Good morning,ladies!☕️

well up and had my tea.. working 7:30-1 today and then back home.. supposed to be beautiful this afternoon.. will throw laundry in and maybe sit outside...
3rd day on anti depressants .. have 3 months worth first 30 days 10 mg, the next 60 are 20 mg.. hope it helps..

Still haven't decided what to do about the cleaner. They were such good cleaners. I could ask that the boss always cleans in the team, but I was a bit annoyed before all this happened about her switching times and dates at the last minute. Grrrrrrrrrr! I think I will just cancel them.
I plucked up the courage to weigh myself this morning. I am 4 lbs over target. I knew I must be, but now I have the objective evidence. That's a gain of a pound a month since March, but most of it must have been in the last month. Sooooooooooooo, back to what worked in the past and no slacking and over indulging. There were a few days in the last couple of weeks that I didn't track at all. I know I was way over.
All that is going to stop. I want to be back at target for the school year reunion.
Bananas and Lisa - I'm so conflicted as to what to do publicity wise, or even if I want to do it at all. My first priority is to finish the second volume of my memoir and, like you Lisa, I feel anything else will just be a distraction from the real task. I also hate technology! I did charge up my old laptop today, which has been in the cupboard for months. My new laptop hasn't been out of its box since I moved here. It is now two and a half years old and I've barely switched it on. I am scared of getting it all wrong. The mere thought of it makes me go cold and sweaty. (I write all this stuff on my tablet and phone) How to get publicity for my self published books seems a very difficult problem and I'm scared of going down the wrong avenue.
It doesn't help that I find myself extremely envious of those who do happen to have the gift of self publicity. And then I criticise myself for being so petty and jealous. I don't like the feeling and wish I could rise above it.
My DH says, "Well, you've read all these books about 'letting go' etc, why don't you put it into practice?"
My answer is, "I'm only human and I have feelings. I can't always be perfect."
Today there is some free jazz down at the i360. Maybe a bit of dancing. We will wander down there after lunch.

RV Rita, what do you do that puts you outside in the heat??Just wondering, because my one job ,I work outside from Easter to Christmas.
Debby in Va0 -
Heather - Perhaps it's my age, perhaps it's just the fact that I finally admitted that I'm human, and like other humans, multi-tasking for me is a myth, but ridding myself of the distractions of having my personal website, as well as a number of blogs going, was a MASSIVE relief for me. Being frantically pulled in one direction and another serially and in ongoing fashion just leaves me exhausted, and unable to work to my own standards on anything. My advice (and worth what you're paying for it, of course) would be to finish your memoir, as that's both a gift to yourself and to your sons. That dangles the new project out there as a carrot for yourself to drive you to finish the memoir. When your memoir is complete, then start the new project. Much, MUCH easier to publicize, or to shop around to publishers, something that exists rather than something still in progress. On the subject of envy, like regret, envy is an emotion I don't struggle with much, as the hyper-logical brain may acknowledge that I can feel either one for a moment, but dismisses extended displays of either one as a waste of energy. That said, you could let envy drive you to look at what the ones who are good at self-publicity actually do, make notes on that, and once you're ready, use their techniques and imitate their actions without mercy.
Edit to add: Computers can sense fear. You may think I'm kidding, but at a lot of levels, I'm not. There are too many times I've made a computer or printer work simply by expecting it to when someone was getting frustrated with it not working for them. Approach it calmly, fearlessly, and with the full expectation that it will work for you, as you are actually smarter than the computer. It just has a larger memory, that's all.
Barbie - So glad the news for Jake was good!
Got a sick husband on my hands - a bad cold - and when he's sick, he's the "curl up in the corner and leave me alone" bear. I'm OK with that, as I stink on ice at being a nurse. I think I'll make sure he's got what he needs and go shopping or something.
Today, once it's light and the dew's dried a bit, is mowing-and-trimming day, and tomorrow is get-my-stuff-ready-for-a-three-day-business-trip day, as I'll leave Monday morning to go back to Little Rock. At least it's a three-hour drive and not a six- to eight-hour flight and rental car trip, as it would have been a year ago.
Welcome to the new folks, glad you're here! Help us get to know you, tell us about yourselves, and join in the conversations wherever you like.
Love y'all,

@cityjaneLondon
If you think it would be a distraction, maybe you could stick to your memoire, especially if you don't like computers.
It seems like most people undertaking any enterprise other than salaried work have to have some digital identity and self-promotion. If you have the means maybe you could pay someone to do it for you. that might be more palatable.
I am not a great example. I went to a class a couple of weeks ago on visual identity taught at the library offered by the school. it gave a few tips, but basically they said you have to regularly add to whatever format you use (facebook, instagram, etc.) if you don't use it a lot it's not really useful. I just don't feel a need to post regularly most of the time. I am not number one in self-promotion. I do have a website, it is lowkey. maybe you could look at websites you like (of all sorts) and see if you find one you find appealing.
you could do a bi-monthly or quarterly post.
I guess these days much is about getting buzz or even going viral. and I' just am not really working in a way for that to happen at present;
that said, making a website can also be fun and there is no rush. when I first did I just had one page and one picture. for quite some time no rush is needed! it's up to you.
also I had some writing stuff that I originally put in a blog but then I realised it would be better to not put it out publicly until is was more finished. so there's that!
good luck with that!2 -
I spoke to a union rep and she gave me some tips about my thesis director (not that much I can do). she said it's very unlikely that they don't give me the 6th and final year since I will have given the 100 pages requested. and in that case they will back me up. my department is not at all up to snuff unfortunately. it's a school with a decent repreutaiotn, but inside it's very old school with teachers scratching one and others backs and protecting one and other...2

Rebecca - Happy Birthday! Touching photo of Athena and Aurora
Barbie - great news for Jake! And wanted to mention that you are an inspiration to me - exercise is so important, perhaps #1 as we get older. You've gone thru back surgery and your recent bout of spinal fracture but healed up and are back at it. I need to remind myself there are ways around and through injuries that temporarily curtail our exercise programs. Get back on the horse.
Machka - Fish and chips after a nice bicycle ride sounded ideal. Great photos of your harbor there. I used to work at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle for many years, it was fun walking the docks over lunch and seeing the boats. Your photos always trigger great memories for me, especially since I'm now around 100 miles inland from the ocean.
Kate - That street with the umbrellas is so pretty.. Do they actually protect it from rain? You look great by the way. Any tomatoes yet in your garden? That burst of heat (90+ degrees) we had last week was actually good - I think nearly all of my plants have set little tomatoes - I planted 6, mostly cherry type.
Pip - glad you got to change your hours. I always loved the early shift like that. After about 2 pm my brain would go to sleep, but at 6:30 or 7 am, especially before other employees came in, I would get a lot done. Hope you can get some good gym time in. Spending quality time with Winkle is very important for you and her.
Barbara AHMOD - I have a hunch the IRS will be satisfied with your letter sent certified even though it wasn't signed for in a timely manner. I believe that sometimes certified mail sits in the post office at the other end until someone can get around to signing for it, while regular mail goes through quickly. Maddening though - I know you want this over and done with.
Carol - a pox on the crook that broke into BNL's house. Strange and creepy that someone would steal a thumb drive. Sounds like the CIA or something (I'm reading Baldacci books right now, stealing thumb drives happens on a regular basis, lol.)
Heather - our previous cleaner started coming later and later (therefore staying later to finish the job) plus would call to change days/times at the last minute. It was a relief to let her go, despite her tears and the fact that she did an excellent job. Our new little gal is very punctual and hasn't missed a day, she is near the top of my gratitude list. And sorry to hear about DIL's missing jewelry.
Rita - keep cool!! Geeze that's hot.
Yesterday was the first day of Tai Chi in the park. Actually it was more of an "intro" and he taught us breathing, where to place our feet, how to "walk", and some very simple moves. I'm thrilled because I purchased a DVD several weeks ago that is darn close to what he had us doing yesterday, so I can keep on. And also thrilled that my 2 friends want to keep coming back, it will be once or twice a month.
Better get some stretches in! Have a great weekend everyone!

Another thread elsewhere asked, "what is your happy place"?
Mine is cycling long distances out in the country.
Or just being outside in nature.
But sitting here at my table looking out past the trees at the blue water of the bay while listening to classical music (Gustav Holst's The Planets, right now) is nice too.

Lisa: Your grandchildren are adorable.
Barbie: Great news from Jake’s blood test results! Congratulations!
Pip: I hope you enjoy your new schedule at work: It seems just right for you. :flowerforyou:
Rita: Glad you survived the heat. When we have 90 degree weather we tend to stay inside in the air conditioned house until evening when it is bearable outdoors. We haven’t had that kind of heat so far this year but I expect it to happen. :noway:
Rebecca: Happy Birthday! Your sister reminds me of my parents in that both of them were also chain smokers. It was hideous for a non-smoker like me to live with, and the end of life for each of them was very unpleasant. Mom, especially, couldn’t breathe. Luckily you are smarter than your sister and take care of your health.
Lisa: So sorry that your DH is down with a bad cold. Chamomile or mint tea are two of the best cold remedies that I know. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I love the view from the place you stopped to eat. Fabulous! Thinking about my happy place!
Lanette: Tai Chi in the park sounds like good exercise and good fun.
TerriRichards: Our boat was my happy place for many years, but since DH’s MS has made him unable to go on the docks, much less the boat, I’ve been deprived. The RV is nice but lacks that lovely floaty feeling. One of these days I’ll take the power washer down to the boat and spend a warm afternoon floating and washing topsides. I will enjoy it.
My horseback riding friends are having a work party at a county park today. They’re working on grooming overgrown trails. I may take my rake and help groom the trails. They’re people with land and power equipment they’ll bring along. I don’t have lawn mowers and such, but the trusty rake is a good tool.

Happy Birthday Rebecca, enjoy the time with Athena Rose, she is a beauty.
Right now a new neighbor (behind our house) is tearing down that huge Sycamore tree that has shaded my back yard for too long! They knocked on our door this a.m. to ask permission to pull down our fence and work from both sides, right now, my rose bushes are looking stressed, but fingers crossed, this is gonna be for the better. I am not gonna miss that tree for one second, and it was a pleasure meeting a young family, he's a fire fighter who grew up here and she's expecting their first any minute. The racket is intense but I am reminding myself of the enormous benefit. Fingers crossed that it goes off without a hitch.
A glorious day here and I intend to make the most of it, after the racket subsides that is by cleaning up the backyard.

I think I'm going to keep the cleaner. DS is now backtracking and saying he doesn't think it was them.
Today I hid the spare house keys and some gold bits and pieces that I have been thinking of selling. There is nothing else to steal, providing I wear my rings when they are around.
I might regret the decision, but to find someone prepared to do two hours just once every two weeks for a reasonable fee is not easy.
Thanks for all the advice folks. I did say to DH how upset I feel sometimes. He was more supportive than last time.
We walked down to the outdoor jazz festival. It was raining and chilly so we only stayed a few minutes. Tried to get a drink in a nearby bar, but were blanked, so I gave them a piece of my mind and walked out.
Wandered through The Lanes, found a nice pub and spent a happy half hour supping half a pint of beer and chatting to DH about this and that. It looks as if our next door but one neighbours might be suitable people to get to know. He talked to them today about Brexit on the way back from buying the morning newspaper.
Making veg curry with hard boiled eggs tonight.

Wondering if baking with sweetnlow tastes good or not??? I like it in tea ☕️.
Hubby found Healthy Choice 100calories chocolate bars y got me more 100 calories Skinny Cow from Nestles brand. He brought home a sonic Reese’s blast had to turn it down ..only ate 2tsp bites 80calories showed him on the app how that little cup 32oz from sonic is over 1800calories!!! He was shocked he tossed them in the freezer were afraid to eat them! Buying lower calorie teas even to everything we can for me. This is permanent since JRs metabolism isn’t fast like his sister we are making changes so I’m the guinea pig 🐷. If it tastes good in the stock piles it goes so slowly we phase out the bad stuff have healthy wonderful choices for him. My old town had great Vegan/Natural Diet store so you could buy rabbit to vegan products even vegetarian ones at good prices. Also had my own animals to garden y farms nearby selling their goods. Now big city no health store in site no wonder San Antonio Tx has a name for being a heavy weight town! Got gyms y pills only 💊 shops. Whole Foods had only 1 or 2 Amazon bought them they changed. It shows Hispanic/white population weight issues since I’m mixed race Im in multi-categories lol. https://www.sanantonio.gov/Portals/0/Files/health/HealthyLiving/FactSheet-Obesity.pdf

funny, it just worked out that way, they offered if I would be open to coming in earlier RIGHT after we found out about Bullwinkle. I've had earlier shifts before and I like them. we'll see about the gym time that I loose. the only way I'll make it up is if I just ride into work at 5am after my shower and go the 12 miles and count that as the gym time3 -

I have been thinking about what's my happy place. Right now my happy place is my home, yard, neighborhood, dance class, car. I have had different happy places in my life. Now I'm in a new chapter (inning, act) of my life and the best thing I can do is enjoy being where I am. I watched my cousin (the one in the nursing home that I speak to by phone a few times a week) staring when I began talking to her after my mother died in 1991. My cousin was younger than I am now and she spent a lot of time bemoaning that she couldn't go the beach any more like she did when she was younger. She never seemed to be able to move into the next chapter of her life and enjoy her life in Manhattan and now she's in a nursing home and has little choice or control over her life. I think she missed a lot by wishing too much that she were somewhere else.
