Allie Only you can decide about giving your brother money, and you are right to make it a gift if you decide to. I have been where you are with my own brothers, and finally had to say "no more money". Since then, one of my brothers is in almost daily contact & never mentions money, and the other is snarky even when I send him birthday and Christmas gift cards from Amazon. That brother also asked for, & got, a lot of money from Mom when she was alive. He is 70 this summer but has never figured out how to provide properly for himself. We (his family) subsidized him for many years. I assume he is getting some kind of aid from the government at this point. My taxes at work. :D:D:D

Beth Ooooohh! Good luck at the endodontist's. Ugh. Sorry you have to do that.

Kelly I can hardly wait until Joaquin is with his (insert your grandma name here)! And if I feel this excited, I can only imagine how you feel!!!

It's so hard to figure out how to be compassionate without enabling my deceased friend's caregiver. For now, I'm determined never to send any $$ or gift cards, but willing to arrange for delivery of groceries and pay for a bus pass, if he'll go to health services and apply for assistance. But he seems unwilling, unable to stand in line or fill out forms. Catch 22.

Yesterday roofer didn't come, nor let us know when he will. Played "foot" with Tumble, made brown rice, sent trip info to Denise and spent a lot of time texting with friend's caregiver.
Today I will order groceries for the caregiver, go to T'ai Chi and line dancing, squeeze in a call to widowed friend.

pip that amazon biz card IS cool and so is the story. Choking on taste of Costco potato salad? You're right, we all, but especially hostess of tasting tables, should know how to do the tummy thrusts. Safe travels!
Machka Thanks for the HowTo search all threads for posts by specific someone, containing string, within date range. Answers all my objections to the quick search by page. You and Lisa are my heroes!
I love that you're featured in a film about TBI, but even more I love your hint about the expert team team waiting in the wings. Bravissima!
    Rori hubba hubba hair!
Margaret "...keep the circling birds away ... but let... become strong enough to do their own swimming" Wise words! Thanks!
allie glad you understand any $$ you give your brother will be a gift, not a loan. Hard as it may be, ask yourself if the $$ will help or enable. Starting to ask myself things like "so when these (groceries, funds, gifts) are gone, then what?" Realizing that misplaced kindness actually postpones the consequences that can help bring the person around.
KJ never thought to snip the plasting cap rings, thanks! Have been a six-pack snipper since the sixties ;) Fingers Xd for a restful Monday.
Beth Hard to guide hubs to accept baby steps. Sending safe calm energy.
    Karen in VA your taxes and mine ;}

Unkh. Just got a letter from the IRS saying we owe over $7K in underpaid taxes from 2017. Don't know yet how I made THAT mistake nor how we'll pay. Makes the decision not to help the caregiver for me. We'll both have to take care of our own business. Will work on this today too.

    Lighter, lovelies!

Did Kathy Smith Ultimate Sculpt DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Reebok Cardio Tone DVD

Mary – tell me how hard maintenance is. I wish I had some pearls of wisdom for you but, alas, I don’t. I usually watch what I eat.

M – Michele LeGrand is a famous pianist. I’m not sure if he has an “e” at the end of his name, tho

Pip – any special plans for your vacation? Have a great time. I don’t like potato salad. Sure was great that stranger was there for you

    KJ – love the book

Connie in KY – so sorry for your loss

Linda – always so great to see you. Come by more often

Drkatie – great news on those tests. Regardless of what the doc says, you are doing great

Went in the pool, now working on Denise’s Diamond Dotz. It’s going pretty quick. Went in the spa a bit. Need to take a shower.

Michele in NC where it’s expected to get in the 90’s

Not really. Just relax and enjoy each other’s company, eat new food and drink!

It's Friday! I am trying to catch up here...

    Margaret
    - I always enjoy seeing your flowers.... the ones in the gardens you visit and the ones you paint. <3B) What a super cute little house.

Pip - you are probably on your way? Holy smokes regarding the choking on the potato salad. I have to constantly remind myself to slow down and chew my food. One of my vitamins wanted to go down sideways after supper last night and I thought of you. Managed to cough it up and redirect it, lol. Sorry if TMI! Anyhow, Pip & Kirby, have a great trip. We wanna see pictures!!

Barbara AHMOD - good luck with the IRS and hopefully it's just a clerical or bank error. I got a similar letter last year when our bank decided to call an IRA roll-over a distribution. I knew I was in the right and would work out, but getting the bank to dig out the paperwork and set it right with the IRS made me a little crazy. They didn't seem to be in a hurry then discovered the gal who made the error no longer worked there and they couldn't find the paperwork sent to the IRS in the first place .... lame excuse. I was pretty straightforward with them and asked if any other customers might be in jeopardy. The ENTJ/INTJ just comes out sometimes, lol. Oh, and took our money out of that institution.

    Rori
    - love the haircut. Glad you are only a couple weeks away from giving your boot the boot. Sorry to hear your Morton's Neuroma is kicking up.

Speaking of feet, I'm getting my new orthotics broken in. Put them in my old Keen sturdy shoes. The orthotics guy told me they were a half size too short. I told him before this happened they were the most comfortable shoes I had ever worn and what they recommended - big toe box, sole not real flexible, etc.

He told me I needed to wear cushioned socks - I had some already and with the orthotics, I do need larger shoes. But in the meantime I ordered some Injinji "Toe" socks. My marathon running friend said she wears them all the time in her house.... they look like Pip's running shoes. Anyhow, they look silly but fit just fine in my Keens and seem to be the perfect solution. Next step is probably getting some lighter running type shoes, they recommend the "Hoka One One" with the roller sole.... when the budget allows, maybe next month.

Also, I discovered something to rub on my feet after I've worn my shoes for a long time and my feet/toes are hot and tired. It's called "Frankincense & Myrrh Neuropathy Rubbing Oil". Seems to work well at night too before bed when my feet sometimes burn. I've never been diagnosed with neuropathy but the symptoms sound familiar. This stuff works.

Heather - is there a funeral or memorial service planned for Ros? Maybe you said and I missed it. Your dinner and celebration of life was a fitting thing. So glad you are now near the grands and can enjoy them more often. And glad your brother's kidney stone adventure worked out OK.

Beth - glad you are doing well with the endodontist experience. I'm afraid when I have my checkup in a couple weeks they are going to refer me for a root canal. I do dread it.

I am now ending week#2 of low sugar/intermittent fasting (going 12 or more hours between meals) and a kind of 5:2 - on my Fast days, I cut back to 1/3 to 1/2 of what I'm eating on the other days. Also doing morning stretches and following 10 minute Tai Chi videos on YouTube - there are lots of easy ones.

What made me decide to finally do this was my blood pressure started climbing, balance seemed to be getting worse, fat pants getting tight. All of that sugar and salt binging I've been letting myself get into since last October HAD to stop. Just had to.

So, after 2 weeks, blood pressure is back down in the good/normal range, balance getting better, fat pants getting loose. Scale says about 4 lbs down. Maybe three more to go - I don't mind being at the higher end of the normal BMI range. I am learning to eat when hungry again.

OK time to get moving. Going to be cool today and I have a few more flowers to plant and onion sets to get into the dirt. Now or never, lol.

    Have a great day!

Heather, I’m so glad you had your time with Ros while she was still able to be conversant and able to appreciate the love you held for each other.

Pip, i know what a “plank holder” is in the Navy. I presume it means something similar with an Amazon Building? Your pictures of your dogs, past and present, show me just how much you enjoy their company! What merry, well-groomed dogs! I meant to ask if you ever ride out around Issaquah. There are so many great trails out here, as well as the paths along Lake Sammamish. I see troops of bikes, and individuals all the time.

Linda in Far North Ontario, hope you get used to the insulin protocol quickly and remain stable. Glad you’re feeling so much better.

I’ll post more later. I’m late going home from a quick dinner out.

Trucker and Michele I should of went on insulin years ago when they wanted me to. Feel so much better. Having a great day today. I have close to 3,000 steps on fit bit and that's before dinner. And now to make me a big salad.
Went to Legion this morning and cooked 1/2 case of bacon and a case of sausage for Sundays breakfast. Going to go get the rest of the bacon and my homefries done this afternoon. Trying to keep out of my kitchen

Pip-- How scary. I had a friend a couple years ago lived a lone on a farm and got something stuck. He died and they found him trying to get to the phone for help. He was only 59 and had neck cancer surgery a year before. Glad you are okay.

    Rori--Like the new haircut.

Beautiful day today and I am inside. I have the next 3 days off. DH works Saturday and Monday so I am hoping to get a couple projects done. Finish the baby blanket as the baby is due June 3. Then put some pictures in albums. Enjoy your weekend ladies.

Lanette - we are still waiting to hear about the funeral. She has paid for it and written out her wishes. We discussed it in detail while I was up there last time. All her friends are still communicating on our WhatsApp group. Today they were sending photos of the little memorials they were creating for her in their homes. So many of us had the same idea! The cups and plates she gave us and other hand made presents, along with her hand written messages. Some people were floating candles in the cups. :D<3 She had the knack of 'paying attention' so we all felt truly special.

    • Bright Spots : sorted out lawyer thing after a few more very tense days, some decent people at work, met this very nice friend's out of town brother at an event

    Grateful :
    1.lawyers coming through for me
    2. one of the correctors is really on the ball and communicative
3.met a friend's brother at a function and we had a really nice little talk

my god I was sooo stressed this week. basically I had a legal thing to sort out and my old lawyer is overbooked, works alone and has another speciality that he's developing (plus very young kids). he didn't want to take it on. I had thought I had found another lawyer thought the grapevine, but this guy waited 3 weeks to meet me, (last Friday) then welcomed me with tea and flattering my website and asking if I wanted to sing the contract without speaking about the case, nor giving me an estimate of the prie.the contract also said he would be taking care of all types of s certain area whereas I was only contacting him about a very specific thing.
his prices though not the highest ever, are on the steep side for this type fo work whereas his website give a 35% lower hourly rate. NO THANKS!

I wrote quickly to say tell him despite the quality of his work, his rates are beyond my means. I spent Monday calling around and writing some emails to find someone else. I found one option - an insurance appointed lawyer who seemed nice, but didn't want to meet and didn't seem like he would put his all into it. I wrote to another who I know has dealt with cases similar and usually won - working with my colleagues - and has reasonable rates - he said he was excessively busy this week, and didn't understand the attitude of my old lawyer who could easily just register the file. When I asked, if he could take over if my old lawyer registered the file (deadline next Tuesday) he said OK.

My old lawyer said on Tuesday, that in any case one of them would file the thing; But then both kept insisting that the other should do it.

this afternoon my old lawyer said he would file the file; he said the new lawyer had said I had told him that the old lawyer agreed to do it, and the old lawyer was annoyed.

this is not so, the old lawyer was in copy to the mails and I didn't ever speak to the new lawyer, only to his assistant to whom I kept telling that the old lawyer didn't want to file the file and thought it was the job of the new lawyer.

I think the new lawyer, who is more established and older, put a little friendly pressure or the old one, as the new one really thought the old one was being irresponsable. the old one, who is generally hard working and consciencious when it comes down to it, but of unequal tempermanent, is too young to afford to be seen as irresponsable by a lawyer in the same general area.

he can say what he wants to me, but the new lawyer (who's older and more established) can call BS if that's the case, and I imagine that he very politely did so.

    s t r e s s f u l week. I was freaking some time on Wednesday or Thursday.

I only corrected 5 pages very briefly today.

stopped by some work thing and saw some people. useful.

after all that I ate a bunch of rye crisp type things and went to bed early.

I'm cleaning out DVD's. For the cost of US postage (which is typically about $3), I'd be more than willing to sell Prevention's Get Moving with Chris Freitag, Gold Gyms Muffin Top Meltdown, or My Fitness Coach for the Wii. For the Wii, there are programs that focus on weight loss, core, upper body, lower body, cardio or flexibility. There are programs in each area that are different lengths. Just PM me.

Did Reebok Cardio Tone DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD

Rori – have I told you how great your new do looks on you?

It’s predicted to be in the 90’s the next few days. Guess where I’ll be?????

I put the rings from beverages in recycling!

Beth – good luck at the endodontist

Going to volunteer at the soup kitchen then into the pool I go!

Small NSV’s: Colby gave Jessica a small birthday cake. It’s been sitting in my refrigerator since the end of April. She didn’t want to get rid of it, told me “it’s probably OK”. Well, she’ll be away for about 3 weeks. As it was, it was past the expiration date, it’ll be just that much more when she gets back. So I took a small bite just to be sure, and threw the rest away. Then today at the soup kitchen they were giving pieces of cake for dessert. Twice I wanted some and twice I said to myself “it’s not worth it”. What I should do is take a bottle of water when I leave.

This morning went to Aldi. Finished the Diamond Dotz for Denise, now to start on the one for Pete. Tried cleaning the tile in the pool, but it looks like there’s a water line so cleaned the spa.

Janetr – I know how hard this is. You gd is beautiful. Well, there’ll be more graduations (like college)

Karen – I was in Costa Rica on vacation in 1992 and took a boat tour into a bay on the Pacific side where we stopped at an island for lunch.. We were offered the opportunity to dive off and swim into the island which I did, just to find myself joined by a couple of large turtles, they nudged me and swam with me for a few hundred yards… then went off to do their thing… It was amazing !

    Rori - great new cut!!!

I commented that I could work on the sleep aspect of my health. Well ... to sum up ... :)

    Machka9 wrote:

Sleep - This I could work on.

I've made quite the discovery just recently.

I have been struggling with sore, red eyes especially first thing in the morning. And I've been struggling with waking up feeling like I've just cycled a century rather than sleeping.

    I've tried different things ...
-- drops in my eyes when I wake up
-- no coffee after 5 pm
-- chamomile tea in the evening
-- putting on relaxing music late in the evening before bed and turning down the lights
-- reading something relaxing before I fall asleep
-- a sleep monitor that records what I do in the night ... maybe I do get up and ride a century!

The drops in the morning helped a bit, the relaxing techniques ensured I fell asleep within about 5 minutes, and the sleep monitor revealed I snore a little right at the beginning of the night but then seem to sleep all right.

The other night, about 10 days ago, I was dozing off and somewhere in between that wake and sleep state when I suddenly felt like my eyes weren't entirely closed. Then I got to wondering ... am I sleeping with my eyes slightly open? It is a thing. It does happen to some people.

One of the simplest solutions for that is to put drops in the eyes before bed and to wear an eye mask at night. So I went out and got a lightweight one. That night ... drops in the eyes, eye mask on ... and I had one of the better night's sleeps I've had in a while! Plus my eyes were less red and sore and I was less puffy around the eyes.

I've gone to a bigger, heavier eye mask and have slept with it two nights now. So far, I like it better.

Who would have thought that a simple eye mask would make such a difference!

But there is evidence that blocking out the light can help.

Barbara wow about the cougar. they seem to be everywhere these days.to me they seem exotic but of course they are less welcome if they are at risk of attacking you. I was on another thread with about 8- 10 people a few years ago and used to read all and respond to all, and it could take an hour a day to write a thoughtful response. I find with this group we are so numerous that it's beyond me. I occasionally write to many and try to read any personals to my intention. I see most gals on this thread do not respond to personals when I do write them.
so then I don't bother that much with writing to them after a while.
