I didn’t get the job that I interviewed twice for last week. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. This afternoon we found out that my husbands EI has ended, 2 weeks earlier than last year. This is going to leave us very short these next two weeks.

So sorry to hear that. I hope something better comes along soon.
I also did a lot of cleaning during my years of unemployment. It's one way I take my frustrations out.

So sorry Tracey about the job. It must be so frustrating. Perhaps you could use your time while you are not working to brush up your skills on the computer, like you did the other day, and also do some paid cleaning for other people to take out your frustrations. It seems to workfor you! Round here cleaners are paid well over the Living Wage. My last cleaner in my old house had horses and a Landrover. It's a great way to keep fit as well! My niece, who didn't really need the money, used to iron for people, because she found it meditative and relaxing. It wouldn't stop you still being gung ho about getting a job. I hope something turns up for you soon. Money worries are the worst.
My neck is still stiff and sore. My sleeping is poor because of general aching. Boo! Today I have yoga after lunch.
Kim - I have never heard such nonsense as from your teacher. I am 69 and still doing everything! At my old house several participants were over 80 and still doing the lot! I am not keen on my present teacher's style, but it's nearby and at a convenient time. I sooooooooooooo miss my previous teacher. I LOVED her and my class. I might not continue with this one as I do a short yoga every morning, but I'm giving her a go. Like yours she tends to hold poses for a long time and not much variation. She concentrates on the spine. But we are doing inverted postures!
This evening we are going to try our the Sri Lankan restaurant down the road. We can walk there. Going to get there early to eat as we have a French lecture at our French circle later, on Baudelaire. I did him as part of my French A level. I liked the racy bits!
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx0 -
Hi Ladies
Dana Lovely picture of your daughter skydiving, not a thing I would like to try mind you. I like my feet on the ground.
Barbara the muffins look yummy, and I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to limit myself to just one!
Machka lovely photo of you and your grandma
Heather I have 9 windows and a patio door and my window cleaner only charges £8. He’s in his 70s (I think) and I do worry about him climbing the ladder, especially to my bedroom window because we have tiles on the patio and he asks me to hold the ladder for him. I'm so scared of heights (even for other people) that I have to close my eyes the whole time! Many a time I say not to bother with that window, but he always insists. He does a good job, he washes the door and all the windowsills. He comes about once every 3 months or so. I think that about all my nerves could take!
Allie Hope you have enough shiplap – keeping fingers crossed.
Welcome BellaB
Vicki I’m in the same boat, losing and gaining the same few pounds, it’s very frustrating! But I have only myself to blame. Not sure how I can get out of this rut though, well I do, where’s the boot!
I’m another one who doesn’t answer the landline if I don’t recognise the number. I was sick of hearing my broadband would be cut off etc or “I am not selling anything but could you answer these questions” every few minutes.
Michele Yeah last board meeting ever! Congratulations.
Dana lovely views of trees, I envy you. Where we are all I can see out the back are other houses looking back at me. My sister in law had a beautiful view at her old house, she lived on a hill of her garden led on to the side of the hill (not good when the kids were little, had to make sure they couldn’t get out) but the view on a night time was lovely, all the twinkly lights below. I used to spend ages looking out of her window (she thought I was nuts!) The house she is now is still on a hill (It’s very hilly in Shipley where she lives as opposed to York which is very flat) but her view isn’t half as good, she can see other houses from her window.
Kylia Aubrey is such a little cutie, I hope she continues to improve and get stronger every day. She’s tiny, almost the same size as a newborn. How lovely that fund raising is in place to help with the medical costs. Thankfully this is something we don’t have to think of in the UK.
Well I’d better get a move on, going into town today with mum, Paul (DS) is looking after his grandad for a few hours. Dad was in good spirits at the weekend and even sat downstairs for most of Saturday and a few hours on Sunday. We’ll have to see how he is today.
Love to all

Michele in NC
There are very few fruits I don't like.
I can't eat too many strawberries, I'm not overly fond of fresh papaya or grapefruit, and I'm not brave enough to try durian. But other than that ...
In addition to craving raspberries, I've also been wishing I could get custard apples here in Tasmania.

Hello all! Had a weird issue with mfp yesterday when I logged in. When I tried to the community page (this page) the area where I click (on my laptop it is at the top with three icons; a bell, a star, and a gear) was completely blank. I waited for it to load and it never did. I signed off and back on and still no diff. So I had to find you all through the actual community page and work my through the posts to find my place. (Exhausting) So...TA-Da!!! I am here! lol
Yvonne- This year was my fifth year for celebrating Make Up Your Own Holiday with a kitchen beach party. I build a sandbox in half of my kitchen (this year it was a 10'x3.5' sandbox) that serves as our "beach" and the kids get to stay warm and play in the sand for the day. I think I am going to change it up next year. I still want to have a Kitchen Beach Party but will have it in January; and on a Friday so that I can have friends over to sit in the sand with me at the end of the night. For next year's make-up-your-own-holiday day, I am thinking possible of calling it Have A Ball Day and filling a space with all kinds of balls, and having ball "games", etc.
Kylia- Aubrey So glad she is home and adapting to family life. It is a good sign that she is starting "alternative" care! That means she is strong enough to have someone other than mom and dad to care for her and strong enough to be exposed to others germs. Yea! Grow baby, grow!
Rebecca- Sorry you didn't get the house and that your previous landlords are being so difficult. Your daughter in law looks fantastic, by the way!
Machka- The photo of you and your grandmother is fantastic!
Tracey- Sorry about not getting the job! The right one for you is just around the corner, I am sure of it!
I am sure I am missing sending greetings and words of sympathy and concern to some of you; they are there in my head and heart for you, just having a hard time remembering who needs what and finding the time to write it. Hugs to all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (kelly)3 -

Kelly ... I was "denied permission" yesterday to comment. Had to log out and log back in repeatedly.
Tracey ... hoping you find something soon!
Kylia ... Aubrey is a cutie! So glad to hear she is getting stronger by the day!
As expected, my body was in rebellion last night after doing so much yard work! Which is too bad because I need to get at it again today.

Patience is a virtue that is so useful. Between MFP being uncooperative, trouble finding the right job or right place to live, weight coming off, waiting to heal from injury or illness, getting along in traffic or with a difficult family member, patience is the asset that comes in so handy and is often hard to access.

Aubrey is so cute, great that the community are fund raising for her care. Agree about her being with different people it will make her stronger.
I have been quite good with eating and logging, upped exercise as well. The lbs were creeping on again and I need to lose some more before I go to Greece in 7 weeks yay can't wait.
Going to meet some new people on Saturday, my DD told me about website called meetup where loads of different groups meet up obviously. People interested in loads of different things, from trips out, language learning, anything and everything. Anyway I found one for knitting socks I know don't laugh I can knit but have never knitted socks. There are about 8 in the group and our first meeting is Sat so we'll see if it suits. Learning a new skill is supposed to be good for the brain as is socialising. Keep the dementia at bay LOL

I also had trouble with MFP last night. I wouldn’t let me comment unless I signed in and I was signed in. Couldn’t‘ even mark my place.
Kim- I do yoga and I will be 80 in July. I go to the Y as it is so much more economical. I can take as many classes as I want and DH used the machines. My favorite class after yoga is balance. Sounds easy but it is very challenging. There are some issues for people with glaucoma putting their head way down but I don’t have that.
Heather - I got a quote to have my windows cleaned before my big book club party and the guy quoted $165. I usually pay $75 but that guy got bit by a dog and isn’t working right now. So I did the most important ones and left the rest for now.
Aubrey- is so adorable and reminds me of my preemie twins so much. Connor only weighed 2lb 10oz and was born at 31 weeks. He was in hospital for three months. Now he runs cross country and track for his high school. But we worried about him for years.
Tracey- sorry about the job. Are you able to draw unemployment? Stay busy, volunteer, and do things you love to do while you have the time.
Michele- I agree, if you hate quilting, don’t.
Played golf yesterday and a weird thing happened. About the 16th hole, the muscle in my left arm felt like it popped. Really hurt and had issues most of the night. I soaked in Epsom Salts and put SalonPas on it and it’s better today. Scared me though.
Well the pecan trees are budding out so that means no more freezes in TX. Fingers crossed. I remember for DH’s big birthday party last year it was 34 with snow flakes. Yikes it was cold.
Got to get busy and do something,. Playing bridge later today.

I have caught up but didn’t make notes as I was reading between cleaning spurts yesterday.
I am on unemployment, and I’m very grateful for it, but it’s just not enough money. It is about 1000 less per month than what I make working. My husband is a seasonal worker for the City and we found out yesterday that his Unemployment has ended 2 weeks earlier than previous years. So now we also have that gap to fill.
I am going to bring the Grands out for the day and possibly the night. They are always good for stress relief.
I’ll check in later

Lanette: I’m glad the cyst isn’t malignant but grumpy that I have to wait to get it removed due to some screwball Medicare rule. The doctor said that Medicare wouldn’t pay for the surgery unless the cyst was a certain size. :grumble:
M in OZ: I prefer not to answer the phone unless it is from someone I know. The automated sale calls/robo calls are an invasion of privacy and a nuisance. Unfortunately, our government doesn’t support a no-call list as they did under a different administration in the past. :ohwell:
Michelle: Our niece’s daughter had a baby shower at a restaurant and the guests lingered way beyond the time that the restaurant was expecting. I felt sorry for the restaurant owners. I think that if a reception is being held at a public restaurant, there should be an agreed upon ending time or the guests should purchase food or drinks like any other customers would. Just my 2 cents worth. I also enjoy hand quilting for the squares once they’ve been sewn together. I wouldn’t want to try to hand stitch the squares together. :noway:
Dana: I’ve always longed to live on an acreage, but DH grew up on one and didn’t enjoy it. His sister inherited it from their dad and still lives there. DH has no desire to take care of that much property. He says he did his share on his parent’s property when he was a kid. Now his health wouldn’t allow that level of work. :ohwell:
Pip: I love the Christmas backyard photo.
Karen in VA: So sorry about your neighbor’s fallen oak and the damage it caused. :ohwell:
Kylia: I am so happy to hear your Auntie is doing well. I hope for a successful surgery. I am also delighted about the good news for baby Aubrey.
Kim: My first job out of college was as a claims-taker at the Unemployment Office. UI = unemployment insurance so I’m guessing that EI means the same thing. We were in an area with high paid but seasonal lumber mill jobs and there were towns nearby that depended on UI during the off season to keep grocery stores and gas stations in business. :flowerforyou: RE Yoga: The right teacher makes a huge difference but If this is the class you can take I’d suggest that you hold the pose as long as you can and then rest in prayer position. Get back at it when you’re ready. That is what I do when a position is too much for me.
Barbie: My mom had a little ditty about patience. I can’t tell you how many thousand times she recited it to me:
Patience is a virtue,
Possess it if you can,
Seldom found in woman
And never found in man.
Unknown
Speaking of patience. I have to wait for surgery to get the cist off of my back until it reaches some particular size—medicare rules. :grumble:

Rebecca--Sorry about the house. What a wake up call about the autopsy.
I agree about the robo calls. They call our land line and the cells. I even get them on the phone at the hospital. We have put all our numbers on the Do not call list and still get them. They tell me because they are computer dialed.
Katla--Great news about the bump.
Tracey--Sorry about the job. Worry about money seems to never end.
Karen--What a great gift that letter is.
Kylia--Great news about Aubrey. Sounds like they have a good support system around them.
Well take care ladies and remember One Day at a time.

Kylia ~ Love Aubrey's little mop of red hair! So glad she is home and hope she continues to prosper.
Rebecca ~ Hope you find a new lodging you will love.
Tracy ~ So sorry the job opportunity fell through but know that when the time is right it will happen. As someone else said, enjoy your time at home and with the grands.
Went to the last PT appointment today that I will get before the knee op in the middle of April. I have been faithful n doing the recommended exercises...the PT guy measured my ability to lower my knee down and declared a great improvement. Yeah ME ! Will keep it up.
Going to walk the POM and hope the pollen doesn't do me in!

Tracey - so sorry to hear you didn't get the job. Sometimes, a person is able to ask why they didn't get the job to get some tips. Asking in a non-threatening way, such as "do you have any suggestions for me on what areas I might improve on?" Gives them a chance to help you AND keep you in their radar in case the person they hired didn't work out. Of course, they might have a legal reason not to give specifics, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Rebecca - I'm still watching the "Silent Witness" series - every episode has an autopsy, and I recall at least one where the deceased was more heavy-set. They were trying to solve a murder so didn't go into the fatty liver and all that. Kind of fascinating but don't think I'd want to watch one in person. When I had laparoscopic surgery to have an ovarian cyst checked out, I asked the surgeon (female) if she could do some lipsuction while she was in my belly area. Said no, sorry, if that was allowed she'd do it to herself, lol.
Katla - sorry you have to wait on that cyst removal. My doc freezes "spots" if they look suspicious or are rubbing on clothing. I remember when I had moles removed at the derm many years ago - they were sent in for biopsies and thank goodness for insurance because it was billed as $$ "minor surgery". Did the doc say specifically what kind of cyst it is? Sebaceous perhaps?
Back from the podiatrist. Irritated nerves, not quite a neuroma yet. Got a nice cortisone shot - he gave it thru the TOP of my foot, said doing on the sole would hurt 100 times worse. Actually didn't hurt that much, have some bruising tho on the top and have been elevating and icing it. Will make an appointment to get real orthotics, doc gave me a prescription. He said my Keen shoes were great. I also asked him if anyone had called him "Toe Bro" yet, lol. He got a good laugh. If I can get these docs to chuckle they kind of relax.
Anyhow, bottom of my foot now feels wonderful. He said if all this doesn't work, I might have to have my teensy bunion attended to. I do have a little bit of a bump there, nothing compared to the one my mom had. I know that joint was painful for her. Miss my mom!!

Lanette: I am so happy that your foot is feeling better now. That is good news. :flowerforyou:
My doctor called this a subcutaneous cyst. The dictionary tells me it means situated under the skin. There is no sign at all that it could be a skin cancer, thank goodness. It is located on my chest where it wouldn’t be exposed to sunshine anyway. Evidently I have to wait for the procedure due to medicare rules. :noway: :grumble:
Today we are having our heating and cooling system worked on. This is repairing damage caused a couple of years ago by the raccoon invasion. The “professionals” who worked under our house at that time did some damage as they were cleaning up raccoon mess. That resulted in no heat or air-conditioning in our upstairs bedrooms. Now we’re going to have cool air when we want it and warm air when we want it downstairs AND upstairs. YAYYYYYYYYY!

Sri Lankan restaurant was ok, but not more than that. Won't rush back. It's the kind of food I can cook for myself and the service was well meaning, but not fantastic. Also not cheap.
The French lecture about Baudelaire was barely ok. The lecturer's English accent was not a pleasure and he read most of the lecture. I learnt more from Wikipedia this morning! He was clearly passionate about his subject, but not a natural communicator. I did Baudelaire and the Symbolists for A level, so I understood a bit more than my poor DH!
Well, we got out of the house and enjoyed being out and about. I had a conversation in French, which pleased me. I just love walking in to the room and hearing French all round me. I am a proud Francophile. Part of it is that I just adore the language.

No amount of regret changes the past
No amount of anxiety changes the future
Any amount of gratitude changes the present
A quote from my DDIL's Facebook page.
I would add that a help with anxiety about the future is accurate information and proactive action. But when you have done all you can then surrender and serenity is in order. But you have to do all you can first.
Yesterday I put in an order for an online magazine, but then realised I had already read it. At first I could find no way of returning
it, but I ploughed through the Amazon system and eventually sent off a random email to a totally different heading. Got a very nice reply and a refund! I figured that a try was better than nothing and I had nothing to lose except a few minutes of my time. Result!
But there have been many times I've worried about something I have no power over. :noway:
