Studying for exam. 😐
Each semester I study everything I can think of.
Each semester I find I've covered about 2/3 of what's on the exam.
I wish I could read their minds.
I find exams frustrating.
They ALWAYS manage to find a topic from somewhere I haven't even thought of studying ... some obscure detail I missed.
I attend all the lectures, take notes, and then listen to the lectures again later. I attend all the tutorials and do what I'm supposed to do in each of them. I do all the assignments (and do well on them). I read the recommended readings. I go over the previous exams which we are given access to. I answer all the previous exam questions in quite a bit of detail. I do additional research on each of the questions considering different ways the questions could be asked.
I have even contacted the instructors to ask for clarification on previous exam questions.
And yet ... when I get into the exam ... somehow there's always a question on something I've obviously missed. 😐

Morning! What a beautiful day we had here yesterday. I worked 3 sessions in the yard, 45 minutes each. There is just so much to do I can only handle small patches at one go. I did plant some perennial flowers in the side garden and cleared a bit more of the old vegetable garden.
Will have a good long walk with my bff today and plan for a week of successful, healthy meals. I have much less work pressure/demands for the next 3 weeks, just cleaning things up-no more concerts, yippee. The ever changing administration and toxic folks at school are still present but I am reframing the situation in order to stay put. I am taking it one year at a time and counting my blessings (and my calories burned!)

Guests gone. Phew!
My whole body stiffens up in company and my legs ached so much last night from just walking slowly around town.
They really were lovely guests, but I find it so tiring being 'on' all the time. I did take an hour out yesterday pm for a nap. Needed it.
Done my exercises this morning, but I had to drag myself through it. May go for a quick 5k after lunch before we set out for the grandchildren. DS and DDIL are going to see Elton John at the County Cricket Ground. I really need the exercise after stuffing my face this weekend.
The Old Prison visit was interesting to me, but not so much to the others. Then we set off for the North Laines to buy DH a pork pie hat. He found one and it looks GREAT! He was so delighted he bought an imitation Panama to wear to the cricket.
I looked for sparkly trainers, but didn't find the right ones. DSIL was looking for a long summer dress, but didn't find the right one.
In the evening we went to the posh vegetarian restaurant. When DH and I took a bite of the starter we both gagged. The salt on the veggie sausage was overwhelming. We called the waiter and he took it away. Surely enough the sausage had been rolled in table salt instead of special salt mix. Ugh! They threw the batch away and we got free replacement starters. Lovely food apart from that, but I told them I thought the chef had been a little too generous with the salt in general throughout the meal. It was very nice, but more salty than I remember it.
So, a good visit overall, but it is very hard work. Worth it though, even though DH didn't sleep at all the first night they were here. He read all night. He slept well last night.
Going up to London on Tuesday for the funeral on Wednesday. Still haven't sorted out footwear.

Allie - Don't sweat the federal capital gains tax on selling the condo--unless you make a $250,000 profit on the sale over and above what you paid for it, you won't pay capital gains. Corey and I made a fairly significant profit on the sale of the warehouse (significant to us, maybe not to most people) and didn't pay a penny tax on the gain. I don't know about state taxes, however (we sold it in Texas, and there is no state income tax there). My instinct would be to at least fly down to Sarasota and find out about the job, as they obviously want you, but fresh starts are such a joy for me. You must do what's right for you. You have a lot of ties in the area you live in now, but there is much sadness, as well. Follow your instincts...
Heather - I have the same reaction to being in people's company.
Pip - I respect and admire the fact that you're paying Bullwinkle the tribute of not putting her through the tortures of cancer treatment just to keep her with you a little longer. I'm so sorry you're losing your friend.
Corey and I went on a lovely long drive yesterday, to a few areas in Arkansas we haven't seen yet. Ordered chicken tenders for lunch at a small cafe in a small town on the way, and they were completely misnamed as they were utterly inedible. Seriously, that chicken must have lived a long and dissipated life, 'cause it was one tough bird.
Tried one, had to discreetly spit out that bite into my napkin, tried another, same result, and just gave up. Corey said their "juicy burger," was false advertising, as well, as was the sign on the window, "better than home cooking!" Guess it depends on your home cooking. It was all so bad, we didn't even bother to complain (sorry, Heather), just paid, gave the waitress a good tip (not her fault) walked out, won't ever go back.
Got back in time to get all the mowing and trimming done before sundown - between the two of us, we can get it done in a little over two hours, which isn't bad for a two-acre area. We usually swap out when I get sweated down from trimming, so then I hop on the riding lawnmower while he does the trimming. Corey wants to make a few inroads with the big walk-behind trimmer into the woods today, as they're starting to encroach on the home acres again - with all the water, everything is growing like mad.
The pic is the garden - the large table-sized rocks are the ones we moved away from the house a few weeks ago, and the beans have already far outgrown the trellis he put up for them. He's got the green thumb, not me! The small sycamore at front left was a spindly little thing when we bought the house a year ago.
Love y'all,

Hugs to Evie and Margaret and Pip and anyone else who needs one.
Re autism, my 10 year old grandson was diagnosed before he was two. Early intervention and a lot of private speech and OT have helped a lot, and he is doing very well. My husband is, I’m pretty sure, on the spectrum, but there was never a diagnosis.
I’m back in Onederland after a 9-month vacation. It was one year ago today that I broke my ankle starting the upward spiral. It feels absolutely fabulous to be back in control. I am absolutely loving my new program. I haven’t had a diet soda for a week and my craving for sugar and carbs is nonexistent, at the moment. I just made myself some egg, mushroom, onion, and power greens muffins. I can’t wait to try them.10 -
Allie - Agree with Lisa that you won't have a capital gain at the federal level. Nothing at all to worry about there. If they want you for an interview, will they fly you down? When Hub changed jobs they flew him out, paid for the rental car, hotel, meals, etc. for his interview. There wasn't any out of pocket for us.
Okie in the TX Hill Country2 -
Pip - So sorry about your pup. I completely agree with your plan of action. In a young dog that would have a good chance of a full life after, I would consider treatment. In your case, I would completely agree with keeping them comfortable and hugging them all I could. Hugs to you!

I go into most cafes in Australia bracing myself for "bad" and what we usually get is somewhere on the scale of:
Made Me Sick -- -- -- -- -- -- Could Have Been Worse, I Guess.
I don't know what it is. It's like these places don't know what good food tastes like, or accurately, what good food looks and feels like. I don't have a strong sense of taste and smell, so I rely on how food looks and what the texture is like.
I will not order chicken here unless I've seen how the chicken is done. Most places take what should be dry and flaky white chicken and somehow turn it into a rubber ball. I cook chicken once in a while, and although I'm not a good cook, I've never been able to make chicken rubbery ... but somehow these places accomplish it.
We had lunch in a cafe on Saturday and the cheese and cauliflower pie was just a bit better than "Could Have Been Worse, I Guess". The pastry was light and flaky, there was a good quantity of cauliflower, but it wasn't quite as thick and creamy as a cheese and cauliflower pie should be ... it was a touch on the runny side. I'd order it again next time we're there, but wouldn't go out of my way for it. The cake, I have to say, was good. Not brilliant, but definitely one of the better chocolate mud cakes I've had. Most are dry as dust or like partially set clay, and this actually had some moisture to it and I could get my fork in it. I'll have to remember that for next time.
And yet, people here eat at these places and occasionally give them awards for best whatever, and I have to wonder if people have never travelled.
Or maybe it's just me. Although I do have to say the two times I got sick from the food, my husband did too. One of those occasions gave us a horrible ride back to where we had parked the car ... 40 km up and over a hill on an upset stomach. Blerg.
My little food rant.

Did an hour of the Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of 10MS Carb Burner DVD then take the extremepump class
Dana – it was probably me who asked about the flowering magnolia tree. I remember the one we had was pretty but I couldn’t remember if it was messy or not. Thanks for telling me. But I don’t remember it being an evergreen
Barbara – thanks for the link. I’m glad to see Aetna is one mainly since that’s who we have now. But then again, who knows what it will be like next year?
Drkatie – congrats getting back to onederland. All good things are worth waiting for
Well, as you know, Jess is transferring to Iowa State. She’s supposed to take one course online to get caught up and she needs to have the course completed by early in August. I know this is selfish of me and that I’m just being a worry-wort, but she’s still in VA. I know…I know…stop worrying. But I can’t help it, I just don’t want to see any distraction for her. I guess I sort-of wish she were here studying. But I also know that there really isn’t anything here for her. We have different likes. Like she likes to have dinner late, we like it earlier. That’s age, dinner just sits in our stomachs. Her friends are in VA, not here.
Think I’ll make sugar cookies for Vince later
Was just reading a book about Shaun T. I didn’t know that he was gay! And I didn’t know that he’d been abused. Well, not that I really showed a lot of interest anyway.

Well, can't make the sugar cookies. See, I don't have any oil (Don't know how I ran out) and just noticed that this recipe calls for oil. Well, will have to look for one that doesn't.

Pip so sorry about Winkie.
Fall wounds making me a bit stiff today. I did have trouble getting to sleep. I take a tincture of passion flower when this happens. The problem is now I feel groggy because of it. Sleep is just too important now.
Other son is in the process of moving out. This will help with sleep too. He comes in at midnight and goes to sleep between 2-4. I know he tries to be quiet but I know it disrupts my sleep. I think we will have even a better relationship once he moves out. More adult to adult and no more some of the parent to child living here has created.
I have been bouncing up and down a couple of pounds. Right now on down side. For me weight is secondary right now. Top on list is eating well to keep up my energy, sleeping the best I can, doing at least on thing a day that gives me a sense of accomplishment, and enjoying my garden. These are the things for me so I can give my best self to son.
DH told me he missed me when I left yesterday. I think we make a good team I know I coddle to him because of what he is going through. I do try to make him tell me what he wants and how he wants it instead of just jumping in. I also gave him some small squeeze balls so help build his strength back in his hands. Husband does not coddle him like me. He says DS is impatient. I can't blame son. The up side is it will hopefully make him more willing to push himself. I also know how impatient DH is in these kind of situations so it is like two peas in a pod. I know it is important for DH to be part of son's care.
This med makes your body freeze it also effects muscle tone. He said he feels trapped. He is right. His body is not cooperating with him.
I just learned a son of a good friend is also going through something horrific. When I have a better idea what the routine is for our DH I will reach out and visit with her. Meanwhile I indeed to send a card to her so she knows she is not alone, and I know she is grieving. He son survived what happened to him but he is permanently injured.

I'm making these lemon drops for Vince. Actually, they're pretty low in calories. The bad part is that the recipe doesn't make much so I need to make two batches.

pip over 1K cals out with bloody gash? OWWWW. Hope it heals quickly and completely.

Karen in VA, your DGS must be so proud of his accomplishemnts. Well done! Love how you can find hope in DGS's tough autism diagnosis, and that your son has embraced this sad but clarifying information. Praying his family's support and those newly available resources will open up the way to a happy life for DGS. You're teaching DGS to "flip" the negatives early on in life. VERY Well done!
allie would you tell us about the job opportunity at Sarasota hospital? Full time? benefits? Work environment and people? How do you feel about it?
Machka "barely hanging on..." a real tea-snorter!
Julie YES I'm tempted to not track when overindulged... but then I remind myself that it's part and parcel of the catastrophic thinking that will make a mild indulgence into a whopper, then grit my teeth and log anyway ;}
Margaret the "through" phrases... true words!
Machka and Lisa and Julie and anyone else... Is there a "web page publishing" for dummies? Our dog group could sure use a very simple web page on which to post guidelines and schedules, but has no $$ for either hosting or development. I stumbled around updating my prior church's page but ... ;}
Lanette "nothing neurological" what a relief! BUT, did she say anything about the foot pain contributing to issues? Kate's balance-on-one-leg-while-brushing-teeth is helping me, at least I can manage to stay more than 30 seconds on each, working towards a minute. Excellent advice to Carol. PTs are especially good at recommending exercises.
Barbie BOO for batteries that die without warning mid-walk. BOO!
Michele, look up "eye candy" in the dictionary and yup, there's a pic of Rodney Yee
Margaret you are absolutely right, your and your DH's presence are a key factor in your son's quality of care. Brava!
Only through pg 25 but time to shower and scoot!

I'm not posting anything on facebook cuz Kirby called in sick at work. today is the furry 5k walk in Seattle that we've been doing since it started. the vet said it would be ok to take her, her joints are still good no problem there. this is the only one that we have no problem walking. we are taking all 3. this may be her last time doing the walk. we'll take it slow with her cuz she does have 3.1mi to walk. there is a point where you can go straight or turn and go up. a steep hill. last few times we've haven't taken winkle up the hill, I usually run up there with yogi or both Floyd and yogi and kirby will just keep walking straight., we'll c how it goes.
Bullwinkle has been the only female I've ever owned. she's not dead yet. last night she stayed downstairs on her own and slept on the couch. I didn't hear any major panting. we will hear in about a week with the results. cancer or no cancer.9 -
Barbara AHMOD - You can actually start a free blog on WordPress that can be as simple or as complex as you want it, it would just be an address that ends with wordpress.com, so something like doggies.wordpress.com. Go to https://startbloggingonline.com/how-to-start-a-blog-on-wordpress-com/, and there's a tutorial on how to start a free blog on WordPress. Just because it's called a "blog" doesn't mean you have to write a whole bunch of stuff, and you're not allowed to use the free blogs to make money, but it sounds like that's not an issue for your group. The page designs are free (as long as you pick the free ones, and they're clearly marked), and the hosting is free. Someone will have to download the program on their computer, however, in order to create the blog. Another option is to develop a Facebook page - which is what I'd recommend if you don't actually need a website.
Machka - unfortunately, we're finding exactly the same thing in Arkansas so far - and the reviews are incredibly wrong pretty much every time! So far, we've yet to find a restaurant where the food is worth eating, other than a little Cajun hole in the wall in downtown Fort Smith that has live music so loud you can't hear yourself think. The restaurant is so small, the band's just about sitting in your lap, as well. Depressing.

Ran 5k. Then walked over to my son"s house. My legs are aching.
Fed the kids pizza, then it's TV, then bath, then bed. They gave us cash to order in Indian takeaway.
Hope the concert is good. The traffic wardens are having a field day.!!!!!

Accomplished a good patch of garden on this glorious day! Had a 4 mile walk with bff and an hour phone conversation with my sister (MJ) who suffers with anxiety and now insomnia. She is struggling on meds but they’re not really kicking in. OCD, and anxiety run strong in my family, I hope I helped a little just by listening and supporting.
Gretchen Rubin is on PBS right now, so gonna run!

Had a good day...fixed lunch for my DnL, her mom, and the two grands. Made BBQ'ed pork tenderloin, cold slaw, and tater tots. So simple but good. One good thing about having them over is that it made me do a little much needed cleaning.
We are enjoying much needed rain but glad for sunny weather's return next week.

DS and DDIL came back from the Elton John concert absolutely stunned by it. Fabulous. At 72 he played for 2 hrs 40 mins with his old band and gave it his all. They had the best seats near the front for my son's 40th birthday and all the celebs were there. The rain held off. I was so glad we could babysit for them so they could have a once in a lifetime experience.

@ginnytez and @Machka9 I'm thinking the same thing for arms. I saw a video with Anna Wintour in short sleeves with loose-skinned arms. I figure if she can be filmed like that I can exist with bare arms sometimes. and all the better with a little rowing!
@Machka9 is that par for the course to have things not studied on the exam or to have so much surprise element in the exams?
@auntiebk I use Wix.com which has a free version and there are surely many tutorials on line. it's pretty easy to get with a little tenacity. @Machka9 works in the field so can probably explain and advise better than me.2 -
Barbara ... our black lab Zeke is 14 years old and has had a growth on his neck for at least the past 18 months. While it was initially a small annoyance, it had developed into a weeping/bleeding mess. The vet didn't want to do surgery due to his age and his severely arthritic hips. In the last month, the growth had become large and painful to Zeke and had created an unsanitary situation in our home (Zeke was self-deriding the mass on the carpets). The surgeon agreed, it was time to surgically remove whatever the results would be. Well, Zeke is a tough old bugger. He made it through the surgery, didn't do so well with their pain meds and anesthesia, but I put him back on CBD and now that his bowel situation has settled down, he's acting like a puppy. Pip ... we chose not to test for cancer as it would not change our current course of action with a 14 year old dog. Last night, Zeke pulled out a toy from his basket. Something we haven't seen him do in a couple years. He didn't have much energy and we wouldn't throw it like he wanted fearing for his hips. But he is definitely feeling better.
Allie ... you love Florida ...
